Sorcerer veröffentlichen Reign of the Reaper am 27. Oktober

Die mächtigen Sorcerer sind nicht zu stoppen und im Herbst 2023 wird die Band ihr mit Spannung erwartetes viertes Studioalbum mit dem Titel "Reign of the Reaper" veröffentlichen. Das Album enthält einige der düstersten, härtesten und aggressivsten Stücke, die die Band je aufgenommen hat, und gleichzeitig einige der lyrischsten und schönsten. Seit ihrer Wiedergeburt im Jahr 2010, durch eine Reihe von erstaunlichen Live-Auftritten, die Unterzeichnung bei Metal Blade Records und die Veröffentlichung von drei exzellenten Metal-Alben, haben Sorcerer auf allen Zylindern gefeuert und haben keine Pläne, für irgendjemanden aufzuhören. "In the Shadow of the Inverted Cross" (2015) setzte alles in Bewegung; mit seinem klassischen, epischen Doom Metal-Ansatz festigte es Sorcerers triumphale Rückkehr in die Szene. Das Nachfolgealbum "The Crowning of the Fire King" (2017) gab den Fans die Extraportion Epic, nach der sie sich sehnten, und ermöglichte es der Band gleichzeitig, sich zu reformieren und ihren Sound und ihre Richtung neu zu gestalten. Hier legten Sorcerer den Grundstein, auf dem sie immer noch aufbauen - sie machen schweren, melodischen Metal mit krachenden Riffs, hohem Gesang und ohrwurmtauglichen Refrains. 2020 veröffentlichte die Band ihr bis dato aufwändigstes Album, das Konzeptalbum "Lamenting of the Innocent". Dieses Album ermöglichte es der Band, neue Wege zu beschreiten, mit ausgefeilterem, komplexerem Songwriting, längeren Songformen und mit Sänger Anders Engberg in Höchstform. Das Album wurde hoch gelobt und sehr gut aufgenommen und ermöglichte es der Band, die Bühnen einiger der renommiertesten Metal-Festivals und Veranstaltungsorte auf der ganzen Welt zu zieren. Für "Reign of the Reaper" zog sich die Band in ihre Heimstudios zurück und schrieb das ganze Jahr 2022 hindurch Musik, bevor sie sich erneut zu SolnaSound Recording in Stockholm begab, dem Studio, das Simon Johansson (Wolf, Soilwork) gehört und von Mike Wead (King Diamond) betrieben wird, um das Schlagzeug aufzunehmen. Da Sorcerer gerne mit einem kleinen, bewährten Team arbeiten, haben sie erneut die Dienste von Ronnie Björnström (Engineering, Mixing, Mastering) und Jani Stefanovic (Coverart für die Singles & Artwork-Booklet - Verpackungsdesign) in Anspruch genommen; diese beiden arbeiten bereits seit dem ersten Album mit der Band zusammen und haben wie immer hervorragende Arbeit geleistet. Das auffällige Cover-Artwork wurde von dem schwedischen Künstler Joakim Ericsson gestaltet. Conny Welén war wie immer für die Koproduktion verantwortlich. Anders sagt: "Er arbeitet seit 2015 und dem Reunion-Album 'In the Shadow of the Inverted Cross' mit uns zusammen. Connys Beitrag zu unserem Sound ist in jedem Song zu hören; er ist an den Arrangements beteiligt und spielt alle Keyboards". Er ist auch Co-Autor der Gesangsmelodien und der Grundlagen einiger Texte und hat darüber hinaus auch Anders' Gesang in seinem Studio aufgenommen. Die Fotografin Marieke Verschuren lieferte wie schon beim Vorgängeralbum die großartigen Bandfotos. Beim Eröffnungssong und der ersten Single Morning Star", die auf dem Fall Luzifers basiert, zeigt die Band ihr Können bei der Verschmelzung von klassischem Metal mit anderen Heavy-Elementen, wobei es einige Wendungen gibt. Mit einer bombastischen Rhythmussektion, angeführt von Evensand und Biggs, der melodischen und brillant ausgeführten Gitarrenarbeit von Niemann und Hallgren, gipfelnd in der wilden Stimme von Engberg, nimmt "Morning Star" den Hörer mit auf eine unerbittliche Reise durch das Reich von Pandemonium und die Hölle selbst. Kristian sagt: "Die majestätische erste Gitarrenlinie fiel mir im Fitnessstudio ein, daran erinnere ich mich noch genau. Ich schnappte mir mein Telefon und sang die Zeile in den Rekorder, wie ich es immer tue, wenn ich eine Idee habe. Ich dachte mir nicht viel dabei und vergaß sie prompt wieder, bis es an der Zeit war, Songs für das Album zu schreiben. Ich hatte ungefähr 150 Riffs und Ideen, die ich durchging, und diese eine hat mich sofort gepackt. Ich bin superzufrieden mit diesem Stück und es klingt genau so, wie ich es mir vorgestellt habe, als ich anfing, daran zu arbeiten. Die Jungs in der Band haben es KILLED, jeder hat sich den Arsch abgespielt und gesungen". "Reign of the Reaper" wird am 27. Oktober 2023 über Metal Blade Records veröffentlicht und enthält acht brandneue Tracks, die garantiert den Appetit von Metalheads aus allen Bereichen des Heavy Metal-Spektrums stillen werden. Originally called Vildvittra, based on the characters created by Astrid Lindgren as part of Ronja Rövardotter, the band’s name later evolved into Vittra, inspired by the mythical creatures appearing in Swedish folk stories. And while Swedish folk is a recurring theme weaving in and out of their music, the band is firmly rooted in Melodic Death and Thrash Metal in the veins of Dissection, early In Flames, Megadeth, and At The Gates

Founded in 2017 by David Döragrip (vocals) and Johan Murmester (guitar), the lineup was completed in 2018 with Alex Smith (drums) and Gustav Svensson (bass) joining the band. In the studio and on stage Vittra has also been joined by Lars Elofsson on lead guitar since 2021. This was also the year they released their debut EP Wardens, recorded at SolnaSound Production, Sweden, with the support of Simon Johansson (Soilwork, Wolf). Only a few months later, they entered SolnaSound again – this time supported by both Simon and Mike Wead (King Diamond, Mercyful Fate) – and in April 2022 Blasphemy Blues was finalized. Lawrence Mackrory (Bloodbath, Lik, Firespawn) handled the mixing and mastering. Hjules created the cover artwork.

Friday, June 25: King Diamond, “Magic”

The Puppet Master was largely received as just another King Diamond album, and a lesser one at that, as it arrived so quickly after the underwhelming Abigail sequel and felt like it came off the assembly line considering just how prolific Kim Bendix Petersen was around this time (in a roughly 5-year span King made 4 records with his own band as well as another 2 with Mercyful Fate).  And while each King Diamond record had a fully fleshed-out story and concept, and The Puppet Master was the first time in ages King had a stable lineup, even lively tracks like “Magic” felt like it had all been done before.  The ever-steadfast Andy LaRocque and Mike Wead riffed in fine Euro-goth metal fashion, Hal Patino and Matt Thompson were a steady rhythm section, and King himself was never less than fully committed to his material.  And as one of the faster numbers on the record, “Magic” was a convincing headbanger.  But we had all heard this several times already, and on more memorable records.

Dutch black metallers MISANTHROPIA are back, and continue with their Mafia-based storytelling on their new album "Convoy Of Sickness"!

Their music spans from brutal and fast to moments of heavy and melodic parts, and "Convoy Of Sickness" turned out even more bombastic than its predecessor "OMERTÀ".

The album was mixed by Mike Wead - assisted by Simon Johansson - and also mastered by Mike Wead.

The cover artwork was designed by Jan Yrlund / Darkgrove Design.

It will be the “9” lineup, featuring: Hank Shermann - Guitar. King Diamond - Vocals. Bjarne T Holm - Drums. Mike Wead - Guitar. with Joey Vera on the bass while Timi Hansen is away.

We asked Joey Vera (Armored Saint, Fates Warning) to fill in because he has a very unique style and sound playing with his fingers, much like that of Timi Hansen. This is very important, since the set list will only consist of songs from the very first “mini LP”, the “Melissa” album, and the “Don’t Break The Oath” album, plus some brand new songs written specifically in that very same style.

This will very much be Mercyful Fate as we were in the very beginning, except for a brand new major stage production.
