Hi there! This is my first ask, so I hope I'm doing it right x)
I'd like to request Seijuro Mikoshiba, please! Maybe one where's he's pretty frank about his attraction to the reader, but she either gets flattered/embarrassed and actually falls for him, or she just thinks he's joking around.
(I'm currently watching free for the first time, too, so that's cool! Seijuro is one of my favorites. It helps that his Japanese VA is Kenjiro Tsuda, the voice of Nanami in JJK. Thank you!)
I decided to do the latter because I’m a sucker for a little angst. And I didn’t know that about his VA!
Also this is more of a drabble than a oneshot, sorry.
Title: Not a Joke
Pairings: Mikoshiba Seijuuro x Reader
WARNINGS: Yandere themes
Summary: Seijuuro falls in love with you, but you’re not sure whether to take him seriously or not.
You turned around at the sound of your name being called, smiling awkwardly as the Samezuka captain ran to catch up to you, waving excitedly in your direction. You stopped walking so he could catch up.
“(Y/n)!” He cried out, ecstatic to have your attention. “You’re so cute, as ever!”
You felt a flush spreading up your cheeks and did your best to hide the darkening, hoping it wasn’t noticeable. You could never tell if he was serious or not, but it always flustered you when he called you cute.
“Are you coming to watch swimming practice again?” He asked hopefully, giving you puppy dog eyes.
“Sure, I can stop by after my club,” you said.
Seijuuro had always made you laugh with his playful demeanor, but it really made you feel like he was playing with your heart. He was always calling you cute and flirting with you, but it felt like it might be a big joke.
Little did you know, Seijuuro was dead serious. He’d always had a thing for cute girls, but you really took the cake. Your sweet personality made you even cuter and more endearing to him.
You were so unassuming, he couldn’t help but follow you around, watching you closely every moment. Especially when you were around all those boys on the swim team. It was a blessing and curse to have you watch his practice.
He knew that his crush was becoming dark, but he couldn’t help it. He was too afraid that you’d say “no” to him.
“Hey, (Y/n), I have something to tell you.” Seijuuro tried to keep his tone light, but he could hear the seriousness in each syllable. “I like you. Will you go out with me?”
There was a silence in which he held his breath. He wasn’t sure he could breathe, even if he tried. It was like being underwater and unable to surface, waiting for your answer.
You were blown away by the question, trying desperately to decide on an answer. The truth was that you liked him too, but…
“I’m sorry, I can’t really tell if you’re being serious or not,” you admitted, “So I have to pass. I’m sorry, it just doesn’t seem like you’re not… you know… joking.”
Seijuuro’s heart dropped into the pit of his stomach. You didn’t believe him? That wasn’t what he expected, but it somehow hurt worse than if you’d just outright said “no”.
“I’m being serious!” He asserted, but it was too late- you were leaving him behind, not willing to stand around and be made fun of. His heart shattered to pieces when you refused to look back at him.
Tears stung his eyes as he vowed to prove to you just how serious he was.

Free! | SouGou | T-rated | Bar/Gangs AU
Summary:
Sousuke is fiercely jealous when it comes to Gou, even when the rival for her affections is his own gang leader.
For those of us who still cling to rare pairs, here's my 2nd submission to @ficwip5k . I was obviously inspired by Good Charlotte's "Keep Your Hands Off My Girl".

Message in a Bottle (pt. 1)
For anon, who asked my thoughts about secondary characters in Free!
Without Gou working her magic in the background, none of the conflict of season one could have been resolved. She became the Iwatobi swim club’s manager (primarily) because she wanted to reunite her brother with his old friends and hoped that in doing so, he’d start smiling and opening up again. Despite having no sports background and never having put a training regimen together before, Gou improvised with the resources she could find and did the proper fieldwork. All this is to say that she took her managerial responsibilities seriously for Iwatobi’s sake as well as for Rin. She’s earnest and hardworking (albeit a wee bit too ambitious where muscles are concerned) and made a great coach despite her inexperience. She’s a great sister to Rin who she never stopped reaching out to even when he neglects to answer. I do really wish we got to learn what Gou’s secret plans for the future were though! How’re you just going to tease a secret and then not tell me?!
Kisumi serves an interesting function in the series because he doesn’t swim and yet he’s in the loop about what virtually everyone else is up to. He’s a bit of a smartass, often trying to get a rise out of Asahi (by making fun of him) and Haru (by being in the vicinity), but he’s a good guy as well as a reliable source of information. As something of an outsider, Kisumi has also said things I was thinking while watching the show in real-time. For example, in Dive to the Future when Makoto is to race Hiyori for the “right” to be Ikuya’s friend, Kisumi says, “Is there really a point to this? Isn’t it kinda childish to bet things in contests like this? I don’t get it.” Indeed, although Kisumi is right that it’s really fucking juvenile to race for the “right” to be someone’s friend, swimming is like its own language to these guys, so Makoto will learn something important about Hiyori if they compete—and frankly, so will we, so I’m glad Kisumi asked!
I wasn’t terribly fond of Sousuke at first because of his hostility towards Haru and his bad attitude more generally. Instead of using the word “reminiscing” when thinking about his childhood in season two, he says he’s recalling “phantoms of the past.” Like, you wanna lighten up a little there? Sheesh! You could almost see the dark cloud hanging over his head! And while I can totally understand wanting to protect his friend, it still isn’t his place to tell Haru to stay out of Rin’s way or to say having Rin participate in Iwatobi’s disqualifying relay in season one was “idiotic.” Over time, however, we see Sousuke soften up in his interactions with others. He comes to appreciate the value of swimming together instead of soloing and he spends a good deal of time mentoring his juniors. It was lovely to see his recovery over the course of the series and how he came to accept that although his timeline may look different than others, there’s nothing wrong with doing things at his own pace.
My first notes about Ai were that he was “an insecure first-year,” and that I didn’t know for sure what stroke he swam. He reminded me of a remora with the way he followed Rin around. Of course, I couldn’t help but feel bad for the poor kid because his encouragement fell on deaf ears and most of his attempts to reach out were dismissed—what with Rin often refusing to dignify him with any answers to his questions. It was good to see Ai gain confidence in himself over time though! Leadership looks good on him. I also appreciate that despite his ability to plan itineraries down to the minute, his living space is in a constant state of disarray. (Though, I still can’t fathom what would compel a person to bring their umbilical cord with them to boarding school…or anywhere for that matter!) He’s a bit of a disaster, and maybe a bit too earnest for his own good, but he’s a nice kid through and through.
Momo is a joy. He may not be the smartest and may not have much of an attention span, but his enthusiasm is unmatched. The kid scores a 7 on a test and instead of thinking anything remotely negative or self-deprecating, he instead believes the number is a sign of good luck. What a joyful way to move about the world! He’s equally unapologetic about the things he likes (which include but are not limited to stag beetles, capibaras, Gou, hot springs, and Dangerous Ookuchin Hosoeson-kun, among other things), and remains a good sport in the face of defeat. I don’t think there’s a negative bone in his body. He’s “joie de vivre” incarnate!
Much like his little brother, Seijuuro is boisterous and kind of dumb, but he has a heart of gold. Initially, he maintained a pretty cutthroat swimming culture at Samezuka, saying that “the past doesn’t matter. Performance is what counts here. The fastest swimmer wins. That’s all there is to it.” But by the time he enters university, he says instead that “there are many ways to get stronger! Past teammates and friendships can contribute to your strength in the present. There are lots of things that are important besides just practising.” For a meathead, he can be awfully wise, huh? He also doesn’t use a swim cap at all for some reason…but to be fair, most (if not all) of the other characters that do use one wear the damn thing incorrectly anyway. And I’m sure it’s to help us at home distinguish who’s who more easily, but that’s why you give them all different jammers and goggles tinted in different colours!
Isuzu is undoubtedly the coolest of her siblings, though I would have liked to see more of her to get to know her better! She compliments Haru on his triceps the first time they meet, which were what Gou had described as his charm point in high school—meaning that Isuzu and Gou are something of muscle-fanatic soulmates. The two of them proceed to induct Ayumu into the muscle cult and I’m frankly left sitting here waiting for my invite! Sure, I can’t confidently identify biceps from triceps or quadriceps from…hamstrings(?), but I promise I have the spirit!
Nao is refreshingly no-nonsense and calls it as he sees it. Wise beyond his years, Nao’s advice is always astute and pertinent. He’s someone I’d look up to if I ever got to meet him. I just think he’s really cool! His adeptness at observation made him a hell of a coach even back in middle school and he’s only gotten better at it as he’s gotten older. And maybe I’m a wee bit biased because he’s said some of the things I’d like to say to other characters, but that’s neither here nor there.
Asahi is another goofball. He likes to show off and talk about how great he is, he’s highly reactive, and also an idiot. It’s quite easy to get under his skin and get him riled up if he feels like he’s being made fun of, hence his need to boast. His plight in Starting Days was one of the most baffling in the entire series: he “forgot” how to swim the front crawl. I’m not sure that’s something a person can forget to do, but that’s probably because it wasn’t that he actually forgot, he just lacked the courage to try out of a fear of looking silly/not being the best. Frankly, that’s something a lot of people can relate to, me included! His willingness to look inward (instead of continuing to blame Haru) is perhaps what I appreciate the most about Asahi. He took accountability and was able to grow as a character. It was also really sweet to see that as a young adult, he still says positive words of affirmation to himself in the mirror! While it may feel silly, it’s important to treat oneself with kindness regardless of if one feels they’re actually the best or not!
Mikhail, while a bit out of the loop concerning whatever’s cool with the youth these days, is a delight. He gives helpful advice (saying cute things like “having a lot of baggage is what makes life richer! [Even if] sometimes that baggage weighs you down too,”) and understands that sometimes what a person needs isn’t to be told what they did wrong and could instead benefit from some time to hurt. Meanwhile, Ryuuji tears into Rin and Ikuya’s performances at Sydney’s prelims to Haru—deliberately singling out the people he knows are important to him even though they swim different strokes—dismisses hard work that doesn’t yield the desired results, and then he sends Haru to bed saying, “all that matters is how you do in free tomorrow.” I’m not even supposed to be talking about Ryuuji yet and here I am getting pissed off at him in advance! Mikhail, in contrast, is kind in that he gives Rin the space to figure things out for himself while offering his support in the meantime. I also find it incredibly amusing to imagine Ai and Mikhail corresponding back and forth about how well-built Rin is—they couldn’t not have, right?

birthday blitz
just a fun little 2k jolt of excitement and fun for my dear @notsuchasecret for their birthday
going back to the original Samezuka Trio content here.  if you want OG Samezuka Trio, shenanigans, tomfoolery, tentative relationship/friendship anarchy, adult language and not so adult actions, and Seijuurou questioning his life choices then this is the thing for you.  if not? that’s cool.  dldr and all that jazz :D
happiest of birthdays my dear gremlin
(click here to read on my tumblr and not on the dash)
Ai rolls over and yanks the blankets away from Rin for the third time in as many minutes and Rin reminds himself that he loves Ai and that wrapping him in the damn blankets like a mummy and throwing him out the window is something he really, really probably shouldn’t do.  He rolls over and buries his face in Seijuurou’s shoulder and listens as he starts taking deep breaths.
Maybe the throwing Ai out the window thing wouldn’t be so bad?  Maybe Seijuurou would go along with it this time?
“Imagine if you could peel your nipples off like a sticker.  And replace them with, I dunno.  googly eyes.”
“Can you, for one night, not talk like a shitpost from 2012 at one in the morning?”
Ai scoffs.  “Can you, for one night, not be a funsucking vampire looking for a snack when I ask you a question?” Ai mocks him.
Seijuurou lets out a sigh so deep it’s almost a growl.  “Can you both, for one night, just shut up and let me sleep?”
Rin rolls over and looks at Ai, eyebrows raised and a smile on his face.  Ai grins back at him, sharp and sweet like only he can really manage.
“Nope,” they shout in unison as they scramble over and around each other in an attempt to wrap Seijuurou in their blankets and roll him off the bed.  Seijuurou lets them for a few seconds before he starts fighting back.  Seijuurou grumbles and growls but Rin catches a smile on his face as he throws the blanket off himself and tries to wrap it around Ai.
“I.  Uh.  I have questions.”
Seijuurou barely even looks up from where he’s crouched down tying his shoes.  He doesn’t need to look.  He already knows the disaster on display in the other room.  He’s been blatantly ignoring the disaster for the last three and a half hours.  Which is why he called backup.  He’s still not entirely sure he chose the correct backup.  But he was kind of desperate, okay?
“Don’t,” he says as he finishes tying his shoes.  “Just. Don’t.”
“Don’t have questions?” Sugawara asks.  “Or don’t ask the questions.”
“Either.  Both.  Just.”  Seijuurou waves his hand towards the other room.  “It’s safer for everyone if you just ignore it and get the hell out while you can.”
Sugawara nods.  “I roomed with Tanaka and Bokuto one summer.  I understand.”  Seijuurou grabs his keys and wallet from the jacket he had left them in and shoves them into his pants pocket.
“Okay,” he says, gesturing to the door.  “Let’s get out of here.”
Sugawara’s head is tilted to the side like a curious puppy and he’s blinking rapidly and making a quiet, almost distressed noise as he stares into the other room.
“Uh, Mikoshiba?”
“Shit,” he sighs.
“The broccoli is on fire.”
“You mean the oranges, right?”
“No.  No, it's definitely broccoli.”
“I’m done.  I’m too old for this shit.  Let’s go.”
He snags Sugawara’s elbow and pulls him out of the house, determinedly not looking at what he’s leaving behind.
Disaster One and Disaster Two don’t even seem to realize he’s left.  He’s not sure if he should be offended or relieved.  He loves them.  He really does.  But some days he wonders just what the hell he was thinking when he agreed to move in with them all those years ago.
Sugawara keeps quiet for the entire walk from the house to the shopping district.  Which is nice.  It’s one of the reasons he enjoys Sugawara’s company.  They can spend most of a day together hanging out and actually spend very little of it talking.  It’s especially refreshing on a day like today where he’s spent the last week cooped up with Rin and Ai both because their schedules all managed to align with the same stretch of free time.  Which unfortunately aligned with the rainiest, windiest week they’ve seen in months.
“I have one question,” Sugawara says eventually.  He’s staring off into the distance when Seijuurou glances up from the display of keychains he’s been poking through.  Sugawara’s got the kind of look on his face that makes Seijuurou both curious and mildly uncomfortable because he’s never sure if the look is going to lead to a hilarious story from Sugawara about something one of his many crow friends did once upon a time or if it’s gonna lead to the two of them missing ninety percent of their clothing running away from a swarm of bees.
Again.
“Okay,” he says warily.
“Why was the fact that it was broccoli and not oranges the bigger issue and not the fact that they were on fire in the first place?”
Seijuurou groans softly.  “That’s a long story.”
Sugawara shrugs.  “I mean.  I’ve got all day.  Tell me a story and I’ll buy you lunch?”
He doesn’t necessarily want to tell the story.  But he’s also not about to pass up free lunch.
“Okay.  So.”
“Rei.  Rei Rei Rei!”   Rei looks up just in time to catch Ai as he trips over his own feet and tumbles into Rei’s lap.  Ai immediately latches his arms around Rei’s neck and grins at him.   “I have to tell you something!”
Ai’s whisper is more of a shout but no one else really pays them much attention.  Which has more to do with most everyone else in the room being just as wasted as Ai is than it does them being granted a smidgen of privacy.
“What do you have to tell me?” Rei does his best to keep his voice at a reasonable level.  But he’s not totally sober either so he’s only moderately sure of his success.
Ai starts giggling and Rei can’t help but laugh along with him after a moment.
“I just.  You have to promise.  Okay?  You have to promise.”
“Okay.  I can do that.”  Rei manages to control his laughter.  “What am I promising?”
“Not to be upset that I didn’t tell you sooner.”
“Oh.  Okay.”  Rei nods.  “I’m not upset you didn’t tell me sooner.”
Ai snorts and Rei tries really, really hard not to start laughing again.
“I haven’t even told you yet.”
“Oh.  You’re right.  What do you have to tell me?”
Ai looks around the room with wide eyes.  He looks around too but doesn’t see anything out of the ordinary.  Rin and Seijuurou are sitting on the couch across from the chair Rei is currently sharing with Ai.  Haru, Nagisa, and a couple of Seijuurou’s friends that Rei can’t quite remember the names of are in the kitchen.  Momo disappeared down the hallway with Sugawara and Makoto a few minutes ago and Rei has half a second to wonder what, exactly, they’re up to before Ai tightens his arms and catches Rei’s attention.
“I have to tell you.”  Ai takes a deep breath and holds Rei’s gaze.  “I’m gay.”
Rei blinks a few times as this rolls around in his head.
“Oh.  Okay.”
Ai’s jaw drops with a gasp.  “That’s it?  Just ‘oh okay’?  That’s all?”
“I mean.  Your first kiss was with Uozumi followed immediately with a second kiss with Minami.  Your first date was with Nagisa.  Your first wet dream was about Rin and Haru.  Every person you’ve ever crushed on or gone out with has been a male.  So I kind of am not super surprised?”
Rin lets out a startled noise that has Seijuurou shushing him with a laugh.  Rin bats at Seijuurou’s shoulder and leans so far forward he almost falls off the couch.
“Haru was part of that dream?” Rin hisses.  “You never told me that he was involved!”
Ai blinks his big blue eyes at Rei and Rei quickly shakes his head.  He did not know that Rin didn’t know all the details and he may have accidentally just spilled the news but he wants no other part in this.  He’s clearly done enough.
“I trusted you,” Ai whimpers.  “I just told you I was gay and you, you, you spill my secrets like this?”
He can hear Rin grumbling in the background as Seijuurou makes comforting noises that Rin grumbles even louder at and he can see the starry watery sheen of Ai’s fathomless eyes and he feels a little bit like he’s about to be pulled underwater by something dangerous and very toothy and just out of sight and he swallows so hard that he’s sure the people in the kitchen can surely hear it.  He has a fleeting thought about sharks and blood and something else that’s on the tip of his tongue.
Cool hands land on his shoulders and he jolts, Ai nearly falling off his lap.  He tilts his head back even though he already knows who is standing there.
Haru quirks a smile down at him and the fleeting thoughts about sharks and blood are much less fleeting.  For all that he’s often characterized as a fish or a dolphin among their friends Haru is more of a fucking shark in the water than any of the Samezuka team have ever been.
“Aiichirou,” Haru says in a quiet, firm voice that has even Rin falling silent, no doubt holding his breath to hear whatever Haru is about to say.  “You told the wet dream story to Nagisa.  While he had you on speaker when he was in my room with me and Kou.  You went into terrifyingly explicit details.  I very highly doubt Rei is the one spilling your secrets.”
Ai pouts up at Haru for a few seconds and, once he realizes that Haru isn’t going to crack, he sticks his tongue out and wriggles himself out of Rei’s lap so he can flop on the couch with Rin and Seijuurou.
“Thank you, Haruka,” Rei whispers.  Haru smiles sweetly at him and kisses the top of his head softly.
“You’re welcome.”
“You need new friends.”
Rin startles a little and looks over curiously.  “What?”
“I said that you need new friends.”
“I heard you.  But.  What the fuck do you mean by that, Takuya?
Uozumi shudders.  “First of all.  It’s weird when you say my name.  You’ve called me that like three times in the decade or so we’ve known each other please don’t.  Second of all.  I am classifying myself in that category.  Get new friends.  Please release me from this torture.”
“Torture?  I am a delight to be friends with.”  Nagisa snickers and Rin smacks him on the back of the head without even looking.  “You will never find another friend as great as me shut up, Nagisa.”
Uozumi points at Nagisa like he’s making some grand point of some kind.  Rin rolls his eyes because, really?  Any point you’re making using Nagisa as an example — good or bad — is kind of a ridiculous point as far as Rin is concerned.
“I didn’t even say anything,” Nagisa protests.  “Damn.”
“You didn’t need to.  Your face says plenty even when your mouth is shut.”
“Oh yeah?”  Nagisa smacks Rin’s shoulder.  “What’s it saying now?  Huh?”
Uozumi sighs —  in a way that is far too dramatic for someone who willingly chooses to spend time with Momotarou of all people — as Rin turns to glare at Nagisa.
“It says you’re just jealous that I’m hot and have two hot boyfriends while you have… whatever it is that you have with your odd looks and strange little squishy cheeks.”
Nagisa’s eyes narrow dangerously and Rin grins in response.
“Your boyfriends are about to become widows,” Nagisa growls.  Rin has enough time to jump to his feet and get a few long strides away before Nagisa launches himself at him.
He thinks he hears Uozumi mutter something about new friends again but then Nagisa somehow manages to catch Uozumi’s elbow and then Rin is running for his life as they chase him down the beach.
Seijuurou rolls over with a groan when Rin pokes his side.
“Breakfast in bed,” Ai coos.  “Just for you.”
“Happy Birthday, old man,” Rin adds.
“Thirty is not old,” Seijuurou grumbles.
“Yeah.”  Ai pokes him this time until he opens his eyes and sits up against the headboard.  Ai hands him a plate and kisses his forehead.  “Thirty isn’t old.  You’re right.”
Rin kisses his cheek.  “But thirty-one is,” he teases.
Seijuurou’s gonna get him back for that.
Later.
After he eats his breakfast in bed.  And maybe takes a nap.
It’s his birthday, after all.

i humbly request a trick or treat featuring Suga and Tanaka and your choice of swim boy
Come play Trick or Treat, and I’ll leave you with sweetness and fluff, or darkness and twistiness.
Trick
Everyone had expected Seijuurou to jump right into competitive swimming after university. They always saw his frame, his muscles, and his accolades, and quickly made assumptions.
What they didn’t see was the hard work Seijuurou had put into his business management degree, or the cooking classes he snuck in, between his usual course load, practices, and his social life. They didn’t realize that he had goals, dreams, and aspirations far beyond anything swimming could ever accomplish for him.
And that was their first, and usually only, mistake.
So far, only one other person had managed to see through him - see into him, see who, and what, he was, and fully accept him. Seijuurou had wasted no time in marrying that man the first chance he could.
He and Makoto had opened their little café not long after Makoto had retired from personal training. Retired was a strong word. Makoto had simply tired of having an effect on other people in that particular manner. He had other, more creative and clever ways of reaching out to the people he assisted. Which meshed very well with Seijuurou’s particular skillset.
When Seijuurou had approached him with the idea, Makoto had smiled brightly, and immediately agreed. They planned, and they worked - Makoto for a few more years as a trainer, and Seijuurou in any kitchen, restaurant, café, or food-adjacent job that would take him. It had been grueling, but they finally made it.
The little bookshop that had opened next door to them had been a delightful addition to the neighbourhood. Makoto had always loved reading, and Seijuurou was always on the hunt for new recipe books. The couple themselves - Tanaka and Sugawara - were equally as delightful.
Tanaka had gone through similar experiences as Seijuurou - the meathead with no brains stereotype. Proving everyone wrong was working out for both them.
Tanaka had the special recipe books squirrelled away in the back that he loaned Seijuurou, and Seijuurou let them sell an exclusive blend of tea that he and Makoto had developed together.
Seijuurou wasn’t entirely sure if the couple were fully aware of the effects of the tea. Surely, with the nature of the recipe book Seijuurou had adapted the recipe from, Tanaka and Sugawara must have suspected. They surely knew it wasn’t simply a seasonal tea blend. They must have suspected, when their customers never made much of a second appearance at either of their shops.
And just in case they did know, and they did have something up their sleeve, Seijuurou had a contingency plan. Makoto had made sure of it. And if there was one thing Seijuurou would do above all else, it was protect the man who had seen into his soul, and chosen him as his mate.
