I just looked into vintage story, and the game was released in 2016 by a Latvian team of 8 people. It doesn't have the resources to keep pumping new content in the game to make it bigger.

I remember when Minecraft was in beta, and even when it released, and it had like 4 biomes... And if it never got the resources it did, it probably would never be past the like 6 biomes and the basic mobs. Go play the first versions of bedrock Minecraft and tell me you don't get bored after a week of playing.

Also, age has a big influence in this. When you are young you can feel entertained hours on end with very little, but as you grow up and start relating to things and understanding the world around you better, and yourself as a person, you start wanting specific things from things, that you didn't previously. Which is what I think is happening to you. So the solution I would say is keeping with what you know you like, or continue searching until something clicks, but keeping an open mind and maybe search out of your comfort zone. Try platformers, action games, rpgs, rogue-likes, and you will maybe find something that intersects your interests.

I'll give you my example: I love pokemon, and have been playing since it came out, when I was 6 years old. But I hate it's genre of games, which are turn based rpgs. Every other turn based rpg I've tried I felt was too slow for me and I hate how much I have to strategize to play them. I just want a good story and to melt through the enemies, maybe have difficult battles, but that aren't dependent on me having to play 5d chess to do them. So I found out, quite recently, that although I love pokemon, my favourite genre of games is actually action rpgs. I still play every single main line pokemon game that comes out, but I don't play turn based rpgs beyond that. I can't stand them. Also platformers are not for me. I grew up playing Mario, but they are really not something that I love playing.

So, again, I suggest you trying something different, and find the genre that you really like. Also, you could look into walkthroughs and gameplay videos to see if you'd like something before playing it. But don't feel too stuck on the "right way to play the game". The right way is the way you enjoy it.

i used to get absorbed in games so easily and i played nothing but minecraft for legit 5 years so this era of picking up new games and getting bored of them quickly is disconcerting to say the least

I don’t know any friends that live close by that have the game, so I don’t really that option. But I appreciate the thought. 

Based on the walkthroughs, there is a bit more enemy variety, but not by much. Such variety seems to be unique to one temple, while the rest are almost basically the same. Also, it seems that combat still comes down to a series of hack-and-slashes (for the most part), which unfortunately is just not my thing. 

Most of the games I played overall were combat based, but I think (people can correct me on this) that the past 10 or so years have seen a surge of building/crafting games (like Minecraft) that may have influenced greatly on what the majority of players want from their games. Building/crafting-wise, I only grew up with Legos and Sims (which I think as more of bizarre and domestic building game), so I just don’t feel any particular desire to play building/crafting games in a digital world when that same world has the potential to give me other gameplay options. 

I realize my complaints are mostly subjective and kind of whiny (and maybe even petty), but I’ll give BotW and TotK this: their plots and narratives are much more developed than in previous games (although I remember thinking, a couple of years back, that the ending of BotW was anti-climatic; I would have to check that again if I still think about the ending like that). There are some narrative stuff that don’t do anything for me (what can I say, I liked the more creepy/apocalyptic/darker/mythic aspects of the old games, including Wind Waker; and some of the character developments and interactions in TotK feel too same-y for my tastes), but at least the team is trying. 

But who knows, maybe one day I’ll actually play the games and change my mind.

SCC Video Gaming Headcanons!

All three:   -They’re ALL gamers.  Every single one.  It’s kind of hard not to be when you live in a city where everything IS video games!

-Animal Crossing!  They've all got a town, with K_K as the mayor / island rep.  He genuinely enjoys having fun with all his islanders, even if those interactions are a little shallow, and visiting other islands (he is low-key looking for cuter islanders, though he'd never say it out loud because he doesn't want his current ones to feel bad).  Cap'n is addicted to making patterns and terraforming/redecorating the island; everything's completely different from week to week.  Sweet's trying desperately to complete the museum, and tends to scream and panic at the end of every month if there's any bugs/fish they missed!  And of course, every Saturday night they all make time to see KK Slider perform!

-Of course, RHYTHM GAMES!!  Sweet's a master at Guitar/DJ Hero and Beatsaber, Cap'n gets more into Rhythm Heaven or Parappa, and K_K can and will hit every single step in DDR on the highest difficulty.  All three also totally play Band Hero together, with Sweet on the guitar, K_K on the drums, and Cap'n on the mic.

-They legitimately use Smash Bros to settle arguments sometimes.  All three fight over who gets to be R.O.B., though K_K usually concedes first and goes for Kirby instead.

-They've also all got a soft spot for Mega Man, especially the Classic series.  Sweet in particular cheers whenever the Yellow Devil shows up (and then dies to them immediately).

Sweet: -Has their own Minecraft server, where they build a ton of complex structures and redstone mechanisms.  K_K and Cap'n are allowed on only if they promise not to grief their builds.  (Cap'n usually breaks that promise and gets kicked.  He is NOT to be trusted with lava.)

-Also really into Moonbase Alpha, unironically.  Nothing frustrates him more than trying to actually maintain his base while everyone else is spamming "John Madden" or "aeiou" (Though, he did indeed sample the chat spam for a song once...)

-Nintendogs.  He's got three chihuahuas -- Sir Snuggles, Fluffy the Destroyer, and Marigold -- and GOD HELP YOU if you slight them in any way, or interrupt him in the middle of their thrice-daily walkies.

-He's also got an old Neopets account, but only logs in like once a year to check on things.  He keeps meaning to get back into it, but it just never happens...

-Likes retro gaming in general, pulling out stuff that the other two have never even heard of!  Sadly, he doesn't quite have the reflexes they demand of him, but he still has fun.

-Is still trying to beat the original Legend of Zelda on his own, without looking up a guide/walkthrough.  Cap'n keeps dropping hints to play the whistle at a certain pond, but Sweet's just too stubborn to listen to him...

Cap'n: -Dating sims and visual novels, where he makes sure to play every single route.  Come on, you KNOW that's where he got all his knowledge of how dating works!

-Also loves JRPGs, and may or may not get fashion ideas from them.

-Really, REALLY gets into the Sims, where he's got entire neighborhoods of Sims whose lives and relationships he controls like a soap opera (they're constantly kissing).  Of course, he's also got one house reserved for three Sims designed after him and his bandmates, who he's sure to take extra special care of.  (They kiss too, but not because Cap makes them...)

-Will ALWAYS be in the final 10 when he plays Tetris 99.  He just...gets really into the zone, and is able to keep the board clear no matter how fast things get.

-Also does surprisingly well with FPSes?  Only plays the campaigns, though, or with K_K on co-op -- he's too shy to attempt playing online with people who might recognize him.

-Has a secret Let's Play channel that NO ONE is allowed to know about, not even Sweet or K_K!  He's terrified of anyone recognizing him, so he refuses to go on camera, and even changes his voice!  (yoinked this one from @andersam5 !)

-(Overall hides his gaming habit in general, outside of his bandmates, afraid of being labelled a nerd.)

K_K: -All of them.  No, seriously, they love video games the most out of the three, which if you've read this far is saying a lot!

-REALLY into Pokemon, became the champion in every single entry at least once and even plays competitively to a degree!  Still hasn't completed the Pokedex, though.

-Also, appropriately enough, their attention span makes WarioWare games a breeze for them!

-Absolutely ADORES racing games, of course, and especially likes the more realistic ones like Gran Turismo and Forza, that let him tune up real cars and pretend to be them.  He'll also play Mario Kart, though there's a house rule in place that if Sweet or Cap'n get a blue shell K_K HAS to just accept it and let them win for once (it's the only break the two of them ever really get!)

-They can play through Silent Hill without even flinching.

-Super into those old mascot platformers like Sonic and Crash Bandicoot and Spyro and Banjo-Kazooie and, of course, Kirby.  Knows absolutely every bit of obscure Kirby lore and will infodump if you let them.

-Actually plays bullet hells like Touhou pretty well, though not GREAT.  It’s their worst genre. 

-Enjoys traditional games and board games as well, and has a whole shelf of them in the shop.  Most are missing pieces, since they were all dug out of the trash, but K_K improvises new ones, or just discards the rules entirely, inventing their own games with the pieces they have!

I suppose i should outline some of the stuff I have thought about with the Housemates AU.

- It’s Helmeppo’s house (since his family was real rich) but it was way too big for one person so he invited Tashigi and Zoro to come live with them.

-All their friends end up getting along so its basically a revolving door of visitors, which they actually find really nice.

-Every halloween they have a weekend ‘party’ to watch scary movies and do halloween stuff.

-Even though it isn’t their main thing, each of them has a youtube channel for let’s plays. They also have a joint account for ones they do together that gets really popular.

-Zoro’s channel is a lot of horror and adventure games. It gets pretty popular because he’s just so chill about the horror he plays that when a game starts getting to him, you know it’s scary.

-Tashigi plays a lot of fighting games and big rpg kind of games, like Dragon Age or Fallout. People love her because as much as she wrecks people in fighting games, she’s still really sweet and tries to be as nice as possible in rpgs.

-Helmeppo plays a variety of different genres, but almost all of them are point and clicks. He also plays minecraft and the pokemon games on his channel. It’s arguably the most popular due to his videos being so chill and relaxing.

-Their joint account is more popular than the three of them combined, despite the vague update schedule. They have all sorts of vlogs that have such wild chaotic energy, but their let’s plays are what hook people. They’ll play puzzle games like the Professor Layton series or Nany Drew and try to go through it with no walkthrough. Not a concept that would be initially funny, but hearing their singular shared braincell bounce between them as they talk through puzzles gets people laughing.

-Zoro and Tashigi both work like, typical jobs. Helmeppo does work but it’s more of a side job because he doesn’t technically have to. It’s more based on his hobbies that someone else would like a lot more than him just keeping it around.

-After all the shit he went through with Morgan, Helmeppo makes sure that their friends know that if they need help, for any reason, they can just come over.

-They have a spare walk in closet as a dedicated display room for cool swords and knives they have impulse bought over the years.

Gregtech: New Horizons Base Post 1

Hi. You might not know me. That’s fine! I play lots of modded Minecraft and have been for the last five or so years. I’ve recently gotten into Gregtech and its associated modpacks. Here’s a little walkthrough of my GT:NH base as it is right now, after a week or so of slow progress. Here’s the obligatory creative screenshot of the whole place. Not too impressive on the outside is it?

I’ve made a weird punji stick sort of water trap to keep mobs from busting down my door. The mobs on GT:NH are a huge pain in the ass. Let’s go inside.

Chests galooooore. I swear I have a method to my madness. Weasel Mansion is a joke with my brother who sometimes plays on this world as well, but most of the work on progression has been mine alone.

Basically the start of industry here. Coke oven and a washing cauldron for those pesky crushed ores. I was blessed with a few wood-to-iron upgrades in the very early game from loot bags. 

Ahh the Tinker’s smeltery. The recipe for grout and ALSO the seared brick blocks themselves were Gregged in a way that was just annoying as hell. Had to bring a tinker’s workbench outside to bucket the NOT INFINITE water for each brick and block. I’ve got a few ingots of aluminum brass chilling in there waiting for my next tinker’s quest upgrade to unlock.

Yesterday I finally got a Railcraft multiblock tank going for storing the steam required for the first tier of Greg machines. Good LORD this thing took a lot of iron. When there’s no fortune option in Tinker’s for Gregtech ores, it makes each ingot spent feel that much more important. And painful. 

Here you can also see my sad early attempt at Gregtech piping. Still figuring it out, because while I had quite a bit of experience automating GT machines on Omnifactory, that was with the help of Ender IO and AE2. Gregtech: New Horizons forces you to play by Greg’s rules and use his piping and wires at least in the early-midgame.

Here’s my fancy schmancy staircase to bedrock. Why, you ask? Gregtech ores spawn in veins, in a sort of confusing way that you might be able to deduce from looking at my Journeymap locations. 

To explain in the very dumb way that makes sense to only me, you start at a chunk you KNOW is an ore chunk (it shows you thankfully on the upper left of the screen in this GT:NH version) and then, dig through two chunks up, down, left, right, and you will arrive at another ore chunk that has the POSSIBILITY of having an ore vein spawn. Then you need to either tunnel down to bedrock, or as I’ve done here, tunnel upwards until you either find an ore vein of some type or get frustrated as it is the 25% chance to not have any ores at all.

Anyways. This post turned to griping about a modpack that specifically warns you that it’s going to be difficult as all hell, LOL. I plan to play through at least the early game of this pack, hopefully! It shows a lot of promise gated behind a lot of Greg.
