umm i think ppl are over reacting,, az was not being toxic or possesive, he's been pining for elain for 3 years and he now knows she feels the same way for him,, and to the ppl that said that him being turned on was creepy,, wait till we see elains pov bc im pretty sure she was thinking the same. pls it's okay to not like scenes and characters and ships but cmon,, some eluciens are butchering him

Hi Nonnie! I heard that the fandom was getting crazy so I’ve been avoiding looking at posts and stuff. If Az came off creepy it wasn’t because he was turned on. LMFAO. Elain was turned on, too. SHE ALSO INITIATED THE ENTIRE SCENE! We don’t even need her POV to tell us what she wanted either—Maas straight up tells us this in that scene. LOL to everyone who skipped that part and those lines. I mean… it wasn’t even subtext. It was literally written on the page. (I’m writing an analysis of that scene, stay tuned!)

If he came off creepy, it was because he articulated a sense in entitlement—which given the situation wasn’t entirely out of line! Sorry, it just wasn’t.

And here’s why: We’ve all had moments where we are so fucking mad—and everything around us seemed to be going in everyone else’s favor BUT ours—so we got angry. And vengeful. And we got a little lost in those feelings, some of us drowned in them, and we did things and said things and we came off like a fucking asshole. FACTS.

If some people think that’s never happened to them, then they’re either lying to themselves or not paying attention to themselves. It’s as simple as that, Nonnie.

We all do dumb, potentially toxic things when we’re mad or upset. That’s the law of the land and not one single person in the fandom, or the world, is above that. Not. One.

And LETS. BE. REAL. Elain is NOT above reproach for the role she *actively* plays in this cluster fuck. She is just as guilty of stringing Lucien and Az along in that she hasn’t made a decision on whether to accept or reject the mating bond. Or in just saying “Look, Lucy, babe, I don’t like this. It’s stressing me out. Please leave me alone for the next 2.5 years or until I say ‘when’ before you come around again. Thanks!” She doesn’t even need to say it to Lucien. THAT’S THE KICKER. She could tell Feyre. Tell one of the Shadows to tell Feyre or Rhys or Mor and Nesta OR ANYONE with the power to say “Hey, we can’t invite Lucy to Solstice because Elain doesn’t want it.” This is a situation where getting other people to play the bad guy for you, is 100% socially acceptable.

Hell, LUCIEN could be the one to initiate this. To pick up on what Elain IS NOT THROWING OUT and say, “Hey, Rhys, babe. Thanks for the Solstice invite, but I don’t think Elain appreciates my presence, and I don’t want to make her uncomfortable. How about I send you her gift from me, then I, like, check in every now and then and you can find a way to let her know I’m in town and if you invite me to dinner, I’ll take that as a sign that she’s okay with me being there for dinner and nothing more. No expectations.” It’s not hard.

(We could argue that Lucien continuing to come around IS JUST AS WEIRD/CREEPY. READ THE ROOM DUDE.)

Now I WILL say that there is an argument to be made that Elain *may* not grasp the gravity of a mating bond because she was born in a different culture. That’s totally fair. BUT she’s had plenty of time to learn what that means having spent so much time around Feyre and Rhys and the others.

So the idea that Azriel is the only one who deserves to be vilified is nonsensical.

ALSO, and this is something I will be including in the analysis I’m working on and will hopefully finish tomorrow (I’m going to break that Az POV down so that everyone and their third cousin, twice removed, can understand), is that AZRIEL’S WHOLE SHTICK IS WAITING. He looooves to wait. Fucking LOVES it. It’s his whole job y’all. It’s weird, and related to his daddy issues when you apply it to females, but it’s his life. He LITERALLY tells us this in ACOSF. Remember at the end when Cassian is complaining about how he HATES spying because he has no patience?

Az is like “It seems you’ve forgotten how much of spying is waiting for the right moment. People don’t engage in their evil deeds when it’s convenient to you.”

Cassian explains why he stopped spying because it “...bored him to death. I don’t know how you put up with this all the time.”

Az says, “It suits me.”

BOOM.

MF BOOOOOM.

Az likes to play the long game. Not saying it’s healthy, but that suits him. He’s good at waiting. He HAD TO BE. HE WAS LOCKED AWAY FOR YEARS AND HAD TO WAIT FOR THE CHANCE TO SEE HIS MOTHER. And the sun. And his hateful brothers. He doesn’t know any better/how else to be. And there is a lot of trauma and conflicting feelings tangled in this.

It’s only creepy when you fail to grasp the nuance. But if you stand too close to a painting, you can’t see the whole thing. Back up, people. Back up.

Az has spent his whole life waiting. It’s how he learned to be. And now that his brothers are all happily mated he’s looking back on all his waiting—on his entire life—and he’s having a crisis. Or a crisis is looming. What has his waiting gotten him? Why has his patience not been rewarded? Why not him?

You combine that thinking with anger and you’ve got a recipe for momentary entitlement. For rage so thick and consuming that you want to punch a wall and work yourself to death because at least when you’re working you can compartmentalize and not deal with the reality that YOUR ENTIRE LIFE MODEL hasn’t worked for you. That you got left behind somewhere and it was your fault.

Az is headed for a mid-life crisis or an emotional breakdown—or some big horrific moment where he realizes he can’t keep doing what he’s been doing, that his entire world is built on a foundation that’s crumbling. And if you’ve never ever had that happen to you, then I’m jealous. And I’m happy for you. Because it’s terrifying. Bloody awful fucking terrifying.

Taking a sip from my pepsi: So anyways, AZs design is obviously based on Zygarde, the black of his jacket and green of his long scarf, his white hair as call backs to the few white hexagons and the red of his hat and his blue pants, to represent his role in the story and Kalos history. Because according to Lysandre he pretty much rebalanced Kalos with what happened 3k years ago, the same way Zygarde is said to protect the ecosystem. He fills Zygardes role and Lysandre fills Yveltals role his design reflecting it with his mainly black suit, the red being hidden in the inside, the fur around his neck and his piercing blue eyes, he is someone who intends to do the same thing AZ did once before. According to the story he intends to TAKE the lives of many before causing mass destruction and murder a destroyer just like Yveltal. And Augustine being the obvious counterpart to Xerneas, his gray eyes, the blue of his shirt, his black pants and yellow belt taken directly from it and placed at a similar place. This as well reflects his role, being a helping hand in your journey, someone kind that GIVES you a lot of helpful tools and support. However Xerneas isn’t the only character he shares a color palette with. He shares a color palette with AZs Floette, the white of what could be said to be her skin being reflected in his lab coat the blue responding with his shirt, sharing gray as an eye color, while red and black are part of her design they aren’t placed the same on Augustine, his pants being black and the red only reflected in his socks. This color palette is however shared with one more character, that being AZ, specifically before the Ultimate Weapon. AZs palette having been shown as white, blue, red and black with a possibility of brown, which is the only color missing from the other two, that is a part of Augustines design. The only color that directly responses being the black of their hair. Which could indicate, especially with Augustine being the one to have apparently discovered the Zygarde cube, that he too might go down a smiler path to AZ. Possibly trying to bring someone back to life and being the one that try’s to replicate the other one of AZs ancient sins. The KFC employee at the drive through window: I was just wondering if it was okay for you to wait five minutes, over there for your food.

Hi! I’m an Elriel, but I have a totally legitimate question that I’m hoping you’ll clear up for me!

So if you don’t think Gwyn is a lightsinger (which I’m pretty sure you don’t and that’s totally your prerogative), why do you think Sarah invests so much time and specific, descriptive language into depicting Gwyn a certain way and especially when she’s singing? Just that there’s mentions of Nesta feeling entranced, of Gwyn glowing (which is repeated a bunch) etc.

Is it just that you think Gwyn has autumn court powers, or that she really is just THAT good at singing 😅?

Hi! Sorry this took a few days, I knew I was going to write a long response and I was doing a readathon last weekend. 🥰 Also I hope the fandom isn’t getting you down. 😬

Short answer - Nesta really likes music and most of the main characters glow at some point in the series. Sometimes we can read the story at face value, especially since sjm tends to use the same metaphors and descriptions across multiple contexts. Occam’s razor tells us that the simplest explanation of things is usually the right one, and I think that really needs to be applied to a lot of the readings of this series because sjm is Not That Deep.

Longer answer:

I think the Nesta and Gwyn singing thing is easily explained by the fact that Nesta stans music in general. It’s something huge that we learned about her in acosf - she used music in much the same way that she used alcohol and sex, and if you listen to a choir or chanting irl, it’s mesmerizing. It’s beautiful. The main difference re: music, alcohol, and sex, is that Nesta has always loved music (and dancing) and so that’s why the gift Cassian got her was so great. It was personal to her as a character.

Here are some examples of Nesta’s connection to music (in multiple contexts, not just in relation to Gwyn) (also the word music is used 81 times):

Sex, music, and drink she’d learned this past year - all of it helped.

That thing deep in Nesta stirred, but she ignored it, pushed it down as best she could without the distraction of music or sex or wine.

“Yes,” Elain said. “She was trained in dance from a very young age. She loves it, and music. Not in the way I enjoy a waltz or gavotte, but in the way that performers make an art of it. Nesta could bring an entire ballroom to a halt when she danced with someone.”

But what Feyre does with paint, that’s what Nesta did with music and dance.

(Nesta to Gwyn) “It’s a long story, and not one worth telling, but through it all, I picked taverns and pleasure halls to frequent because of the music. I’ve always loved music.”

(same scene) “The drinking, the males, I don’t miss any of it. But the music... that I miss.”

And then Gwyn invites Nesta to come listen to the singing. Occam’s razor = Gwyn saw that her friend was in pain and missed something that she loved, and offered her a chance to experience it again. It’s after this that Nesta ends up unintentionally scrying to find the harp, and it makes sense that music is what would help her with that because she uses it to forget her anxieties (see: the first two quotes above).

I was going to do a full meta on the use of the word “glow” in acosf, but when I did a search in my ebook it came up 64 times 💀 Some examples, and I tried to vary the uses I found:

immortal glow radiating from Elain’s fair skin

Amren’s eyes glowed, a remnant of the power that once burned inside her

Rhys’s violet eyes glowed

his siphons glowing

Gwyn’s hair seemed to glow brighter with her song

“do you know that your eyes glow when your power rises to the surface?” (Cassian to Nesta)

Elain had been glowing the next morning

Gwyn lowered her hands, noted the lack of glowing power in Nesta’s eyes, and sighed in relief.

And inch by inch, fresh steel glowed - truly glowed, like moonlight lay within the metal

Her eyes practically glowed in the dimness (Nesta)

No grey fire glowed in her eyes (also Nesta)

His grin was brighter than the glowing siphon (Cassian)

One small lantern glowed, faintly illuminating

Nesta seemed to glow with the attention

Eris’ eyes gleamed with wanton desire, as he drank in Nesta’s smile, the glow about her

And as a side note, in acowar (I believe? someone correct me if I’m wrong) Lucien’s hair is also described as glowing when he gets upset. I think it’s when he and Feyre are escaping the Spring Court.

Another side note, Feyre, Nesta, and Elain are all described as glowing during and after sex.

So what I get from this, in this mini meta, is that “glow” is used in two ways:

to show that something is going on with fae powers,

or as literal description of light

While yes, Gwyn is described as glowing, the word is used most often to describe Nesta’s eyes glowing, although Lucien, Rhys, Amren, Elain, Cassian, and Feyre all glow at some point as well, and more than once. That alone points to it being maybe about fae power, but if we were to say that Gwyn glowing = lightsinger, then what does it mean when all these other characters glow?

Occam’s razor = Nesta is super into music, nearly all the characters glow when their powers are acting up.

The idea of lightsingers is cool, especially if it were used to complement or contrast shadowsingers. But then their description in acosf is.... creepy af. And there isn’t any description of glowing (or singing!) as being inherent to their power. I don’t think anyone has ever suggested that Azriel, as a shadowsinger, tortures his victims with... song? Or lures them with song?

My main thing with analysis of certain words or phrases is that they need to be applied across the board. If we’re going to say that use of a word is super important in one context, then it should be looked at in all contexts. That’s when it becomes a theme, and so looking at the word (or phrase, or idea) across contexts can tell us what the theme is. For example, discussion of Az’s shadows should include every instance of them being described for the full picture to emerge. I think there are other examples that make people think Gwyn is a lightsinger but glowing and music aren’t enough because when looking at the broader context and use of those words 1) there is way more evidence to show that Nesta was being influenced not by Gwyn’s “power” but more by her own preference for music, and 2) If we’re going to say glowing is a lightsinger thing then almost everyone in the books is a lightsinger.

I hope this makes sense! Sorry this got long, I like to cover all my bases.

Miniature Bull Terriers

Temperament:

- Upbeat, Mischievous, Comical, Fearless, “Terrier fire”

Size:

- Height: 10-14 in @ the shoulders

- Weight: 18-28 lbs

Life Expectancy:

- 11-14 yrs

- activity levels tend to slow down around 11-12 yrs

About:

- Almost exactly like the Bull Terrier

- Square, muscular, strong for their size

- Large, egg-shaped head and dark, triangular eyes

Nutrition:

- In order to not change a dog’s diet too fast, find out what your new puppies diet was at the breeder’s.

- For a day or two a puppy may not eat because of the new surrounding, any longer than that; contact a vet.

- Don’t leave food down for a puppy if it doesn’t clear it.

- If the puppy experiences any other symptoms, then contact a vet

- If not, the puppy is most likely ‘training the owner’, bull terriers tend to do this, don’t put the food back down and continue with feeding normally.

- Follow breeder/vet advice on portions; bull terriers are sensitive to becoming overweight.

- Ask your breeder for a natural method feeding chart

- Bull terriers have very powerful jaws and can chew off and swallow pieces of bones which can cause blockages in the digestive system.

- Don’t give your mini bull terrier bones

- Raw hide chews should NEVER be given to bull terriers (including minis!)

- They can be swallowed and get stuck in the throat

Grooming

- Minis have fast growing nails, regular trimming is needed

- Minis are prone to “eye boogers”, just use a damp clothe to wipe them away and then a dry cloth to dry whenever you spot these

- At home weekly ear checks, look for wax (use a cotton ball to gently remove any wax), or infection (redness, swelling, bad odors). If any signs of infection, contact a vet

- Regular teeth brushing and vet cleanings

- Regular baths (every three months, unless your mini plays in dirt or mud (which is not unlikely!) then use a bristle brush to remove dirt then bathe immediately.)

- Use a hypoallergenic shampoo, minis have very sensitive skin.

- Outside shedding season a weekly once-over with a soft brush or a hound glove is all that’s needed for a well groomed bull terrier!

- During the twice a year shedding season (spring and fall) a daily once-over is recommended.

Basic Brushing

You’ll need: a bristle brush, a fine-tooth comb, and a grooming glove

1. Use bristle brush, start at head and work down he dog’s body, ending with the hind flanks (the space between the hip and thigh) and the tail. Be gentle but thorough!

2. Use the comb, use long strokes to remove loose hair.

3. Use the grooming glove.

4. (Opt.) Spritz a little conditioning spray or rub on a bit of coconut oil

Exercise

- Mini bull terriers require enough exercise to keep good muscle tone.

- Preferably access to a yard but can live in a sizable apartment or condo.

- A moderate walk daily is needed after the 1 year point

- NOT AN OUTSIDE DOG

- A “sudden lameness” can occur in puppies

- Puppies’ joints can’t handle the energy the puppy wants to exert

- Minimum exercise, no jumping up and down from heights, or sudden stops at high speeds for puppies

Training

- Minis will usually require a trainer with a firm hand and a gentle voice, with patience and a good sense of humor

- Clicker training is recommended

- Positive, light, and fun training that keeps the terrier’s attention is most effective

- Heavy socialization from 8-20 wks is essential, and starting training early is a good idea

- Canine Good Citizen programs are awesome!

Ask your breeder for:

- Health tests performed on sire and dam (father and mother)

- Results on heart and kidney issues, deafness, luxating patellas (a kneecap disorder), and primary lens luxation (dislocation of the eye lens) tests

Recommended Health Tests:

- Kidney-Urine Analysis

- Opthalmologist Exam

- Cardiac Exam

- PLL DNA Test

- May have issues with glaucoma, lens luxation, and deafness

- Susceptible to kidney disease

- Regular hearing and eye exams are highly recommended.

[Pokémon Sword/Shield] Galar and the Timeline

Okay. This is just a little bit of Lorekeeping from me. I didn’t want to wait until January to just... drop a lore dump (and considering everything that’s going on in my life, I’m not sure if I can make one large lore drop anyway), so let’s take things one at a time, starting with my mini-analysis of the most significant event in Galar History.

Note: MAJOR STORY SPOILERS AHEAD! I’ll get rid of the Read More when I drop the spoiler tag.

Sword: The core on its chest absorbs energy emanating from the lands of the Galar region. This energy is what allows Eternatus to stay active.

Shield: It was inside a meteorite that fell 20,000 years ago. There seems to be a connection between this Pokémon and the Dynamax phenomenon.

So, considering that Pokémon Sword and Pokémon Shield doesn’t make many references to past games (with the exception of maybe Kabu being from the Hoenn Region... No. I will not say that he’s Flannery’s grandfather until proven in either Masters or a follow-up), I’m going to say that the main games take place in the Mega Evolution Timeline unless told otherwise.

Anyway, The reason why I”m making this post is this: The Darkest Day, where Eternatus descended on the world, causing many wild Pokémon to Gigantimax and almost destroy the region, was very, VERY long ago. In fact, if the Pokédex is to be believed, this may be the earliest place in the main Pokémon timeline that we have (like, aside from things like Arceus’s creation, the making of the world, and whatnot).

For reference, the meteor in Sootopolis City that dispersed Infinity Energy and caused Primal Groudon and Primal Kyogre to war against each other and spawned the creation of the Draconids? That was 2,000 years ago. The Kalosian War that caused AZ to detonate the Ultimate Weapon that killed countless Pokémon, laid the groundwork for Mega Evolution, split the timeline, and cause AZ and Floette to live forever? That was 3,000 years ago.

More interesting is that the events 20,000 years ago has been so long that it’s almost been forgotten and twisted into legend by many generations of word-of-mouth and politics. Heck, even the Legendary Armory Trio (my tentative name for Zacian, Zamazenta, and Eternatus until someone creates a better name or the anime somehow ties Ash’s and Go’s journey with the three of them) were even lost, forgotten, and reshaped in history because it’s been so long ago.

Zamazenta, Shield: This Pokémon slept for aeons while in the form of a statue. It was asleep for so long, people forgot that it ever existed.

Zacian, Shield: This Pokémon has slumbered for many years. Some say it's Zamazenta's elder sister—others say the two Pokémon are rivals.

Consider this: how much of human history do we know in real life? Many of us can easily talk about the well-documented days of the Renaissance or of the ruling of the Ancient Greeks and Romans or even of the Han Dynasty, but that’s, what? 3000 years at most? Heck, for so long, we were trying to decipher even Ancient Egyptian hieroglyphs, which was only... 8,000 years ago? Any further back and we get folktales and theories based on stories (likely owing to the fact that writing back then was... not a thing in many places).

The reason why I bring this up is that it’s perfectly plausible that a legendary tale that actually occurred 20,000 years ago can be forgotten and misinterpreted, and that the rediscovery of ancient history can send ripples across, not only the region itself, but of historians around the world.

So, all in all, I’m just saying that the fact that this is the earliest place of human involvement in the timeline is really cool and this region already gets some lore bonus points from me. Now, if only we had more information on the “Fairy King”, how he relates to the brothers that ruled Galar after the Events of Zacian and Zamazenta, if Eternatus uses Infinity Energy in any way, if the one man in the Budew Inn that held in Sword and Shield actually existed or was conflated for the twin brothers due to word of mouth over generations (I’m leaning the latter), more about the upper class in Galar, whether that one bit about Olivia is canon or headcanon, HOW IN THE WORLD ROSE GOT HIS HANDS ON ETERNATUS, or what sonia’s battle team was/did she have a crush on Leon back in the day, that would be great.
