I’ve been working on this on and off for weeks and I’ve struggled to get it to a place I liked. I greyscaled it after the colors weren’t working… tonight I altered the shape and lo big black coat emerged. Ok, I can let it go!

So I made those some time ago because I was possessed by the idea of my darlings as the Four Horsemen of the Apocalypse.

Sooo...

Flint - War "[...] a red horse went out; and to him who sat on it, it was granted to take peace from Earth, and that men would slay one another; and a great sword was given to him." The fiery red of destruction and blood spilled during war; Flint punishing England for its sins.

Silver - Conquest "[...] a white horse, and he who sat on it had a bow; and a crown was given to him, and he went out conquering and to conquer." Seen as both Christ and Antichrist in interpretations, symbolizes war for the higher cause, just as the King of Pirates.

Madi - Law-giver "[...] a black horse; and he who sat on it had a pair of scales in his hand." The Law-giver interpretation imho fits better than Famine, since the Apocalypse is about judgment, and there is no judgment in famine, just death, a plague. Law-giving on the other hand...

Miranda - Death "[...] a pale horse; and he who sat on it had the name Death; and Hades was following with him." Death ruled by the means of the other three Horsemen - my mind went to Miranda, the one considered to be the witch who commanded Flint, who put into motion various plot points.

Black Sails is comfortably my favourite show ever and imo one of the best written and well put together and exciting stories ever, with some of the most interesting and well developed characters ...ever!

A quick bit about me & my story with Black Sails

I'm Ben and I had a unique first watch experience with Black Sails, I reacted to it back in late 2021 for my Youtube channel. That's right, every episode I digested in front of my webcam in the name of entertainment. I'm a very small channel so a well performing view count was only about 300 odd but had a lot of fun and enjoyed reading the comments as I worked thru this great series over the span of 4 or so months.

Here is a link to the first part of the first reaction for anyone that may be interested but I'll also link my reactions with my episode analysis as well in case anyone fancies a look.

I have decided a couple years and watch throughs later to start the journey once again, this time deep diving into the episodes and making notes as I go along, and even after just only the first episode I'm already spotting and appreciating so many things I haven't before.

So if you love this fantastic hidden gem of a show like me and fancy a read every so often of my episode reviews (I was going to make this a vlog but after episode 1 hasn't even got 50 views, I'll just get my thoughts out my system this way.)

currently reading: a closed and common orbit by Becky chambers, The Two Towers (the part with Frodo, Sam and Gollum). Also I subscribed to three newsletters this year: Silmarillion, LotR, and Sherlock Holmes. Every one of the books/stories but the Becky chambers is a re-read. Oh and in the same way I first experienced it, I'm currently reading book 1 of Lady Trents Memoirs to a couple of friends.

currently watching: the last thing I watched, and also the next thing I'm going to watch (in a different version), is a Let's Play of Life is Strange True Colors

currently consuming: nothing but I'm going to have to get up and make breakfast

currently craving: I'm too hungry to have a specific craving
