Black Sails Nation!!! We’re back!

And we’re back in a BIG way! The Truth About Eros by @aisalynn is a 4 plus hour episode featuring 2 hours of her stunning story, and another deep dive discussion where we talk about everything from Plato, to how much we both adore Madi, our mutual love of Anne Rice, why Silver and Flint are so perfectly yin and yang and how Silver absolutely cannot look at himself with any amount of introspection.

The Truth about Eros is a SilverFlint soulmate AU that I’d been begging to record since my days in Japan. @aisalynn has constructed a stunning epic tale of fate, longing, loss, and redemption. This story spans Silver’s entire history, from his pre-canon childhood, all the way through a post-canon reunion with Flint. It’s stunning in both its scope and its visceral prose and I’m sure, like me, you’ll be absolutely spellbound by it.

Last year, Reading Between the Lines premiered on Good Friday with A Vulgar Holy Thing by @lupismaris so it’s only fitting that, in closing out our first year, we once again launch episode 12 on Good Friday.

Once again, these episodes would not be the same without the gorgeous cover art and this month is no exception. Once again, Kelsey, aka @magicbubblepipe has absolutely blown our minds with their stunning work! Inspired by a sculpture by Antonio Canova, this piece features Flint as Eros and Silver as Psyche. Can I just point out how difficult the angle of Silver’s face is? Holy moly, what a talent!

Hello darling! <333 Ah yes! I thought you may be interested [eyes intensify]

Remember that little cinnamony fic? Well... I might have started a sequel. I've been working through my ptsd and I decided to write it out. I have no idea if anything will come out of it, but it's something I wanted to explore anyway so...

Silver is dealing with his own mental state after Howell doctored on him (I'm remembering the I do not want this when his leg was cut off). He's getting worse and so is his leg, because his mental state is not letting him take care of it properly. Howell tries to help but it only makes Silver's state more miserable. Flint comes in to rescue him from himself, offering support and understanding (because if anyone can, it will be my broken boy after he had lost Miranda and Silver is the last piece of humanity keeping him together... especially after Cinnamon <3 )

Snippet:

Shaking his head to clear it, Flint sat down gingerly at the edge of Silver’s nest of blankets, then leaned forward so he could see his face better. John’s eyes were still shut, but they opened as soon as he heard him speak. The wildness of that gaze twisted Flint’s stomach, and the way John became completely motionless made something tickle the back of his mind. He had seen it before. 

“He’s probably right. You should have that leg checked,” James observed, trying to remain clear-minded. The fear in John’s eyes only deepened, even if he tried to cover it up with an impatient shake of his head. “It’s fine,” he muttered back, grinding his teeth together. Flint sighed. “John-” “I said it’s fine,” Silver snarled, then looked around like he was searching for something. 

The moment his gaze fell upon his crutch, propped up against the desk, he sat up straight, ready to run. He grimaced in pain, but Flint suspected it wouldn’t be enough to stop him from dashing madly towards it. On instinct, he threw one arm out, which turned out to be a good thing - as soon as John had hopped down from the sill, his whole frame wobbled, and he pitched forward unsteadily. James caught him easily, bracing him up against the seat again, forcing him to sit back down lest they both lost their footing on the swaying deck. 

“Fuck, wait,” James cursed when he felt John struggling against him. “Let me go!” He demanded, trying to break free, heedless of his missing leg and his lack of balance. Flint grabbed him more tightly. “Wait, wait.” He shifted his hold and moved forward, trapping John between him and the window sill, both hands going to Silver’s wrists as he tried to push him away. “John, wait!” “Fuck off! Let me go!” “John-” “Let me go!” Silver near-on shouted, turning his face up to glare at him. The defiance in his eyes almost hid the dark void of fear, but Flint had seen it anyway.

For the ask game: Poseidon 👀👀

I had this idea that I talked about with @heycarrots and @blankbullet5 of Flint being Poseidon (or a child of Poseidon) and being the sea's favorite. He doesn't drown, he squeezes extra speed out of the Walrus, the wind comes when he needs it, the currents are always in his favor, he knows where to sail to get what he wants, etc. BUT! The catch is - he is kinda unaware of it himself. Silver puts this shit together in his head and confronts him. Cue in, Flint clumsily trying to use his powers when he thinks Silver is drowning. Silverflint as the endgame (there's A LOT of that pairing in what I write)

Snippet:

Silver sees none of it, too busy watching their captain whenever he can. They have been in the doldrums for a little over three days, and the sun baking them all mercilessly cannot be responsible for his state of mind in such a short time. They are drifting, but only John feels like he isn’t helplessly lost, hanging onto his newest obsession.  “Anything?” De Groot asks him, frowning down at Silver’s sprawled form. He has been sitting on the deck for the better part of the morning, pulling up eel cages, coming up with nothing. In reply, he shows the man another empty trap, then plunges it back into the water.  They have time still, he thinks, they’ll be out of there soon.  As soon as Flint gets out of his funk, that is, and works his magic on the ocean around them.  As if summoned, the captain walks out of his cabin and turns sharply towards one of the ladders leading below, his face as grim as ever. It has been like this since Charlestown - his features set in marble, his posture rigid. Gone was the ease with which he half-joked, half-threatened Silver, chased away by some ghoulish thoughts that have nothing to do with their current situation, and everything to do with Mrs. Barlow’s death.  Silver can’t help but wonder whether he can still bring a spark to the literal powder keg that Flint’s temper is, or whether it is all gone now, wet and useless.  He has seen Flint command this ship like a madman from hell, making the Walrus do things no vessel should be expected to do. He has seen Flint command men in a way that seemed almost frighteningly regal, with his chin up and his eyes blazing, like a creature from another world biding mere mortals to do his will.

I don’t think it’s gross, but I’ve never smoked for a couple of reasons. First, I had horrible childhood asthma. I’ve grown out of it, but my lungs are still fairly fragile. Two, I’m a singer, so I don’t do anything that might jeopardize my vocal integrity. Third, I’ve lost two grandparents to lung-related issues.

I’m a light/social smoker, I usually smoke around 5 cigarettes a day, if im stressed or im out drinking, then it’s more, but I can go without smoking for a week no biggie, im Hungarian and I use iqos

Going back to the start with Episode One, A Vulgar Holy Thing. I know this is technically MY podcast, so when I scream about how good this shit is, it may sound like I’m patting myself on the back, but no. Because this podcast only exists because of the art created and put out into the fandom by my guests. It’s beautiful because the writing is beautiful. It’s emotionally cathartic because this show brings those feelings to the surface. It’s healing because this fandom embraces its own and draws together to deal with the trauma that the aftermath can instill because of how deeply it speaks to all those who have, at one point in their lives, felt “othered”. It’s funny, because my guests are funny, this fandom is hilarious, and it’s smart and literary as hell because my guests are fucking brilliant. The only thing I’m responsible for is reading stories and having good taste. The rest is ALL OF YOU!

That said, everyone puts a LOT of heart into these episodes and I’d love it if you listened. And what’s even better is letting us know you’re listening. All I see are numbers. I want to know who you are and what moved you, so we can do MORE of that!
