Rewatched Misdirection and remembered how much the music in that episode fucking slaps and how much i need the in9 soundtracks to be released officially
Then was reminded that Christian Henson posted this absolute gem of the recording of the Misdirection score (with free sheet music for it linked in the description too! im no musician but something about having the actual score to read is so cool lmao)
so i downloaded the video, went through and clipped almost every one of the audio cues and edited together some of my favourite motifs from the score that repeat throughout
they arent great i wont lie, im not a musician nor a sound engineer, but i wanted to have longer audio clips of the motifs i liked, so i thought id share them on here too in case anyone else was interested lol

Inside no 9 - Series 5 painting studies ~
The next selection of individual paintings of my in9 painting series!
Idk if we're keeping track of how many times I've drawn the back of someone but here's another for the list! As a portrait artist I really don't get to draw many people's backs so I've enjoyed doing that in this series lol
I did mention it over on bsky but honestly drawing Maureen's corpse was unexpectedly a lot of fun lol The jaunty angle adds such a sinister but also ridiculous vibe to it that I love lol!
(also spot the matey lol!)
Also already mentioned this ... somewhere but I genuinely didn't intend for my Love's Great Adventure piece to be direction in the middle of my compilation lol but it works really well because hey! look! number 9!!
I did want to draw Reece's character from Misdirection but honestly at this point I was getting slightly sick of drawing close ups of faces pfft
I did complain about The Stakeout being so dark but that was honestly a godsend since dark screen shots are so much easier to paint lol (also I just totally loved the creepy gothic vibe from that shot!! I remember when I watched it and thought the way he looks here is very nosferatu-esque but with a great juxtaposition of it being at a car window! It's genius honestly lol)
You're probs sick of me saying it after every one of these but genuinely THANK you to everyone who has liked/reblogged/etc to any part of this series it means so much to me <3
#artists on tumblr#inside no 9#in9 fanart#digital art#art studies#painting studies#i have actually already uploaded all the individual shots to my bsky but it's gonna take me probs another week or so#before i finish uploading them all here!#realised i forgot to add the individual eps:#the referee's a wanker#death be not proud#love's great adventure#misdirection#thinking out loud#the stakeout

For the gifset thing: ✏️👓🏬🌹😑🤬
This was a hard one for me to choose a character for (and I apologise if you had a specific character in mind) but in the end I landed on Neville Griffin 🪄
Send me an emoji (or a set of emojis) and I'll make a gifset of the character that reminds me the most of that emoji

sounds exciting!! pls don't suffer too much but also love to see more of your art :)c some personal favs starting with three that just speak for themselves by being sick as hell
three from the same scene in simon says because. it's a good scene
this one doesn't look like much bc it's not a very good screencap and you need the motion + music but it does SUCH a good job of expressing the characters and their emotions in the moment
two from wise owl, the pan down on the second one is so funny and upsetting at the same time i feel like it really sums up the show
this one's just genuinely unsettling and they're so patient with it
and i've posted about these two before, these are the only ones here i've edited to make them a bit more legible but i love the blue and the shadows, i love drew's raw vulnerability and the simple space odyssey brutality of the crowbar, how it gets its own closeup, how it's framed by the straight lines on the wall/ceiling behind it, how you can see blake's stupid fucking bracelet peeking out from his sleeve
I just thought if a potentially great (hopefully??) but also kinda intense (for me) art project idea involving in9 that I'd love to be able to complete before the documentary is released (why? because I love suffering idk lol)
So all I ask of you is: which are some of your favourite shots from any inside no 9 episode? Feel free to leave them in replies/tags/etc (esp for episodes that maybe don't get a lot of love!)

Somewhere within me is a very long text post comparing The Riddle of The Sphinx and The Trolley Problem. The Trolley Problem is an echo of many, many episodes: Cold Comfort, Misdirection, The Last Weekend, Simon Says - others too probably.
But, above all, it is so Sphinx to me. It feels almost like it’s aware of it, and that the two episodes are in conversation with each other. They are very similar in terms of text - sharing character roles, dynamics, realisations, themes, and devices. But they also share subtextual elements. I think by now I’ve talked enough about the ‘transposition’ of characters in The Trolley Problem (Drew = Ellie, Robbie = Blake, Robbie = Ellie, Blake = Drew, Drew = Robbie) and how all that affects their dynamics + motivations. This is something that I feel is happening in Sphinx too, and it has similar affects on the characters as it does in The Trolley Problem.
There’s obvious comparisons between Blake and Squires. Some obvious comparisons between the Blake/Drew and Squires/Tyler dynamics. And obvious comparisons between Drew and Tyler. But where Blake and Squires are almost interchangeable, I think that Drew and Tyler are polar opposites, despite the similar roles they play in the episode. And that is so interesting to me. And I think a lot about how different Drew feels compared to Tyler and the rest of in9s revenge seeking gallery.
It’s hard to describe but it feels like Sphinx and The Trolley Problem are having the same conversation with the viewer, just with different language..?
Not sure if an entire analysis of these two episodes’ relationship with one another is interesting to anybody else. Do let me know. I rotate these two episodes around in my head a lot and ought to write something down somewhere, even if it’s just for myself.
#funny i predicted the general plot of the trolley problem weeks before it aired based on what previous eps the promo for it reminded me of#and most of my correct assumptions came from how much it was reminding me of sphinx#they’ve always been connected in my mind#<- it might just be me reaching again but i do think i have a case for what im saying#half of it at least#please tell me if you disagree though

What other eps will you be showing at your in9 watch party next week? Or are you saving that for a post/liveblog...? (hehe)
I was thinking probably Misdirection because two of the group know/have worked with Jill Halfpenny. And possibly The Last Weekend as it's another fave of mine. But I haven't fully decided!
I will probs do another liveblog of the evening ☺️

I finally finished Inside No. 9 after not watching an episode for ages. I had stopped in the middle of S7... Anyway, I took some notes about the episodes which are possibly interesting for a rewatch. They're pretty vague, but I'll hide them under the read more link just in case. ^^
Kid/Nap: Not my fave episode, but the double twist was kind of intriguing. Although I guess it would've been possible to expect it.
Wise Owl: Wow, I didn't expect this to get so dark towards the end. I mean, it wasn't a happy episode to begin with, but that 'come upstairs with me' bit... But I liked that he freed himself from the influence of 'Wise Owl' at the end.
Bones of St Nicholas: Didn't like this one too much tbh. It was a nice spooky story I guess, but not really what I'd expect from IN9 idk
Mother's Ruin: I'm glad I didn't watch this while I was eating something, lol. Idk, but I did quite like it. Lots of surprises (although I knew that it wasn't their mothers ghost talking lol)
Friday 13 (no, I can't remember that title and I'm not sorry xD): The first part was pretty funny, although really anxiety-inducing. That stuff about various annoying things happening when you just quickly need to do something happens in my dreams all the time and I hate it, lol. Well, the reveal of what it really was about was alright too. But I KNEW that something would happen in the end after all. I knew it.
Love is a Stranger: looking back it was so obvious what was going on, but it was a great misdirection, so I was nevertheless shocked when I realises the truth. Probably tells a story about prejudice and how it makes you perceive things and people
3 by 3: idk why, but this one made me really uncomfortable, even though I knew it was an ep of IN9 and not a quizshow. But I thought the twist was a bit too late, too small and if you knew what it was it was easy to pick up on the hints beforehand. I assume the effect would've been greater if watching it blind, but then I would've turned off long before the end of the episode because that was one lame quizshow :D
Last Weekend: HOLY FUCKING SHIT THAT ENDING, I think this is the first episode I definitely won't ever rewatch, lol.
Boo to a goose: this one made a big impression on me when I watched it and the social criticism is really important, but I think it loses a bit of its effect the more I think about it. It really is an interesting watch though and I kind of want to rewatch it to pick up on more hints like the ads on the windows etc.
Trolley Problem: I didn't expect the story to take this turn and I found it thrilling to watch (the mind game episodes are always the best ones tbh), but I can't really say much about it. Of course there's the moral thing that 'just doing nothing' doesn't mean you're free of any guilt.
Mulberry Close: I found this one oddly funny? The twist wasn't even that big, but the ending was just great black humour, I'd say.
CTRL ALT ESC: I actually really liked the metaphor, even though I didn't understand it at first. And I didn't expect that he'd actually made his 'escape', so the last minutes were pretty tense. Oh, and the title…I initially confused it with the command used to open the task manager, but that's Ctrl+Shift+Esc. The combination in the title is used to force a switch between the active and a background programmes (iirc), so in a sense…someone needed to use that key combination on him to get his programme aka consciousness to the surface again. Kinda clever, and yet you don't realise it immediately :O
Curse of the Ninth: Oh, I loved the classical music theme! The ending with that use of music (and the way he tricked her lol)! And Reece's character constantly getting Devonshire's name wrong was kinda hilarious to me…maybe because it didn't seem to fit the tone of the episode at all, haha.
Plodding On: They might as well have called this episode 'Steve and Reece say: RPF is fine' lol. It was an unusual episode, but idk, I kinda liked it. That fucking 'Time to say goodbye' clip collage tho…that song always almost makes me cry for some reason, haha.
