Today was a real blessing I know I’ll feel it tomorrow but it was worth it to. Great mental boost with a sacrifice of pain tonight and tomorrow. Toad was great today. So many distractions, food, kids, bright lights and the arcade. We went from game to game. He stayed in place while I bowled not well but I did it.So proud to say I’m Toad mom/handler. My mom was a devout Catholic when she died. She loved the Virgin Mary, as a mother herself and as a Labor & Delivery nurse. I find my mom in the sanctuaries of churches, in the faces of the nun sister, as much as I do in the words reflected from her friends and my siblings. We stopped in at a small Abbey tucked away in the Rocky Mountains of Colorado. The small Abbey functions as a farm and we passed a field of cattle on the way in. We were greeted by a sister who was delighted to see Ethel. "We have Simon!", she exclaimed, and promptly called for another sister to bring in their farm dog. In walked a giant, black bear of a Great Dane, three times Ethels' size, with a dopey smile when he saw Ethel. They circled and romped and tail wagged at each other, as Simon lifted Ethel's back end with his head every time he bent under her to sniff. We were invited to join the sisters for prayers and with Ethel back in her vest, we settled in the small chapel. The voices of the sisters singing their prayers rose and pressed against us like the warmth of their joy in meeting us. My mom lives in those moments, fleeting seconds of unquestionable welcoming and acceptance. This is something that's controversial and I'd like to share an opinion. Now Guy's handler is a great girl and does amazing on his fitness. But placing her pup in a shopping cart is disrespectful, and she continues to do it despite how much people try to educate her. 1. Dogs have dandruff (aside from a select few). This can be spread to the cart and cause an allergic reaction for others. 2. It spreads the idea to others that it's okay to have dogs in a cart, and it's not. Please keep dogs out of carts, In pet friendly and non pet friendly places.
