personal bias against kang-min aside, this was SO NOT IT. i mean i get that he was overcome by emotions and concern for solhee, but to straight up say all this to doha’s face, when the man almost got strangled to death a few moments back? isn’t that basically victim blaming??

I love the concept of My Lovely Liar because it is really about what people think is the truth, not the absolute truth. The first indication was the rich girl and her fiancé. He was in fact lying, but they didn't know the absolute truth of why until his proposal. The same thing has now happened with the cancer ex-boyfriend.

Mok Sol-hee hates hearing constant social lies, but Kim Do-ha points out that they are necessary. It actually goes back to what people think is the truth. "It's fine" is a social lie for sure, but what it means is that the person isn't going to press charges or keep being angry, they are letting you go. So "it's fine" in a way is absolutely true isn't if it's technically a lie.

Even her mother saying she wants to stop being a con artist. That may just be what she feels in the moment knowing that her con is falling apart. Emotions are transient, something can be true for mere moments. Even if Sol-hee hears a person honestly say they are in love, it doesn't mean that feeling will last.

The clues so far (Ep 8) are that like Syaon, Do-ha's ex-girlfriend threated to kill herself and he reacted very poorly (told her to do it) and then she disappeared. So he feels responsible for her death even if he didn't pull the trigger, which is why "I didn't kill her" is a lie. It also makes sense that he confessed and then withdrew his confession on further thought, and why he just kind of let people attack him for a while, because he felt guilty and responsible without being a murderer. His subjective truth is that he killed her, even if it isn't the absolute truth.

Anyway, I love that her ability isn't infallible, the show would be way less interesting otherwise. I prefer that she doesn't know the absolute truth, only the subjective one. I wonder if she might end by shutting down her business because she comes to the conclusion that her services are flawed. But then again, I think she's doing far more good than harm. Maybe she just needs to be a bit more careful.

She had pretty much stopped paying attention to the match, too concerned with the perfect arch of Doha’s nose and the smooth skin of his cheeks.

I don't think that Mok Sol Hee, in terms of characterisation, needs some grand logical reason for trusting Kim Do Ha. Sometimes people don't work on logic, but simply on feelings.

last week's my lovely liar episodes were like being softly kissed on the forehead and this week's episodes were like getting stabbed in the back over and over again and then hoping that the "let's make out as a cover" trope was gonna happen ?

I was just watching my lovely liar, and as soon as the attention was on ceo and put in the sus lighting, I fell for it. What if the CEO likes Do Ha in a more than a friend way, so he got rid of his annoying gf to have less competition AND monotize on his talent. It would also explain why the wife might be having an affair, cause she's not satisfied. OR I just watch to many BL dramas at this point.

But what an interesting inclusive plot twist that would be!

do-ha offering to be sol-hee's first in everything. when she mentions she has never believed in anyone the way he does? and that she's envious of him for that?

"I'll be your first, then." he says without a moment's hesitation.

when she talks about how her ability made it impossible to make friends, and that's why she doesn't have any close friends that she could rant to?

"You have me, you know." he says again, and it's just so sweet.

i love these scenes; it reminds us of the lonely life sol-hee has led so far, which makes do-ha's promises of being there for her from this point onwards all the more heartwarming (and a tad bit poignant, when one thinks about how lonely sol-hee must have been for all these years).
