RYAN GOLDSMITH/GOLDEN RYAN - Tiger and Bunny: The Rising & Tiger and Bunny 2

PROPAGANDA:

He is the funniest character in the show aside from the mc Kotetsu. He's very flashy and melodramatic. He's introduced as a red herring villain (he's actually a cool guy when you get past his obnoxious attitude.) He has a pet iguana named Molly who he talks to in multiple emotional scenes. In the dub for T&B2 he calls himself a feminist and it's a really funny scene, but also shows quite a bit of character growth in his willingness to be considerate of others. His catchphrase is, "Kiss my boots," despite the fact that he only uses his hero powers when he's on his hands and knees.

When it comes to I've had the weirdest day, it's hard to top going to lunch with the Grim Reaper and getting handed an iguana. Granted, this wasn't Kevin's first time eating lunch with the old coot, and Foop was still begging for the details. Yeah, Kevin didn't even know where to start with that one. "He's just a long-time friend of my mom's" didn't seem to be cutting it.

Personally, Kevin didn't see what the big deal was. The Grim Reaper had a creepy aesthetic to him - you know, like Marvin and Molly - but all in all, he was just some guy. He picked up odd jobs all over Peachfield to pay off his student loans. Hearing Foop gush over him as Kevin picked at his soup (and his uncle devoured a sandwich) kind of gave him the creeps, like listening to a Kindergartener gush about the local crossing guard.

Is it really THAT weird?

Denise Quinna Crocker was a vampire lover. She volunteered often at the Peachfield nursing home and hung around the elderly. The Grim Reaper also volunteered a lot at the Peachfield nursing home, although probably for a different reason. They shared a love for all things dark, bleak, and undead. And, well… he walked around in a big brown cloak and preferred writing with a quill. Denise Crocker was going to notice that. She'd always been an extraverted woman, and her nosiness knew no bounds. Did you know the Grim Reaper has a birthday? Apparently that's a thing.

"Super lame," Foop scoffed when Kevin tried explaining this over their table at the Cake 'N Bacon. The kid took a massive bite of clam chowder, then went back to coloring spikes and pitfall traps down every path of his kiddie menu maze. "Really, Kevin… I thought you were a cool Crocker."

"Death is overhyped anyway," Kevin muttered back. He'd finished his own soup, apart from some final chunks of celery and clams. He gripped his spoon like a bungee cord and stabbed it in the bowl. You know, the explanation of how he'd come to know the Grim Reaper may have been short, but lingering in the poorly lit diner with his uncle and a little kid - not to mention a hissing iguana - felt even more distracting.

Were people whispering about them? Kevin kept glancing around, watching Vicky weave back and forth between the tables with her pitcher. Was the iguana invisible or something? No one else had reacted to it yet. Once, when Vicky turned around with her scarlet ponytail bouncing, her eyes locked on Kevin's. She scrunched her nose at him, brows drawing low. Somehow, that look sort of curdled his skin. Kevin dropped his gaze to his empty soup bowl, his heart pounding like a crushed car on a conveyor belt. His phone hung like a brick in his hand. Great. Its cold, blank screen just surfaced the reminder that

Can we go yet?

The Cake 'N Bacon's clam chowder did taste delicious. It lifted Kevin's spirits a bit from the slump they'd plunged into after he was denied a visit to the Buxaplenty place, but it definitely didn't fill his stomach. He made a mental note to order a sandwich alongside the soup if he ended up eating here again, but he was more than ready to leave once their bill was paid. His skin itched like mad. He kind of wanted to wash his hands and splash his face just to shake off some of the general weirdness of the day, but he'd already used the bathroom once since they got here and he was pretty sure the waitresses would stare if he squeezed past them to go again.

At last, Uncle Denzel stood and shooed Foop off the other end of their booth. He said he had to swing by the Dimmsdale pet store to get iguana food and that he'd need to use the bathroom too before he left, so Kevin offered to walk home by himself. "I want to see more of Dimmsdale," he told his uncle, staring up with the widest blue eyes he could manage, and his uncle bought the lie.

In truth? Anything, even walking around the California outdoors on a hot day like this one, had to be better than another reckless drive in the back of the Unsuspecting Van.

"I'll go with you," Foop chirped, grabbing his crayons and menu from the table. Once they were in his hands, he vaporized both in a small puff of smoke. Kevin blinked tiredly at him, but didn't dare voice a complaint.

"Sure, let's go with that. I've never really talked with an anti-fairy before, except when you showed up on the doorstep this morning. This could be a great learning experience for me. I mean, I am supposed to be studying abroad for a semester. Maybe I can write a paper on anti-fairies for extra credit."

"You cannot!" came Uncle Denzel's cheerful voice. He rustled Kevin's hair with his big hand before scooting past him to the bathroom. "Oh! Kevin, take that sorry excuse for a lap dragon back home with you when you go. I've got errands to run and a tiny bladder to hold me over. You'll probably beat me there!"

Uhh…

So this was an interesting predicament. Kevin eyed the iguana, who'd shoved its face in Foop's soup bowl and started munching on the last traces of clams. That so-called "sorry excuse for a lap dragon" was still an oversized, shimmery green iguana with a crest like a rooster's and a big throat pouch now dripping with specks of soup. Its long toes ended in creepy, curled talons. Its yellow eyes rolled in its head.

Kevin glanced down at Foop, who stood stiffly beside him in his childish human disguise. He could almost pass as a normal kid, you know… if it weren't for the mustache, goatee, and wide lavender eyes. Those eyes blinked nervously up at Kevin. Apparently, Foop considered touching reptiles to be outside his job description as "Uncle Denzel's best friend" and Kevin really didn't blame him. Even if it sucked.

Ryan has to go out of town and begs Karina to take care of his iguana bc you’re my partner you have to do it pleaseeeee. and she’s like ugh fine. it’s a lizard how hard could it be. and then Ryan leaves her 5 pages worth of notes on Molly’s daily schedule that he insists needs to be followed to the letter. her custom built tank takes up half of Karina’s room. Karina is like there’s no way a lizard needs THIS much care, right? and then a 4 hour long online search later teaches her that yes, lizards do in fact take that much care.

But she does take really good care of Molly and even gets her a new perch. She and Ryan spend 20 minutes arguing over the placement for it.

Once I wrote a fic about Ryan giving a woman he's sleeping with salmonella and Nathan laughs at him until she cries. Not even an STD or something....truly he is the only number one

Now imagine it in your mind bc it's still there in my Google docs, as intended. That's where I keep all proof of Ryan failing in increasingly convoluted ways

when we learned i needed a service dog, my dad pressured me hard to train the family dog, molly moofers. papaya. dad. please understand. we call molly "molly moofers" for a reason. she is so, so cut out for being a family pet and so Not Cut Out for service dog work. when she sees another human or dog, she gets so excited that she practically starts levitating. she has the prey drive of 4 dogs. (lucie worked with me at the reptile rescue and did great ignoring free-roaming iguanas and tortoises). like now my dad understands why i had to get lucie but it took him like. years of seeing how lucie works and how molly just wouldn't do well at it. when strangers try to pet lucie, she'll neatly slide out from under their hand, side-eye them, and come sit on my feet while i ask them not to touch her. molly will start wagging when she sees somebody and not be able to hold herself back from going to say hi. she's far too friendly and not very handler-focused.

The Gift (Ryan & Karina)

After taking his pet iguana, Molly, to the vet, Ryan was now on his way home.

"Good thing they had that medicine," he told Molly. "Next time, read the expiration date on the iguana flakes before serving to your pet."

Molly was just silent, but Ryan knew she agreed with him.

Ryan was taking Molly back to his car when he spotted someone he knows... It was his partner, Karina. Ryan could see that she was looking for something intently. Curious, he called her.

"Yo, Karina!"

Karina was a little surprised to see her partner calling out to her.

"Ryan?" she asked, going over to him. "What are you doing here?"

"I just Molly to the vet. I accidentally gave her expired pet food. And what about yourself?"

"Shopping. My dad's birthday is coming up and I'm trying to find a really great gift for him. I know he'll really need it this year."

"Why's that?"

"My grandma, his mother. She always comes on my dad's birthday and for the holidays. But because of our ordeal with those twins last year, she couldn't for Christmas. And she can't come for Dad's birthday this year because she's recovering from hip surgery."

"Sorry, it must be a bummer."

"Maybe a little. I actually like it when Grandma comes to visit. She's got class."

"Are you and your grandma close?"

Karina nods her head. "When I first got my powers, my parents wanted to send me away someplace until they could figure out what to do with me. But my grandmother, who was visiting at the time, convinced them not to. I owe her much."

"Heh. Sounds like she's one tough granny."

"Yeah. When the NEXT first appeared, Grandma was one of the few people who stood up for them. So she's close to all of us."

"I see. You must be very lucky to have someone like that in your family. I don't really anyone like that."

"I don't think you've ever talked about your family. What are they like?"

"Not much to say. My folks own a used bookstore by in my hometown and they always had me go to church every Sunday. I never had much excitement growing up. Fortunately for me, I got my powers and decided to become a local hero. Even did some modeling on the side. But I guess I wanted a little more. That's how Mark Schneider discovered me and had me come to Sternbild where I became a hero here."

"It was a surprise when you came instead of Kotesu."

"It was, wasn't it. But, I knew the old raccoon truly belongs with Junior. I could stand between them. But, now I'm back and I'm your partner now."

Regrettably, thought Karina. "I wonder what kind of people are your parents. Have you spoken with them lately."

"I... don't really speak to them much."

"You don't?"

"When I got my powers, they just sort of became distant from me. I mean, they didn't hate me or kick me out or anything. More like, they just started a avoiding me. To think, one day, they're doting on you, then you get an awesome upgrade and now it's like you're a ghost to them."

"That sounds tough."

"Aw, I'm getting over it... Though, I wish I could talk to them more. My last call to them was so long ago. It was after we fought those twins. I haven't seen my mother so worried about me in a long time. They said they wish they could help, but what do parents say to their son after he fought a couple of super powered psychos?"

"My parents had the same problem. They already thought that me being a hero was dangerous enough, but I think that they think those twins were the last straw."

"What did they say?"

"So far, nothing. I think they're still trying to process this. So for now, we're just trying to go about our day peacefully."

Ryan wasn't sure what to say. Where was that smarts that helped him give Karina good advice that time? He decides to just wing it.

"Maybe we should both try talking to our families more," he said.

"You think that'll work?" asked Karina.

"Well, we can try. We should let them know that we're all right. We can't promise that we won't be taking on anymore dangers in the future, but we can assure them that we'll find some way to stay in their live."

Karina just smiles and says, "You know who you remind me of now?"

"I think I have a pretty good idea," Ryan answered, also smiling.

"We'll talk to them more when we get the chance. We'll let them know things will be okay."

The two of them now know that they care about their families and it would make them stronger.

"How about that shop?" said Ryan, pointing to a nearby store. "It looks like they're having a sale on silver watches. I know your old man probably uses his phone to check the time, but I'm sure it'll look great on him."

"You might be right," said Karina. "Maybe we'll find something for your parents, too."

"We'll see."

And so, Karina and Ryan go to the store. After getting what they came for, they went their separate ways for the day.

2 Days Left!

March 5 - No Name Harbor and Ft Lauderdale. Yesterday Molly D had a stopover in No Name Harbor. This harbor is within the Bill Baggs Cape Florida State Park which is located in Key Biscayne.

In addition to a beautiful harbor, this state park has a beach, walking and biking trails, picnic areas, fishing spots and the Cape Florida Lighthouse. The harbor is small but it can hold a couple dozen boats (fewer if there is a big ass 60’ catamaran with a 25’ beam taking up real estate!).

There is a nice walking trail along the waterfront. This trail leads to the lighthouse. We walked the trail a short distance yesterday. The deal about taking a walk was that I’d walk until I saw an iguana and then we would turn around. We didn’t get too far.

The Cleat, a bar along the waterfront has inviting areas in which to enjoy a beverage.

Today Molly D sailed into Ft Lauderdale. The trip from No Name was slightly choppy but nothing to be concerned about. Port Everglades is the entry point into Ft Lauderdale from the ocean. Port Everglades is a busy port with shipping, cruise ships, repair facilities for mega yachts, tour boats and pleasure craft all using the same piece of water. The boat traffic can be unnerving at times, but we encountered a low traffic day. Weekend traffic is the worst!

David and I finally got to exercise our walking muscles today. We had one brief walk since leaving Key West on Saturday so we couldn’t wait to stretch our legs! The walk to Ft Lauderdale Beach from the marina is a bit more than a mile. Saw a dinosaur along the way.

This is spring break week and the crowds at one end of the beach and on the sidewalks left no doubt about it being spring break week.

While the northern end of the beach was crowded, the southern end was less so.

Hard to believe that this is a view of the same beach.

David and I had an early supper at Coconuts. The food is good but not outstanding. The view of the ICW is priceless.

Tomorrow Molly D will leave Ft Lauderdale and head north to our next stop at Lake Worth. The wind will be up tomorrow. It will be from the south and will be from our stern. There is a chance for thunderstorms and gusty winds. This winter has been full of forecasts that have been inaccurate. We need to know about the experts’ weather predictions in order to be prepared for any adverse conditions. That being said, we listen, we prepare, and we know that the weather is going to do what it wants to do in spite of forecasts.

I like pet names that are also people names. Like Rowan and Molly and Sam. But not all the people names can be pet names. I’d love to meet a dog named Christopher. Or a horse named Melissa. Or an iguana named Ariaunna.

Rowan was almost named Henry. He already has the attitude and appetite in common with Henry Tudor, and that’s already too much.

But I guess it’s like Meeple Station where you can have ol’ Faucet and Eyeball always getting into trlje.

And I like countiries that double as people names. Chad, Jordan, Georgia, China, etc. etc. etc.

Do I worry about the world? I do. I don’t have much reach, but i see so many good things in the world on a small scale. What can we do to genuinely help each person. It’s like atoms holding together. Atoms are constantly moving and bonding. It’s not in exchange. It’s naturally part of functioning together, constaknhry being makntakned. Constantly. Ring maintained. Being.

People are born wjtb all different types of brains. Even people are different types of brains, because one is one’s brain. Abnormal activity in the pfc or a small amygdala or a tumor can set a person up for commission of illegal/immoral acts because of something biological happening inside them that they did not provoke. Even if it’s drug-related, did they have resources available and accessible before the crime.

I wonder what it would be like if we could scan a brain and reliably predict neuropsychological outcomes. Ideally, they’d set the person up with the supports and services they need with people who can provide them. I know that it always comes down to cost, but things always seem to shake out in favor of those who have the most already.

Like even put every person on an ideal schedule that worked for each of them. Infinitesimal odds maybe, but think what it wld feel like to have everyone on their best schedule every day.
