Food Pantry Volunteering

The Faith Food Pantry

While I do volunteer on behalf of Baluva, there are some things I do on my own. This is one of them. I volunteered for my church’s Missions Committee last year and joined their efforts to start a food pantry in our town of Temple, New Hampshire.

In one year, the food pantry outgrew the small room in the church’s parish house and moved to a garage where food pantry shoppers can peruse food aisles with shopping carts.

We recently were covered by the Monadnock Ledger to mark the pantry’s one-year anniversary.

I’m incredibly proud of the efforts the Missions Committee makes and the “Fill the Truck” campaign by Temple’s volunteer fire department was so generous and touching.

I know how distressing it is to struggle to make ends meet. Places like the Faith Food Pantry can absolutely help to alleviate this burden. Please don’t hesitate to reach out.

"The 488 acres of the Madame Sherri Forest was generously donated for conservation to the Society for the Preservation of New Hampshire Forests by Anne Stokes. The forest is named for the eccentric Madame Antoinette Sherri. Madame Sherri, who had worked as a costume designer for the Zigfield Follies in the 1920s, had built her country "Castle" in the woods of Chesterfield. She became famous (or infamous) for the parties she threw for visitors from the city and was said to have driven about the town during the summer wearing a fur coat and nothing else. Madame Sherri died in 1965 at the age of 84 but for many years prior the castle had fallen to neglect and vandalism. On October 18, 1962 it was destroyed by fire. The foundation, chimneys and a grand stone staircase from the once magnificent house can be seen adjacent to the Madame Sherri Forest ... "
