EEN VROUW ALS EVA (1979) dir. Nouchka van Brakel While on holiday in France, housewife Eve meets young feminist and commune-dweller Liliane while on vacation in the south of France. At first, she is simply entertained and fascinated by Liliane's free-wheeling, back-to-nature existence but soon discovers that there are both sexual and romantic components to her attraction. Once the decision is made to divorce her husband, Eve spends some time with Liliane before going back home to fight over custody of her two children. (link in title)

The Assault (1986). A Dutch doctor, haunted by grueling childhood memories of World War II, struggles to find peace as he spends his life looking for answers about the tragic night that shaped him.
A pretty effective WWII thriller with a unique perspective. The performances in this film - along with the compelling mystery at the centre of it - are the real highlights here as the film does often feel let down by some clunky pacing and some mundane directorial choices. It's a bit of a bummer, because there does feel like there could be a masterpiece in here somewhere, but the film never quite figures itself out. 7/10.

there is, apparently, a 1982 miniseries entitled word war III starring rock hudson as us president and david soul as an army colonel, and then also dutch actor JEROEN KRABBÉ as a SOVIET AGENT and a) this sounded so fake to me for about five minutes that i had to wonder. is this real??? am i falling for a goncharov???, b) this collection of actors somehow makes sense at the same time as feeling utterly impossible to me, and finally c) a dutch actor??? as soviet agent, aka a russian??? i have no idea what sort of accent krabbé threw at this role, but i'm imagining another starsky & hutch body worth guarding monique van de ven disaster, and somehow david soul is the connective thread here. david soul what's up man. why do you carry around a curse that makes film and television productions hire dutch actors to play russians, and how do i help you lift it
