Thanksgiving

What am I thankful for? Pretty much everything. My life fell apart in the last few weeks. Between job issues, legal issues, financial issues, and personal issues, being left for another woman was almost too much to deal with. What a painful and humiliating experience. But it always happens all at once, doesn't it? I've finally come to the realization that he did me a favor. I'm free to move on with my life. Unlike him, I will not jump into a new relationship before I've finished the old one. I will spend the next 12 months of my life as a single woman. Not celibate, per se, but single. It's time for me to figure out why I allow myself to be treated poorly by men to do not respect me on a human level. I've finally had enough. I'm thankful for the friends who stood by my side during these recent events. I am thankful for the fact that the individuals who took "the other side" were clear enough with their intentions that I know better than to trust them with anything, ever again. I am thankful that I am still young enough to use this whole scenario as a learning experience, and that I can take this hurt and turn it into something that makes me a better person in the long run. I've been used and abused by men since the day that I was born. But this time, I woke up. I don't want that anymore. For the rest of my life, I will do what it takes to become the person that I was always meant to be. Eventually, the right man will come along. Hopefully, by then, I will respect myself enough to let him in. And falling in love won't hurt anymore. Perhaps I'll be ready next time, and it will feel natural. In the meantime, I just need to focus on myself.
