It was always annoying to be dragged into different fights. Well... maybe not always. Sometimes it could be fun.

This was not necessarily one of the 'fun' times.

They were running some errands, mostly preparing to head back to their own area when they heard someone was trying to fight Hati. Small curses come out of them when they see what has been going down in the alley.

Annoying, annoying,annoying. This was such a pain to deal with.

Saima found themself throwing people out of the way, frustrated that this had started without them even wanting it to.

"If I had had a choice in the matter, I probably would have. Guess some of these people were way too eager when they sensed you around. Can't exactly call them friends. " They spoke coolly before kicking away few of the others.

"Don't exactly know how many. Doesn't seem like a lot.. I'll have to stick around and see. Figured you'd want to have room to break for it.. or at least gather your bearings."

Danger

It was dark but there were always night owls roaming the streets, humans wondering, which was good and bad. Strangling out of a patch of trees Claudia was making her way back into town, in the opposite direction of where she had been, of where they were. That was when she heard his unfamiliar voice. Weakened she hadn’t sensed his presence but, when she looked up, there was in fact a man before her. To an outsider her wounds looked back, cuts along her arms and legs, blood there and on her face. In fact they definitely didn’t feel good but they could have been worse and she could already feel them trying to heal. All she needed was to feed and rest…At least that’s what she told herself.

Danger

She had glanced from him to her wounds, as she heard his question, then back at him as she addressed her situation. Her first priority had been to distance herself from her attackers then recover. Perhaps this man could help her but in the past strangers did more damage than help. She wasn’t sure if she wanted to trust him..

“I fell…” She found herself saying as she held her arm. “I was playing and it got dark so I couldn’t see and fell. I need to go home.”

She has her hand around his throat, nails sharp as claws digging in, drawing blood and he is trying not to swear, to keep himself together, but he can’t breathe. 

She’s sniffing at him, his face, teeth bared clearly oblivious to his struggling, his gasping for air. 

“You smell like my brother.” 

“I’m sorry I don’t speak it yet. Hati hasn’t taught me except a few curse words..” he manages to cough out, but something else has caught her eye. 

“You bear the marks of Loki and Hati”

“Look maybe this is a bad idea, but who the hell are you? Because if you’re one of Hati’s supernatural.....partners..I am so sorry. I didn’t mean to interrupt anything, I was just grabbing my jacket...I have a key and I should have knocked first but I didn’t know.”

The redhead looks bored at his explanation, her arms crossed across her chest.

“Who are you?” It’s a snarl, her accent thick,hard to place, but he’s a doctor who has had to deal with more than that. 

“Alex...Alexander McCormack. Hati’s....my...” He hesitates slightly. “Friend...”

“Why hesitate, Alexander?” 

“Because I’m not used to being choked when I get my jacket, who are you?” 

She flares her nostrils, watching him from a distance now, he’s more than a little calm which means he’s probably telling the truth, plus she would recognize Loki’s mark anywhere and he didn’t give that out lightly. 

“Skoll.” 

There’s a flash of different emotions across his face, first off being confused. 

“Skoll the sunchaser, the wolf who mocks.” He looks resigned to his fate. 

At this she perks up moving closer, her entire position shifting, becoming like an excited puppy. 

“You know?”

“Of course, but...the script says...brothers?”

There is a pout from the redhead as she looks down, hair falling in her face. 

“Still brothers though when...I fell I decided a new form..one people would not recognize would be best. I came looking for my brother. I found him.” 

The doctor makes a no duh face. 

“Just...maybe you better not tell Hati about all of this.” 

“I can not promise this Alexander, but I will let him know you came to get your things.” 

That made him a little uneasy but what else was he to do?

Small man. Buddy of Stone’s. Maybe more than that, the way they bicker. Smells like incense and leather. White handkerchief over mouth and jaw. The way he talks, lisping and blurred, the mouth’s damaged. Got to be.

Skin’s not right. Livid under the freckles. Bruised around the eyes. Got that in common with Stone, too.

Drinks whiskey. Neat. Sips it slowly.

Máni felt stiff and sore all over, and it was not a familiar sensation. When Hati spoke up, the moon god shifted, ankle-shackle clanking as he edged a bit closer. 

“As much as I wish this was some fucked up sex thing, I don’t think it is... at least I don’t remember anything after... I was running last night, or tonight, or... what time is it?” he asked, and as much as it may have been disconcerting that the god of time didn’t know what time it was, the moon god did seem more groggy and out of it than anything. It was likely he’d been drugged and it was still wearing off, or at least still in his system.

Talking about his past always makes him anxious. His father makes him anxious, despite being dead and buried for so long. 

His fingers are running over the back of his neck, across his hair line, rubbing across bumps of spine, before falling to fidget with the stone around his neck. 

“My father was in the war. He was a soldier through and through, pushed and molded into this by the breakthroughs of Captain America and his own father. He wanted me to be a soldier too. I think he forgot what it was like to be someone without military training, or maybe he thought that I was just some punk-ass little boy who needed to toughen up.” 

He licked his lips, shifting uncomfortably on his feet. 

“I don’t remember how old I was but….young…He hit me, right across the face. I had accidentally spilled some juice.” He can feel his breath catch at the memory, the hot stinging pain, and resists the urge in the here and now to touch the spot.

“I obviously started to cry, and he told me to ‘shut the fuck up’ and ‘clean up my goddamn mess’ and ‘don’t you dare wake your mother’.” 

A pause, his breath ragged. “So I did. I…cleaned it up and then because I was such a little shit” The words sound so foreign to him, coming from his mouth, but it sounds just like his father. “that he made me clean the bathroom. All of it, top to bottom.” 

There’s a shake of his head and he’s looking down. 

“I had to have been in there for hours, but it wasn’t clean enough. The only thing I could smell was bleach, but I still scrubbed away…I’m pretty sure that I was bleeding before I was done.” 

There’s a deep sigh, fingers now fidgeting with the cuffs of his sleeves. 

“he got deployed for a few years soon after that, but that wasn’t the only time he hit me. Punishments got more severe when he came back, said that if I wasn’t going to go to military school then he would school me right there. If things weren’t to his standards he’d….he’d trash the whole place, make me start again. Make me do push-ups until I collapsed.”

“One time I had finished all my chores and was just reading in bed, it wasn’t even lights out, he took the book, a book that I had gotten as a gift, and ripped it to shreds in front of my face. Told me to clean it up and if he caught me reading this “garbage” again, that worse would happen. He did do worse. “

He’s silent for a long moment, fingers fidgeting with anything the can touch. 

“He did worse when he came home from fighting overseas. He’d gotten shot trying to save some of his troop and was in constant pain. He started drinking heavily….” 

He clears his throat, running his hands along his arms, holding himself for just a moment. 

“I don’t think anything more needs to be said.”
