Many veterans' late noughts ended up locating them in their familiar spaces. Kaipa, for instance, continued their progressive rock explorations. True, they are one of the bands that are moving on despite having a lot of personnel changes, yet they remain the same. Mind you, I'm not suggesting they are in a stasis, because their sounds develop, but you can hear their debut and their LP from the late nought, while you nod saying they're the works of the same band. Of course, the latter is the Theseus' paradox at this point, because there's only one member of the original lineup still left. Moreover, the technology made them sound even more precise now, they did move a bit away from their early jazz style and they turned quite mathematical.

Montresor - Autopoiesis - chamber math-rock from Melbourne

Autopoiesis - the capacity of a system to reproduce itself Montresor's first album in 9 years was a long time in the making, with many compositions dating back to 2018's February Album Writing Month challenge. Autopoiesis is an extended labour of love by guitarist and composer Cameron Pikó, paying tribute to a lesser-known subgenre of music with a fascinating history, the short-lived Rock in Opposition (RIO) movement of the late 70s. Influenced by RIO bands such as Henry Cow and Univers Zero, the music fuses technical instrumental progressive rock with classical instrumentation: clarinet, bass clarinet, bassoon, piano, harpsichord and marimba alongside guitars, bass and drums. Devin Townsend ‘Devolution Series’ albumsorozata augusztus 4-én egy különleges koncertkiadvánnyal bővül, amelyet még a világjárvány kitörése előtt rögzítettek.

Az Inside Out Music folytatja Devin Townsend különleges felvételeit bemutató, ‘Devolution Series’ című sorozatát. Az akusztikus ’Live In Leeds’ és az interneten közvetített koncerteket rejtő ’Galactic Quarantine’ után augusztus 4-én érkezik a ’Devolution Series #3 – Empath Live In America’, amelynek az ’Empath’ album a főszereplője. Devin így mesélt erről: „Helló mindenkinek! Folytatódik a Devolution-széria, amely kiváló lehetőség, hogy a rendes kiadványok mellett érdekességeket adjak ki, az ’Empath Live In America’ lesz a harmadik a sorban. Ez egy eléggé furcsa turné volt, mert sajnálatos módon a kirobbanó világjárvány miatt félbe kellett szakítani. A műsort az Order Of Magnitude redukált felállásával készítettük, nem volt már velünk a kórus és néhány zenekari tag sem, de akkor is különleges estét akartunk! Nem voltak bejátszások, takkjelünk sem, a műsor se volt lefixálva, így minden este egyedi, más és más volt. A közönségből bekiabálták a kívánságokat, mi pedig azokat játszottuk. Rendhagyó előadás volt, és nagyon örülök, hogy dokumentálhattam. A következő stúdióalbumomig remélem, hogy jó lesz ez a ritkaság egy különleges, bár szerencsétlen sorsú turnéról.”

A lemezen Devin Townsend mellett a következő zenészeket hallhatjuk: Mike Keneally (gitár), Nathan Navarro (basszusgitár), Diego Tejeida (billentyűs hangszerek), Morgan Ågren (dob) és Ché Aimee Dorval (gitár, ének). CD-n és vinylen már hazai forgalmazásban is megrendelhető az anyag. Kapcsolódó hír, hogy Devin Townsend június 16-tól Amerikában turnézik a Dream Theater és az Animals As Leaders társaságában. A Dreamsonic névre keresztelt koncertkörút július végéig járja Észak-Amerika nagyvárosait.

The long-awaited collaboration between JG Thirlwell & Simon Steensland will be released by Ipecac Records on April 24 2020. Entitled Oscillospira the album will be available on CD, double LP and digitally.  JG Thirlwell and Simon Steensland’s collaboration first began in Stockholm in 2017 when they met while Thirlwell was conducting his commission for the Great Learning Orchestra. The extraordinary drummer Morgan Ågren (Mats/Morgan band, Frank Zappa, Devin Townsend etc) plays on all the tracks. Brooklyn based composer/producer/performer JG Thirlwell (Foetus, Manorexia, Xordox) - who has collaborated with the likes of Zola Jesus, Melvins, Swans, Kronos Quartet and many others, and is the composer for the highly acclaimed animated TV series ‘Archer’ and 'Venture Bros’ - and Swedish multi-instrumentalist and theatre music composer Simon Steensland collaborate on a new album Oscillospira. Different yet complementary, both creators make idiosyncratic music that can be characterised by dramatic intensity, shadowy suspense, darkness and light, sometimes breathtaking and always evocative cinematics. Oscillospira is an odyssey of dark chamber prog with a cinematic bent, largely instrumental album with eerie choral parts. The extraordinary drummer Morgan Ågren (Mats/Morgan band, Zappa, Devin Townsend etc) plays on all the tracks, bringing them to life in an explosive manner.
