Rararyn Radarys encounters stray nix hounds along Balmora's eastern quay. The creatures must've swam up the canal to wander into Balmora's back alleys while pursuing cave rats (mind you Balmoran rats are verily the fattest on all Vvardenfell).

The nerevarine visit solstheim

Behold,

my carefree, bug loving, somewhat naive Nerevarine! This is Vanrys Telvayn, born and raised in the Imperial City in Cyrodiil. Being an avid fan of any and all animals and creatures, Vanrys was arrested on account of endangering civilians after setting free several caged animals (including a lion) that were for sale in the Market District. Vanrys simply didn't want to see them suffering, but nonetheless he was convicted and shipped off to Morrowind-- a land he had never stepped foot in before. Despite it being intended as a punishment for his crime, Vanrys actually grew to love the province, and the various wildlife that made its home there. Vanrys eventually befriended a not-so-wild guar that he named Garrius. Although she is significantly small for her species, Garrius is a hearty little pack-guar who carries Vanrys's findings happily. They wear matching scarves!
