meet & greet - part 1

2845: EXILE

synopsis: It’s the year 2845. A year where Earth is in shambles and space is the new frontier. You are sent along with other cadets to a distress call about some type of unknown creature. You are new as an engineer on the ship Shiganshina and you have to work for your boss and leader of your group Levi Ackerman. But remember, in space no one can hear you scream.

a/n: this is my first au series. my sis is obssessed w the alien franchise and she showed me alien isolation and it was so good she watched it like all the time and she saw markipliers game through so im excited to show yall my idea, hope yall like it. hope u like some sexy space levi cuz i know i do.

You remembered what your father taught you - how to create with your hands. How in your mind you felt lost and insignificant in this vast existence called space. But he explained to you that you could be so much more. With your help people can depend on you and believe in you and that makes you important. That makes hard work payed off when you are there for someone.

“Hey rookie, make sure to get those screws in. We don’t want this compartment tearing apart.” Hannes, your co-worker, ordered you.

You wiped the grease from your forehead. Sweat was dripping down your face. “How many times do I gotta tell you this, Hannes, just because I’m new to this job doesn’t mean I don’t know how to seal a door.” You banged the object and rolled your eyes and the insensitive words of that man. He thought he owned the business. “Besides, once I get enough cash, I can buy my own ship and head on out of here like a-”

“-person’s hair caught on fire,” Hannes chuckled. “We know this. You tell us every time.”

You pushed yourself up to get yourself a cup of coffee. “It’s true though, I’m gonna do.” You bit your gloves off as you scratched the back of your head. “Somehow.” It was difficult finding jobs for engineers. Every thing was growing and getting more modern as the days went by. Now robots took care of things and did what you could do but 10 times faster, better, and more work. Plus, you had limited knowledge, you needed to be trained more but there was only so much your old man taught you. “I already know how I’m going to decorate it and the speed.” You whistled. “That baby is going to go faster than a meteorite.” There were stars in your eyes. It was all you ever dreamed of, ever since you were a little girl. It was all you wanted to do. Build things and be on your own. Making your own rules and being your own person.

You picked up your wrench and went under the compartment to take a look at its legs.

“Um, Y/N. There’s someone here to see you.” Hannes said.

You rolled out from under to see your best friend who is like your little brother, Eren, with his two pals, Mikasa and Armin. “No way! Hey guys!” You ran to them for a hug. “I haven’t seen you guys in like 2 years!”

Eren smiled wide as he brought you aside. “Yeah, its been a while.”

“Why are you getting so tall squirt?” You ruffled his chocolate brown hair. You and Eren knew each other as little kids. His father was a doctor and was acquainted with your father. From time to time they worked together.

“Must be all that food we eat at the academy!” Armin said with a cheerful spirit.

That’s when you took one look at their attire and saw all of them wearing their space academy suits and that’s when you knew Eren came here to change your mind.

You shook your head as you walked away to look for parts.

“Y/N! Where are you going? Y/N!” Eren called out for you.

“Nice going really subtle.” Mikasa smacked Armin.

“What?” The little sunshine was lost.

Ever since Eren got into the space academy he had been trying to get you enrolled as well. It was his dream and all but not yours. You didn’t want to be stuck in a room with entitled brats that think they know it all when they really didn’t. It wasn’t your calling and you didn’t want to go and nothing, nobody could change your mind.

“Please Y/N, listen up.” Eren helped you pick up the box of parts.

“Why should I? I can’t believe the only reason you would show up and see your friend is to convince her to do something she doesn’t want to do.”

“That’s not true. It’s not like that,” Eren tried to explain.

“So you didn’t come over here to change my mind?”

Eren was silent but then gave in, “Okay, yes. But it’s because we need you!”

“Sure,” you said sarcastically. “Like I’ve never heard that before.”

Mikasa cornered you and slapped her hands on the wall near your face. “Listen to what he has to say.”

“Eren you better come grab your friend before I throw hands on a kid.” You gave a warning look.

You served them coffee as you sat and talked. “What do you need me for?”

“They’ve seen the way you work. They think you’re incredible and one of the best which you are to me and they want you on their team.”

“What makes you think I’m going to say yes?”

“We got in a call, a distress call from one of Warrior’s ships, Marley. One of our own. It’s a real emergency and it sounds like they are in real distress. They’re far away and on our radar it shows the ship is in critical condition. Warrior is sending people out to rescue those from Marley.” Armin reasoned.

“And why do you need me? Can’t Warrior do it themselves? They’ve got the people and they’ve sure got the money.”

They go silent and Mikasa places her hand on Eren’s knee. “The call that we got from one of our own said that something on the ship was dangerous to the crew. We need capable men and women on this job. Warrior has you in their files and they’ve been watching you on how you react to things. They feel you are really fit for this job.”

You shook your head, “no. I gotta get back to reality. I got so much stuff on my mind that I have to do.”

“Wait!” Eren pulled your sleeve. “They’re willing to pay a lot.”

You bit your lip. You couldn’t resist.

As you walked into the classy headquarters you regretted a bit coming here. Deep down you really didn’t know what danger could they have meant.

“Hello sir, here is Y/N L/N. She is very strong and highly capable to complete this mission.” Eren saluted to what seemed to be the boss of Warrior.

“Hello there Y/N. We were expecting you,” the man was tall and had short blonde hair. The bangs were split apart and he wore glasses. He gave his hand for you to shake. “I’m Zeke.”

“Nice to meet you Zeke. This a nice place you got here.”

“Thank you, now without further a do I would like to show you the crew that will be assisting you on this mission.”

“There’s more?” You gulped. You were not that spontaneous at working together with others. You had many ideas and usually that clashed with peoples opinions.

“Yes indeed. You will need the help,” Zeke chuckled. “I’ve seen your work that you do. You’re the one who created that electromagnetic pull to connect and pull together the two trains. I’m very impressed.”

“It’s just, stuff I learned from my pops,” you followed Zeke. Every corner you took amazed you more. Chandelier upon chandelier, buttons leading to new discoveries. You were so curious!

“I’m sure Eren told you about the distress call and the mission in itself?”

“Yeah, he told me a little about it. It sounds real terrifying. I hope the people are okay.”

Zeke smiled, “that’s why we need people like you that care enough to go save them. Now your crew that you’ll be working on is called the special operation squad, created by their captain of their ship, Erwin Smith.” He gave you a pad to look at captain Erwin’s photo. He looked very handsome and charming. His eyebrows thick and a face of seriousness. You glimpsed over his information and handed it back to Zeke.

“Looks tough.”

“Indeed he is, he once landed a plain when it ran out of power. It was just falling down to the surface and he managed to let the legs stick out the right moment that it didn’t even have a scratch.”

“Wow.”

“We have Eld Jinn, Oluo Bozado, Petra Ral, and Gunther Schultz. They graduated at the top of their classes. This will also be their first mission.”

You saw their pictures and couldn’t believe one of them was that age.

“We have Hange Zoe, smarty that one. And second in command, Levi Ackerman. He is amazing under pressure and is very strong. He is one of our best.”

You saw his complexion and he had bags under his eyes. Not what you were expecting, “he looks short.” You popped gum in your mouth.

“He is but very, very, scary. And he is going to teach you and be beside you mostly during the procedure just so you can understand and get a taste.”

“I think I can handle this myself besides why would I want to take orders from someone half my size.” You laughed as walked right into Levi.

He raised his brow, “you were saying.” His voice was deep and gruff and he truly looked like he could kill you.”

“Yes, here is the crew. Special operation squad I want you to meet your newest member Y/N L/N.” Zeke presented them to you.

You waved awkwardly. They all looked like they could eat you alive.

Oluo walked over with his hands in his pockets, “I hope you can keep up you little,” he bit his lip and started choking.

“Karma,” you smirked.

“Don’t listen to that idiot. I’m just glad to have another girl on the team! Yay!” Petra ran and high fived you.

“Hey what about me?” Hange pouted.

“Fine you too.” Petra gave her a high five.

“Sir, if I may have a word. We think we might have found a way to get into the breach. Since the power is down there may be a way we can open the latched door and connect Shigashina to Marley.” Erwin walked Zeke over to the map on the screen.

“Actually that won’t work.” You spoke up.

“Who is she?” Erwin questioned.

“See,” you pulled the blue print of Marley to the crew. “There is only a limited power left on that ship circulating certain items on it and is whats keeping the ship staying up. Light, vents, door, you get the point. If we try to open the gate to connect the two ships all the power left will go to that door. So instead we go over to Marley and get in our suits. Physically walk to Marley and try to open a small vent or door there. It will be safe because we’ll be hooked. I’ve done it many times...Names Y/N L/N.” You shook Erwin’s hand. “And I’m your newest crew member.”

Everyone cooed and awwed at your ability. It was like you said the best comeback. You looked to see Levi not smile but his eyes did the talking. You could tell he was proud of you.

“Excellent work Y/N. I knew you were made for this job. Levi, make sure you teach her more. She is already a great learner.” Zeke said.

Hange pushed you to Levi and you wrapped your arms around his head for support. “I guess you’re my student now. Don’t mess this up.”

You weren’t a fond of this amazing hero Levi.

“Has she heard the call yet?” Erwin asked.

“No i haven’t.”

The call was shaky at first but then a girls voice came on, “Hello Warrior. This is Marley in the midst of completing the Warrior program. Day 34. Every thing was fine at first. But then everything went to Hell.” There was a bang in the background. “I don’t have much time and I don’t know if I’ll be alive but we need assistance here, asap! Something is here, its coming and its killing! We need someone quick! Please!” It cuts off with a roar and then silence.

Your heart is beating fast and you feel faint. You take a seat, “that’s awful.” Were you really ready for this mission? “Why did they go there in the first place?”

“To look for more planets that contain life of course. Isn’t that what its always about.” Zeke explained.

“Our mission crew, is to rescue Marley and bring as many home to safety. We do our best and we make sure we take down whatever that threat may be so it doesn’t come to the population.”

You ship Shiganshina was being loaded with supplies. Gun were being transported and you almost felt your throat go dry. You tried to keep a tough face but you were never in a situation like this.

“You okay?” Levi asked.

He startled you with the suddenness. “Will we be using those?”

Levi saw the fear in your eyes and patted your back, “only if we need to.” He handed you a black space suit. “For you. Put it on, were going to be ready in about 5.”

As you put on the skin tight space suit you began to realize how real this really was. It frightened you and made you want to go back to where it was safe. But you made a promise. Your father taught you to help people and these people needed your help.

Being and engineer you fell in love with Shiganshina. It was an older model ship but it was redone to look modern. It was bigger than any ship you ever seen that it took more than 20 people to pilot this thing. It was so gorgeous to you every aspect of it. “I’m in love.”

“Did you know that this was the first ship of its kind to be made?” Hange Zoe spat out facts. Zeke was right, she was very smart.

“It’s so special,” your fingertips grazed the cool metal of the ship.

Waling into the chilling area you saw the crew playing ping pong and reading. It was announced that the ship took off. You grabbed a coffee and sat next to Eld.

“Man the way you gave it to Erwin!” Oluo joked. “He looked like he pooped himself!” He laughed. Petra came and sat on his lap. “Don’t act like you’re so cool. You always copy Levi.”

Gunther almost died laughing. “She got you there dude.”

“So this is your guys first mission too. Are you scared?”

“Why are you? Then maybe you shouldn’t be on this ship.” Oluo eyed you down.

Petra smacked his head, “stop being a jerk! Y/N is part of us now. I am a little scared but I know I am ready to prove myself to Warrior.”

“At least you had training. I’m just learning as I go.”

“I’ll teach you the best way I can.” Levi suddenly appeared holding his cup of coffee odd. “You just have to be teachable.”

“I am!” You were getting aggravated. You were equal to them and you had to start believing it.

“Psst,” Eld tapped you. “Don’t worry, I’m a little scared too. I’ve got a wife and two kids back at home.” Eld showed you a picture of them in his locket.

You grinned, “they are a beautiful family. I’m sure you’re making them proud. Thanks by the way. I’m glad someone else is scared around here.”

You scooped the rest of your stew out of your cup as the others bursted out laughing while saying stories of their training.

“Remember you fell in the sewer?” Hange chuckled as she picked up the dishes to put away in the sink. “That was pretty gross my man.”

Gunther rolled his eyes, “I got all that crap in my hair for like months. It was not funny and you know it.”

“What about when Eren slipped and did a split when he was talking to that chick?” Levi recalled, sipping his tea in a strange manner.

“He did a split?” You almost choked on a piece of meat. “That behemoth?”

“Ha ha very funny.” Erwin said sarcastically. “I thought she was endgame and that was so humiliating.”

“You still went on a date though.” Oluo said, “I remember she threw that cake on your face.”

You raised your brow and tried to hold in your chuckle. “What? She did that to you? Why?”

“It’s because-” Levi started.

“No let me tell it,” Hange butted in. “Erwin, I don’t think this is gonna work.” She impersonated the lady in a valley girl voice. “Like, you are too much in your job and you will never make time for me. I need a man who will spoil me and who will make me,” they all yelled in unison, “their sexy, little, queen of a thang!”

Oluo banged on the table, cackling loud, tears running down his face. Hange fell on the floor while Erwin was trying to cover his face to hide the blush. You laughed so hard you flipped your bowl. “Oh crap!” You looked and saw a tiny hint of a smile on Levi’s face. It was a different look and you liked it. He looked cute and it made you happy.

“You finished?” He asked.

“Yeah,” you yawned. “I’mma hit the showers.”

You couldn't go to sleep. Tossing and turning you had all these expectations of what this mission entailed. Some were excited while some were terrified of the danger that laid on ship Marley. You didn’t know what to expect.

Sweat dripped down your back and your heart pounded fast. You shot up and breathed deeply.

Going to the kitchen you were looking for milk to drink to help with your insomnia. You were searching the refrigerator.

“What are you doing up?”

You shrieked as you jumped. It was Levi, leaning against the counter. “Oh my God, you scared me!” You clutched your heart.

“Couldn’t sleep?”

You nodded, “is it that obvious?”

He peered down to the carton of milk. “Eld told me what you two talked about.” Levi crossed his arms and you saw his muscles trying to rip out of his hoodie. “Its okay to be scared. If you’re not scared then you’re not human and when you’re doing this type of job you need everything to remind you that you still are. Besides, I’m not going to let anything happen to you.”

You were silent because no one had ever said that to you. But you wondered if he was genuine. “I’ve never left that garage I worked at. Traveling space like this its always something I wanted but I’m just - the unknown is whats terrifying. I’m scared that I’ve wanted this for so long, what if its not what I expected? What if I fail?”

“That’s why you have to try it though, its to see what you feel about something. Because you’ll live your life not knowing and that being a mystery, and that is the worst feeling ever.”

“Yeah,” you scratched the back of your head.

“Give me your hand, I want to show you something?” Levi outstretched his hand to you.

“Where are you taking me?”

“I want to show you something amazing, idiot just take the dang hand.”

You clutched his palm and he made his way to the window of the ship. It was big and wide. It was as if the world was laid out in front of you.

“Wow,” you said amazed. Your eyes widened. The amazing galaxies and space reflected into your eyes. The sun was a little far way and was bright and beautiful. “Its so...perfect.”

“Right?” Levi leaned against the wall. “That’s kinda about the good thing about this job. The view is unbeatable.”

“I’ll say.” You smirked. “To think we are just a tiny part of this bigger picture. Makes you feel insignificant.”

“No, to me it makes me feel lucky. Lucky that I’m alive to witness something this great.”

You grabbed a hold of Levi’s hand, still looking at the space. “Thank you Levi.” Tears fell down your face.

Levi looked shocked and was about to ask but your look turned into something that was horrifying. You covered your mouth as you gasped. “What happened?”

He gazed to where you were pointing and his eyes widened. He ran and shouted and he went to go get the crew.

The ship Marley was there. Out of power, just floating like a lump of rock in the middle of space. It pieces broken and looking ruined. Something was terribly wrong.

a/n: oooh spooky lol i wonder whats gonna happen. phew that was a lot of writing i hope u guys enjoy it bc it means so much to me. but i mean u all can tell that levi is ready to drop everything for y/n, they already having heart eyes!!!

Thanks a lot for sending an ask!! and for the nice words.I am technically safe if that’s anyone’s concern, but Im going through a quite terrible time. Probably gonna put it in the tags because it’s quite hard (at least for me) but it feels strange avoiding to say it. Anyone thanks for helping making me thing about something else. Im probably gonna talk a whole lot, sorry in advance. I started playing duel links when it launched. I remember it was when I was in new year holydays with my mom and her partner in a little place in the mountain we rented for a few days. It may sound silly but that’s one of the new year I remember the best. Just chilling near a fire with nice food and playing dl while it’s all silent. And I think I played it quite a bit at first? I was bad but trying. Soon enough they added Bakura too so like. I was all the more invested. But then i believe my interest in dm started to wear off, and I played less and less. Sometimes to grab an event character, quickly not at all. Got back to it when gx entered but I don’t think I was super there either. Like I stopped when i unlocked Edo and Asuka and that’s about it. I still came back when there was event for new characters and all. And then Saiou was leaked. I remember when it happened, I was at one friend place when I receive this from another friend and let me tell you I spend a good few hours just hitting the sofa i was on with my arm for how happy I was (my happiest stimming is like a hitting movement, and i prefer doing it on surface im sure i wont break. the only 3 time I remember doing it was for my birthday, here, and when we rewatched s2 with my friend). And yeah Saiou kind of made me get back into it real hard. I HAD to complete the whole event from day 1 to the end. Also they soon enough added darklords and fabled and well guess who had to make Levianing canon haha. Darklords were still so fun, playing it on dl really helped me understand how to play it IRL. I still can’t believe I unlocked every single thing about Saiou, all of his levels, all of his skills. I even played some ranked. Since then Ive been mostly playing for new content? This time with the added interest of dialogues between interesting characters, tag duel, and little content like this. I am even more doing it that my friend stopped playing so i kind of provide for the both of us. I started Zexal World, and I’ll probably try getting kotori and then go back to waiting for various event?

And yeah I am so happy to see Zexal world! I really can’t wait to have more content for them all, and also to reach later series and qldfjd rn there isn’t that much characters but I am very hyped for dialogues between all of them. Also also, o’brian is coming it’s nice!! i just hope they fix darklord bug cuz I am not really interested in playing any other deck (maybe I should actually try making a decent Arcana Force one?). Also thinking about what’s to come, I wonder what personnality they’ll give to Sora. Since it seems to stay as close to early canon as possible to avoid spoilers, i guess it’ll be his childish personnality but... I kinda want to see him more as his neutral later self in a non world-ending situation? I want to be sure he’s doing good ;w; Also please put Zone and Aporia I want them to talk even if it’ll be horrible.

Though I don’t think Ill go back to heavily play it until there is a character im really interested in. Maybe Astral on his own though I don’t super like his deck. For sure though, Ill max out Thomas, or Aporia since they should be the first one to come between the character Im really, really excited for. thought I also want to see Sherry for her dialogues with Aki. and Antinomy of course. And fubuki (hopefully not as darkness it’d be more fun). And for Zexal pretty much everyone would be awesome lol. Oh also. I have not hope but. I can’t help to imagine if they added 1) crossover dialogues (but of course none of my fav will be concerned im sure ;w;) 2) an unpossessed Saiou. probably s4. like i know it won’t happen but it’d be so damn nice. Like first of because FINALLY I can play a game without feeling like im entertaining the light and hurting Saiou. Second because saiou s4 is damn cool. Third because i want to see him interact and god imagine s4 saiou talking with Edo? ;w; And uh. uh. they didnt put all the arcana force yknow. okay i know i know, the world and the fool just won’t be good to put in a game like dl but.... and those non-used voicelines..... Anyway, thank you! I hope I wasnt too boring.

2/28/2020 - 2/29/2020

Combined two days because I only wrote ideas the 28th, and sketched the new boi the 29th.

Ideas on Bart’s Friend, newly named Hosea!:

- He’s taller than Bart, but skinny like a pencil. He has big round glasses that make his eyes look bigger than they are. He has long, choppy hair he grew out and likes to take care of.

- ..... through drawing him, especially the last expression, i mentally give him a dorky deep voice that has a slight drawl. He talks slowly, and usually stumbles over his words, giving people the impression that he’s not as smart as he is. HE never raises his voice; it’s permanently stuck in a low, calm, and gentle tone. Imma try to find something close to this as an example, cries.

- i really like my boy, double cries.

- He moved with his mother and father into town after his father lost his job. At this time, Bart is 11, and so is the new kid.

- The town kids were curious about him at first, and crowded him to know more about the city. Quickly, though, his answers bored them, and his affinity for reading rather than playing turned them away from wanting to stick around, and he got lonely quick.

- He found Bart the first day of school, the only kid reading during every break, and he nervously got the guts to approach him. Bart was very cautious at first, suspicious. thinking that the town kids sent him for a prank, but Hosea was incredibly earnest in his interest, and got excited when Bart mentioned a series he liked. Needless to say, Bart was quickly won over.

- That day, they started their friendship by talking about the few non-horror books Bart had read. The next, Bart was ready to show him his whole collection, sure to impress him(!), when he noticed Hosea’s mom. And their prayer before school. And her insistence of him to be a good boy and to not let himself be corrupted by the other kids. Bart overheard all of this from a bush, and was struck, remembering the words of caution Minnie told him before. ‘Some people will run for fear of their religious rules. They don’t perceive their gods as merciful.’

- He didn’t want to lose his first friend. He hid his interest in horror and the arcane, in the process, visiting Minnie’s manor less, and picking up more books Hosea would recommend instead.

- A month in, their friendship is going great, but through misfortune, Bart runs into Hosea as he came back from buying the latest monster novel of his favorite series. He hides it and tries to flee, only to hit his head on the door and drop the book. Hosea picks it up. Instead of running in terror like Bart imagined in his dreams, Hosea beams. He’d always wanted to read this series! But his mom would never let him even look at their covers. He’s stumbling with his words as he describes the few books he’d seen and what he imagined they were about, his face flushing from excitement, and Bart takes it all in. His worries melting, he smiles back and responds to all of his questions, explaining a few of the monsters, and reassuring him the scares were fun and worth finishing every book for. By the time they finish jabbering, Bart offers letting him read the books after school in his house, and Hosea agrees. Their bond got a little deeper that day.

- Two more months roll by and they manage to get Hosea through most of the books; their time holed up in Bart’s room, reading, becoming their favorite hours of the day. Sometimes Hosea has to leave a little earlier, other times he’s a little more quiet, but he never skips their hang out hours. Bart thinks he just needs to be alone sometimes and he doesn’t mind.

- Bart visits Minnie again, though less frequently than before. Their studies are going slower, their sessions mostly consisting of Bart ranting about his new friend instead. She doesn’t mind. She has her hands full with something else.

- Their calm time gets so gradually comfortable, that Bart doesn’t notice how close they’ve gotten until it hits him that he’s reading his Detective Drew book while laying his head on top of the napping boy. He’s eleven, and he’s never had a friend before. He doesn’t know if this is normal. He begins questioning every unconscious action they share, trying to analyze them using what little information he knows from books.

- He eventually told himself that they had simply reached that close level of friendship that the protagonists from his adventure/fantasy series had, and didn’t worry about it anymore, until-

- Hosea had been getting teased at school more for being the teacher’s favorite. One of the town boys had a crush on her, and took out his frustration by picking on Hosea when she wasn’t looking. Bart would always defend him, though, so they never got farther than a shove and some name calling. The town boy switched tactics one afternoon and went for Bart instead. He targeted him as he waited for Hosea to finish helping the teacher. The town boy mocked him on as many insecurities as he could, most of them deflecting until he brought up Hosea. He claimed Hosea only stuck with him because he was the only kid his mom let him hang out with, that he was so tiny and pathetic, poor Hosea was bored all the time. (idk shitty taunts about how Bart never actually scared the boy off, he just thought Bart was so funny looking he couldn’t keep a straight face, and Hosea was more embarrassed by him than anything. That they’re not real friends and Bart has been an annoyance all along.) Bart doesn’t really believe it, but little doubts nudge in and he wants to run. He barely turns around to bolt home when he hears a smack. He turns around and sees Hosea standing over the boy, having rammed him.

- Hosea yells at him to stop talking to Bart like that. He defends Bart, jumbling his words as he tries to talk faster than his normal speed, but his sentiment is clear. Bart is his best frien!. Bart is the coolest, the funnest, and he could certainly kick the boy’s butt onto next Sunday if he wanted to! The boy gets up and tries for intimidation, but Bart moves in to kick his leg. As the boy yowls, he takes Hosea’s hand and they run before any adults come. They stop to catch their breath in an dirty alley. Hosea is concerned if they’ll get in trouble for starting violence, but Bart reassures him. After a pause of contemplation, Bart asks him if what he said was true. Hosea is back to tripping on his words, but he spills all of his feelings. He admires Bart, and honestly thinks of him as the coolest kid he’s ever met. He wants to be more like him; strong, reliable, and honest. Both kids are embarrassed by the praise, Bart’s quickened heart making his mind race with it. This moment wasn’t reminding him of any scenes with the protagonists of his fantasy books. This was more like the scene of Detective Drew where his assistant confesses to him her love.

- He tries to shrug it off by awkwardly accepting the compliments and extra awkwardly praising Hosea too “I.... like that you’re smart?” They walk to his house in silence, but Bart’s mind is a battle. He tells himself this was nothing like that scene; no way did Hosea feel like that towards him! (But what if-) Nonono, no need to be silly. They get to his room and they start their reading, but Bart can’t focus on any words. He keeps rationalizing his friend’s behaviors to himself in a cycle, trying to force himself to accept that he was misinterpreting everything..... but for whatever reason not being able to let it go. He’s at his wits end by the time their hang out time is over, and he walks Hosea out. Hosea asks him if he was ok; he noticed how quiet Bart had been. Bart presses his lips and looks away. He confesses he’s still processing being called cool. Hosea fidgets for a while at the door. When Bart raises his eyes to see why, he notices Hosea’s face is back to blushing. “... B-But you a-are. You’re my hero.” Both boys’ eyes widen, and Hosea can’t even let out a farewell before booking it out. Bart is floored, overcome with new emotions of self-consciousness and awe.

- He’s in a daze during dinner and he can’t sleep that night. It’s only while rereading the last book of his fantasy series that he realizes there WAS a passage where both protagonists greatly praised one another... before going into battle. The protagonists end it with a hug, and Bart becomes aware of the new-found implications their past actions could be given. He realizes he might have been projecting the same expectations to Hosea. And he becomes scared as he starts to recognize what it was he was feeling when Hosea complimented him.

... Bart liked Hosea.

- Lololol went into story mode. shit. Hopefully I can keep going cuz.. Im sticking pretty hard to this story so far. As the song goes, let’s see how far we(I) go ;w;

here’s part 2 for the ehhhh stuff

“okay, so dy,” you ask, “if it looks good and plays well, story is excellent and music is perfect, wtf is up your ass about it then?”

so bear with me. what i am about to straight-up complain about rn is by no means anything major or even something that should prevent anyone from ever being apart of the game and its story. these are minor, personal complaints that i want to vent out, and if it so happens that i have people who agree with me then great! if not, then yeah i totally understand because people see the story differently and want different things, as life goes.

long rant ahead, beware.

so the negative about kh3, ill start with the annoying and lead up to the heart-crushing part (yet expected) part first.

The Frozen and Tangled levels were rough. lmao, not skill-wise, no. Just. Tangled was going through the whole damn movie......right? without songs and certain minor characters, but we...went through the whole movie with Rapunzel and it was sooooo awkward to watch the cutscenes....because sora, donald and goofy were just. there. they did nothing to progress the story. they were just....there? eugene died. they witnessed a man DIE. and it was........anticlimatic a little in how they reacted???? like that they dont quite understand death so they were just like awwwwww :/ and then he came back so yeah, but. it was so weird?? with them there???? why were they there??? why this way???? why not make up a whole new story or add to it or something or other??? is it cuz she’s one of the new 7 princesses of light so we had to do a whole thing??? cuz we didn’t for any other princess??? oh besides Frozen.

Frozen was the worst level for me. just the worst. i never liked the movie, so that’s strike one, strike two is i had to re-listen to two of those infamous songs.......because sora had to listen to them. why....when....when was there disney songs shot frame-per-frame.....in KH? and no, ariel in KH2 doesn’t count because that whole WORLD was a MUSICAL WORLD. the only actions you could take was THROUGH muSICcccCCCCC.

my point is that there was too much pandering going on there, also the story was just as nonsensical as it was in the movie. if i never saw it i would have been so confused as to where that brunette dude came from, how he got Elsa, WHY he wanted to kill her---the game (tangled was a tad bit guilty of this too, wtf did Rapunzel start calling Flynn Eugene? i saw the movie so i knew but they didn’t explain that until their world was finished) so....good luck to whoever did watch the movies?? KH assumes you’ve seen both of them, compared to the Carribbean where I never saw the movie but i knew wtf was going on??? also big hero 6, never saw that but could get the gist!!!!

they were just WAY too movie heavy which isn’t the usual for the series, and im sure if they are included in the next game itll be a different experience because the movies are now established, so there hopefully there won’t be any pandering from Frozen’s end too much.

Now......the stuff that is more personal. okay here goes.

KH, from the jump, has somewhat kinda tried to establish a maybe romantic angle between Sora and Kairi. Now, because of how friendship heavy the whole series is and the love friends share....I for one never picked that up until i was reading tvtropes and i was reading up on Kairi being one of the main reasons that Sora and Riku were even beefy in the first game to being with??? the both liked her but she chose Sora or something????? that shit flew so far over my head and no, i wasn’t a child playing the first game for the first time---this was only a couple years ago. i just....did not...pick up romantic interest? i picked up...friend?? because they kept saying....Friend™?

anyway, series goes on, Kairi is known to the fandom as being written mostly out of focus and is never used well enough in the plot. and i agree. they never used her to her potential, and even in KH3, where she is now a keyblade wielder, she still becomes something to save...............even in the very end.........even when she and Sora had their moment of “imma save you this time!” .....no........sora still leaves to go and save her.............so.like.......yay for....growth? kinda....? i just feel bad for her tbh.

that’s one thing. the main, large thing that i did see coming but was disappointed in nonetheless was that several games later of pushing her aside, of focusing much more on the relationship between Sora and Riku with an ENITRE GAME narrowed in on both of them and their journey toGETher---KH3 begins to focus on the romantic angle between Sora and Kairi again. and its obvious enough where NOW yes, even I picked up on it this time around.

and at this point......it just.....came off so forced? they lay it on thiccccccc my dudes. and it feels like it. yes, there are still moments between Riku and Sora, sure, but that is down-played SOOO much compared to fuggin KH:DDD or hell even KH2....

like.........i don’t expect any gay male video game protags from Square Enix, I really dont. but i also dont want some last-minute romance shoved down my throat??? when i was fine with how it was before??? maybe if they still kept the subtly that they had done and with newer games continuing to build off of that, I wouldn’t be so put off by the idea. KH2 did a good job of building it, like when Sora imagined Kairi and him dancing together in halloween town--that was cute af?????? and well integrated????? and could STILL be taken as him just missing a FRIEND or yeah, a potential love interest! but just. jesus. you didn’t care about them being together then, don’t do it now because it comes off a little cheap.

also fuck Riku i guess???? kairi doesn’t give a fuck about Riku at all?/??? is the overall vibe i was getting???lmao aren’t all 3 of them friends??????? no???????? kairi only messes with sora and riku only messes with sora?????? can i get some uhhhhhhhhhhh riku and kairi time too or nah????? we had a moment of them at the beginning of the game i guess and then....that was....kinda it? so fucking disappointing how they write her man. she’s so much more than a love interest and there are moments when that shows, but there’s too many where she just....is only sora-focused?

you want an example of how forced it was that they were switching Sora’s relationship from Riku to Kairi? now don’t quote me on this i could very well be wrong because i never actively listened for bkg music until DDD, but Dearly Beloved? the titular theme song for every single KH menu and emotional scenes? the theme song that DDD later ESTABLISHED in CANON that it was Riku and Sora’s heart song playing together????? a song that plays in some kinda version whenever Sora and Riku are having a moment??????? WELP. i wanna say they still kept it for Sora and Riku for at least one cutscene with them together. at least. i can’t name others, but they at least did it once cuz i remember getting excited about it.

they now played it more frequently whenever Kairi showed up on screen, or when she and Sora were having a moment together.

SORA. and RIKUS song....playing now for SORA and KAIri???? please correct me if im wrong, absolutely tell me if im wrong that im just not observant and it’s always been like that because tbh that’ll make this better for me lol but they just took Riku and went YEET. “Sora is the hero. Sora gets the girl because of course he does. Sora is GOD and fuck yall for not expecting him to have a love interest at the end of this and YES it will be a girl and YES it WILL be the one we keep forgetting about to make his love interest up until now because yall were getting the most wrongest ideas of where this was going so we’ll fix that right up for ya”

i still loved the game. hell, even with the ending like that (”i gotta go save Kairi! again! even though we had a whole thing with the papou fruit about how she was going to save me and protect me this time! and i gotta do it alllll by myself!!! she has a keyblade you say???? she wants to be more useful to me you say???? well FUCK that imma go rescue her because im Sora and i am hero boy!!”) i still had a good time! it really is a good game, please go play it to get all the feels in the world, if this minor stuff is minor for you too, then go play it RIGHT. NOW!!!!!

but yeah. ya girl was disappointed by how forced it was. expected it, but still doesn’t negate how i feel in the end. so now im gonna indulge in soriku art.

just finished lost stars and i have some Thoughts on it:

- i like the different perspectives in different clans i just wish that maybe our 3 pov’s would interact more? i mean, we have bristlefrost and rootpaw really having a ~connection~ and rootpaw believes in shadowpaw but we never see bristlefrost and shadowpaw interact?? i think?? the most we get is them mentally acknowledging that their cousins but that’s about it

-i dont like tigerstar jr. but i like his commitment to loving the shit out of his son. yes, he’s still an ass and i dont like how he’s like “son... you can NOT tell people about your vision otherwise you will put your mom in danger im placing all of this burden on your shoulders” because like dude that’s fucked up. but it’s nice seeing how much he (mostly) loves and trusts his weird prophecy child

-i do like how bristlefrost is just an average warrior tho! no magical prophecies or weird dads just like a kid of a well respected thunderclan power couple. it’s interesting how the erins try to keep her in the loop of Important Thunderclan Drama while also showing how she’s just a warrior trying to do the best for her clan instead of following some world shattering prophecy

-SPEAKING OF WORLD SHATTERING PROPHECIES why was jayfeather (and other medcats but mostly jayfeather) so mad about how only shadowclan was getting signs from “starclan” (if it’s really from starclan idfk) when him, his brother, and like second cousin were the saviors of the clans but all only in thunderclan?? like you cant say “what makes shadowclan so special” when thunderclan has been that special clan for generations my dude

-anyway, i love how the clans still have short term memories and never learn from their mistakes if it happened like a season or two ago. why do we need to get along??? we already did that before and it worked out but this time?? no!!! fuck shadowclan!! what do you mean this bullshit was why starclan sent down an entire storm last greenleaf??

-my favorite part of the entire book was that one random paragraph that spoiled the entirety of squirrelflight’s hope- a book that hasnt even come out yet

-for the first half of the book i was totally sold on bramblestar having rabies i was losing my goddamn mind. but i do like the new direction it’s going in. it’s more fun seeing a well-respected leader turn into a fear-mongering possible tyrant then finding out he’s possible possessed?? like the rabies plot line could only go down one path (bramblestar dying) but im genuinely excited to see where this is going and who exactly is possessing our favorite ambitious dark brown tabby. i like the ashfur theory but ive also seen someone say it could be clear sky which i thought was a lot more interesting cuz i hate clear sky and i want to see him get fucking destroyed in another arc (erins pls) but im mostly gonna stay away from making any theories cuz the next book in the series is gonna come out in what? september? and by that point all my theories will probably be debunked and seem dumb by then

i love seungmin’s smau 😭 there’s so many on queue na and i’m currently writing the written chapter. as i wrote for it, i realized that it’s probably not going to be a long fic, i feel like with the story revolving around six people, there really isn’t much arcs to go on and i think i’d focus on the main boy na anywho. it’ll probably be a linear development with two to three arcs at most, not like jyp-u where there’s so many things happening all at once.

and thank you, i’m glad you enjoyed the fics 😭🤧 i’ve loved writing them too especially since i’m currently in another motivational streak uwu. i’m even already excited to plan out hyunjin’s smau (wow i just love smaus). and yes, i love receiving your asks no matter how long 👩‍💻.

Ok so i couldnt do the exact way you prompted, because i tie in Aku’s “sickness” heavily with personal headcanons about how Aku even functions (which i will post once im done collecting them in a cohesive way), but i have attempted a thing nonetheless

under the cut cuz it ran a little long

Jack races outside to a balcony from the citadel, and stares up, gawking, with the rest of the crowd at the dark underside of the tremendous spaceship lurking overhead that is now blocking out the sun. A virtual screen flickers on, and a green-scaled, bug-like face comes into view. Its antennae wriggle as the mandibles move to make a fast series of clicking noises, evidently speaking.

Jack is about to ask if anyone can understand what’s being said, but then a robotic voice rings out from the ship, louder than the alien.

“Your leader Aku is weak and we have come to take that power! Do not panic, and do not fight it, or you shall be met with consequences.”

Jack narrows his eyes, and is about to prepare to run inside and grab his sword when he notices that the minions and workers are all just...standing there. A few even look bored.

And that’s when he hears a whistle of air, and his eyes only barely catch the streak of black before it collides with the ship, but it doesn’t seem to impact it. Instead, darkness spreads over the ship like a giant wave, the screen of the alien’s face flickering out as the spread continues, until there is nothing but the solid mass of black.

Jack’s jaw drops open again as that mass begins to float away, but he winces as light from the sun filters back in as the ship leaves. The crowd begins to disperse back into the citadel, though Jack is still frozen to the spot.

“Amateurs.” one of the minions remarks, rolling his eyes under the hood while he passes Jack.

When Jack finally makes his way inside, in the main hall Aku stands there with a massive crew of aliens exactly like the one that had been on the screen, all looking terrified as they are handcuffed by Aku’s minions. He walks up on shaking legs, but he can’t decide if he’s terrified by the display or almost bursting with awe and excitement at it.

Aku seems to delay in noticing him, even creaking as he does so. He beams when he sees it’s Jack, however.

“Ah, samurai! I am glad you are here to witness these criminals experiencing punishment for their crimes!”

Jack succeeds in not flinching at that, and then notices Aku seems...wispy at his edges. His shoulders, especially, seem to be in a constant, barely-there state of dissolving away. He blinks and refocuses on Aku’s face.

“Er, yes, good job Aku.” Jack walks up to gently put his hand on Aku’s arm, and he frowns when Aku feels a little more liquid than solid. Aku stiffens, and instantly his body is its usual texture.

Neither of them mention it again, but Jack does learn that not only did Aku control himself and the ship, but once he had landed it safely he used his essence to control the hundred aliens or more to get them to teleport back to his lair.

Truly, just one more impressive feat that Jack now knew Aku was capable of.

That night, two more ships come in and start off attacking the city. Thankfully most of the damage is superficial, as Aku’s reaction is fast once more. He uses the same method for one of the ships, but once the second comes in he simply grows in size and grabs it from the air, then tears off its engines before not-so-gently putting it next to the other.

This time Jack catches a ride on one of the beetledrones, following them out to where Aku has landed the ships, and while the minions and beetledrones do their work of capturing and taking record of all the new prisoners Jack walks around, trying to find Aku after the demon seems to vanish.

They literally run into each other as Jack rounds a corner, and when Jack steps back he sees Aku’s form ripple and shudder, and Aku seems to have trouble reforming himself into his usual stature at his typical height. He makes a sort of annoyed growl, and after a couple seconds gets himself together.

“Any damage reports in?” Aku immediately begins. Jack nods, but he’s keeping a wary eye on Aku.

“Are you alright?” He can’t help but ask.

Aku snorts, but it turns into a grin as he strides up and past Jack. Jack turns and follows him.

“Your concern is touching, truly, but not necessary.” Aku’s voice is clipped, almost tight. Jack doesn’t pursue the subject, even if it lingers in him, because they grow too busy directing the beetledrones and checking in with the damaged areas.

Aku had always seemed quick to recover from the times they fought before, anyway.

In the next three days there’s a whole series of more ships, with at least three a day appearing at any location on the planet. Aku is always there instantly, taking care of it each time, but Jack begins to notice a distinct weariness to the demon’s features, and Aku seems to move around the castle more and more sluggishly. He’s of course insistent that he’s fine, but Jack makes sure to move his own work to Aku’s throne room or office as often as he can to keep close to Aku, and he casually requests Aku’s secretary to move as many appointments out of the way as possible for that week.

By the fourth day the alien species, which they now know is the Hvarkthons from the Sarris system, officially surrender. The prisons in the citadel haven’t been this full in at least a year, but after they all sign the treaties and contracts all the temporary prisoners are finally cleared out and a sigh of relief is collectively breathed around the castle.

Jack heads down to Aku’s office the next day, but as he gets closer he sees a trail of small black puddles that grow larger and more frequent as he nears the door. When he steps inside he notices that Aku is hunched over, his face on his desk, and the demon is— there’s no better word for it— dripping. His entire form just looks soggy.

Jack rushes up to his side, and carefully reaches his hand out to what he can make out to be Aku’s shoulder. He is sure that touching Aku like this won’t result in getting possessed by the demon’s essence again, but he’s also never been this close to Aku if the demon ever got like this.

“Aku?” he asks softly, and his hand makes contact with the wet shape. He grimaces as his hand starts to sink in, so he keeps the pressure light and is sure to only let it rest just on the surface of Aku’s form.

He hears a low groan from somewhere inside Aku, and the blackness wriggles and shivers. It takes nearly fifteen seconds before Aku peels his face from the desk with a suction noise and stares past Jack, squinting. His eyebrows are low, almost out, but at least he seems to be able to keep his face mostly in its normal form.

“Samurai?” he mumbles, then begins to cough and hack, his body trembling and jerking about violently in the chair. Jack pries his hand back, and some of Aku’s body comes away between his fingers before slowly falling away and to the floor.

Jack takes a breath, and straightens his back.

“Enough! You are going to bed, and resting until you are better.” He makes his voice as firm and projected as possible, and when Aku stops coughing he seems to understand, drooping his head but making a little nodding motion as he does.

Aku doesn't really stand so much as contort his body into an upright position, but immediately starts to tilt. Jack reacts instantly, stepping forward with his arms out to grab Aku, but when his hands make contact Aku falls all over him, coating Jack in a wet, black goo.

Jack had flinched, but after a few moments he can’t feel much on his face so he risks cracking open one eye, then the other. He looks over himself to see splatters of Aku everywhere, effectively coating him, and he peers down to see a pair of small flames burning from the center of his chest.

He blinks twice rapidly, and then sighs through his nose and starts to cautiously make his way out of the office and back through the hallways and stairs to their bedroom. He passes thankfully few minions and workers, who only give him wide eyes before steering clear of him.

When he finds the final staircase down, Aku begins to slip from him, his essence peeling down Jack’s body and clothing. Jack quickly cups his hands around the two eyebrows, holding them, as he picks up his pace.

He spits out to get off anything that might have landed near his mouth, and then offers in a reassuring tone, “Come on, just a little further. We are almost to bed.”

The essence seems to shudder in response, and stops dripping heavily long enough for Jack to reach their bedroom and allow the puddles to pool together and slide under the sheets.

Jack takes a breath, and walks around to sit on top of the sheets, settling himself in for a long meditation. He can’t think of what else to do— as far as he’d known, Aku should be immune to diseases. It’s not like the demon has organs, or anything to become unwell. The only other time he’d seen Aku like this he’d never figured out what had caused it, and he’d never thought to ask Aku.

He loses track of time, and before he knows it he’s woken up by a hand on his leg. He shakes himself out of the lost state, and looks over to see a still obviously under-the-weather Aku, but at least he has a face and horns again.

The demon sniffles, a short series of deep, snorting noises, and clenches his half-formed hand into Jack’s leg with all the power of a small child.

“Is there anything I may do to help?” Jack offers, placing his own hand over Aku’s. It’s still mostly a liquid state, but at least he can distinguish between fingers.

Aku starts to cough again, hacking up essence that spills onto the pillow before it drools down to go back into his body. Jack watches with something akin to morbid fascination, since Aku’s anatomy is a strange (but sometimes fascinating) thing.

The demon paws at Jack’s leg, hitting the apex between his hip and thigh, and Jack almost warms a bit. But he takes a guess and lays down closer to Aku, bringing their hands up and between them. Aku seems to settle, closing his eyes again and starting to snore shortly thereafter.

Jack chuckles softly and lets himself relax again. He’ll be here for Aku, as long as the demon wishes.

heyyy everyone! so @bodhilukes asked for podcast recommendations on twitter and @czarrish and i immediately jumped on that. i was gonna make this list sometime this month away, and im super excited to do it! this is probably gonna get long so under the cut we go!

COMEDIES:

1. Hello From The Magic Tavern

Updates: Every Monday

General Length Of Eps: 40 mins to an hour

Synopsis: Arnie Niekamp fell through a dimensional portal at a Burger King in Chicago into the magical, fantastical land of Foon. He’s still getting a slight wifi signal from the Burger King, so he hosts a weekly podcast with his buddies Chunt (a shapeshifter who normally takes the shape of a badger) and Usidore, a wizard. They interview different creatures from Foon each week as Arnie tries to learn about Foon, while also trying to figure out how to get back home.

Notes: Okay, I have to say it. This is my favorite podcast. I love it to absolute death. It 100% got me into improv comedy and comedy podcasts, to the point where that’s pretty much all I listen to anymore. Arnie, Matt, and Adal are sweethearts and the show is so genuinely funny and interesting. Please give this one a listen.

2. The Adventure Zone

Synopsis: The McElroys play Dungeons and Dragons. But it’s also so much more than that.

Notes: Okay you all know how much I love this podcast. I love it to death. I’m still only like halfway through it but god it’s amazing and I’m so angry I didn’t start it earlier. All of the characters are amazing and Griffin is truly such an amazing storyteller. It’s so much deeper than you would originally think, and it will make you cry like a baby. Please listen to The Adventure Zone. Holy shit.

3. CoolGames Inc

General Length Of Eps: An hour (CGI Jrs are 20 mins)

Synopsis: Polygon’s Nick Robinson and Griffin McElroy take listener suggestions and make video games out of them.

Notes: These are my favorite soft boys, and they are just too funny. Some of the games they come up with are genuinely good games that you’ll be upset don’t actually exist, but most of them are just silly goofs that are guaranteed to make you laugh. This podcast single-handedly got me through last semester, so shoutout to Nick and Griffin for that. You should also check out CoolGames Inc Animated!

4. Improvised Star Trek

Updates: Every other Monday

Synopsis: These are the voyages of the starship Sisyphus, Starfleet’s worst crew. Captain Julius Valentine Baxter and his crew, including First Officer Corbomite Hayes, Science Officer Crick Watson, Ensign Laserbear, and Chief Medical Officer Zarlene Zonaldson, just to name a few, get into way too much trouble out in the final frontier.

Notes: I started listening to this because of Matt Young from HFTMT (and because I got super into Trek), but god I fell in love with every single character. Quite a few guests from HFTMT are regulars on IST, and their shenanigans are just amazing. If you love Trek, you’ll love this.

5. Siblings Peculiar

Updates: Infrequently

General Length Of Eps: 30 mins

Synopsis: Adam and Sarah Peculiar (pronounced Pec-U-lAr) are trying to figure out what happened to their parents, paranormal investigators that suddenly disappeared 10 years ago. They interview conspiracy theorists of all sorts as they try to gain any information they can about their parents’ whereabouts.

Notes: I started listening to this one because of Adal Rifai from HFTMT, and I’m glad I did because he and his sister are so funny together. Their conspiracy theories are so off-the-wall hilarious (there’s a whole episode about Grease being propaganda where they interview the real creator of Grease), although I will say the comedy might not be for everyone as it can veer a little into the offensive (but it’s satire and I personally love it). It’s less frequent now because Sadieh got cast in a tv show, but I still recommend listening to it!

DRAMAS:

1. Welcome to Night Vale

Updates: Bimonthly, on the 1st and the 15th.

General Length Of Eps: 30 mins

Synopsis: Cecil hosts a radio show in the mysterious town of Night Vale, where abnormal things like Glow Clouds, angels, ominous dog parks, and floating cats are commonplace.

Notes: We’ve all listened to WTNV at this point, right? Or at least heard of it? Besides an old Fringe podcast I used to listen to back in like 2008, this was the first podcast I ever listened to. Cecil’s voice is just incredibly soothing, I find this podcast really helps when I’m super depressed, and I used to stock up on eps specifically for those times.

2. The Black Tapes/TANIS

Updates: they used to be weekly but they look pretty infrequent now

Current # Of Eps: TBTP has 24, TANIS has 25, both with several bonus eps mixed in

General Length Of Eps: 30-45 mins

Synopsis: TBTP is about journalists Alex and Nic investigating The Strand Institute’s Richard Strand and his various black tapes that may be evidence of the paranormal. TANIS is the spinoff, where Nic focuses more on real life conspiracy theories as he tries to find the location of the mythical TANIS.

Notes: I’m not gonna lie, I did drop both of these podcasts and I’m not sure if I will pick them back up. But the first season of both were incredible, and @czarrish introduced them to me and they really got me into podcasts. In my opinion they both declined in quality during their second seasons, but that’s just my opinion!

3. The Penumbra Podcast

Updates: I think it’s on hiatus? But I think it was bi-weekly at one point

Current # Of Eps: 19, with bonuses mixed in

General Length Of Eps: 30-50 mins

Synopsis: The Penumbra is the grandest hotel this side of Nowhere.The series mostly follows Detective Juno Steel trying to solve mysteries, but they’re all stories you recognize told in ways you won’t expect.

Notes: Again, I’m not gonna lie, I’ve barely listened to this and I really don’t know that much about it. I had to take a lot of the synopsis from the actual one on their website. But the first two episodes were awesome, so I feel confident in recommending it. I think they might be rebooting it?? Idk, you might want to ask @czarrish for more details.

4. Alice Isn’t Dead

Updates: Season one wrapped in Jul 2016 and it’s been on hiatus ever since. edit: s2 is starting soon!

General Length Of Eps: 30 mins

Synopsis: Alice is a truck driver who’s driving across the country in search of her missing wife, who she thought had been dead but now has reason to believe otherwise.

Notes: This is from the creators of WTNV and features the voice of Jasika Nicole, who I know and love from Fringe but also does the voice of Dana on WTNV. It’s spooky but not too much so, and I’ve admittedly only listened to 3 episodes but just like Cecil, Jasika has a wonderfully soothing voice.

1. Jay & Miles X-Plain the X-Men

Synopsis: Basically what it says on the tin: two guys explain in detail everything that has happened in the X-Men universe, starting at the very beginning.

Notes: Again I haven’t listened to too much of this, but it’s really fun. I’ve loved X-Men for a while but I always get confused with all the retcons and different verses and stuff, but Jay and Miles do a wonderful job of explaining everything without making it confusing.

2. Terrace House Mafia

Updates: Infrequently

General Length Of Eps: 10-15 mins

Synopsis: Polygon’s Nick Robinson and his roommate Chad watch Terrace House: Boys & Girls in the City and talk about it. That’s it. But it’s cute as fuck.

Notes: I absolutely love listening to these guys talk about Terrace House because they’re going through the exact same journey that I (and probably everyone) went on when I first watched it. It’s quick and super fun to listen to.

3. The Probe

Updates: Was weekly, but s1 wrapped in November so it’s been on hiatus

General Length Of Eps: 30 mins

Synopsis: A satirical take on news podcasts, two journalists follow the election at Franklin Delano Roosevelt High School, and learn about the country’s political climate along the way.

Notes: Again, I started listening to this because Matt Young from HFTMT produced it, but I really enjoyed it beyond that. If you like HFTMT, you’ll recognize a lot of the Chicago-based actors in The Probe. Also I wasn’t exactly sure where to put this so I just put it in MISC cuz it’s like... definitely funny and improvised but also it’s a little serious, maybe? Idk, it’s satire. And it’s great satire.

I’m also gonna include the podcasts that I’m subscribed to but I haven’t actually started listening to yet. They piqued my interest but I just haven’t gotten around to listening to them yet! this is completely unprompted but i just feel like sharing my first impressions of mp100 cuz why not i made this blog to infodump i can do what i want.

and honestly i read the whole thing about a year ago with very very little spoilers directly after watching the teaser for the anime so a lot of my reactions to the series were very raw and uninfluenced by anybody else’s opinion. i didnt even liveblog it i just read it. and im very glad that was how i read it and im just. reminiscing on that because im grateful that i did that back then.

mob

i first ever saw mob in some fanart that was tagged mob psycho 100 like. a good few years ago tbh. i figured it was some anime or manga i didnt get the time to read but mob first looked to me like he was a delinquent or something. the title and the way i thought abt the word “mob” in my head def had something to do with that, but also he was a straight faced boy who just seemed really seirous. i remember reading in an interview abt one punch man a bit over a year ago that ONE described saitama as stoic and mob as emotional. that. surprised the hell out of me and got me interested but i only read literally EXACTLY right after i saw the first teaser trailer for the anime

when i read the manga i fell in love with the boy right away. it didnt take me long at fucking all. he was great and wonderful and i loved him and i related to him big time and i wanted to see him grow more and more.

and my feelings are pretty much the same now except more complex. but im remembering the first time i got to the end of the world domination arc. i think that line “that’s why I will help you” really impacted me a lot for some reason. mob was, very special to me. he felt very much like me. i could relate to him a lot

reigen

i first saw reigen in some fanart but i thought he was some teenager at first because it was just some kinda cartoony fanart that wasnt very detailed. i guessed that he and mob were a duo or something like saitama and genos were from one punch but i did not guess that it was going to be a master-discible relationship

i hated reigen at first gonna be completely fuckin honest here i was a bit annoyed with him like yeah he was funny but he was also kind of rude??? and i didnt like that he was tricking mob because i loved mob

by the end of the read he really did grow on me. but ive always been a bit hard on the poor guy, but thats just because hes an adult i suppose. even during the separation arc i have to admit.....i wasnt all that sympathetic toward him until the VERY VERY end. IF IM BEING ENTIRELY HONEST I WAS KIND OF GLAD BECAUSE I WAS GLAD THAT MOB REALIZED HE DIDNT NEED HIM AND THAT REIGEN REALIZED HE DID. also i felt he did deserve at least some of what he got from that arc, all things considered. dont get me wrong, i love him now but it did really take a while for me, probably longer than anyone else i know. now im love this greasman with my whole heart (but i still wish he would pay mob more. preoblematic fav for that reason only)

dimple

i knew that dimple was sort of the mascot character but i hoped he wouldnt be one of those annoying ones but i didnt think he would be since i had some faith in ONE’s writing abilities. he seemed like a ghost and i knew that mp100 had ghosts so yeah i thought it was cool to have a ghost character why not

lots of ppl were irritated by dimple at first but. ehhh i could never hate him. i only mildly disliked him before i realized he was That Guy. anyway i had been mostly neutral on dimple but by the mogami arc i actually really started loving dimple a lot because he saved mob a bunch of times and i support mob having friends i dont care who they are i want this good boy to have friends

by the end i absolutely did love him i loved him and reigens interractions at that point but i didnt know if it was like. socially acceptable to ship him with reigen. i wouldnt have done it with sg dimple because i had no idea that was even a thing. i forgot abt that dumbass security guard he wasnt even a person in my mind honestly the first sg dimple fanart i came across i was so confused i was like. who is this. who is this man dimples possessing. took me forever to realize it was that security guard who he possessed for probably less than an hour and that confused the hell out of me but then i realized. oh. u guys just want to make him hot. okay

ritsu

ritsu was probably the character i knew the most about, but i knew very little. i only saw him in opm/mp100 fanarts where they compared mob and ritsu to tatsumaki and fubuki, and i guessed that ritsu was the fubuki with the inferiority complex. and i was right but it wasnt it quite the same way. but overall he seemed interesting in that regard since i loved fubuki at the time so he was a character i was looking forward to.

ritsu was...it was love at first sight??? yeah. i loved ritsu so much right from the start i loved how he was introduced i loved his character arc i loved the whole way it was presented if the teru arc just before that hadn’t already hooked me then his arc sure as fuck did.

the last line i ever saw ritsu utter when i finally caught up with the manga was the famous “hnn...the loans” line. perhaps one of the best lines of all time??? i loved ritsu and since i knew fuck abt shit wrt what was going to happen in the scar arc i was literally about to cry when it was revealed he might be dead god. i was SO STRESSED IN THAT WHOLE FUCKING ARC I DONT THINK I HAD EVER BEEN MORE STRESSED IN MY LIFE.

teru (oh boy)

i first saw teru in the first teaser. i think that was actually the thing that made me want to read it, mostly because the animation and movement in that scene just was so. good. and flowing. he seemed like a villain to me, or some sort of rival. but a harmless one. one that couldn’t fucking touch mob. it sort of reminded me of the thing w/ saitama vs sonic in opm. he seemed like an asshole, but for some reason in my heart when i saw him doing that shit there, i felt like i would like him. i had no basis for this. but i cant believe i was right

when i first saw teru in the manga i was gettin all excited because “hey this looks like the esper kid in the teaser!” and i was excited to see a new character like that introduced. i at least wanted to meet another esper. and teru seemed like the type of villain who would get his ass handed to him in the worst of ways and realize that mob was much much stronger than him and maybe hed even gain some respect for it and i fucking called it i cant believe it i called it in the first page i saw him i fuckign CALLED IT. and i was screaming throughout his whole arc. every second i found myself absolutely falling in love with him and. actually. unfortunately understanding exactly where he was coming from. and once mob went on the whole “you’re just like me” speech, that was probably the defining moment.

but it didnt stop with that arc at ALL. every gotdam second he was on screen after that i was honestly thinking in my head “stop doing that ur gonna be my fav if u keep doing that!” but he kept doing that and wound up being my fav and i loved how much he believed and supported mob and i loved how different and yet how similar he was from the first time we see him and. i couldnt help myself hes my Type. i was destined to fall for him from the start

I HAD NO PREVIOUS INTRODUCTION TO SHOU BEFORE I READ THE SERIES. HE WAS NOT ANYONE TO ME. HE WAS NOTHING. which was why so much of the claw stuff surprised me tbh. but yeah i had no idea who this kid was i had not been introduced to him

when i first saw shou i disliked him for beating up ritsu and capturing him and mob and i also disliked him for calling mob a coward and THEN i disliked him for burning down mobs house and possibly killing ritsu and his family in fact by that point i was seeing red i wanted that fuckr DEAD. but then it was revealed that everyone was safe but i was still a bit peeved that he did what he did to mob just to leave a “fuse” but i was also projecting a bit because shou almost gave me a fucking HEART ATTAKC and i was NOT GOING TO EASILY FORGIVE. i did forgive tho. eventually. after my poor heart calmed down and i saw him get beat up by his dad and his hubris

at the end i shipped ritshou because obviously i shipped ritshou i mean how can u not i mean theyre just really good i shipped it

If you’re reading this on Tumblr and still following me you probably know that I pretty much only come around to post about EVO and then peace out a few days later. I’m not sure how many of you that is because Im not 100% on how the new dashboard works but if you are here then you know I’m around a little early. But I’m posting *about* EVO anyway so there ya go.

If you’re reading this on Facebook then I know a lot of you guys probably only have at best a passing knowledge of what EVO is but you’ve seen me post about it, particularly Ultimate Marvel vs Capcom 3 a lot, so I’m just gonna ask if you guys have any spare money please consider donating here:

And as a final pretense before I really get into this I’m just gonna be honest this is gonna be pretty rant-y, so it might not be a super focused read and will probably contain a few expletives so just be pre-warned.

Originally I was gonna come here and I was going to break down the poll game by game, essentially breaking down why I felt like each game shouldn’t be voted for and why Marvel should. But as it stands right now the winner is going to be either Marvel or Pokken, so this is mostly going to be centered around why I think Marvel is the most deserving game, and why I feel Pokken just might be the least deserving, or at least one of the least deserving.

And every time I look at that generosity page my stomach does flips because it’s literally like a best/worst case scenario. But the funny part about this entire situation is I feel like Marvel shouldn’t even be on this poll. Marvel absolutely *should* already have its spot. Regardless of how you the individual might feel about Marvel 3 in particular, Marvel vs. Capcom has been practically synonymous with EVO. Up until only last year Marvel, be it 2, 3, or Ultimate 3, has always been sort of the penultimate game for EVO, only behind whatever Street Fighter was out at the time. I don’t know if I agree with IFC Yipes in that Marvel made EVO (mostly because I haven’t been around *that* long), but I do agree that without it EVO never would have reached the point that it has. And you look at Marvel 3 specifically, and that game has been a staple of EVO through damn near every iteration of Street Fighter 4, even lasting long enough to share the stage with Street Fighter 5, outlived who knows how many Netherrealms games, Soul Caliburs, Tekkens, Personas, you name it. And that’s not to knock (most) of those games but to make a point that not even taking into account 2, Marvel 3 specifically has been a prefixture of this event for a long ass time

And never mind the countless moments that the game has given us. Back in 2013 what was one of the top things people talked about when EVO was over? Justin’s absolutely incredible run, beating odds on favorite Chris G and going on to nearly defeat Floker to win his first Marvel 3 EVO. Then there was the following year when he clutched it out against F Champ and beat Chris G once more to finally actually do it.

Hell even last year, Chris G, despite being the odds on favorite to win several years in a row, *finally* went ahead and took the one tournament that had alluded him for years. And the year before that when KBR (even though I dont much care for him) became the first non-American to win Marvel at EVO.

People have known for a minute with MvCI on the horizon that this was probably going to be Marvel 3′s last year at EVO, and so people were gearing up for it’s proper final sendoff and now you’re telling me that Marvel might not even be *at* EVO?

And I know there’s a lot of people who agree with me on this because every where I go, even from people who voted for different games, even for people who voted for Pokken, I keep hearing the same thing: “I’m voting for Pokken, but Marvel absolutely deserves to be there”

“Marvel shouldn’t even be a part of the poll”

“There shouldn’t even be a poll, Marvel should take that 9th slot”

And don’t even get me started on how tight I am that there are not one but TWO Smash games, games that barely even qualify as fighting games, games that a good chunk of the FGC never wanted around in the first place, at EVO, but Marvel might not. Especially since y’all are a good chunk of the people pushing for Pokken (which we’ll get to trust me). If I hear one more Melee player complain about Melee being on Saturday and not Sunday while Marvel might not even *be* at EVO I honestly might lose my shit.

And I mean no disrespect to my Smash 4 community, particularly the local Nebraska scene cuz y’all know I have nothing but respect for you guys. My problem really mostly is with Melee, that relic of a game that people just cant seem to let go of. But it’s so funny to me at how often the Smash crowd, particularly Melee, talks about how much they don’t need the FGC and yet they won’t leave.

But it isn’t even really about that. I could sit here and talk shit about Melee all day long but you know whatever. They have there spot and that’s fine. But suffice to say that if it were up to me, Melee would get booted in favor of Marvel in a heartbeat.

But let’s talk about this poll for an honest minute though. If you remember the donation drive they did a while ago and compare it to this one, the last one blows this one way out of the water. Every single game on that list was at least, you know, a fighting game, with actual communities that would absolutely show up to play. I mean there was Melee and Brawl of course but again shit, at least those two games are closer to fighting games than shit like Windjammers, and Nidhogg. There wasn’t goofy meme-y shit like those two, and ARMS. And dont get me wrong I’m excited to play ARMS but THAT GAMES NOT EVEN OUT YET (and before anyone brings up “Injustice 2 isn’t out either” just know that in my book that game can go fuck itself for about the same reason. BUT EVEN THEN, that game at least has a known community that will come out and play it). We don’t even know what community, if any, is gonna come out for ARMS, by that point, since it’ll be coming out 1-3 months before EVO (I’d remind you that ARMS doesn’t even have a set release date. Just “Spring 2017″), that game isn’t even gonna have any real advanced tech discovered yet, if there even is any to discover. Not that any of those stand a chance at winning at this point but the fact that they were included kinda pisses me off. I can kind of see Windjammers since a lot of the FGC likes that game but Nidhogg? Do most of yall even remember that game? And ARMS? REally?

I know someone’s gonna be like, “Well the last donation drive had Divekick, and Fighting is Magic”. And I was one of the first people to say that FiM was probably the weakest, meme-ist option put up there but you know, that was happened because the FGC is filled with trolls. If you remember, the only games that made the donation drive were games that got at least 500 votes on the Facebook poll and I’m pretty confident that 490 of FiM’s votes were trolls being trolls. And at least in Divekick’s defense, that game was made by a dude from that community, for the community. Divekick is basically one massive FGC in joke anyway so if Divekick had made it, it basically would’ve been a big thank you to one of the FGC’s own.

But I think what makes me the most upset about the whole situation isn’t even just that Marvel might not get the proper sendoff that it deserves, but that it’s Swan Song stands a strong chance of being snatched away by Pokken. And just, let’s review Pokken for a sec.

First off, this was the game that was being removed from Japanese arcades in droves because nobody gave enough of a shit to play it. And we’re talking about a culture that loves both Pokemon AND fighting games, and they wanted absolutely nothing to do with that game.

And then, when it came stateside, those of yall that watched tournaments saw that pretty much ever ad breakthere was a little vingette for Pokken. They tried their hardest to get people to actually care about this game, and yet... you pratically had to dig through the Twitch trenches just to find Pokken tournaments. People weren’t watching, and people weren’t entering. Then it got to EVO because Nintendo money, and it had one of the lowest entrants and viewer rates of any of the games there.

Then post EVO, a lot of majors didn’t even run the game because people weren’t entering or watching. And speaking of Nintendo, I would remind you that Nintendo themselves have since dropped Pokken from their Pokemon Championship Series. So not even the parent company gives a fuck about the game at this point.

So with all that being said, never in a million years did I think that Marvel would be neck and neck with Pokken. KI, maybe. MKX, maybe. Shit I figured even Windjammers had a better shot than Pokken and yet here we are.

And you might wonder where the fuck the money is coming from if nobody gives a shit about Pokken. Simple, its coming from Smashers (and you can go check smash websites, most of them are advocating super hard for Pokken), and people who are just fans of Pokemon and will throw money at anything Pokemon. And look I love Pokemon too. It’s top 3 favorite Nintendo franchise and might be top 5 favorite franchises of all time. But I have no doubt in my mind that a lot of the people throwing money at this, barely know what EVO is, probably don’t even know the dates of EVO, and have 0 intentions of watching that game at EVO much less showing up to play the game. Case in point, Shofu is out here on Twitter advocating and donating to this game, and you would think that Shofu, who runs one of the biggest Pokemon related YouTube channels, would probably have a lot of Pokken content right? Well guess when the last time he even posted a video about the game was. I’ll save you the search, it was 6 months ago. One of these videos were, ironically enough, entitled “time to come back”. And then there were two more videos within the same time span, and he hasn’t touched the game since.

And this is kind of the additude that I’m talking about. I read a tweet earlier that summed it up perfectly. About how people never want to watch or come out to support Pokken, and then want to wonder why there aren’t any Pokken tournaments. That game died forever ago. You might even argue that that game was dead on arrival but even if you don’t, then you have to agree that there hasn’t been a game that died out quicker than Pokken did. For all the shit people gave SFxT at least that game lasted a couple of years as opposed to about 3 months. And at least that game had some potential at release, instead of being booted from Japanese arcades Y’all are throwing money at this game and I have no doubt in my mind that it’s going to once again have abyssmal turnout/viewership.

And that’s to me, is the most upsetting thing. That Marvel stands a shot of being robbed by a game that people don’t actually care about, but has a fanbase that will throw money at anything with Pikachu’s face on it. If it were KI, I wouldn’t be super happy, but it would be ok. MKX, kinda upset because I hate that game but you know what, fine. Or even Skullgirls which to me would be best case scenario, if your top two games were SG and Marvel because easily and measurably those two deserve it. Skullgirls is a fantastic game with an ultra dedicated community that only got treated like shit by EVO. I have no doubt in my mind that had SG’s won the last donation drive that game would be one of the biggest in the FGC right now and might even still to this day be a mainstay at EVO. And so if *any* game was gonna be Marvel, I’d wish it to be Skullgirls. But at least I can say of any of the games I mentioned above, people would come out to play it, and support it. In the example of MKX, it would be the exact same people that would be playing Injustice but fuck, at least it’s *someone*.

And I know someone’s gonna be like “well what did you ever do for Marvel?” and yeah, I’ve never been to a major, because I don’t have money like that. But at least every time there is something local for the game, I go out and play. I took time off of work and drove an hour out one time just to get 0-2′d in Marvel on a couple of occasions, but at least I went out there. And I’m out here watching the streams, watching the VoDs; 90% of my “watch later” playlist is Marvel shit that I didn’t get to watch live.

And with that said, yeah I’ll admit that a bit of it is personal for me. Marvel is absolutely my favorite game out there right now. Without Marvel 3 I probably would not care about EVO and the FGC as a whole. But that’s why I don’t want to see it get robbed of a proper sendoff by a game that’s just gonna die out again the minute EVO is over.
