BODY IDEALS . We’re all bogged down by the weight of ideals society has shoved down our throats. Women, men, thick, thin, tall, short we all have things we’re insecure about. . Before I took the photo I was freaking out because I thought the bikini was going to cut into my sides and I HATED that feeling growing up, but I also hated it when I weighed 35lbs less and was a shell of myself. . Before I took this photo I was thinking about how my thighs would look? How no matter what I lift or how far I run they’re always thick and always fucking rub against each other in the summer (PSA I bought body glide...holy shit what have I been doing my whole life without it). . guess what? None of it has anything to do with the way we look and everything to do with the weight of the expectations we carry. . Those thick thighs carry me miles and up mountains and lift heavy things. That stomach holds space for food to nourish me. . What if today we shifted our focus to HOW we feel in our bodies instead of WHAT we feel about our bodies? . WATER . It’s day 3 of #sscgatheringwithgaia and today we’re turning our attention to the magic that is water. . There is nothing more soothing to my soul than being as entangled with nature as possible. This weekend in preparation for this Mother Earth challenge I went to the mountains to come home to myself. . As a child I never really understood church, as I got older I realized it just wasn’t my religion. Mother Nature is my church. That’s where I feel peace and home. . The feeling of the sun on my skin, the ice cold river flowing around me, the earth under my toes and my wild little monster by my side is everything my soul needs. . GOOD & BAD . Humans love to categorize things don’t we. We love to talk about good foods and bad foods and good feelings and bad feelings. . Here’s what I’ve noticed, life is SO MUCH MORE nuanced than that. . What would happen if you shifted your perspective to things just are without needing to put it in a box? . What if there just are foods and they have different nutritional elements and feel emotionally different for us. Maybe we don’t have to categorize them as good or bad and just eat what feels good and nourishing in our bodies. . What if there weren’t good or bad feelings? What if we just greeted and sat with what was and acknowledged that that’s how we feel today? ANXIETY . Living with anxiety is hard. It’s a journey with loads of ups and downs. . When it’s bad it can feel so heavy, it can feel like you’re on a spiraling ride diving deeper and deeper down the rabbit hole and you can’t get off. . It can feel like losing control of your mind and your body. It can feel like your mind and your body betraying you. It can feel like you’re trapped and in danger for hours or days. It can feel lonely like no one understands you. It can feel like you’re completely disconnected from your body and the world around you. . On those days it helps me to move my body. . On those days it helps to feel the earth under my toes. It helps to breathe deeply into my belly. It helps to release the tension in my brain, body and heart. . On those days it helps to be kind to myself and love myself. It helps to acknowledge that anxiety has come to visit without trying to fight it with every fiber of my being. .
