i was talking to lestat the other day about poetry. i have a friend whose art i love and admire dearly but their poetry is weakened by their need, or perhaps simply their tendency, to write into their poem an explanation for everything they feel. not a justification necessarily but an overarticulation, more words to carve out the shape of the unspeakable thing

they do not come to me for poetic critique and so i do not give it to them. but in discussing this, and other poets, with lestat i of course had to use poetry to explain my own feeling about why i dont think poems work if you put too much effort into explaining them

as anne carson puts it:

its not that we want to understand everything or even understand anything we want to understand something else

i think this extends to most fields of art. david lynch notoriously refuses to explain his films. many authors disdain readers who try to "solve" their books. i suspect i am a mediocre poet for the same reason i am an altogether skillful cartoonist. there come multiple points in the process of writing (longform) prose where i shake my head and imagine pulling my manuscript out of my readers hands and say no no no i wrote it all wrong, im doing you a disservice by feeding your imagination the wrong thing, let me just show you instead. not out of a lack of faith in my readers sevicable imaginations (though maybe this is the case on my more misanthropic days) so much as a glaring self-consciousness that my words mean less when not juxtaposed against another movement. (and i wonder if musicians and lyricists feel this way towards poetry as i the graphic novelist feel towards novels.) my ability to articulate that "something else" requires more than one axis of imagination. if im feeling bad about myself i will point out that this means i am inefficient and prone to making more work for myself. if i find some generosity and compassion for the plight of the cartoonist i inhabit i will point out that this meaning is multiplicative, and only some stories can come out in this form without suffering some kind of mutilation.

i dislike thought bubbles in multiple levels for multiple reasons, partly because they also overexplain. i wont deny thought bubbles have their placeand im even outright fond of the manga tradition that blends it with narration wherein western comics theyre much more distinct but for the kind of comics i read and write, the characters' inner psyches are the one place i need to go alone, without the author. if i do my job right my comic will help my readers go there on their own path, and thats a privilege solely for them

is the thought process that Zizi goes through here even able to be articulated in a manner where one word can be put after another in a comprehensible order? if it was, is that more important than the reader moving through these emotions with them, and coming to these conclusions? im not so egotistical to presume i get to tell my readers how to feel or think or understand. its only my hope that through my art they find out what they want to understand something else.

i think a service dog would help you a lot. in particular, a labdrador or golden retriever would do well for you. if you have texture issues or cant handle shedding, a poodle might work as well.

hello! yes we want a service dog very badly we need one we know it'll help us!

we don't know which dog we'll get, but whatever breed will be loved and treated well. we love animals and all dogs are beautiful.

our fav dogs are Borzois and Australian Shepherds but we don't need them as a sevice dog any breed will work we cant wait to work with our dog one day hopefully soon. a lab, receiver or poodle would make us soo happy

the issue we have is money.. we're saving and and waiting til we move out of our abusive household. our mom has a small dog we spend a lot of time with. we taught him tricks so we know we can self train. still a dog cost a lot of money, and we would like help from a trainer too even if we're self training. money is the issue. we have a shopping addiction aswell, with the little money we get from disability goes to our special interets but we're doing our best to save up. we want to save like at least $1000 maybe $1,500 before we take these steps to get an SD..

Mallard was having a wonderful doze when a shrill whistle rudely awoke her. Her eyes slowly opened to the sight of Evening Star happily rolling into the yard. She rolled smoothly, her parts moving so quietly you would have thought she was electric. Her paint gleamed in the afternoon light.

"Ducky!" The younger engine exclaimed as she rolled to a stop and the older pacific held back an undistinguished groan as she saw the crew climb down and walk towards the building behind her. "Look at me! I look almost new. Crovan's Gate was wonderful!"

Mallard bit back a resigned sign, "Indeed they have performed a miracle. Some would almost mistake you for a passenger engine now."

Star ignored her, knowing better to pay mind to the grumpy express engine's sharp tongue. "It feels so good to move again." She sighed in contentment. "I thought I'd never move again. I can never understand why you don't push to be rebuilt, Ducky. They could hardly deny you."

"Some of us are still worn out from working full service lives my dear." Mallard said, closing her eyes in hope of falling back to sleep.

Evening Star’s hurt silence filled the yard, and Mallard knew without looking the stricken expression that would be on her face. She sighed better, to sooth Star than deal with the others if she went in upset 

"You were rebuilt alongside your brother, yes?"

"Oh," Star started at the unexpected question. " and my sister actually. Murdoch from the North Western, he's the oldest you know, and Cewri from the bluebell. Since they need repair at the same time, they offered to rebuild us together."  She sighed happily, "It was so nice to see them again. Even if all the workers would talk about is Gordon."

Mallard was well known for sensing drama with the all the finetuned senses of a Georgia bloodhound, and this moment was no exception. "Oh?"

"They're rebuilding him next month and plan to make improvements so that he can break the record."

"I hold the record my dear, and I doubt our family prototype, no matter how well maintained, can hope to match." Mallard snapped out. 

Rather then offended at her harsh tone, Star looked thoughtful. "You haven't seen him since the eighties have you?"

"He was here on visit last year, dear."

Star gave her a look that meant she was in no way amused by the older pacific. "At speed I mean."

Mallard went to reply then paused, considering, "It would have been earlier, sixties...perhaps the seventies."

"Then you've missed a lot. They remade him a three cylinder again in 72, and have been improving him with every rebuild since. He hit 125 in fifteen."

"Impossible!"

"Verified on multiple levels, and as for unverified, well lets just say you're lucky the Wellsworth radar isn't considered valid." 

"Papyrus only hit 108." Mallard was incredulous.

"They're calling him the A5 now. He's the most advanced pacific in the world now. Roller bearings, new lightweight valve gear, a new hatt exhaust system, a GPCS system, and more." There was a fierce satisfaction in the 9f's tone. Neither engine paid attention to Evening Star's crew returning to their engine, nor their climb back into the cab.

"You don't even know what those half terms mean do you, child." The A4's tone was sickly sweet.

"No...but they do." The younger engine's fierce grin took Mallard aback, "I actually like you when you try Mallard, but I have to say I won't be the only one rooting for your cousin when the time comes. Maybe then the nice engine we occasionally glimpse will be out more often."

Star gave a sharp whistle as her driver advanced her regulator forward, and rolled proudly towards the sheds.

Mallards sat fuming for long moments then, "So they think they can take my record that easily do they? Maybe it's time I reminded them just what I'm capable of." The Pacific’s grin was just shy of bloodthirsty, looking more alive than she had since the LNER was still her owners.
