Brian Wilson (The Beach Boys) produced "Fire" on November 28, 1966 at Gold Star Studios with 15 session musicians, including three bassists, four flutists, and a string sextet. The track was arranged to evoke images of a conflagration and was recorded under unusual conditions. To help set the mood, Wilson instructed everyone in the studio to don a fire helmet, and had a bucket of burning wood placed in the recording space so that the area would smell of smoke.
Within a few days of the session, Wilson was frightened to learn that a nearby building had burned down shortly after the recording was made. He believed that the recording had somehow contributed to the fire and decided to shelve the track, as well as the rest of the Smile album, referring to it as "witchcraft music".

Chicago Fire Academy, Chicago, Illinois - Okay, so this was a pretty cool history stop! I had no idea when I went looking for the place where the Great Chicago Fire began, that I would find the Chicago Fire Academy! Now you may remember the old story about how the fire started, with Mrs. O'Leary's cow kicking over a lantern in the barn behind her house. Although that specific scenario may or may not be true (probably not), the origin of the conflagration was still traced back to this spot. The truth is that it had been a very dry year and several other fires also broke out across the Midwest that day. I think we can give poor Mrs. O'Leary and her cow the benefit of the doubt. Well it only seems fitting that in 1961, the Chicago Fire Academy opened its doors here in the very same spot where the blaze began! This monument symbolizes the blaze and reminds us of the importance of our local fire departments, as well as the men and women who put themselves in danger to prevent tragedies like this. Thank you! #MikeDoesHistory #history #education #travel #roadtrip #learn #adventure #memorial #monument #explore #discover #like #instagram #Chicago #chicagohistory #fire #firefighter #firedepartment #blaze #chicagofire #academy #oleary #cow #selfie #statue #historygram #instahistory #firedept #firefighters (at Great Chicago Fire) https://www.instagram.com/p/B2LSSdMjXJF/?igshid=3tug3kl8gkho
