Dueling Games - Rose Bride

When I see the actual gown Utena worn as Akio’s bride, it matches his lavender hair. This fact was proven in the series’ manga and anime. Although it indicates that Tenjou becomes another bride to be exploited by End of the World himself. The second gown would improve a different concept for an alternate timeline. Utena being indoctrinated into Akio’s culture through not the outfit, but the color itself. Himemiya’s bright red dress showcases her dark complexion, Tenjou’s crimson gown highlights her cool-toned skin. Visually, Utena appears as a Japanese girl getting married in an Indian wedding. While she wears the traditional gown, the dark shade of red helps her stand out. Since Tenjou is proud of being a girl, while not conforming to gender norms. It was a play on both Indian and Japanese culture. Representing the dueling forces like Akio and Utena.

This western lady named Jamie is engaged to an Indian, who in which she’s in love with. Jamie needs a certain lehenga to wear for a traditional Indian wedding, and the known color for it is bright red. While choosing which one to don officially, she realizes you need a tan skin to wear a bright red dress. This caused her to feel uncomfortable about it. Which was why Jamie chose a dark red to compliment her skin tone. I was inspired by her choice in lehenga, especially the color.

Akio’s a Lord of Rage. I haven’t really classpected the rest except for Saionji being a Bard.

Dueling Games - Rose Bride

Anthy is the Rose Bride of the Dueling Games. More accurately, she’s must be End of the World’s bride. Anthy is that of Indian-descent, seen wearing a bindi on her forehead. In a traditional Indian wedding, the groom wears white, while the bride bears bright red. Most members of the Student Council are dressed in the color white, contrasting to Utena’s black outfit. After Tenjou defeated Saionji, Himemiya outfit color changed the next duel. This never occurred before in the Dueling Games, since it makes this an anomaly. If Utena loses, the bride’s color changes back to bright red. From then on, Himemiya wears her pink gown throughout the series. Foreshadowing how the color pink had an effect on Anthy Himemiya herself. Both girls wearing contradictory colors in an opposing system placed by End of the World himself.

Medici Lions (pair of male lions) represents supremacy over the world, seen when its paw is resting upon an embroidered ball. Although there are Chinese Guardian lions consists of a male and female. For the lioness represents nurture, viewed when it’s restraining a playful cub on its back. Note that Ohtori Academy doesn’t have one because of the patriarchic system laid by Akio Ohtori, aka “End of the World”.

Dios is no longer Anthy’s prince, but Utena herself, her true champion. Though Utena wields the “Rose of Nobility”, drawn out by Akio himself, now faces him as her enemy. Akio employs the “Sword of Calyx” as his weapon, drawn out of Anthy. Their duel begins, though most of her duels are nothing but a game. This is actual combat at play, now locked in a dance of life and death.
