VIDEO ART EXPERIMENTATION

I adopted the same method as I did in most of my other video artworks. I combined various clips together and adjusted the opacity so they would all respectfully overlap each other.

I collected all the documentation I had of the beach and compiled various footage into three separate sections for the video. Chosen out of the 5 senses of the body, I deliberately themed each one to three senses...

This is a description of my artwork that explores the connection between myself and the ocean, especially the place where I grew up near the beach. I used different techniques to create three videos that capture different aspects of the ocean and its influence on me.

The first video shows how I interacted with the sand, creating various patterns with my hands. I wanted to express the tactile and playful experience of being on the beach. I overlaid this video with another one that shows the sand dunes and grass from a distance, contrasting the close-up and the landscape views.

The second video is a time-lapse of a sunrise over Mudjimba Island, a place that has a special meaning for me. I also included a shot of myself holding a nautilus shell to my ear, as if I were listening to the ocean sounds. This is a memory from my childhood that I wanted to revisit. In addition, I added some footage of manta rays swimming in the Great Barrier Reef, which I filmed during a diving trip. I wanted to show the beauty and diversity of the marine life that lives in the ocean.

The third video is a self-portrait reflecting the ocean shore's light and water. This video was made before the others, and it inspired me to create an ocean-themed artwork. I wanted to show how the ocean mirrors my emotions and identity and convey my poetic and romantic relationship with the ocean.

My goal was to convey my personal and poetic relationship with the ocean and this specific place where I spent my childhood. I considered leaving the artwork as it was, but I decided to add some calligraphy text to enhance the sensual and artistic quality of the work.
