Nearly four years ago, the Department of Homeland Security stated for the first time that domestic violent extremists, rather than foreign terrorists, had become “the most persistent and lethal threat” to the United States. The F.B.I.’s director later told a congressional committee that the primary threat came from adherents to “some kind of white-supremacist-type ideology.” When Joe Biden took office, shortly after the attack on the Capitol, he directed staff to draft the first-ever “National Strategy for Countering Domestic Terrorism,” which promised “a comprehensive approach to addressing the threat while safeguarding bedrock American civil rights and civil liberties.” But, in the intervening time, have we become any safer? In a riveting narrative from this week’s issue, David D. Kirkpatrick explores:
The limits that law-enforcement agencies face in going after potential homegrown terrorists, and how a growing number of amateur investigators and vigilantes—who make use of the latest technology and operate without the “protections, training, or restraints that come with a badge”—have stepped into the void.
How far-right groups often operate as multilevel-marketing schemes, in which members are incentivized to sell branded materials to an ever-growing number of recruits, effectively paying for their operations by amassing new members—even those who aren’t yet “fashed out,” meaning fully fascist.
Why the F.B.I. is reluctant to categorize extremists with terms such as “far right” or “white nationalist,” using instead much broader categories such as “domestic violent extremism,” “racially or ethnically motivated violent extremism,” and “anti-government or anti-authority violent extremism.”
The story of an operator with the code name Vincent Washington who infiltrated a white-nationalist organization called Patriot Front, and offered the trove of information he obtained to an online publication called Unicorn Riot, rather than to the police.

January 1987. Perhaps the quintessential '80s comic, the long-running Marvel G.I. JOE series is a loopy mixture of flag-waving American interventionism, shameless marketing hustle, mindless violence, berserk obsession with ninjas, and the lingering specter of the Vietnam War. Ideologically indefensible and remarkably silly, it's redeemed mainly (if barely) by longtime writer Larry Hama's streak of weird deadpan humor and flashes of genuine eccentricity.
It also stands as an unexpectedly prescient preview of a whole category of today's real-world villainy. The main bad guys in G.I. JOE are mostly a motley collection of grifters, opportunists, and mountebanks whose greed, ego, buffoonery, and backstabbing would be laughable if they were less heavily armed. Cobra Commander (deliberately never named or unmasked on panel) is a former used car dealer who's built a terrorist organization as one part multilevel marketing scam to two parts Libertarian/AnCap militia, with a philosophy that's pure Gordon Gekko. Destro is an old-money arms-dealing aristo who turns up his nose at the Commander's incoherent faux-populism and lunatic underlings, but not enough to not do business with them. Most of their named lieutenants are ridiculous bottom-feeders driven by petty grudges and the urge to talk big and dress up. No one ever accused this book of being sociopolitically astute, but almost any of its recurring villains could easily have a thriving political career today. What a world we live in …

Gastro Line’s Complete Guide to Kombidampers and Kjevlemaskiner in Norway
Introduction: Why Modern Norwegian Kitchens Trust Gastro Line
Norway’s food-service sector is booming—from Oslo’s Michelin-starred dining rooms to Bodø’s neighbourhood bakeries. Yet rising labour costs and demanding guests mean chefs need smarter equipment that delivers consistent results. Gastro Line, a leading supplier of premium catering technology, meets that need with two powerhouse categories:
Kombidamper (combi steam ovens) for cooking flexibility
Kjevlemaskin (dough sheeter) for flawless pastry, pizza, and flatbread production
This 1 200-word guide explains how each machine works, why it matters for Norwegian kitchens, and how Gastro Line tailors solutions that lift both food quality and bottom-line performance.
Understanding the Kombidamper: The All-in-One Oven Revolution

¶ … C-Sections Relative to Hospital Size A cesarean section, more commonly known as a C-section, is a surgical procedure in which a fetus is delivered via a hysterotomy rather than a more typical vaginal delivery procedure. There are many medical reasons why a c-section is necessary, although the geographic and demographic distribution of c-sections shows many trends in the prevalence of the procedure, indicating medical necessity is not the only reason that the surgery is performed. Affluence and medical availability and infrastructure have clear impacts on the rate and outcome of c-sections. In 2010, the World Health Organization estimated that on average, 10-15% of live births were via c-section, and the rate of c-sections in the United States, despite a rising popularity of alternative birthing methods (midwifes, home births, doulas, etc.), the c-sections have increased by 48% since 1996. While the size of hospitals studied when studying c-section outcomes has been noted, analysis is lacking on the data collected to determine c-section outcomes relative to the size of the hospital. What was the hypothesis? The hypothesis in the study by Kritchevsky et al., published in the American Journal of Obstetrics and Gynocology was that due to lack of standardized definitions and performance measurement systems, comparative study of c-sections across different hospitals was not fully possible. The study by Lagrew et al., was designed to examine delivery statistics obtained from a cesarean section reduction program conducted in a private hospital. The authors hypothesized that this program had been successful in reducing the number of c-sections within the hospital. A strong study (Chen et al. 2008) using a large sample number and thorough quantitative analysis could serve as a useful model for studying the impact of urbanization and population density upon the rate of cesarean deliveries. Are c-section deliveries, which are faster, seen more often in urban hospitals with a large demand for birthing space? A large-scale study in Taiwan published in 2007 examines association. The authors' hypothesized that there was a positive association between the degree of urbanization in Taiwan and the likelihood of a Cesarean section for the delivery of a single fetus. What study design was implemented (cohort, case control, cross-sectional etc.)? The study by Kritchevsky et al. (1996) looked at outcomes based on retrospective data abstraction of 200 deliveries at each of 15 acute care hospitals, including two foreign institutions. The second study (Lawgrew et al.) employed retrospective analysis of data obtained from a c-section reduction program conducted within the same institution. The third study was a retroactive analysis of 200,207 singleton deliveries in Taiwan using information from the Taiwan 2004 National Health Insurance Research Database. The urbanization level of the mother's home area was classified into 7 categories. The data was examined with a multilevel logistic regression model to show the assocation of urbanization with rate of c-section (Chen 2008). What are the types/classification of the variables? The Kritchevsky et al. (1996) study investigated the differences between hospitals' c-section data and compared adjusted and unadjusted risk rates in order to examine the differences between the various tools and measures each hospital individually uses for its internal data collection and analysis. The 2008 study by Chen et al. was a retroactive analysis of 200,207 singleton deliveries in Taiwan using information from the Taiwan 2004 National Health Insurance Research Database. The urbanization level of the mother's home area was classified into 7 categories. The data was examined with a multilevel logistic regression model to show the association of urbanization with rate of c-section. The explanatory variable was the rate of urbanization while the response variable was the likelihood of c-section delivery. The study by Lagrew et al. (1996) was designed to look at the change in c-section delivery rates over time. While the introduction of the new laboring guidelines employed by the hospital for the purposed of this study constitute a form of clinical trial, all persons in labor at the institution received the same care. The independent variable in this instance was on change over time, based on data collected in the months before and after the program was implemented. The group who received the newer standards of care were not concurrent to the group who had given birth prior to the new standards being implemented. This does introduce the lack of standardization around timing. Perhaps there were political, cultural or historical factors, which influenced the rate of c-section delivery beyond the effect of the hospital program being studied. A literature review published in a 2007 issue of Birth indicate that sociological and cultural factors were significant influential factors in women's stated preference for c-section deliveries (McCourt 2007). Given the spread of data over a 12-month period of time, it is entirely possible that various influential factors were more or less present in the two populations observed for this study. How were the variables operationalized? Figure 1 in the study (Kritchevsky et al. 1996) demonstrates the way in which the variables were operationalized by normalizing data using various instruments into a relatively comparable measure. The process of standardizing the measures assisted in defining the variables further by indicating the types and degree of difference between individual institution's measures. The variables in the Lagrew et al. (1996) study were easily operationalized due to the fact that this was a study that was done retrospectively to determine if the implemented changes had the desired effect on the rates of c-section deliveries in the hospital. The variables in the third study (Chen et al. 2008) were operationalized by deciding upon a 7 point scale of urbanization. The creation of categorical variables allowed for results ordered in an easily-understood gradient rather than using a more abstract instrument for measuring urbanization. The operationalization of c-section rates was in accordance with standard definitions used in published literature. Were the instruments validated (i.e. against measures obtained using a different instrument)? The retrospective data analysis methodology made validation in the study published by Krichevsky et al. 1996 impossible, as many different measures were used by the hospitals in the process of their own data collection. This article looking at hospital performance and Cesarean section rates looked explicitly at hospital sizes, among other criteria, focused predominantly on medium and large-sized medical facilities -- with an average of 537 beds -- in the United States. The size of the hospital can have some indication on the level of care provided at the facility, but smaller facilities specializing in neonatal care exist. This study was looking at facilities offering comprehensive medical services, but within the domain of tertiary medical services, more than half of the facilities studied had neonatal intensive care units. One of the complicating factors in comparing c-section outcomes between hospitals stemmed from differences in birth outcome coding procedures between hospitals, despite standard procedures established by the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (Kritchevsky 2008 288). The authors noted that there is "no national standardized specifications for calculating a Cesarean section rate (Kritchevsky 288)." The variations between hospitals in their indicators and coding systems resulted in the authors advocating for standardization in order to facilitate comparative judgments for which there is "widespread demand for external release of outcome data from hospitals to insurers, employers, legislators, consumer advocates, regulatory agencies, accrediting bodies and many others (Kritchevsky 290)." In the second study reviewed that was published in the same journal in 1996, the instruments were not validated, perhaps because the study (Lagrew et al. 1996) was designed to look at the potential for non-mandated clinical changes impacting the c-section rate in one particular private hospital. This was not a comparative study with another institution or population. The hypothesis was, in the authors' eyes, proven by the statistical analysis of the data using a solitary measurement. In the study done by Chen et al. In 2008 on Taiwanese births, a singular instrument was used in this study, the multilevel logistic regression model. The regression model was adjusted for demographic factors that could have had an impact on the data by presenting outliers, however References Chen, Chin-Shyan et al. (2008). How to Reduce LED Display Light Pollution?
Email: [email protected]
WhatsApp & Wechat: +86 18038197291
www.xygledscreen.com
LED display is extensively used in display-related industries such as outdoor advertising because of its advantages including high luminance, wide viewing angle and long life. However, the high luminance leads to light pollution, which is a defect of LED display. The light pollution caused by LED display is internationally divided into three categories: white light pollution, artificial daytime and color light pollution. Light pollution prevention of LED display should be taken into consideration during the design process.
Causes Of Light Pollution Of LED Display
First of all, in order to prevent and control light pollution, let’s summarize the causes of its formation, generally for the following reasons:
1. The LED display is so large in area that it blocks the observer’s view like a curtain or a wall. The closer the observer stands to the screen, the larger the substantial angle, formed by observer’s stand point and the screen, is, or the more convergent the direction of observer’s sight and the screen’s orientation are, the more serious the light interference the screen makes.
2. The over-commercialism of LED display’s contents provokes people’s rejection.
3. Observers with different genders, ages, professions, physical conditions and mental conditions will have different levels of feelings on interference light. For example, those who are often exposed to photosensitizer and patients with eye diseases are more sensitive to light.
4. The high luminance of LED display glaring in the dim environment leads to people’s inadaptation to partial brightness. An LED display with a luminance output of 8000cd per square meter in the dark night will result in severe light interference. Since there are significant difference lying in the illumination of daytime and nighttime, an LED display with invariable luminance will radiate different levels of interference light over time.
5. Fast-changing images on the screen will lead to eye irritation, and so do high-saturation colors and stiff transition.
Solution To Light Pollution Caused By LED Display
The luminance of LED display is the major cause of light pollution. Following safety protection methods are conducive to solving light pollution problem efficiently.
1. Adopt self-adjustable luminance-regulating system
We know that the luminance of the environment varies greatly from day to night, from time to time and from place to place. If LED display luminance is 60% greater than ambient luminance, our eyes will feel uncomfortable. In other words, the screen pollutes us. Outdoor luminance acquisition system keep collecting ambient luminance data, according to which the software of display screen control system automatically work out the appropriate screen luminance. Research shows that, when human eyes are used to the ambient luminance of 800cd per square meter, the luminance range that human eyes be able to see is from 80 to 8000cd per square meter. If object’s luminance is beyond the range, the eyes need several seconds’ adjustment to gradually see it.
2. Multilevel grayscale correction technique
The control system of ordinary LED displays has a color depth of 8bit so that the low gray level colors and color transition areas look rigid. This also result in the maladjustment of color light. However, the control system of new LED displays has a 14bit color depth that significantly improves color transition. It makes colors subdued and prevent people from feeling the light uncomfortable when looking at the screen. Learn more about the grayscale of LED display here.
3. Appropriate installation site and reasonable screen area planning
There should be an experience-oriented plan based on the connection between viewing distance, viewing angle and screen area. Meanwhile, there are specific design requirements for viewing distance and viewing angle due to image study. An LED display should be reasonably designed, and those requirements should be met as much as possible.
4. Content selection and design
As a kind of public media, LED displays are used to show information including public service announcements, advertises and instructions. We should screen contents that meet the demand of public to avoid their rejection. This is also an important aspect in combating light pollution.
5. Present luminance adjustment standard
The severe light pollution caused by outdoor displays are too bright and affects the lives of the surrounding residents to some extent. Therefore, the relevant departments should issue LED display luminance adjustment standards to strengthen light pollution control. The owner of the LED display is required to actively adjust display’s luminance output according to the ambient luminance, and high-brightness output in the dark night is strictly forbidden.
6. Reduce blue-ray output
Human eyes have different visual perception towards different wavelengths of light. Since complex human perception towards light cannot be measured with “brightness”, irradiance index can be introduced as the criterion for safe visible light energy. Human feelings toward blue-ray cannot be taken as the sole criterion in measuring light’s effect on human eyes. Irradiance measuring equipment should be introduced and it will collect data to response the influence of blue light output intensity on visual perception. The manufacturers ought to reduce blue-ray output while ensuring the screen’s display functions, in order to avoid doing harm to human eyes.
7. Light distribution control
Effective control of light pollution caused by LED display needs reasonable arrangement of the light from the screen. To avoid hard light in partial area, the light radiated by LED display should be spread evenly in visual field. It requires strict restriction on the direction and scale of light exposure in the production process.
8. Express safety protection method
Safety precautions should be marked on the operating instructions of LED display products, focusing on the correct adjustment of screen luminance and the harm that may be caused by looking at the LED screen for a long time. If the automatic luminance adjustment system runs out of order, the brightness can be adjusted manually. In the meantime, safety measures against light pollution shall be popularized to the public so as to enhance their self-protection ability. For instance, one cannot stare at the screen for a long time and need to avoid focusing on the details on the screen, otherwise the light of LED will focus on the eye ground and form bright spots, and sometimes it will lead to retinal burn.
9. Improve product performance and quality
In order to ensure the performance of LED display products, it is necessary to step up the test of products’ luminance in the indoor and outdoor environment. During the indoor process, testing personnel have to watch the display at close range to see if there are any problems with the details, wearing dark sunglasses with brightness attenuation of 2 to 4 times. While in the outdoor process, the brightness attenuation should be 4 to 8 times. Testing personnel must wear safety guards to carry out the test, especially in the dark, to be kept away from hard light.

Nobody suggested anything so let me just include what I have been using to scratch this itch recently:
What Makes This Song Stink: Category music haterade. Punching-up version, taking on songs that are both terrible and inexplicably everywhere, the most obnoxious combination. This is a Youtube channel by a guy who doesn't really like Youtube and is mostly mocking the entire format while also mocking bad music. Multilevel hating. But it's also not quite right to call this laconic philly guitarist a hater. He's definitely irritated by and contemptuous of the songs he covers but he also takes such glee in breaking them down and riffing on the bands involved that you have to suspect he also has a secret fondness for them. It's an ultimately good-natured exercise in music theory and love of music with increasingly weird tangents into hot tubs and Hotstepper and did I mention it's hilarious? This is a comedy channel?
I also want to mention that Pat Finnerty is a Gen Xer like me so he's particularly interested in 90s rock music, adjust your expectations accordingly.
As far as episodes I'm particularly fond of the Weezer episode and the Hey Soul Sister episode, but honestly the best approach is to pull up the channel and pick out the song you loathe the most and sit back and enjoy.
As I have matured I have done my best to put snark away and not create feelings of superiority by making fun of dumb people, be more of a lover than a hater, but god dammit, the world is falling apart and total idiots have grabbed the wheel and are driving us off a cliff. I am a Gen Xer and my default stress response is mockery. I'm going back to my roots. I want to indulge in something really mean and sarcastic. I need some snide takedowns. A really thorough fisking. I want to see a total moron totally destroyed. Short of time traveling to the early-aughts blogosphere this style has largely gone out of fashion for sane people on the internet but is there a video channel or podcast you can recommend right now? Hatewatch, Hateread, Hatelaugh? Feed my inner hater.

I am here to request more Mormon facts🎤
Your wish is my command! I'll even sort them into categories for you.
Amusing:
The fact that there weren't horses in the Americas until European settlers has caused serious problems for their claims that their book is historically accurate.
This has led some to speculate that when the book says "horses" it means "tapirs."
All Mormon men think they're Paladins: at age 12, every amab person is inducted into their priesthood which is supposed to literally bestow on them the power to do miracles in the name of God as long as they are acting in accordance with God's will and living righteously.
They make a big deal of their "sacred secrets" in the temples, mostly so the members don't find out that they're just masonic rituals with the serial numbers shaved off.
Actually their whole structure is basically just a more bizarre version of the masons.
Their mythology makes free will impossible (something I figured out when I was 12, much to the consternation of my youth group leaders)
They believe that the righteous (men) will eventually become Gods and get to start their own universes.
Their supposedly eternal and absolute rules about what constitutes modest dress have nevertheless semi-consistently been updated to keep up with contemporary fashion.
Less funny:
Salt Lake City, Utah, is an unbelievable hotbed of multilevel marketing schemes. Women trapped at home keep getting into them. I guess if you're caught up in one, it's easy to buy into another...
They're well known for community support within their group, but the Church itself is an international multi-billion dollar organization and never gives significant aid to members.
Everyone in the church is required to pay 10% of their (pre-tax) earnings directly to the church.
Every young man in the church is required to serve a 2 year, volunteer mission. They have to fund these themselves.
Church leadership is supposedly called by divine revelation, yet somehow they're almost all from the same enclave of families whose roots trace back to the founders of the church.
My youth group leader once tried to tell me that rock music was spiritually bad and instead I should be listening to musicals and opera. Because the lyrical content was more spiritually pure.
They're in the "we are fighting a literal war against the Forces of Evil" category of evangelicals, but it was to my immense disappointment that this did not mean there were any sexy demons around.
If they took their own morals seriously, they'd all be communists.
Not Remotely Funny:
The church has a truly massive endowment, and their fingers are in a lot of corporate and political pies.
When California was voting on gay marriage back on 2008, the church organized a concerted effort of members buying property in the state so they could vote against it.
Seriously, I cannot stress enough to you how much money and influence the church has. They just don't wave it around as much as some groups.
Joe Smith and his successor, Brigham Young, were pedophiles who used their church doctrine to force teenage girls to marry them.
They're one of the groups that believe peace in the Middle East is a harbinger of the apocalypse.
Yes, they really are that racist.
They encourage members to adopt Native children in order to "save them" from the curse of their ancestors.
They have one of the largest genealogical databases in the world, and they mostly use it to perform proxy baptisms on dead people, including massive numbers of holocaust victims.
Their culture normalizes and even valorizes child abuse by men. All of the most respected men in my congregation growing up regularly beat their kids. This was considered normal and even funny.
Abuse and bullying are rampant for young men on missions.
They're also ableist in the weirdest way. They believe that everyone's soul is a "perfected" version of their body, see. Any neurodivergent or mentally disabled people are "normal" souls trapped in defective bodies.
BYU (the church-owned university) has a rampant problem with suicides among queer students.
Utah has one of the highest rates of depression in the country, especially among women.
