“BHHOOOUUUURRRrrrp… gffhahhHUUURRRP… ghlkkKHHRRRRUUUP…” Maho sat back on her chair, a sweat stained shirt turned barely bra only barely keeping her decent, the 518th hotdog in her right hand, her left cleaning mustard from her sweat covered chest.

When she heard the previous world record was 74 hotdogs, it irritated her, that was a light snack, and so, despite having eaten for hours and feeling quite full, Maho decided to shatter the record sevenfold, and yet, staring at the final hotdog, Maho felt nauseous, it was so monotonous and dull, the unchanging palette overwhelming her, but in spite of that fact, her belly growled, 517 hotdogs failed to sufficiently fill the blobby girl up.

Her cheeks flushed, and she felt greed and pride bubble inside her, ravenously, Maho shoved the hotdog into her mouth, moaning in pleasure and happiness.

“Ghngh… hffahh… sho fhull… ghffahh… sho fhull… but… hahh… sho hungry… hff… hard to get fhull…” Maho lamented contradictorily, groping her enormous belly, her disgust of past replaced with love and adoration, the hesitation she felt before melting into motivation, she was already half a ton, already too fat, but she wanted more, to be hungrier, weaker, greedier, unhealthier.

Maho groaned in discomfort, and suddenly remembered she actually had something even more slovenly…

Leaning to her left as much as she could, she reached to a gift courtesy of Rei, for when she truly passed the point of no return, pressing it to her lips, she began to chug, not allowing herself to rest until the gift was emptied, all six gallons of it: Fryer Oil, 198,000 calories drank in two minutes…

Maho dropped the jug, gasping and groaning, it hurt, she wanted to throw up, she felt dizzy and nauseated and heavier than ever, and she couldn’t be happier…

“Hff… I’ll… bghlk… hff… nghhlk… shtart dhrinking… NGHLK-…ghlkff… theshe every day…”

Listen, I understand why Suite isn't a popular season. Generally speaking, the best parts of it are generally done better in the two seasons that precede it. It in many ways is just a weaker frankensteining of Fresh and Heartcatch. But Fresh and Heartcatch are fantastic, so just because it's worse than those seasons, doesn't mean its bad in my opinion. And to be fair, it does deserve many of its criticisms.

But it's also one of my favorite seasons, and I think some of it's criticisms are more a matter of taste. There's just a lot I love about Suite.

Hibiki and Kanade

I also know a lot of people aren't huge fans of the whole fighting thing Hibiki and Kanade have going on. And I agree, it's not the best executed and some things don't make sense. I also understand that many people are not fond of the vitriolic best buds trope, but I don't think that makes their relationship inherently bad just not to everyone's taste. For what it's worth, we haven't had a pair of cures like them before and since and it's a tragedy to me personally because I am quite fond of vitriolic best buds, duo cures and childhood friends. We have so many cure duos and aside from these two, none are childhood friends. The CLOSEST is the fact that Saki and Mai met once, when they were 9. Several trios of childhood friends (Fresh, Doki Doki and Happiness Charge), but they're the only true childhood friend duo. I honestly want more cures like these two. They get the learning to understand each other that the new friendships have, with the wealth of intimate knowledge about each other stemming from their childhood friendship. Despite spending a year "apart", the years they spent together still mean something, and they can't seem to stay away. They're mad at each other but there is still a comfortable familiarity in the way they aren't afraid to fight with each other. They say they aren't friends but they still call each other by first name.

Their hearts naturally fall into perfect harmony. The have like the same sense of style. Kanade likes to bake. Hibiki likes to eat. Souta refers to Hibiki as "Hibiki-Nee-san", and otherwise treats her similarly to his own sister. They have a flashlight code that they use to communicate across town at night. Neither one realized that there are two entrances with Sakura trees at their middle school or tried to talk about it for a whole year. They're both so stupid.

They take after Nagisa and Honoka a lot too. Nagisa and Hibiki are both athletic redheads who are good at sports and have black as a main color in one of their outfits (Cure for Nagisa, Civ for Hibiki), and generally use pink in their outfits. Both like to eat. Both can be prone to grumpiness and disagreements with their family members. Honoka and Kanade are both white Cures with fierce tempers and a strong sense of responsibility, able to handle domestic things like cooking. Both have more academic strengths, but are relatively graceful. There are some twists of course, Kanade has the little brother who she bickers with (their little brother's even both end their name with "ta"), Hibiki is the one with a parent who is often abroad. I really like how the two called back to the original duo without at all feeling like a copy.

To be fair not communicating is the name of the game in Suite. And so, I do 100% understand not liking this plot. I really do understand it. It's more than fair. All of the plots basically revolve around miscommunication. That is like. The entirety of Suite. Miscommunications, and the breakdown and subsequent healing of relationships. A very very valid complaint. One that I can overlook, but understand if others cannot.

Siren and Hummy

So, Precure's second heel-face turn Cure (if we don't count the Kiryuu sisters). She's a shapeshifting cat who can sing. The original one.

While normally I dislike the "Brainwashed to be evil" trope. It can be very effective. Go Princess used it to great effect in which there was a level of tragedy to the years that had been stolen away from Towa, and how her motivations had been twisted. I think it has similar effect here, where we kind of get both. She was brainwashed, and I do think that does cheapen Siren's motivations and redemption a bit, but she also had genuinely negative feelings towards Hummy, that she acted on in refusing to practice with Hummy. She still has to face Hummy head on, and as much as she tries to pretend that she's hard and strong enough to live in her bitterness. Siren isn't actually mean enough to keep facing her friend and betray her over and over again.

Hummy being better at singing than her caused her to lose a piece of her identity. The most important singer in all of Majorland. The one who sings the melody of happiness. So Siren doubles down on that identity. She becomes Minorland's singer. But she also, due to her shapeshifting, spends that time adopting different identities. Testing things out, even if she doesn't realize it. Ultimately she has to completely let go of her old identity (losing access to her original form) and everything associated with it and forge a new sense of self, in order to find happiness. But she doesn't completely lose everything.

Despite not liking to be called Siren anymore, she still lets Hummy call her that. She turned her old identity of Siren into something bitter, so she had to cast it off to redefine herself. But Hummy is the only one who ever saw the real Siren through everything Siren tried to become. Hummy may have been the one who took her sense of worth, but she's also the one who always saw Siren's value as Siren. Hummy gets to use Siren because her relationship with Hummy is the only thing that survived Siren's evolution. The two have to forge a new relationship to a certain extent. But it's built on what came before.

I also just think it's fun that the bulk of this emotional arc is on Hummy. It's cat drama. Fairy drama. Usually this is the kinda of stuff that happens between the pink and the heel-face cure. But not this time. This time it's the cat fairy, and the pink is dealing with her own friendship drama. I think it also ties right back into Suites continued echo of healing relationships, actually listening to people in order to harmonize with them. Hibiki and Kanade have to resolve their bitter feelings from their estrangement. Siren has to get over her jealousy to let Hummy back into her life. And Mephisto and Aphrodite have to stop fighting a war against each other.

Major Land's Royal Family

I mean really, no one bothered to tell Hibiki and Kanade at any point that Mephisto was the brainwashed former King of Major Land and that Major Land had a princess who was in hiding? Just locked out of the loop. Both Kanon and Majorland are entirely made up of people who can't communicate.

Anyway, Ako is my all time favorite cure. I rather unpopular choice, I know. But she fits right in with many of my other favorites, characters such as Hikari Yagami, Takeru Takaishi, King Clawthorne, King Ezran, Anya Forger etc. I love kid characters. I especially love messed up traumatized kids who don't always deal with it in great ways. And kid characters with heaps of responsibility on their shoulders. Like chosen ones and royalty.

So Ako is the epitome of what I look for in my favorite characters. She's a 9 year old with high future expectations, that she can't even begin to try and live up to because she's been sent away from everything she's known and loved. Not just moving to a new town, but a new world, where the rules of what is and isn't normal are different. In addition she was forced into physically altering her appearance, wearing unfamiliar clothes, and cutting her long hair. Not only that, she now has to keep everything about her secret. Her hometown, whatever music magic she has, her real future career plans, everything that made her her, has to be suppressed and kept secret. And she was like. Six. That's tiny. And she has to construct a whole new fake identity?

No wonder she's grumpy and keeps to herself? Her alternative is just trying to keep up a bunch of lies all the time. And keeping to herself, means few friends, and trying to keep people away, because this is supposed to be temporary to some degree. She has back home eventually, she's their future queen. She really has no choice BUT to be a grumpy brat. To keep from getting found out and to keep from getting attached. Like sure she doesn't have to be a brat to Hibiki and Kanade, but she's kinda right half the time, and honestly her tempering that brattiness into being just unpleasant enough to be left alone without being so obnoxious she draws people's ire involves way more socio-emotional intelligence than should ever be expected from a nine year old. And at a certain point, after years of it, it became part of her real personality. The sweet optimistic little princess is still there. But it's under a layer of cynicism.

Ako wants her family back. So she gets the power to do that. And things still don't go her way.

I've joked to people before that Ako is one of 4 cures with divorced parents. Her parents are effectively divorced, but extra. They're not just trying to fight over a house and custody of her, but over not just an entire kingdom, but the fate of the world. And her father doesn't even know who she is anymore. Her parents are actively at war, and her mother honestly shows no qualms about letting her husband be potentially killed, not bothering to tell the people she's sent after him about their relationship and his true nature. (And then her mom asks Mephisto to kill her to protect their kingdom, Ako can't catch a break).

This ties back to a fact that is kind of brushed over in the show. Ako is the princess. In the show she's honestly just the princess because it puts her in between Mephisto and Aphrodite's drama. But we see in show that Mephisto and Aphrodite are constantly putting their kingdom's needs above their own. A- monarchs (points deducted for getting brainwashed), but like. B- parents tbh. They love Ako so, so much, but simply can't raise her themselves. In fact, Ako's parents won't look after themselves, so Ako has to look out for them instead of the other way around. We see this a lot with Mephisto.

Sometimes Ako makes absolutely stupid decisions, like releasing notes, because she doesn't want to go against her dad, even if he isn't himself right now. Because she's a child whose parents are fighting, seemingly to the death, and if she can spread out the fight, she can hopefully drag out the arrival of consequences.

Ako does eventually learn to use the power as a cure, so she can balance the needs of the many over the needs of her loved ones. So she can do both. But she has to learn to make the hard choices and be willing to stand against her loved ones.

Also Ako also gets the miscommunication based friendship breakdown with her and Suzu, and to a lesser extent her and Souta in the movie. Suite really goes hard on the whole healing relationships thing.

Ako is really a direct foil to Yuri who precedes her. Missing evil brainwashed dads. Present throughout the whole show, but only join the team in the last quarter (the latest of any Cures). Semi-awkward friendship with one of the other cure's siblings in part because their friend doesn't know about all their magical girl trauma. Already looped into the magical girl stuff before any of the other cures, so has a preexisting relationship of some sort with the grandparent mentor. Ako is pretty much just a baby Yuri, but who has just now gained the power to try and fight after years of inability to do anything, instead of having just lost her power, and having to face down her own failure and keep going. So she's an angry elementary kid rather than a depressed high schooler. How can I not love her?

CROSSCANONS: Is your mom voiced by a Precure? (Precure x Love Live)

Upon confirmation of Yukana being another Precure veteran to voice a mom in the Love Live to one of the school idols (Lanzhu, of all people), it reminds me of the other Precure seiyuus who lent their voices to other Love Live mothers.

Honoka Kousaka

Honoka's mom is voiced by Masumi Asano (Minami Kaido/Cure Mermaid). Asano still had credit for the LL! movie, when Go! Princess Precure was midway through the season.

Kotori Minami

Believe it or not, Kotori's mother is voiced by a well-known voice actress [Noriko Hidaka] who had a supporting role in the Precure franchise. In Suite Precure, Hidaka played Aphrodite, Cure Muse's mother. Kinda fitting, don't you think?

Maki Nishikino

Maki's mother, voiced by Kikuko Inoue, has a few roles in Precure, but Benigyo (from Maho Tsukai) is the most well-known of the three.

Nico Yazawa

(I have to mention her or else I'd be punished in the name of the moon. No, literally. Nico's mom is voiced by Kotono Mitsuishi.)

Mitsuishi provides the voice of Hummy, the mascot from Suite Precure.

Eli Ayase

While her mother is never seen in the series, her grandmother makes an appearance. She is voiced by Fumi Hirano, who had a minor role in Star Twinkle Precure (that being Lala's mother).

Chika Takami

Rie Kugimiya voices Chika's mother, who previously was involved with DokiDoki! Precure as Madoka Aguri/Cure Ace and the Yes! Precure 5 movie as Dark Lemonade.

Riko Sakurauchi

Riko's mother is voiced by singer and voice actress, Nana Mizuki. Prior to Sunshine, she was Tsubomi Hanasaki/Cure Blossom in Heartcatch! Precure.

Yohane Tsushima

Yohane's mother, voiced by Hekiru Shiina, also voices Madoka's mother in Star Twinkle Precure.

Mari Ohara

Mari's mother is voiced by Akiko Yajima. In Futari wa Precure, she is credited as Mipple, Honoka's partner.

Setsuna Yuki

The voice behind Setsuna Yuki's mother, Ryoko Shiraishi, had a minor role in both Smile Precure and Heartcatch! Precure.

Kanata Konoe

Yuko Minaguchi provided the voice for Kanata's mother. She was the seiyuu behind both Dark Mint in the Yes! Precure 5 movie and Flora from Yes! Precure 5 GoGo.

Lanzhu Zhong

As mentioned in the beginning of this post, Lanzhu's mother has been confirmed to be voiced by Yukana. She is best known as Honoka Yukishiro/Cure White in Futari wa Precure.

Kanon Shibuya

Kanon's mother is played by Mamiko Noto, who also voiced Ayumi Sakagami/Cure Echo in the Precure All Stars New Stage movies.

Ren Hazuki

Ren's mother is voiced by Aya Endo. She also voiced Tenjo in Star Twinkle Precure.

Kinako Sakurakoji

Ikue Otani, the voice behind Candy from Smile Precure, is credited as Kinako's mother.

D4DJ Voice Actor's and Headcanon Voice Actors.

This will be a little different than my usual VA headcanon posts because this will actually feature both canon AND headcanon VA's from this series.

The only instance where D4DJ has been dubbed in English is the first season of the anime, which primarily featured Happy Around, Peaky P-Key and Photon Maiden, and while the other units made cameos and had voiced scenes, they didn't really get the spotlight. I wanted to include all the characters in the post though, because I very quickly fell in love with this series and the storylines, and characters sing to me, pun not intended.

So this is kind of a roundup of the voice actors of the characters in English, as well as who I think would voice the characters who DON'T appear in English. The rules are the same as ever.

sorry but the amount of complaints about the lack of kissing/action in cherry maho’s final episode is soooo unfair, when you consider the overall tone of the show, japanese society, the tv network’s history w BL shows and how the show is basically PG in the first place it makes complete sense they wouldn’t show the final kiss. attacking the screenwriter and actors is just so immature and we should thank them for making such a great show in the first place is all 🥺

Ciel: I can’t believe this.

Ha-chan: I think it’s a good idea!

The curtain parts to reveal the inside of Ciel’s patisserie. Many perfectly delectable holiday themed dishes strewn about the table, yet she herself does not looked pleased in the least. She has a small pad in one hand and a pen in the other, writing and scribbling every few seconds. You start to wonder how her hat manages to stay perfectly balanced with how big it looks and how much she’s fidgeting, before she gives a long exasperated sigh.

Ciel: (defeatedly) It's no use. No matter what I do, I can’t get them perfect enough. That last one was definitely too tart! (another sigh) And it’s our first Christmas too.

She slumps over and puffs her cheeks out in defiance, again you wonder about the hat. Just how?!

Ciel: (suddenly brightens up like a light bulb just turned on in her head) I have an idea.

The prodigy goes back to excitedly scribbling in her pad. It’s at this point in time you noticed something odd begin to happen slightly behind her and out of her line of sight. At first, it just looks like a crack suddenly appeared on the wall. Then, it becomes a line. Slowly, it becomes larger and begins to curve and form a shape. It’s...a door...A door simply appeared out of nowhere. How could this be, you wonder.

Good thing you didn’t have to wonder long, for as soon as it appears, the knob turns, revealing a very cheery looking girl with pink hair, wearing Christmas themed clothes and a Santa hat with the biggest looking white fluff ball at the end. Something in her hand looks to be glowing, but you can’t make out what it is because of the brightness. Her eyes scan the room and land on Ciel standing behind a large curved table. Quickly making her way over, she taps the prodigy’s shoulder.

Ciel: (startled she turns around quick as a flash) Bibury, I told you not t—...

Ha-chan: (unfazed she tilts her head): Who’s Bibury?

Ciel: Bibury is my (she looks behind the intruder towards the door where she sees the lock still firmly in place) friend. (back toward the intruder) In any case, who are you and how did you get in here?

Ha-chan: Ha-chan! And I got in with my magic! (She proceeds to raise the hand where the glow was in front of her to show the other girl. That’s when you realized what she had in her hand was a stick. More precisely, a wand.)

Ciel: (stares in disbelief at the wand) Your magic? 

Ha-chan: Yup, I used it to make that door over there. (She points towards the door in question.)

Ciel: (stares in disbelief at the door) Why?

Ha-chan: I dunno. Something compelled me to do it.

Ciel: Something compelled you?

Ha-chan: Yeah, like, it feels like something is controlling me and making me do things, and that’s why I’m here. (And yet, she sounds so happy for not having any control.)

Ciel: I suppose that makes sense...

Ha-chan: I hope so, I really don’t have any other explanation.

Ciel: You wouldn’t have happened to have seen my friend when you came in, did you? (She looks around for the familiar mint hair.)

Ha-chan: No, I haven’t. What does she look like?

Ciel: Like the walking personification of sass.

Ha-chan: (eyes widen) You know my mommy, Liko!?

Ciel: Who?

Ha-chan: (smiles nervously) Oh, you meant someone else, never mind. Say, what are you doing hunched over a table anyway? (She peeks around behind Ciel and her mouth opens wide in a huge grin, her eyes sparkle.) Oh my gosh, these look so good! (She reaches out for a rather fruity looking dish in the hopes of tasting some before her hand is swatted away) Ouch!

Ciel: You can’t just reach out and try someone's sweets all willy-nilly like that, especially when you didn’t ask first.

Ha-chan: But they look so good.

Ciel: Non non non. Thank you for the compliment, but they aren’t ready. I still can’t get them to taste right. (She nods to the one Ha was about to try.) That one was the last one I made; it came out way too tart. 

Ha-chan: (eyed the treat sadly for a moment before brightening up) Maybe I can help you?

Ciel: (cautiously) Help how?

Ha-chan: (waves her wand around) With my magic!

Ciel: (curiously) Are you gonna magically make it taste better?

Ha-chan: Well, no, but I can help you come up with ideas and magic stuff up that you need.

Ciel: (still curious enough) What sort of idea do you have?

Ha-chan: Well... (looks around at the assortment another time) All of these look "too" good

Ciel: They look too good?

Ha-chan: Yeah, like, you know what Christmas is about right?

Ciel: Like spending time with family?

Ha-chan: Yeah, and presents!

Ciel: (chuckles) What does that have to do with sweets though?

Ha-chan: Well, Christmas is made up of a bunch of small, simple things. Why not make something like that?

Ciel: (considers it for a moment as she taps her chin with her pencil) I have a friend who does that. She mixes an animal with a sweet, and the end design is so simplistic yet their always filled with so much kirakiraru

Ha-chan: Huh, kirakiraru?

Ciel: It’s like... the feelings inside the sweets.

Ha-chan: Ohhhh! Sweets have feelings.

Ciel: No, it's not the sweets, it’s of the people who made them. (she considers the idea the girl had again) Well, maybe something like... (she writes a few things in her notepad) Think you could magic me a few items?

Ha-chan: (looks pleased to be able to help and holds her wand in both hands) Sure. What do you need?

Ciel: (reads off from her notepad while continuing to write) A pint of mint chocolate ice cream, a slice of chocolate cake, and a checkered cookie. I have the rest of the stuff I need here.

Ha-chan: Coming right up! CureUp Rapapa! (She twirls her wand and it glows with magic. Soon enough Ciel has all the items she needs.)

Ciel starts by placing a cube shaped glass in the center of her ingredients, then proceeds to take a few scoops of the ice cream and drops them into the glass. Next, she takes pieces of the cake and starts molding each into a shape as if it were clay.  She ended up with two small spheres and a large one about thrice the size of one of the small. Ciel places them carefully one by one, the two smaller spheres are stuck into the edges of the glass and the larger one on top, like a small animal poking it’s head. After that she takes three pieces of dark chocolate chips, so as not to be the same as the cake, and places them on the larger sphere as eyes and a nose. Whipped cream is then dabbed onto the sides of the "head" as ears and once on the head where she places a strawberry that she tops with a small dab of whipped cream like a fluffy ball of a hat. A Santa hat. Lastly, she takes the checkered cookie, puts a light piece of ribbon around it and ties it like a gift before placing it in the glass next to the adorable "creature".

Ciel: (finishes off with a flourish) Parfait!

Ha-chan: (giggles with awe after watching Ciel work) What’s that?

Ciel: Parfait, perfect

Ha-chan: (nods in agreement) It really is parfait then

They both proceed to laugh while Ciel happily admires her simple yet adorable creation.

Happy 18th anniversary to Futari wa Precure and the Precure franchise! FWPC premiered on the 1st of February, 2004 and Precure has been on air mostly continuously ever since, amassing 73 main cures across 19 seasons and 30 movies, with more to come yet! We’ll hit 100 cures by the 25th anniversary.

[#SoulOfYokai] Halloween 2021: The Tiger and the Dragon

Well, well, well, my favorite holiday has arrived!!! 🎃👻

This time and after 4 long years, I have decided to change the characters for my commemorative drawing. So here are Hayato, the Hanyō, from the otome game "Soul of Yokai" with my MC, Maho Ishinomori, dressed up as tiger and dragon, animal representations of the Yin Yang 🐯🐉☯️

Originally, Maho was going to be a normal orange tiger, but I decided to change her to a white tiger, since Hayato had to be a red dragon yes or yes, so the costumes were going to be too similar in color. Plus Maho loves white tigers so it's a bonus 🤍🖤

And well, I don't know what else to say, this year I wasn't going to do any Halloween drawings due to lack of inspiration and ideas, besides personal issues, but at the last minute "the muse" visited me and here we are. Of all the years, this has been the most spooky and halloweeny in my house, thanks to my bro @skylightoficial and, honestly, I love it!!! 🥰🤩
