The tokenization of music royalties means that artists will be able to create NFTs based on their creations and resell or give them away to fans. For young musicians the system looks especially attractive as it allows you to receive additional funds for career development.

Lado Okhotnikov, founder of Meta Force, expresses his sincere hope for the development of this direction,

“My team and I are doing our best to ensure that program participants can use NFT to the maximum. There is very little time left before the end of the transition to version 3, and all owners of status tokens who have made the transition will receive bonuses. It should be noted that we did not start the distribution until we made sure that important issues were resolved and controversial situations were settled.”

If NFT holders decide to sell their tokens they can do so on the official website of the company or on the secondary market. This will allow you to easily share your rights to a song with other users and possibly benefit from an increase in the value of the NFT if the demand for it grows.

“Such a tokenization system will enable copyright holders to receive passive income and give an additional chance for investors and NFT collectors,” summed up Lado.

In the era of digital, you wonder why traditional radio is still important. The truth is whether it is satellite, digital app or am/fm transmission the broadcast medium is still essential in the economics of the music. The digital era is currently shrinking the earnings of an individual artist and the master owner who owns a bit of catalogue. Currently the New York Stock Exchange listed streaming service @Spotify pays a minimum of 0,006 per stream. So even if you are on top of their chart streaming at a total of 7 386 979, your earnings would be around $44 321,87 (R 679 827,04). So the master owner would still make more money in countries where communication to public for masters is granted (needle time), such as South Africa. @sampra_rsa and @aircosa are the two collection societies for such right on behalf of master owners and artists (inclusive of featured artist). With the rise of content, and the growth of the broadcasting industry whether it is on an app, satellite or traditional transmission there would still be the growth that is evident, at least for a while, for airplay that impacts your bottom line. Streaming will continue going into an upward stream for consumers to use. However, in Africa, traditional radio remains the number one source of entertainment in cars. In the next few years if you want to break the market clearly you need presence on the internet and traditional medium. Een ‘controlled composition’ is een auteursrechtelijke compositie die wordt beheerd door de auteur, die tevens artiest is. Je komt een controlled composition clause vaak tegen in (Amerikaanse) platencontracten. Het belangrijk om te weten waar deze clausule op toeziet, omdat het namelijk meestal een beperking van je inkomsten is. . Ok, een stapje terug: de vorige 2 posts gingen over #mechanicals en de #statutoryrate. Mechanicals (ofwel je mechanische reproductierechten) zijn de auteursrechten die je hebt om toestemming te verlenen voor de verveelvoudiging van jouw muziekwerk. Het label moet dit aan de rechthebbende betalen. Dat kan de rechthebbende zelf zijn, diens publisher of diens collectieve beheersorganisatie zoals #Stemra of The Harry Fox Agency. De statutory rate is de vastgestelde vergoeding die je in Amerika voor de verveelvoudiging krijgt. . Een controlled composition clausule limiteert vaak het bedrag dat het label moet betalen voor de verveelvoudiging van zo’n (door de auteur / artiest) ‘gecontroleerde compositie’. Labels cappen de fee meestal tot 75% van de statutory rate. Daarnaast komt het soms voor dat een label maar voor 10 platen per album betaald. Alles daarboven; pech. Een andere leuke; zodra platen met korting worden verkocht, dan krijg je maar 50% van de rate. Met die toffe acties van Beatport kan dat dan opeens best snel gaan. Huppatee; daar gaat je geld. . Het is daarom aan te bevelen om te onderhandelen over een hoger bedrag of in ieder geval de hoogst geldende rate te nemen. Die rate wordt om de zoveel jaar vastgesteld en kan dus stijgen! . Let ook heel goed op de afspraken bij collabs. Als je mede-schrijvers de verlaagde rate weigeren, dan moet jij dat bedrag zelf aanvullen. .
