Dear #BlackMuslimGirFlly® , for the entire world of Muslims, #Ramadan begins very soon, and many of us will be fasting. Our expectations from God, to fast from sunrise to sundown, includes abstaining from food, water, sex, etc. And, if you have medical conditions that prohibit you from doing so, you’re expected to replace your fast by feeding a person in need of a meal. Yet, just abstaining from those carnal things alone aren’t what make Ramadan such a holy month. This respite from the rest of the year is a brief oasis for us to connect with our SPIRITUALITY. Keepin’ it 💯 my biggest vice is my anger. I’ve seen some shit. I’ve experienced some shit. And, I’m a #Baltimore OG. I have a hot temper, and the power to back it up. So, every year I’m working on not going off on a mofo, I mean, people who step out of pocket with me. Let’s be real with each other, lol. And, I’m not saying ALL girls from Baltimore are “hood,” but I’m the first to admit that I’m the nerdiest, loving, Muslimah, hood chick that you’ll ever meet from Park Heights. (My mother, on the other hand is the sweetest, most patient, kindest Muslim woman I know; who I’ve rarely EVER seen angry.) *My playlist includes tracks from @publicenemyftp, #JohnnyCash, and @jeanniegrigio, with titles like “Hater’s Anthem,” “When The Man Comes Around,” & “Fight the Power.” (That’s my PG list, LOL.) *My mom’s playlist includes a lot of @BrunoMars, & tracks like “Happy,” from @Pharrell. So, we’re kind of different that way, LOL. I strive everyday to be more like her. Real talk, my being Muslim has saved many lives.
