Messina Vinyl Fest: è tutto pronto per l’evento dedicato agli amanti della musica e dei vinili. E’ tutto pronto per il Messina Vinyl Fest, in programma domenica 28 maggio dalle ore 10.00 alle 20.00 al Sunset di Mortelle (con un contributo di 2 euro per l’ingresso e gratuito fino a 16 anni). Sarà una giornata all’insegna della musica, con la presenza di numerosi stand di espositori e venditori di vinili (dodici in totale, provenienti da diverse regioni), fra i quali: Sonatine Dischi da Cosenza, Semplicemente Dischi, nuova realtà di Catanzaro, Oblique Strategies e thereal vinyl pusher da Roma ed i venditori messinesi Riccardo El Ponta, Il Musichiere, Lucentini e Cuminale Presenti anche stand di oggettistica vintage e abbigliamento: tra cui Ottica Sciutteri, La Vecchia Soffitta Modernariato SiciliAmore. Spazio anche all’artigianato con I Lignu, Nakei Boutique, I Pikini e Fy Artigiane. Gli organizzatori del MVF hanno puntato su una esperienza musicale a 360 gradi attraverso l’utilizzo di diversi linguaggi (dj set, live, talk) nella suggestiva cornice del Sunset di Mortelle. L’obiettivo è quello di dare voce ai talenti del territorio, dalla Sicilia e dalla Calabria, attraverso una giornata che propone sonorità trasversali, (disco, reggae, funky, cumbia, dub). E’, infatti, previsto un programma di appuntamenti musicali particolarmente ricco: Dalle ore 12 si svolgerà un talk e dei live acustici a cura di TUMA Records (neonata etichetta discografica indipendente messinese) e LetteraEmme: saranno protagonisti i Basiliscus P e La Stanza della Nonna (LSDN). Le due band messinesi si racconteranno ai giornalisti di LetteraEmme (media partner dell’evento) e concluderanno gli interventi con alcuni brani tratti dai loro ultimi album. Saranno, inoltre, organizzati dj set per tutto il giorno. Saranno presenti: Disco Tic (da Reggio Calabria), Ssaramood (da Siracusa), Bluemarina & Stereo8 (Messina/Roma), Mish Mash Sound System (Milazzo) e Turki (Messina). Parteciperà anche il siracusano e Jah Sazza, musicista, Dj-Producer nonché batterista e percussionista, con un background ricco di prestigiose collaborazioni tra cui Roy Paci. Si presenta ricco di influenze e sonorità globali partendo dalla cadenza in levare del Reggae-Ska che unendosi alle battute tipiche del Funk, ai chiari riferimenti Afrocentrici e il caloroso Jazz Latino, di certo non trova spazio a limiti nel campo musicale. Tutti i visitatori avranno anche la possibilità di pranzare al Sunset, trascorrendo così una domenica diversa dal solito. Da segnalare la presenza di tre associazioni no profit che parteciperanno all’evento: l’Associazione Nino Cucinotta, Puli-Amo Messina ed Ecosfera Diving Center. Book Review: The Last Graduate (Scholomance #2) by Naomi Novik

Now that El has formed alliances, even made a few friends, and caught the eye of a mal-slaying nutter (*meant affectionately) with a hero complex who wouldn't mind holding her hand in public, how will that bleed into her senior year at the Scholomance? Did the magical cleansing of the graduation hall work? Will she heed her mother's note and "stay away from Orion Lake?" How, if at all, will she have to alter her tactics to survive the school's big Graduation Day Purge now? What's up with the maleficaria, anyway? And why...why does it seem like the school wants to usher in a new era of change? These are all questions The Last Graduate tackles in book two of the series, which picks up right where the first one concluded. And can you believe it? The stakes are higher. The motivations are different. The scope of the world is changing, and so are the characters. Again, Novik excels in both preserving and expanding upon the atmosphere in this newest installment, which has always been one of my favorite things about her writing. She knows just how to topple readers into an environment. Into a fantastical world of her creation. The Scholomance is as darkly imbibed with magic, with consciousness, as ever, making the school itself feel like a Sentient Stranger Things creature that has monsters tucked away beneath the staircases and bogeymans lurking in every shadowed dusty corner just waiting for an opportunity to entrap its students in another tentacled fight for survival. Except, you know--between class periods. Not only are the dark academia vibes catching in this school but they're intrinsic. They vine their way through the floor of the place, tangle into the walls, shucking the hallways full of macabre sinister things that make you want to expel your latest meal anytime you encounter a new one. The Scholomance is an Enigmatic Edifice with its own mind as well as its own on-the-fly rules and I appreciate the creepy-crawley agency it possesses. I applaud the author's inventiveness in that regard. It's my favorite element of the whole series. The stream of consciousness narration didn't work for me as well in this one, though. I found it to be distracting. Deflating in places. The expository nature of the POV-style stole thunder from the action at times. The big moments weren't able to land as hard, which was regrettable because, jaw-dropping, feels-inducing cliffhanger aside, there were some other good ones that could've shined more under different circumstances. That said, I thought the characters developed nicely. El is still peevish and rude, though with a less mean-spirited bite now. She's become more of a disgruntled participant in this book rather than the raging sideline observer she was before. It was nice to see her branch out and talk to people. I also liked the representation of her making alliances with others, not because they liked each other, but because they were all desperate to find a way to survive. There is no "I" in team, after all. (A good message to reverberate outwards in this selfish, out-for-myself world we're currently inhabiting.) Orion's still a bit of a clumsy, can't-do-people dork at heart but he ended up having more depth than I'd anticipated. I liked gleaning more about his past, about his history with fighting mals. Also, he and El both got to ruminate over what an "after" for them could mean or look like. I was also glad to learn more about Liu and Aadhya. However, it's Precious who was the real MVF (Most Valuable Familiar) in my eyes. Despite some minor things that I didn't care for in the mode of storytelling, I thought this was a decent follow-up. Novik is a wizard at aesthetic immersion, and she pulled me into the world of the Scholomance--homework, magic, near death escapes, and all. It could not be helped. Like a maw mouth, I'm already chomping to know how that final cliffhanger will resolve... Thanks to NetGalley and Random House Ballantine for the ARC.

O Music Video Festival (MVF) prorroga as inscrições para seu prêmio anual, o MVF Awards, que premia Melhor Direção em Videoclipe Nacional e Melhor Direção em Videoclipe Internacional – Escolhas do Júri e do Público, Videoclipe Revelação Nacional e Internacional – escolha do júri – e Melhor Videoclipe de Inovação (Nacional ou Internacional) – também escolha do júri, destinado a destacar aqueles que estão inovando na linguagem do videoclipe e levando esta arte para novas direções, através de formatos inovadores de produção e distribuição, ou técnicas tais como interatividade, 360º, e realidade virtual, entre outras. Artistas, diretores e produtoras de todo o mundo podem inscrever quantos videoclipes quiserem através do site www.musicvideofestival.com.br até o dia 31 de agosto de 2018.

Um time de curadores e colaboradores do MVF Awards selecionará 15 finalistas nacionais e 15 internacionais, refletindo a qualidade de produção de videoclipes no Brasil e no mundo. Sua programação abrange exposições/instalações sobre o tema, mostras com o que existe de mais interessante na produção mundial de videoclipes, conteúdos audiovisuais inéditos, debates com convidados nacionais e internacionais, premiação e incentivo a novos talentos. Sempre com olhar apurado para a estética audiovisual, em suas cinco edições, o festival já reuniu mais de 35 mil pessoas, premiou 23 videoclipes, recebeu mais de 50 profissionais nacionais e internacionais da área e produziu cinco videoclipes profissionais com novos talentos na direção.

Becoming an MVF

Alright, so what does becoming an MVF look like?

Well, now that I’m more than a year into freelancing, I realize I could have gotten by with a LinkedIn profile, a business card, a very basic website, and my husband (local networking). Really, that’s all I needed.

But I didn’t set out to start a remote writing jobs local business.

For my online business, I need a website (one, not three), a service offering, a blog, a mailing list, and a presence in Facebook groups.

This is freeing, because instead of half-assing it in other areas (looking at you, Twitter oh hey there, Instagram SEO, glad you could join the party), I can concentrate on the foundation.

And yes, now that I’ve written this post it is super obvious that this is what I should have been doing all along.

Dopo il grande successo dello scorso anno, domenica 28 maggio ritorna il Messina Vinyl Fest, l’appuntamento dedicato a tutti gli appassionati di musica che, anche per questa edizione, sarà ospitato nella suggestiva location del Sunset di Mortelle. Una giornata dedicata alla musica, con esibizioni live e dj set. Presenti espositori di dischi provenienti da diverse regioni e numerosi stand di artigianato e oggettistica vintage.
