Some Stats and Observations

1010 are some of the lowest requested characters, but when they are requested, it tends to be the whole group. There are a couple of requests for individual 1010s, but not many.

As expected, the most common pairing for keychains was DJSS/Neon J. In fact, DJSS is the top-requested first choice, and NJ is the top-requested second choice.

However, Tatiana has the most requested quantity.

In the US only, Kliff has the highest quantity request.

Mama is the least requested character, but she's often paired with Yinu.

There aren't many requests for the other NPCs, but so far Zam is the only one that's been mentioned multiple times, so I *might* go ahead and finish the Zam sketch after all.

Surprisingly to me, most people don't mind mirrored sprites on the backside, even though my example is the most extreme case: Eve. I kinda figured this would bother more people, but I guess not.

Originally I conceptualized these as having a dangling accessory, but I might drop that feature. Some characters do seem a little "naked" without the thing they always carry around, but adding the dangler essentially doubles the pieces and jacks the price even higher, which I can't readily accommodate with the current volume of orders I'm expecting.

So I might edit some characters to actually hold their thing and then poll about which way people prefer (if they'd rather everyone hold nothing, or have the characters that do have items, hold their items).

(Besides, I was having trouble thinking of accessories for certain characters anyway...)

blorbo: if it wasn't obvious, DJSS. to this day. i had an astronomy phase that never really went away and I like asshole characters and that's how i got one of my strongest hyperfixations ever. </3 BUT ALSO ONE WHO I DON'T TALK ABOUT ENOUGH, Mayday!!!! OH MY GOD she's literally so fun I love her. She's part of the reason I bought the game, just because I knew getting to play her would be amazing skrunkly: SAYUUUU BELOVED! She was the first boss fight I ever saw of NSR and her design stuck with me so hard I got into the game. To this day, she's one of my fave character designs ever!!! I would put her in a v nice aquarium with a little pineapple house in it for funsies <3 scrimblo bimblo: Tatiana doesn't get nearly enough love ok she's so cool. shes got fukin. magma hair. And yea i know she gets lots of love but she deserves MORE. shes the coolest aughhh glup shitto: Celine and Yiruk are fashion ICONS. inspired my current fashion sense! They're both v fun to talk to as well!! Also, not REALLY super obscure, but Zimelu. I only partially count him in this category because 1010 in-game are more like elaborate props than characters. Still tho, I like his mohawk and red's my fave color so i will mention him regardless poor little meow meow: There's not many controversial characters in NSR to begin with so DJSS again only bc when i talk to my friends about him i have to preface it with "yes i know this is one of the most pathetic characters known to man but-" horse plinko: DJSS lmao he would sound like a squeaky toy going down too eeby deeby: There's an obvious choice here yes but I choose to ignore it for Joey. Like listen im into weird music and get v annoying passionate about it but I can't do the music hipster thing im sorry dude. and THEN he has the GALL to offer me perfect parry mode??? on the SWITCH???? WHEN IM A COMPLETIONIST????? nah buddy get out of here >:(

I love your NSR\Pokemon Mystery Dungeon crossover! Just out of curiosity, what ‘mons would the other artists be? I was thinking Cosmoem or Minior for DJSS and Primarina for Sayu, but I dunno about the others.

I’ll list everything under a readmore since this is gonna get very rambly. Anyone’s welcome to give their thoughts and ideas in the replies too.

DJSS

There aren’t that many space-themed pokemon so narrowing down some fitting choices for him is hard but my first choice for him would be Deoxys, specifically the defense form since it’s more similar to DJ’s silhouette. They both can change their shape to some degree, they both have spaghetti arms, and they both have an orb as part of their designs, the only difference being DJ’s orb being his head and Deoxy’s orb in its chest actually being its brain. But if you don’t like the idea of him being a mythical pokemon then minior is a good option for him too, and a hilarious one because DJ is supposed to be a huge and hefty guy and then you got minior who is tiny. Aesthetically, Cosmoem would’ve been a good choice for him, but idk how I feel about assigning him a pokemon that’s literally described to be a lifeless cacoon.

Sayu

If we were to consider Sayu’s form changes, I would actually make her the entire Popplio line; Popplio being the 1st standard form, Brionne being the 2nd, and Primarina being the 3rd. I’ve also thought about what team Sayu could be too; Tila being Jigglypuff, Remi being Smeargle, Dodo being a Kirlia, and Sofa maybe being a Porygon or a Porygon2. In the PMD world, Sayu could be an illusion brought to life thanks to the efforts of Dodo’s psychic abilities and the like.

DK West

If Zuke is a Treecko/Grovyle, then by default DK West would be Grovyle/Sceptile. The reason I picked the Treecko line for Zuke is because of the chill vibes the entire line gives off, and West is pretty chill too in his own way. Otherwise, he could be something like a Gengar for its ability to manipulate shadows and a tendency to mess with others (i.e. Zuke)

Yinu and Mama

It’s pretty obvious that they’ll be a Budew and a Roserade because of the rose motif, although I think Yinu could work as a Roselia too. I think it could work for her character as a prodigy for a young child like her to have already evolved.

1010 and Neon J

I could be predictable and make 1010 the eeveelutions; Red/Zimelu = Flareon, Blue/Purl-Hew = Vaporeon, Yellow/Haym = Jolteon, Green/Eloni = Leafeon, White/Rin = Glaceon or Sylveon, but I also like the idea of making 1010 Pawniards and Neon J a Bisharp because all of Bisharp’s pokedex entries talk about how it commands its own troop of Pawniard. Plus Pawniard and Bisharp are all part steel type which works with their robot/cyborg aesthetic well

With that said, I don’t not like the idea of making 1010 the eeveelutions. After all, what the two groups have in common is that while they’re both widely beloved they are also incredibly overrated. It just leaves the question of what Neon J could be because so far my other best pick for him would be Xurkitree, because both of them have a passion for dance apparently. And idk about you but there’s something very endearing about an extraterrestrial lifeform and a bunch of dogs adopting each other as a family unit. Sometimes a family can be some sentient cables and their five dogs.

EDIT: FALINKS! Falinks is also a good choice for 1010 and NJ! Can’t believe I forgot about them they were so obvious 🤦‍♀️

EDIT 2: A friend from a discord server I’m in also suggested Silvally for Neon J for the eeveelution 1010s. Silvally Neon J can change his type to reflect the boys’ much like how he can use them as weapons in the final phase of 1010′s fight

Eve 

It’s either Gardevoir or Medicham. Gardevoir can distort dimensions and its design suits Eve’s diva aesthetic well. But if Gardevoir’s too predictable of a choice, I also suggest Medicham because they both have a similar colour scheme (white and magenta) and Medicham’s mega evolution sprouts another pair of hands like how Eve can.

Tatiana

I want Tatiana to be some kind of legendary, preferably a fire type. Dialga sounds fitting because both of them have time control abilities, but then I saw someone suggest Groudon for Tatiana too which I also really like the idea of. Some less powerful and non-deity-like options I’ve considered are Entei and Moltres, both kantonian and galarian, though I think galarian Moltres matches Tatiana's intimidating stature more. I had also considered Arcanine for her too, even though it’s not a legendary pokemon in a true sense it is classified as ‘the legendary pokemon.’

BONUS

Kliff

I really like the idea of Kliff being a Rotom for his gift at hacking into machines and being tech savy.

Ellie the Alligator

A Totodile. They both almost look alike. She could be Team B2J’s third member

Odd idea, imagine either Amadeus or DJ Phantasmagloria was in No Straight Roads? Like as bosses or something?

This took quite a while but hell it was worth it,,

I would see them as some sort of mini boss! Kinda like DK west but more like- some sort of “bouncer” before Yinu (Wolfgeist) and DJSS (Phantasmagloria) that try to stop you from hijacking the concerts.

For both of them I tried to mix both the districts and the style of the bosses they’re ment to protect (Elegant and nature inspired for Wolf and more casual and space themed for Gloria)

Extra info on how they could fit into everything under the cut as always!

Wolfgeist:

-former rival of Yinu’s father. Retired from the idea of becoming the leader of the distrct after his death, feeling that Yinu would’ve been the best choice to continue such legacy. 

-He still performs with his piano but he also found a certain interest to the theatre scene, drammatic musicals especially.

-Seeing the rock duo approach the gates of Yinu’s concert he will challenge them (”I didn’t give up my chance at the throne for two trash dwellers to steal it- Engarde!”)

-The piano pattern can be drawn from his vest and played like actual piano keys- same with the pentagram patterns. He will use the first to form projectiles notes while the latter can work as both a whip or a lazzo.

-His hair are prehensile and he will use them to stop or interrupt attacks.

-As the last resource he will shoot out the thorns present in his cravat and then take the last one to duel as if it was a sword.

-fun fact: the whole “thorns stabbed into where his cravat forms a bleeding rose” is a nod at my death headcanon for Wolfgeist in lm3- it being an heart aneurysm.

Phantasmagloria:

-She is simply a huge fan of DJSS. Ispired by him to keep up with her musical dreams even with her being blind.

-She feels vibrations to understand where everything his. The rings around her also help with feeling her surroundings. 

-She’ll feel the duo arrive thanks to Mayday ruckus about wanting to hjyack the concert and will block them at the entrance (”No one told is rude to skip queues?”)

-The rings that surround her transforms into portable disk-jockey disks- ready to hit hard both when thrown like frisbees and when spewing rounds of notes.

-She can use her hair to block attacks. They very thicc.

-Her earring and other round jewelry can transform into mini bombs she’ll scatter around the “battlefield”.

-Fun facts? ... I’m love her;;

Sol is DJSS’ first Pokémon, and honestly his only real childhood friend. (Who would want to be friends with him,,smh,,loser >:( /j) While Sol seems to be in an unhealthy state, it’s really just because she’s old as HELL, and for an old espeon she’s in very good shape.

Sol can suprisingly read, and has most of Kanto and Vinyl City’s history stored in that big as hell brain of hers, although some things are mostly blurry, like what’s called ‘The thing built by Kantonian Scientists made in Johto which caused Unova to surrender out of pure terror because WHAT THE HELL IS THAT’ But let’s NOT talk about TTBKSMJWCUS, alright?

She mostly parrots off of DJSS’ personality, although she doesn’t have a superiority-inferiority complex and just thinks she’s somewhat higher because she’s basically a library of Pokémon history.

I mean...she would be classified as higher than most Pokémon since she’s carries an almost human intelligence, powerful psychic abilities, and also a photographic memory, but pssh.

Moony is DJSS’ child. That’s the basic summary of it.

Moony doesn’t make proper sentences and will ‘Echo’ what people are saying. Somehow DJSS and his team know exactly what it’s saying almost perfectly.

Moony will never appear in fights, DJSS doesn’t know what it even is but knows it’s somewhat fragile and adorable and B A B Y. Moony will grow up to be a big strong Lunala someday! Or ironically, a Solgaleo...who even knows by this point..

I..kinda gave up on the design but trust me MARS IS DOPE.

Mars is an intersex Gardevoir, while much more feminine-ish she carries both Gallade and Gardevoir traits, her body can somewhat switch between looking much more like humanoid clothing. In other terms she’s DJSS’ bodyguard and is loyal to death. Instead of fighting fully sword-wise or summoning BLACK HOLES, she’ll use one hand as a sword and then the other’s ‘galactic bits’ will extend to form a shield-like shape, it can slightly pull things to disarm others at close range.

As I said before, she’s extremely loyal to DJSS and somewhat carries a small rivalry with Sol. They don’t hate eachother, no, they love eachother (Sol might uh,,,have a lil crush 👁👁), it’s all totally in good fun until Mars takes it too far with her competitive nature.

Anyways!! They’re open for asks! Although I might not respond because I’m rethinking my life choices

The NSR twitter is holding a poll about which characters we want plushies of next.

I think it makes more sense to do Mayday and Zuke since they're our lovely protagonists afterall~

But I voted Sayu & Eve because I have a bias towards pink (and before the DJSS plush even launched, I said my first choice for an NSR plush would have been Sayu).

That said, I wonder if they're really gonna try to get every boss made. I mean, as long as we're able to fund them, it seems like a win-win to just keep making them until it's no long sustainable.

But I still wonder, because if Sayu & Eve win, and subsequently get funded, it's gonna feel real weird to not have the entire NSR crew, ya know? At least if B2J got made, they would make sense as a set with DJSS even if no other plushies ever got made because it'd be the protagonists of the game + the first boss. DJSS, Sayu, and Eve are just such a random combination that's just begging the other artists to join them.

So a question, how do you feel about djss?

I like him a lot ^o^! I think he has the BEST character design in the entire game, and his VA does so much to bring him to life.

I think I've said this before, but DJSS is the *reason* I decided to buy NSR over Mad Rat Dead (besides my music preference). I just really had to meet him, and I was not disappointed when I did.

He's the first character I ever drew from the game because I basically fell in love with him at first sight.

The only real "negatives" I have to say about him is that I don't find him sympathetic at all. I just don't buy into sad boi DJSS propaganda. He is an asshole, was an asshole, and will probably always be an asshole.

But, I don't think he needs to be sympathetic to be likeable. I love that he's just an unrepentant prick from beginning to end, but that does mean that outside his aesthetics, I don't have anything nice to say about him. However, him being such a big prick means that it's very fun to bully him, so he's great for comics when I need something bad to happen to somebody >:3c.

So in short, I love him a lot, and do not take my lack of posting about him as meaning otherwise.

Grab Bag Doodles

Yes, I’m starting to loosen up again~

1) “Stay”: Rewriting Desynchronized B-Side to be a little lighter. Even in the first drafts, it was always Green’s choice to stay, but now he’s a little more enthusiastic about it because he realizes that this means he no longer has to fear for his life at home. ****** does not share that enthusiasm.

2) He is just. He is just sitting there. You know, discounting the comics, and the pinup series, my “cute” drawings of Kliff generally preform the best. I think the fandom just likes to lie about not liking him (or it’s a “love to hate” kinda thing).

3) Goat!Kliff. Experimenting with different types of kemonomimis, but I still like Flame Trio all being cats~

4) “Mega Milk”: I was listening to “Mooo!” and drew this. I cannot stop thinking of that one time someone referred to DJSS as “That guy with the fat tits.” and how they aren’t wrong.

In retrospect, this would have suited DK West better though, huh?

5) Desychronized!White “On” and “Off”. It’s not that he doesn’t enjoy his work, it’s just stressful.

6) “Ahoge”. This didn’t turn out quite how I wanted it to, but I’d like to redraw it.

7) Another doodle of Neapolipuppy.  Yeah, that’s what I’m going with now.

I’m Feeling Saucy...

Time to post some *really* old NSR/Desynchronized comic sketches.

I’m putting them under a readmore because they’re *especially* bad and weren’t posted for a reason, but I feel like the only way I ever look at my old sketches is if I post them. So hopefully doing this will motivate me to actually finish one of these.

“Mug”

From a comic about Kerinting breaking one of Kliff’s mugs by mistake. I never got the layouts down for this one (that’s gonna be a running theme for most of these). I don’t think I ever finished the script for this one because I think it’s way too sappy, but I’m scrapping it anyway because I don’t want to write White as being physically abusive anymore.

Captions:

Kliff: I mean, yeah. I liked that mug, and now I have a mess to clean up.

Kliff: But I’m not going to hit you over it. It was a mistake.

Kerinting: I made a mistake... but I’m not being punished?

Kliff: Hey, this isn’t an inviation to break all my mugs. Just be careful next time.

“Untitled”

This is from one of the earlier rewrites of Desynchronized B Plot. Since I’m scrapping that version, I can talk about it a bit more.

Since I scrapped the original kidnapping plot for being in bad taste, the new idea was that during an unauthorized getaway into the city, Kerinting got separated from the main group and wound up in the trash (in most versions of that script, they accidentally got caught up in a fight, but since 1010s can’t retaliate against humans while in civilian mode, Kerinting became the distraction to let the others escape, but he didn’t make it out).

Coincidentally, on the same night, Kliff was coming home from a night of drunken karaoke and had noticed him in the trash. Joey (his neighbor) had forced him to go out since Kliff had gotten extremely depressed after the events of the game and had just been moping around his apartment for the past month or so.

Thinking it was just a bootleg that was tossed and against his better judgement, Kliff takes Kerinting home with the intention of gutting him for parts. The following day, Kerinting was able to reactivate himself, shocking Kliff who had no idea that Kerinting was a genuine 1010.

There are two different routes that I wrote for this version of the incident:

One was that Kliff just tells Kerinting to leave, but Kerinting refuses to since he was out past curfew: any 1010 not back home by a certain time will be destroyed, no questions asked.

The other was that Kliff physically takes Kerinting back to Barraca mansion, but gets into an argument with NJ about it, causing them both to flee back to Kliff’s place.

In either scenario, Kerinting is essentially abandoned by the others and is taken in by Kliff out of pity/spite. In most versions, this backstory was revealed through a conversation with Joey. Joey was actually a lot more prominent in earlier versions since he more or less served as the “voice of reason” to the other two’s nonsense. He might still be, but I haven’t thought of many other scenarios where he’s really “needed”.

Joey: So... this thing...

Joey: Just lives with you now?

Kliff: Yep.

Joey: And you’re okay with that?

Kliff: It wasn’t my choice to make.

“Routine”

I really liked the idea of a comic comparing and contrasting what the daily routines of the Green 1010s were now that Kerinting is living with Kliff.

Despite how bad they are, I do feel like the scribbles speak for themselves about what’s going on. But I did want to make an aside about how they sleep: In earlier drafts Kerinting just slept next to a cabinet in the living room because it’s visible and doesn’t take up much space (Kerinting used to stay in Kliff’s closet, but he kept getting scared by him). In more recent stories he sleeps in a suitcase next to the cabinet. The other 1010s sleep in what I call a “standing bed”. It’s a dock that they hook into so they can charge and upload their memories for the day. In earlier drafters this had to be done physically instead of being remotely uploaded.

“Memories”

One of my “dream pieces” is to draw “Kliff’s Photo Album” where he keeps all of the pictures from his younger days. Top left would have been him and young!NJ. Bottom left is NJ recieving letters/gifts from his classmates before he gets shipped out. Top mid-right is a young!Tatiana. Below that was supposed to be Kul Fyra. Far right was a strip of one of those photobooth things with all 3 of them.

I had an idea for a comic where he takes one of those with Mayday & Zuke in one of the Sayu Photobooths as a celebration of him helping them take down one of NSR’s artists. When he came home, he would have put that one with the ones he took with Tatiana and NJ all those years ago. I might still do that one day because I still think it’s a cute idea, I just don’t think I can execute it that well XP.

“Pet”

I think I’ve posted the script for this one already, though I’m not sure which one would have been the most recent iteration.

Anyway, this comic is mostly about Kliff comparing the ways that Kerinting behaves more like an animal than a full-fledged human. The 1010 AI is fairly advanced, but it’s still very predictable.

Captions:

Voiceover Kliff: It likes getting treats.

Kliff: Here, I found another mixtape for you.

Kerinting: Yay! Thank you!

Voiceover Kliff: It needs constant affection or it gets lonely.

Kliff: You did good today! *pat pat*

Kerinting: Really? I did good today?

Voiceover Kliff: It’s good at learning new tricks.

Kerinting: I cooked it just like you taught me!

Kliff: Yep. Looks good.

Voiceover Kliff: And no matter what it does, I can’t stay mad at it because it’ll hit me with those [puppy dog eyes].

Kerinting: I’m sorry. I broke it again.

“Daddy”

I’m pretty sure I’ve talked about this before, but it’s a personal joke that 1010 calls anyone who even vaguely has some authority over them “Dad”, including each other. NJ is a dad for obvious reasons. DJSS is a dad because he’s dating NJ. Kliff is a dad because he helped design the MKI OS. And I don’t think I had considered it at the time of writing this one, but they call Tatiana “Dad” too because she’s NJ’s boss.

Kliff: How many “dads” do you things even have?

White: There’s the Captain, you, DJ Subatomic Supernova, and me.

Kliff: What do you mean “me”?

White: I’m a first gen 1010, so that makes me their dad.

(White is an upgraded MKI. Red & Blue are upgraded MKIIs. Yellow & Green were born as MKIIIs.)
