Dagny Headcanon: Career Day

Dagny has Career Day at the school that she attends, but River has never gone to one of them, due to a job always seeming to pop-up which either runs into or through that particular day. However, the students and teachers rarely question why her mother never comes to this event, because Dagny tells them that she's really busy in the 'disposal' business.

They all think River works in garbage disposal.

They're not totally wrong of course, but they're also totally wrong.

Who holds grudges the longest? Who seeks revenge? Who would kill someone over them taking the last Oreo?

Hm... Probably Orochin for the longest. Yaorochi has held onto the grudge against the humans who killed Orochi since the day they were born. Which was about 2,500 years ago, give or take. Even after regaining and restoring Tasouken (and starting to mellow out, with plenty of help from Sukune), just the mere mention of any of those humans' names is enough to send them into a frenzy. And heaven help you if they learn any have any living descendants.

Of course, plenty of Len'ens are prone to seeking revenge. Besides the aforementioned Yaorochi, Chouki and Mitori are pretty obvious examples, against Fumikado and the old Fujiwara dynasty respectively. Hibaru also holds quite the grudge against the Senris they long to take revenge on one day after all.

But there are quite a few others as well. Off the top of my head, Suzumi is very prone to it, none of their personalities having much issue slitting someone's throat if slighted. And while nowhere near as bad as Yaorochi, Saragimaru is definitely someone you don't want to see the retaliation of when they are truly, truly, enraged. They're a very patient youkai, after all, and know a thing or two about keeping tabs on people. ...Let's just say very few have lived to tell the tale of Saragimaru's vengeance. And that those very few are almost always very fortunate distant loved ones of the original aggressor too.

Now while I wouldn't say any Len'en characters would kill you for taking the last Oreo, there are quite a few who will definitely take revenge for it. Both Yabusame and Tsubakura had many a prank war start over one taking the last cookie (which Shion even gets in on sometimes, because it's fun). All three Shitodos are just as bad, if not to the point of starting prank wars. More yelling at each other. Except for Kuroji. Kuroji hands out death penalties if the other two fail to heed their claiming of the last Oreo. They're kind of a scoundrel like that (lol).

The oddest one here is Sukune. Sukune usually won't kill over an Oreo, but if they were dead set on having it and someone else took it, they will launch a manhunt to knock some sense into the thief. Even if the thief had no idea that Oreo was claimed. It just kind of depends on their whims honestly. But people have been on the receiving end of terrible revenge from them before for something like this, so maybe think twice next time you see the last Oreo there. They have Orochin wrapped around their finger, after all.

I know people have sort of asked before about your chapter outlines. And I was wondering if you’d feel comfortable posting one? It would be cool to see how you take ideas and what actually comes from the process of writing out a story. Especially for chapters like the prison breakout where it’s such a sudden shift in the story and characters are talking for the first time together.

I’ve tried to write a few original stories over the years but have never gotten past the first few pages. I’m not sure if it’s just my brain or if there’s something new I could try out. I really like your writing, so I figured something you’re doing in the idea and planning stage might be helpful. I’ve always been more of an artist so poetry and writing imagery is easy for me while dialogue is more of a struggle. I’ve read before about how you write notes about character interaction when an idea pops in your head which was helpful for the dialogue issue I have. I wouldn’t have thought to take notes on things so small but it does really help ti at least keep track of how characters view each other and that sort of thing. This ask became way longer than I intended so whatever additional advice you can give is great.

Hello!! Sorry it’s taken me so long to answer, but I’d love to help if I can! I’m sorry I don’t have any outlines from LIAB (idk what happened to those - maybe in a drawer somewhere?) but I do have them from RIA & ITF

I can show you an example if you’d like!

So I do all my outlines hand written because it’s what I like and I can take it wherever and idk it’s just a nice change from the normal typing. So excuse my messy hand writing and I hope it’s legible! I also can have it open next to me while I am writing and cross things off idk something so satisfying about pen. Call me old school lol.

So this was the outline for chapter 3 of ITF - & idk if it helps, but my notes go in order (usually) and I go by -POV -

- under each POV I add the main points I want discussed or any other things I want accomplished I also usually add bits of dialogue & major events.

I sometimes add little things here as it comes to me or if I’m like OH SHIT THIS TOO & I just write it in- I list the POVS in order at the end of my outline and cross them out as I go.

If this doesn’t help or you want other examples I have many more just DM me and I’ll be more than happy to send them or help you out anyway I can :)

Galdino stares at man with blue locks with a smile that equals more of a mannequin rather than his true feelings. "That moonshine of yours, quite the thing. Quitee the thing. I sincerely wonder how you can enjoy it, ga ne. ~Saa… in honor of going into an alcoholic coma." The artist stops talking, going unblinking for a minute with empty eyes before regaining his senses. Placing a hand over the forehead, letting out a dry chucke. "Fu ha ha ha~ Excuse me. Anyway, I thought I would share a little of this wonderful day with you. Pocky day. Heard of it? " He throws a 1 kg bag of pocky over the nearest table. Lock seal already opened as he pointed to it. " Go on, Heat. Have one." As he offered, Galdino picked one as well. Chewing on it while locking eyes with the pirate. "Safe and delicious as your moonshine, ga ne."

          ✞ I it takes him a moment to register that he was being spoken to; despite the audible clicking of the doorlock that signaled that the other man had essentially barricaded them inside the cabin, alone without any witnesses. a slow turn of the head, and suddenly he's locking gazes with candlewick, of all people.

he wasn't the type for small talk. not with folk he was unfamiliar with, and not when galdino's starting right out of the gate packing vibes too antsy to ignore, prattling on and on about how much he appreciated downing his home-made moonshine.

so that was where the missing bottle had gone. he should've guessed when he was checking up on the small cupboard tucked away in the ship's hold, only to come up short several days back: a real curiosity, considering the precious few who'd dare lay hands on his belongings without asking first. even kid himself had no particular reason to keep mum about sneaking a cap or two, whenever he felt like chasing after a failsafe buzz. would've been bitchin' about the ensuing hangover the next morning to the entirety of the new world.

the thought of the misplaced liquor somehow ending up in galdino's unsuspecting hands hadn't even crossed his mind. though, he doubted that the other was the type to go rummaging around where he wasn't permitted; much less embark on a thorough hunt to loot another pirate's freshly fermented booze. a prank on their supposedly new 'treasurer', perhaps?

the details escaped him. yet, it seemed like he was more victim than culprit here, judging by the five stages of grief rolling over his bespectacled face in alternating phases.

          " that right? surprised to see ya back on yer feet so soon, if ya ain't lyin'. my brew's pretty strong. would've brought ya flowers or somethin' if i knew you were bedbound. "

the comment eases out casual, and equally as dry, while he lets his hand slip absent-mindedly to scratch at his forearm in an open gesture of awkwardness. he's double surprised at the waxman's relentless glaring, doesn't care for how he's crunching away with pocky between his teeth, unmistakably devious.

eventually, he answers with a loose shrug, not intimidated, but definitely skeptical.

" 'preciate the offer, but i think i'll pass. "

heat doesn't buy it. whatever galdino was planning on selling him. still, he reaches to grab what's been abandoned on the table with a pasty hand.

" tell ya what. how 'bout i do ya a solid and pass yer stash of sweeties along to the captain? "

he tests the weight of the bag in his hand; hundreds of biscuit-sticks shifting around within flexible plastic, untouched and ignored. a whole kilogram of pocky on its own was already too dodgy to begin with— and a part of heat wants to know how he's managed to obtain that much, annual holiday or not. the faint trace of a lazy smirk hints at his threaded mouth, but there's hardly any humor present there.

" — think we all know by now that boss's got a way bigger appetite than anyone 'ere. i'll even be nice and credit ya. who knows, might earn ya a few brownie points. "

Do special things with the moon effect anything in your AU? Like blue moons, red moons, or eclipses?

Oh they do, they do! Mostly the werewolves, but not only that. No no. Anon you gave me an excuse to ramble about space and the au that I love, have some info!

Blue Moon - A second full moon in a single calendar month. There's nothing outwardly special about a blue moon other than that there being two full moons in one month is uncommon, and only happens every couple of years. It does little more than annoy the werewolves. Like twelve full moons a year wasn't enough. This year there are thirteen? Wonderful...

Supermoon - When the moon is at its closest point to the Earth. This is where things start to have an effect. The supermoon is large in the sky and its pull is a lot stronger as a result. It can leave werewolves agitated and irritable even before the full moon rises. There are usually a few supermoons a year, and they can be pretty annoying and quite stressful, though its effects vary between individuals.

Lunar Eclipse - The moon appears red in the Earth's shadow. Also known as a red moon, or blood moon, these are usually the same thing. Something in a lunar eclipse has a nasty effect on magical creatures. A major stressor for werewolves, it makes their transformations much tougher. The red moon makes the wolves more aggressive and hostile and makes them considerably more dangerous. Both to other people, other wolves, and to themselves. Unfortunately, though, there isn't much they can do other than brace themselves and hope for the best.

It's not just the wolves that are affected though. The vampires aren't usually tied to the moon, but something in a blood moon pulls at them. It can heighten their already sharp senses and increase their prey drive by a substantial amount. This can make an already hungry vampire even hungrier and much more dangerous. The vampires are aware of this though, and if they know an eclipse is coming they'll often make sure they're fed before it happens. It doesn't prevent everything, but it can help ease it.

And on the rare occasions when multiple of these things happen on the same night. Well, let's just say the wolves do not have a good time of it. Not fun at all.

The moon may also affect some of the other magicks in the world, but we haven't figured that out yet.
