Greetings and happy WBW!
What inspired the magic system(s?) in your current WIP, and can you tell me a bit about it?
Hello!!
My current main WIP is a series called The Emerald Mage! It's about a magical world called Thera, which is filled with mostly humans (in a typical fantasy-type world), but also mages
Mages are humans who were blessed by the Spirits, which are basically colour-coded gods. There's red, orange, gold, green, blue, purple, pink, brown, black, silver and white
Each mage is blessed with gold, as that is magic in its entirety, and then one other, which determines their type of magic (for example: green is life, white is air, black is death, etc). Mages all have pointed ears, gold eyes, markings of their colour and one golden feature (Rena has gold hair streaks, Caine has gold scars). And most places in the area the story is set hate mages, some even having laws against them (specifically Maerion and Sephina, which (along with Adrosia) are some of the most important kingdoms in the story)
And basically the magic system actually came from a different story idea I had years ago which was abandoned. It was about modern teenagers as reincarnated gods, and the Spirits are based on what each of them represented (and somewhat influenced which colour was which, which is why some of them are a little odd, like the pink Spirit being past/present/future/fate)
I scrapped that idea (though I did almost write a fanfic with it on my other account, just with different things the gods represented (and the characters of that fandom)), but liked the general magic system so I stole it lol
And I honestly can't entirely remember what inspired me/how I came up with what each character represented in the teenage god story, but I do remember looking at greek gods etc for inspiration for what each god/Spirit represents (because most of them are more than just one thing, like many mythological gods (though they're always somewhat related)). I also don't remember what inspired the story as a whole lol, as it was years ago
Thanks so much for the question!! I love talking about my writing :)
