For tonight's propaganda, Stelak is making big, cuddly friends. 💜
As much as both Stelak and I would kill for a mylodon mount or a baby mylodon minion, it is, unfortunately, something that can only happen in our dreams. :')
On that note, it's bedtime for Stelak and for me! Even if we can't have a mylodon friend, you can make at least one of our dreams come true by helping Stelak win the @woltourney! Please do go ahead and vote for him if you haven't already! ( b ._.)b
Thanks so much, and if you're also hitting the sack about now, have some pleasant dreams of your own while you're there. 💜
Tumblr media
Hopefully you're a tidier sleeper than Stelak. :')

With “Suramérica”, their newest effort, the band has reached a high point in their 35-year musical career, an album that not only consecrates their presence on the scene, but also places them in a moment of creative brilliance. “Suramérica” not only exemplifies his progressive approach, but also raises the banner of Latin American progressive, a powerful fusion that illustrates the deep connection between music and the region's rich cultural heritage. He hated the snow...
The cold did little to numb the pain in his ribs; there were a number of large animals in Coerthas that were far more used to the cold than he was. His movements had grown just enough slower for a mylodon to slam him into the ground with crushing weight.
He had taken a brief respite in the same building he’d found the heretics in before, knowing at least that it was clear of monsters and away from the raging blizzard. He couldn’t stay long, though. He’d already lost feeling in his fingers. But even the thought of pushing away from the crate he’d propped himself up against made him nearly groan out loud.
Not that sitting against the crate did him many favours either. At most, it allowed him to not have to hold himself up. But the way it pressed against the bruises across his back was just as bad as the thought of standing up.
He reached into his pocket, pulling out a string of pearls. A friend had gifted them to him, said they were, at least, partially imbued with fire elemental energy. A frown crossed his features as he noticed a crack through one of the pearls. That definitely wasn’t there before... A brief curse passed his lips as he realized he might have to get a head start on an excuse as to how that happened.
Or not. He was a notoriously terrible liar. They would know for sure. At least, that was his assumption. But they hadn’t pressed too hard the last time he’d said something questionable, perhaps they’d gotten used to him. Or taken mercy on him. But it was probably too much to hope that he could get away with it this time.
At the very least, the job was done and he could get home for a few hours rest before he had to be back at the cafe. Allowing himself the groan after all, he pushed himself to his feet and stumbled up the stairs and back into the snow.
He hated the snow...

Somewhere near Puerto Natales they found remains of a Mylodon. You can go visit the remains, they are in some cave. We didn't. But the town has it as it's mascot. It is on the road signs.
Mylodon darwinii is the scientific name for a species of extinct giant ground sloth. Mylodon lived between 1.8 million years and 12,000 years ago. They weighed between 1000 and 2000 kg and were around 3 metres long!
Always learning on our trips!

Archaeologists from the University of Chile and the Millennium Nucleus Ocean Heritage and Culture (OHC), have discovered a submerged prehistoric site with remains of an extinct species. The discovery was made in the Quintero Bay on the central Chilean coast, where the researchers have been excavating a site designated GNL Quintero 1 (GNLQ1). During the last Ice Age (approximately 24,000 to 17,000-years-ago), the marine space that Quintero Bay occupies was a large esplanade of wetlands which stretched several miles from the current coastline. The esplanade was home to various extinct fauna such as paleolamas, mylodones, American horses and deer, as well as species of rodents, foxes and coypus. With the thawing of the ice sheets, a rise in sea levels caused the esplanade to become submerged, providing the only known end-of-Pleistocene submerged site on the Pacific coast of South America. A study of GNLQ1 by archaeologists and palaeontologists have uncovered deposits of camelidae, cervidae, equidae, mylodontidae, xenarthra, canidae, myocastorinae, and octodontidae, in addition to numerous remains of mylodon, all of which are similar to types of animals found at sites of Paleoindian hunter-gatherers in similar environments in central Chile. https://www.instagram.com/p/Cpa5n43jH-n/?igshid=NGJjMDIxMWI=

I've got a challenge for you, expert gposers! If you fancy yourself an expert at using Ktisis, I'll hand over 10 million gil to anyone who can find the Mylodon's lower jawbone node and show me how to pose and scale it! Details under the cut. 👀
Stelak and I live on Crystal/Malboro. If you have access to this server and you'd like to make a tidy 10 million gil, show me how to pose AND scale the Mylodon's lower jawbone in Ktisis!  You'll be helping me fulfill a year-long dream.  Thanks! ( b ._.)b

As you can see, the Mylodon model is decently detailed and articulated in Ktisis. It has nodes for its head, ears, horns (tuno) and several sections of its beard (hige). No sign of a bone for its lower jawbone, however, which is odd, because the lower jaw is definitely animated.
Usually if I want to pose the jawbone, I put the Mylodon into its Draw Weapon animation and simply pause it at the frame I want, but what I want to do next is scale it, and the lower jaw scales seperately to the rest of the head. This suggests that it has its own node, SOMEWHERE.
We've just gotta find it! 👀

The snow beneath Arna’s boots made a cracking sound with each trudging step, but she was as graceful as a colibri compared to Sadu’s stumbling gait. As she lost balance completely, Arna reached out and grasped her forearm to prevent an inevitable and embarrassing face plant. She pulled Sadu up into a standing position and turned to face her, putting her hands on her shoulders.
“Take my hand,” Arna offered. “I know being patient isn’t in your repertoire but when the snow is this thick it’s basically water.”
Sadu responded with a huff, before taking Arna’s hand and matching her movements until they were in lockstep. “This is your first time in Garmelad, correct? How are you so good at this?”
Arna giggled at her mispronunciation. “There’s a country even farther west of here where the snow falls just as heavily,” she winced at the bitter winds. “Although the weather there doesn’t seem to actually hate you like it seems to here.”
“I doubt it,” Sadu scoffed. “Only hateful people could live in climate this unkind.”
Arna seemed to hide a sigh and a frown at that. Sadu sought to change the subject:
“What kind of beasts did you hunt in that place?”
Arna looked up and grinned at that. “Dear sister,” she smiled, “have you ever seen a Mylodon?”
Sadu furrowed her brow. “I can’t say I have.”
“Imagine a huge, muscular couerl with huge horns and goring tusks.”
Sadu’s eyes lit up in excitement. “How. Big.”
Arna flashed her a sly smile. “Bigger than a Morbol.”
Sadu’s jaw practically dropped to her feet.
Arna let out a belly laugh and dropped to her knees, not realizing her hand was still firmly in Sadu’s. Both sisters were pulled down face-first into the snow, laughing in glee. They each flipped onto their backs and stared up at the sun, filtered dimly through the snowfall. This place did not seem so harsh from this perspective.
“Sister?” Arna spoke first.
“Yes, my sister?”
“I think this is the first lifetime we’ve spent apart,” Arna frowned.
“Why do you think so?” Sadu asked.
Arna sighed. “Because it’s been so hard. I feel like it wasn’t supposed to happen. What if I die before you, or you before me? Will we never be siblings again? All because I chased a phantom into a Garlean patrol?”
Sadu remained silent for a while.
“It’s not your fault,” She finally replied, “that the Dusk mother had other plans for you. She wanted to temper you, to make you stronger. She wanted to make you the Warrior we needed.”
“This might be blasphemy,” she grimaced. “But I don’t know if She made the correct decision. What I do know is that two seeds planted too close together will strangle each other for control of the plot of land. Maybe the Steppe is my plot and yours is somewhere else. And maybe next life, we won’t have to work so hard because in this life we made the world a better place for future lives.”
Sadu turned to look at her sister, who was whimpering pathetically, face awash with tears.
“Or maybe,” Sadu blushed and turned away. “She’s just punishing you for always being the crybaby!”
Arna squeezed her sister’s hand as she wiped away her tears.
“I’ll make sure to come home more often.”
