4: A Curse of Death and Fire

To put it simply, this is the Nadya x Daenerys AU for the collab fic, where Daenerys doesn’t die and in fact becomes queen, with Nadya and Jon as her consorts (harkening back to Aegon, Visenya, and Rhaenys - technically, Nadya is only married to Jon, but still).

Admittedly, I don’t have this one super fleshed out, but here’s what I do have figured out:

Basically, I got really attached to Nadya and Daenerys’ relationship (as well as both of them with Jon) and the idea of Daenerys as queen, and I thought those concepts might be interesting to play around with!

Surprisingly, I would say that Nadya is more misunderstood irl than in-universe considering conversations about her that I’ve had with my friends. In-universe, she is somewhat misunderstood in the sense that many, in particular those who don’t know her well, believe that she is simply a naïve little girl who knows nothing of the world or how to play the Game and is incapable of strong leadership. They don’t see her as the big player she really is. In real life, it seems that the way she’s misunderstood is the people think she’s, again, naïve and doesn’t understand the ways of the world, but also that she’s somewhat foolish, can’t look after herself, and isn’t a smart, capable player at all. And because she is so driven by love and emotion, she isn’t always taken seriously in both regards. Honestly, I could go on and on about this one lol.

🍑 [PEACH] How do they show their kindness? How kind are they truly?

Nadya is an incredibly kind person. Although she becomes more hardened as time goes on given all that she goes through, she never looses that part of herself, and it is something that draws people to her and ultimately makes her so well-liked. The main ways that she shows that kindness are through words and action. Whether it be something large or small. One of my favorite moments where her kindness is really displayed is when Osha arrives in Winterfell. Nadya is immediately welcoming to her, being the only one aside from Luwin to be so, and defends her from Theon. She has a bath drawn for Osha and allows her to stay in her room for a night. All of that, she does without expecting anything in return. She was raised with the idea of doing her best to show everyone kindness, and she holds firm to it.

🍋 [LEMON] What is their kryptonite/ultimate weakness?

Love. Nadya will do anything for the ones she loves, even if it comes at her own detriment, and people know it. Both the Lannisters and Ramsay used her love for her brothers and the Starks to keep her in line as best they could. Love makes her selfless, but it also makes her reckless and can sometimes blind her to reason. The saying “love is the death of duty” applies to her all too well. It was her love for Robb (and his love for her) that drove them to break his vow to the Frey and his death at the Red Wedding.

🍇 [GRAPES] What's their circle of people/their species like? What dynamic would they be called?

Throughout her life, Nadya had been close with many people, and her circle of friends has grown and changed over the years. However, those in her inner circle are like family to her, whether or not they are her own blood. They are loyal to her, and she is loyal to them, above all else. The ultimate found family, if you will.

who the fandom ships them with:

Oh, the fandom would ship Nadya with so many people. But basing it on what my friends/mutuals have said, she’s most popularly shipped with Robb, Jon, and probably Jaime. Tyrion, Theon, and Oberyn would definitely be contenders as well. Some other characters I think she’d be shipped with are Daenerys, Sansa, Margaery, and Brienne.

why the fandom loves them:

She’s a strong, genuinely good female lead who knows how to play the game. She’s embraces her femininity but also doesn’t let that define her within the patriarchal world she lives in. Plus, she’s a badass warrior woman with a sword. That’s always cool.

why the fandom hates them:

Because of her headstrong nature and cunning, she can sometimes come across as arrogant, especially in the earlier seasons. Her actions put a lot of people in danger and cost Robb Stark his life. She can also be very emotional at times, which might make her appear weak or overdramatic.

what the cast relationship would be like:

I always imagined Nadya as being played by Adelaide Kane, and I imagine she’d get along really well with the rest of the cast.

what was their audition scene:

I’m not entirely sure on this one, but I think it would probably be either a scene I have planned of Nadya saying goodbye to Jon in the godswood of Winterfell or a scene with Robb or Catelyn or maybe even Jaime.

dependent upon the fandom, who they’d be on a press tour/at comic con with:

I think it would depend on the season tbh. For the first three, I think it would be the cast of Robb’s whole arc, but later on I think it would be with Kit Harrington, Sophie Turner, and the rest of the North gang.

if they spoil things:

Probably not, but I could see her heavily alluding to things (I know I do it whenever I pretend to be interviewed about Nadya lol).

if the show/movie has ended, are they happy with their character’s ending and the ending at large:

I mean considering how S8 ended, probably not, although she might have one of the better endings of the characters (I assume she’d end up at least getting to stay with Jon). However, in my version of S8, yes she absolutely would be happy with both Nadya’s and the story’s ending, I think.

Seven Sentence Sunday

It’s definitely not seven sentences, but here’s a snippet of the most recent chapter I wrote of my GoT collab fic, during a scene between Nadya and Jaime (and Brienne).

“Anyway, I couldn’t help but overhear your conversation as I was leaving the Godswood, and although it may not be my place to say, I must agree with Brienne on the matter of your promise to Lady Catelyn.”

“Of course you do,” Jaime scoffed, shaking his head in exasperation.

“Thank you, my lady,” Brienne said to Nadya with a pleased grin. She turned to give Jaime a triumphant look, which he pointedly ignored.

“You swore a vow to her,” Nadya said, stepping closer to him. “Lady Stark is- was not a woman who trusts easily. I know that well enough myself. And yet, she chose to trust you with the safety of her beloved daughters over anyone else. The very woman who called you ‘a man without honor’ believed that you would have enough of it to return her children to her, to protect them. And that is the only reason that you are here now, as you are. You know that as much as I do. Surely that must count for something, even to you. You owe it to her to keep your promise, despite her death.” She held Jaime’s gaze for a long moment. “There is honor in being selfless, Ser Jaime.”

“I don’t need you to tell me what gives a man honor,” Jaime objected.

“Perhaps not, but I believe you needed to hear it, all the same,” Nadya responded evenly. “And if that is not enough to convince you, then I must point out that you are one of the only people in Westeros who could possibly keep Sansa and Arya safe. Their very lives may be in your hands, even at this very moment.” Jaime said nothing, only casting another glance at Sansa. His expression was unreadable.

Character Differences Between As The Raven Flies (AtRF) and My Collab GoT Fic

I have actually made a lot of changes to my GoT characters to fit both my own story and the one I’m writing with my friend, and I thought it might be fun to share what makes them so different in the collab (especially since I will be posting about both fics)!

Starting with:

Alistair Dormaire

In the collab, Alistair serves a much smaller role within the fic. He does not have a pov.

He is married to Annalys Tully, the granddaughter of the Blackfish (she’s named after one of my favorite GoT OCs of all time, Annalys Lannister from A Lion Among Wolves on Wattpad). They have a daughter named Lyarra, who later goes on to serve as second-in-command to her younger cousin, King in the North Ren Stark.

He still serves as part of the Northern army and as one of Nadya’s personal guards during the War of the Five Kings, but he is less influential than he is in As the Raven Flies.

He dies during the Red Wedding, murdered by my other friend’s OC, the Lannister assassin, Rieka Stone.

Nadya Dormaire

Overall, Nadya’s story is fairly similar between As the Raven Flies and the collab fic, but there are some pretty big changes as well. She is the only Dormaire sibling with a pov, as she is a main character.

Carlyle Snow does not exist. Nadya is not nearly as close with Ros as she is in AtRF, as my friend’s OC, Nahia “Jasmine” Sand is her best friend.

Nadya is not betrothed to Robb in S1, as Catelyn refused to approve of the betrothal.

Nadya becomes pregnant with Ren and Lena later than in AtTF, and the same can be said of her son Eddard Stark.

During the Red Wedding, Talisa is Nadya’s decoy. This allows her to escape in a different way than she will in AtRF. Nahia Sand is the one who saves her life afterwards.

Nadya marries Jaime earlier in S4 than she does in AtRF, but they do not consummate their marriage until after Tyrion’s trial. Cersei is also the reason for her miscarriage of their daughter, Gwendolyn, as she poisoned her with moon tea (she mixed it in her wine without her knowing).

Nadya is less involved with Oberyn, as Nahia Sand is his more prominent love interest.

Although she has all the same love interests as she does in AtRF, Nadya also has romances with other woman as well. Namely, Daenerys and Yara (and a little bit Talisa too).

Nadya becomes involved with Daenerys during S7, while also being involved with Jon. She remains with her until S9, the final season created by my friend and me. She is also involved with Yara in Season 9 (and also kind of Podrick too)

Nadya kills Cersei using Widow’s Wail.

In S9, which lasts for about six months after S8, Nadya becomes Hand of the Queen to Daenerys after she strips Tyrion of the title. Jon remains with her for about half the “season” but ends up leaving to return North. Nadya is left to do her best to repair the damage done by the Battle of King’s Landing and Daenerys’ crumbling image, with only Brienne and Podrick at her side. While still romantically involved with Daenerys, she also begins a secret relationship with Yara, both to secure her loyalty and because she is genuinely attracted to her. Her ploy succeeds, and by the end of the conflict, Yara is fully on her side. She also becomes pregnant with Robb, her first son by Jon, but while Daenerys is still alive and in power, Podrick claims to be the father to protect her and her son.

Nadya regretfully helps to kill Daenerys, being the one to distract her with a kiss as Nahia Sand shot an arrow into the Dragon Queen’s back.

Nadya is crowned Queen of the Five Kingdoms (Dorne also becomes independent in the collab), along with Nahia Sand (they’re co-rulers). Both she and Nahia are married to Jon, and Nadya also takes Tyrion as her paramour (their son Jaime is born later in the collab timeline than in AtRF).

Victyr Dormaire

Victyr remains in Raven’s Keep until S6 and does not have a pov. He becomes Lord of Raven’s Keep after the Red Wedding, as the eldest living son of Edwyrd Dormaire after Alistair’s death.

Victyr refuses to declare loyalty to the Boltons, and even leads the Dormaire men himself in the Battle of the Bastards.

He is first married to Alys Karstark, to strengthen the ties between the two houses (especially after Rickard Karstark’s death). It’s definitely more a marriage of duty than love, but they do grow to care for each other to a certain extent by S8 (very early NedCat vibes). Shortly before the Battle of Winterfell, Alys reveals to Victyr that she is pregnant, but both she and their unborn child are killed during the Long Night.

Victyr eventually marries Meera Reed, whom he met during S9 and fell in love with, and they have several children together: Jojen, Marah, Edwyrd, and Kyra.

He is the only sibling of Nadya to survive the entire series.

Erwyn Dormaire

Unlike in AtTF, Erwyn is not the bastard son of Edwyrd Dormaire and Melisandre. He is a true born son of Edwyrd and his wife, Marah Tyrell.

Erwyn’s role is greatly reduced, and he does not appear until S6. He has no pov.

Victyr arranges a betrothal between Erwyn and Lyanna Mormont (Erwyn is also a bit younger in the collab), as they are some of the few remaining houses still loyal to the Starks. Although still too young to actually marry, Erwyn and Lyanna understood their duty and, by the time of S8, had become quite fond of one another.

Erwyn dies in the Long Night, fighting side by side with Lyanna. After death, he becomes a wight and is shot in the head by Theon Greyjoy, putting an ultimate end to his short life.

Arielle Dormaire

Arielle is the youngest Dormaire sibling who exists only in the collab. She was Erwyn’s twin sister but died of the pox at age six.

She is said to have looked a great deal like her mother, with the auburn hair and blue eyes of a Tyrell.
