I had to log into facebook to check some marketing stuff for our shop (find out more about why here) and god. Facebook really is a nightmare, isn't it. i wish i could get fb to just not show me anything "nametests" or related ever again, those things are all complete bullshit. no your name doesn't mean strong and beautiful waif with an old soul, it's literally just a latin word. your zodiac sign does not say those things about you. those quizzes are literally just there to gather your data and waste your time, they were probably written by an intern. i fully wish i could ask Facebook to never show me these things ever again tbh

Maker of popular quiz apps on Facebook exposed personal data of 120 million users

An application called Facebook, named NameTests, leaked information for 120 million users. According to a TechCrunch report, the Facebook app claimed to have turned personal information of NameTests into 120 million Facebook users. The news outlines how they collect Facebook information, such as names of exams, birthdays, photos and friends lists, and display them in a JavaScript file that can easily be acquired by malicious thir

d parties. Inti De Ceukelaire, who reported the news, said he was trying to communicate with Facebook about the issue many times and told the company that it would solve the problem. A few months after Ceukelaire noticed the error, in June he noticed that NameTests changed the way he handles user data to close the leak.

There is no evidence that personal data is exposed to third parties and is not abused. Facebook says it deals with the issue through the Data Security Rewards program. "The researcher reported to us via our Data Security awards program that we launched in April to encourage reports containing Facebook data. We were working with nametests.com to get the security clearance in the websites completed in June, and the problem was removed ". Facebook reported that during the Cambridge Analytica scandal in March, it would control applications on its own platform for abuse of data, and in May, it had suspended more than 200 applications under the investigation. It seems like NameTests will not be among the applications that abuse user data because it seems like a mistake made. Read the full article
