I wrote a fic about this if anyone wants to read.

Sharing my thoughts on nace interaction post breakup because why not.

So Nancy is angry and resentful because from her perspective, Ace gave up on them, on her. And abandonment is a big issue for her because she feels that a lot of people in her life had abandoned her. Her biological parents, though she understands why they acted the way they did, she probably feels deep down that she had been let down and abandoned right from her birth. Kate, and again, this is not her fault at all, but to Nancy she did leave her and she was even devastated in season 1 when she first started to believe in ghosts and realized Kate hadn’t come to see her. Then there was the Nick thing, and Celia who she was starting to connect with. So to have Ace, the person who always believed in her, who literally drank poison for her, abandon her, take the easy way out would be more than she can handle. She’s angry, she wants to hate him because he really is the one person she thought would stay but he didn’t, it’s devastating and confusing and she doesn’t know what to do anymore.

But Ace didn’t leave her, from his perspective it wasn’t giving up, it was a sacrifice. Because he truly believes that one day Nancy will fall in love again, a great love because that’s what she deserves and also probably due to his self esteem issues because it’s clear he expects her to move on more than him. He gave up on his chance to be the person who gets to love her. He truly believes that one day she can be happy again, that he just won’t get to be the person who gets to make her happy. So to him, he wasn’t giving upon her happiness, he was giving upon his while just postponing hers, because he won’t feel this way again for someone else but she will. The same way he was ready to risk his life but not hers. So in his head, he didn’t give upon Nancy at all, in fact, he makes this huge sacrifice and Nancy is mad at him, she doesn’t even want to be friends, and he’s annoyed and frustrated because she doesn’t get it, that he’s the one who actually lost something here.

Bottom line, they’re both miserable and it’s times like these I remember how young they are. I love it and I think they’re both idiots and should probably talk properly, or kiss. Someone’s (probably Ace) life will be in danger, but oh I bet it’ll be worth it.

Crazy theory, may have been all the coffee I drank this morning! Nancy sacrifices herself, after killing or really injuring Tristan on accident. Going to Seder dinner, seeing Ace laughing with his new LI, over hearing Jean tell Carson she’s pregnant. She knows about reincarnation of the sin eater. So she’s already an emotional mess about shooting Tristan. Not thinking in her right frame of mind, she decides everyone will be much happier without her, so she sneaks out. She offers herself as a sacrifice to be the next sin eater so that her unborn sibling doesn’t become it. Once the crew finds out they run to save her, but it’s too late. Then the crew has to figure out how to separate Nancy and the sin eater. They figure out a way and Ace has to admit a sin to the black door to call Nancy to them.

I know Nancy tells Ace that she realized her feelings for him when she was fighting off the wraith. But we all know she fell in love with him in “The Sign of the Uninvited Guest” when they go to the library (this is now my new favorite episode other than “The Danger of the Hopeful Sigil”) . Like, I know there’s the super obvious moment where they’re reading Lucy and Ryan’s emails out loud and share a Look. But, what about the part where Ace is bickering with Dominique and flexes that he’s self taught at hacking and Nancy just gives him the briefest “ok, you’re cute” look. And then before they pull up the emails and Ace is explaining how he installed keystroke logging software on all the computers when he was younger, Nancy just looks at him like she’s looking at an enigma that is Ace and would happily spend the rest of her life figuring him out.

And I just can’t with his ship. I love everything that was given to us but I need so. much. more. I hate we never got to really see them in a relationship except for the small part at the end of season 3. I’m in the middle of some fanfic but if you have any Nace fanfic recommendations, please send me a link or title and author!

Canon divergent from 3x13, Ace and Nancy navigate the threat of the curse. Read on AO3

“Is this what we do now?”

He freezes. “Do what?”

The room drops by what seems like ten degrees and she curses herself for opening her mouth and ruining the moment. Still, she has to know. “This—talking and laughing. Taking care of each other. Is that what we do now?” 

“When have we ever done otherwise?” He asks, defensive and self-conscious. 

The only time they did was when they did more, and they both know it. She sucks in a breath. “It’s just—are we friends now?” 

“You said that’s what we are.” His eyes are suddenly on hers, aching and open, wounded but truthful. “And I do want to be your friend, Nancy. If the alternative is nothing at all, I want to be your friend.”

Ace punctuates his words by dropping the cloth into the sink with a wet plop and leaving, the sudden rush of cool air from the hall making her shiver again. 

She closes the door quickly—to keep in the warmth, to hide—and meets her own gaze in the mirror. It had been just like before—normal, fun, easy. 

Why did she have to say something and screw it all up again?

Has anyone noticed how Nancy has absolutely no chill when it comes to Ace. I mean she is usually very rational and logical but when it comes to Ace she has like two braincells. Since the earliest episodes she has no sense of personal space when it comes to him and ONLY him. She tries to sacrifice her life to save her friends after he hints that she put their lives in danger. She gives a list of witnesses to a criminal and makes a shady deal with her grandmother to exonerate her grandfather to save his life. Legit goes to his house to confess her feelings for him even though he was in a relationship at the time. Kisses the next guy she sees after she thinks he stood her up and breaks up with him the very next day after Ace confesses his feelings. Offers Temperance her blood in exchange to save his life. Sacrifices a wholeass town (temporarily) for a chance to be with him. Tries to stay away from him and nearly folds every time he merely looks at her. Brushes off almost dying to try again to be with him. The absolute low, barely leaves her house after their breakup. Tries to send him signs and gestures to fight for her. Recognizes the sound of his car, the sight of his shoes and even the sound of his footsteps (girl, how?). And my personal favorite, accidentally starts a literal death game because she couldn’t handle him seeming indifferent to her dancing with someone else. And these are just the ones I can think of on the top of my head. I’ve seen so many posts about how Nancy moves on too fast and how she doesn’t care about Ace the way he cares about her and it baffles me. Because this girl is so in love that she barely sees anything but him. All her sound logic and calm flies right out of the window and she becomes this unhinged, chaotic version who’s willing to do anything and everything when it comes to him. She has a coping mechanism of getting into rebound relationships and Ace has definitely loved Nancy longer but that in no way means that she loves him any less.

And Nancy is wild for trying to drink the (fake) poison and then being scared when Ace actually drinks it.

Ok I was just looking at Ace’s wiki fan page and one of the trivia bullet points is that Ace was the same in Nancy’s alternate reality in The Whisper Box. And I can’t stop thinking about it. Like, in Nancy’s literal perfect dream world, where everyone else is a better version of themselves, Ace is exactly the same. I’m not okay, I’m going to be thinking about this all week.
