End of Year Wrap-Up 24/12/2018
Happy Merry to all you readers!
I’ve had a great year but all us music fans have had an even better one! Streaming services mean that now more than ever we can experience the musical output from all corners of the globe (though overwhelmingly the English-speaking parts of it) to understand different points of view, learn of the goings on in other parts of the world and most importantly indulge ourselves in a bit of a boogie. All the moods, genres and feels you could think of are out there, so over the holiday period perhaps try and listen to something new. Who knows it might break the tension with that younger/older relative round the xmas table when you find they also happen to like k-pop/jazz-funk/grindcore or at the very least you can bicker about the tragedy of the current album charts (Greatest Showman: 21 weeks!). To aid you in your quest for knowledge/excitement/small-talk I have spent almost 30 minutes curating a best-of for both albums and singles in the year of 2018.
(NB even with my album-a-day policy, there’s no way I can get through everything I want to within the 365, so if your fave appears ignored, let it be known that I probably haven’t heard it yet. The full list of everything I’ve listened to this year is at the bottom)

[Fuente]

CARDI B, BRANDI CARLILE, DRAKE, H.E.R., POST MALONE, JANELLE MONÁE, KACEY MUSGRAVES, AND BLACK PANTHER: THE ALBUM, MUSIC FROM AND INSPIRED BY (VARIOUS ARTISTS) VIE FOR ALBUM OF THE YEAR
By Naomi Richard
The Recording Academy™ welcomes this year's class of GRAMMY® nominees and for the first time, celebrates eight nominees in each of the General Field categories: Record Of The Year, Album Of The Year, Song Of The Year, and Best New Artist. This year’s nominees were selected from more than 21,000 submissions across 84 categories, and reflect the wide range of artistic innovation that defined the year in music (Oct. 1, 2017–Sept. 30, 2018). As the only peer-selected music award, the GRAMMY Awards® are voted on by the Recording Academy's membership body of music makers, who represent all genres and creative disciplines, including recording artists, songwriters, producers, mixers, and engineers.
"Reflection, reevaluation, and implementation have been the driving forces at the Recording Academy over the past year," said Neil Portnow, President/CEO of the Recording Academy. "From convening our Task Force On Diversity & Inclusion and launching our new community-driven membership model, to increasing the number of nominees in the General Field, and to playing a leadership role in the successful passage of the landmark Music Modernization Act, the Recording Academy has reaffirmed its commitment to music creators across all facets of our industry. And, it’s our awards process that has taken a front seat during this evolutionary period to ensure the GRAMMY Awards reflect the ever-changing needs of the creative community. We are proud of this year's nominations results and congratulate all of the talented and deserving nominees."

"Every year the Recording Academy voting membership has the biggest responsibility within our entire GRAMMY Awards process due to the fact they vote to determine who among their peers are the nominees," said Bill Freimuth, Chief Awards Officer of the Recording Academy. "Once again, their votes have produced an impressive list of nominees across multiple genres, promising music fans a spectacular show filled with stellar performances and unique GRAMMY moments."
The final round of GRAMMY voting is Dec. 13, 2018–Jan 9, 2019. The Recording Academy will present the GRAMMY Awards on Sunday, Feb. 10, 2019, live from Los Angeles' STAPLES Center and broadcast on the CBS Television Network from 8:00–11:30 p.m. ET/5:00–8:30 p.m. PT.

Prior to that, SAG Awards Committee Chair JoBeth Williams and Committee Member Elizabeth McLaughlin announced the honorees for outstanding action performances by film and television stunt ensembles.
The complete list of 24th Annual Screen Actors Guild Awards nominations follows this notice.
The 24th Annual Screen Actors Guild Awards® presented by SAG-AFTRA with Screen Actors Guild Awards, LLC is produced by Avalon Harbor Entertainment, Inc. and will be simulcast live on TNT and TBS on Sunday, Jan. 21, 2018 at 8 p.m. (ET) / 5 p.m. (PT). TNT & TBS subscribers can also watch the SAG Awards live through the networks' websites and mobile apps. In addition, TNT will present a special encore of the ceremony at 11 p.m. (ET)/8 p.m. (PT) that same evening.
Prior to the televised ceremony, the honorees for outstanding action performances by film and television stunt ensembles will be announced during the SAG Awards Red Carpet Pre-Show webcast.
One of the awards season’s premier events, the SAG Awards annually celebrates the outstanding motion pictures and television performances from the previous calendar year. Of the top industry honors presented to actors, only the SAG Awards are selected entirely by performers’ peers in SAG-AFTRA. The SAG Awards was the first televised awards show to acknowledge the work of union members and the first to present awards to motion picture casts and television ensembles.
Two nominating panels — one for television and one for film — each composed of 2,500 randomly selected union members from across the United States, chose this year’s nominees. Final voting information will be sent to the 121,544 SAG-AFTRA members in good standing across the country, who may vote on all categories. In keeping with the SAG Awards’ commitment to sustainable practices, online voting is encouraged and paper ballots are available only upon request received by Friday, Jan. 8, 2018. All votes must be received at Integrity Voting Systems by noon on Friday, Jan. 19. Results will be tallied and sealed until the envelopes are opened by the presenters live onstage at the 24th Annual Screen Actors Guild Awards ceremony on Jan. 21, 2018.
The Screen Actors Guild Post-Awards Gala benefiting the SAG-AFTRA Foundation will be hosted for the 22nd consecutive year by PEOPLE and the Entertainment Industry Foundation (EIF), joined this year by TNT & TBS, to honor the SAG-AFTRA Foundation and actors’ philanthropic activities.
