For as long as Mason could remember it had always been just him, his older brother, Conrad, and their mother. While sometimes he wondered about not having a dad, he never felt like he was missing something. From the time he could walk Mason followed his older brother around as if he was the older boy’s shadow. Whatever Conrad wanted to do Mason wanted to do, even if he wasn’t always big enough to do them. 

When Conrad went away to college Mason had mixed feelings. He wanted his brother to go out there and experience things outside of the town of Elora, but at the same time he deeply missed his brother, and more than once randomly showed up at his dorm, not having told their mother what he was doing or where he was going. 

In 2019 the two were going on a camping trip when the two wound up stuck in the town of Huntsville. A number of the things that Conrad had taught him growing up coming in handy in more of the day to day than they had in the past. 

A few months ago while the two were out on their bi-weekly forage Mason got his hand stuck in a hole in one of the trees. The two had found some nuts inside and Mason had misjudged the size of the hole, claiming that he could get them when Conrad's hand proved to be to big to fit in. Getting his hand in had been fine, getting it out was another story. 

Had they had enough time for Conrad to go back and get something to grease up his wrist and arm maybe things would have been different. However, as it was starting to grow dark there was nothing else that could be done, and Mason was given a stick to bite down on as Conrad proceeded to cut through flesh and bone and everything in-between.
