What I don't understand...
Last night, I posted a Nathan Chen X Reader fanfic and it barely got any notes, but when it comes to my Wally Darling fanfics, they get more attention.
Don't get me wrong, I love writing Wally Darling fanfiction, but I wonder why my Nathan Chen fanfics don't get a lot of attention on here. Am I doing anything wrong? Is it because Nathan's a real person unlike Wally who is purely fictional? I wonder what's going on...

Michael In The Bathroom (Nathan Chen x Reader)
Tumblr media
Title: Michael In The Bathroom Pairing: Nathan Chen x gender neutral!reader Word count: 701 Warning(s): Angst, panic attacks, mentions of drugs/unaliving/alcohol/cheating/etc. Summary: When Y/N discovers that Nathan is acting flirty towards Mariah, they go to the bathroom whilst suffering from a panic attack. Author's Note: It's been a while since I've last posted a Nathan Chen fanfic. Long story short, I was trying to cope with ChenBell while getting into new fandoms, which meant I lost interest in writing fanfiction for a while. However, now that I'm slowly getting into a new fandom (*cough* Pee-wee Herman *cough*), I have plans to write more of them.
This fanfic was inspired by Michael in the Bathroom from Be More Chill (I hope you don't mind the lyrics change 😅). This is also my interpretation of how Y/N would appear in a ChenBell fanfic.
***
You couldn't believe it. Not only you showed up at your boyfriend Nathan's party, albeit uninvited, but you were also shocked to discover that he apparently became flirty with Mariah. Panicked, you took refuge in the bathroom, where you were all alone in your thoughts, all while the partying was going on. Suddenly, you started singing…
I am hanging in the bathroom at the biggest party of the fall I could stay right here or disappear and nobody'd even notice at all
I'm a creeper in a bathroom 'cause my buddy kinda left me alone
But I'd rather fake pee than stand awkwardly
Or pretend to check a text on my phone
You walked up to the mirror, where you saw a mirage of Nathan in the reflection.
Everything felt fine
When I was half of a pair
And through no fault of mine
There's no other half there
Now I'm just
Y/N in the bathroom
Y/N in the bathroom at a party
Forget how long it's been
I'm just Y/N in the bathroom Y/N in the bathroom at a party
No, you can't come in
I'm waiting it out 'til it's time to leave
And I'm picking at grout as I softly grieve
I'm just Y/N who you don't know
Y/N flying solo
Y/N in the bathroom by herself/himself/themselves
All by herself/himself/themselves
You checked your phone to look at pictures of you and Nathan together. All those memories you had with him were on the verge of being erased.
I am hiding, but he's out there
Just ignoring all our history
Memories get erased and I'll get replaced
With a newer, cooler version of me
You heard music coming from outside the bathroom.
And I hear a drunk girl
Sing along to Whitney through the door
"I wanna dance with somebody!"
And my feelings sink 'cause it makes me think
Now there's no one to make fun of drunk girls with anymore!
Now it's just Y/N in the bathroom
Y/N in the bathroom at a party
I half-regret the beers
Y/N in the bathroom
Y/N in the bathroom at a party
As I choke back the tears
I'll wait as long as I need '
Til my face is dry
Or I'll just blame it on weed
Or something in my eye
I'm just Y/N who you don't know
Y/N flyin' solo
Y/N in the bathroom by herself/himself/themselves
Knock, knock, knock, knock!
They're gonna start to shout soon
Knock, knock, knock, knock!
Ah, hell yeah, I'll be out soon
Knock, knock, knock, knock!
It sucks he left me here alone
Knock, knock, knock, knock!
Here in this adult battle-zone
Clang, clang, clang, clang!
I feel the pressure blowing up
Bang, bang, bang, bang!
My big mistake was showing up
Splash, splash, splash, splash!
I throw some water in my face
And I am in a better place
I go to open up the door
But I can't hear knocking anymore
And I can't help but yearn
For a different time
And then I look in the mirror
And the present is clearer
And there's no denying, I'm just…
Suddenly, you broke down crying, unable to sing.
… At a party
Is there a sadder sight than, mhm
Y/N in the bathroom at a party
This is a heinous night
I wish I stayed at home instead
Eating kettle corn
Or  I wish I offed myself instead
Wish I was never born
I'm just Y/N who's a loner
So she/he/they must be a stoner
Rides a PT Cruiser
God, she's/he's/they're such a loser
Y/N flying solo
Who you think that you know
Y/N in the bathroom by herself/himself/themselves
All by herself/himself/themselves
All by herself/himself/themselves
Although no one could hear from outside the bathroom, you felt all of those emotions being poured out from your body. You sat in the corner of the bathroom, taking a quick breather before singing the following…
And all you know about me is my name
Awesome party, I'm so glad I came

Cheer Up! (Nathan Chen x Reader)
Tumblr media
Title: Cheer Up!
Pairing: Nathan Chen x gender neutral!reader
Word count: 614
Warning(s): Low mood, drama mention, tickling and fluff :3
Summary: Nathan figures out how to cheer you up when you’re depressed from an exhausting day.
Author's Note: Last fanfic of 2022, whoo-hoo! 🎉
This fanfic came to me out of nowhere, but I didn’t feel like writing it until I had a dream like this the other day.
GIF is from this video (Genuine apologies if it’s small, I have no idea what happened ¯\_(ツ)_/¯)
***
You were lying alone in bed, exhausted from all the drama that happened at work today. Getting involved in toxic drama made you stressed out, so getting depressed from it as well was no surprise. While you were alone in your thoughts, you wondered how your boyfriend, Nathan, was doing. Of course, since he’s in college and is an Olympic figure skater, he probably has it much better compared to you. You deeply sighed when you heard the door creek open.
“Hey, Y/N, I’m back,” Nathan announced as he entered the bedroom.
“Oh, hey, Nate,” you replied nonchalantly, not bothering to turn to him.
“What’s wrong, babe?” Nathan rushed over to the bed and began to caress your back as his way of comforting you. You slightly smiled as he did this, but it still didn’t make you forget everything you went through today. “Did you have bad day?”
“How’d you know?” You finally turned towards him, causing him to stop petting your back.
“Well, I figured you’d be in our room whenever you were stressed or upset,” Nathan answered. “Perhaps a little cheering up will help?”
“What do you mean ‘a little cheering up?’” You raised a brow in suspicion.
“I won’t tell you,” he slightly giggled as he lightly crawled his fingers against the sides of your stomach, “but I’ll show you.” That’s when he started tickling you.
“Nathan, no, wait... NAHAHATHAN, WHAHAHAT THAHAHE HAHAHECK?!” You screamed hysterically as you squirmed all over the bed from being tickled. Normally you did not like being tickled, especially when you didn’t ask for it, but if it was by someone like Nathan, then you’d make an exception. You continued laughing as Nathan moved his fingers up from your belly to your underarms.
“Aww, are you ticklish?” Nathan cooed as he kept teasing you with his tickling, trying not to laugh along.
You didn’t bother answering his question as you couldn’t help but laugh from all the tickling. Although it was torturous, it also felt nice knowing you finally needed some of that euphoria from no one other than Nathan, savoring every single moment of it. As you felt the tickling come to a halt, you internally made a note to yourself that it would be his turn.
Once Nathan stopped tickling you, he collapsed on the bed next to you, causing you to smirk. You got up and mounted on his lap, digging your fingers under his shirt.
“Hey, what’s the face for?” Nathan blushed.
“Oh, it’s nothing... but this,” you replied as you teasingly started crawling your fingers against his sides.
“NO, Y/N, STAHAHAHAP IT, PLEHEHEASE!!” Nathan squealed as you kept tickling all over his torso. You took some enjoyment out of this as just hearing him laugh was enough for you to laugh along. Revenge was certainly sweet.
“Serves you right for tickling me!” You laughed as you continued your tickling.
“I’M SOHAHAHARRYHEHEHEE!!” Nathan cried “I JUHAHAST WAHANTED TOHOHO CHEHEHEER YOUHOOHOO UP!!” At this point, you could see the tears visible from the corner of his eyes.
Eventually, you stopped tickling Nathan and got off of him, collapsing back on the bed. You were both panting from all that laughter as you were facing each other, with you wiping the wet corners of Nathan’s eyes.
“Thank you so much, Nathan,” you exhaled. “I honestly needed that.”
“No problem, Y/N,” he replied. “We should do something like this more often.”
He softly kissed your forehead afterwards, making you giggle. What a way to redeem the day, you thought.

It’s Showtime (Nathan Chen x Reader)
Tumblr media
Title: It's Showtime
Pairing: SNL host!Nathan Chen x gender neutral!musical guest!reader
Word count: 634
Warning(s): Stage fright, anxiety, and fluff
Summary: Nathan hosts SNL while you're the musical guest for the first time.
Author's Note: I've always dreamed of Nathan hosting SNL ever since I had a crush on him. So I decided to write this cute little scenario where he and Y/N are getting ready for SNL 😉
***
"Ladies and gentlemen, Nathan Chen!"
Those words had been living in your head rent-free throughout the night as you were alone in your dressing room, getting ready for your performance. Tonight was not only Nathan's first time hosting SNL, it was also your first time performing on the show. As excited as you were for you and your boyfriend to partake in this opportunity, you were also a bit nervous. Although you had performed live in concerts, you had never been on TV before, and when it came to interviews, you preferred not to do it on talk shows, which meant that this SNL episode would mark your TV debut. Soon, that nervousness escalated to anxiety, to the point where you were panicking. Your panicking made you so dizzy that you collapsed onto the floor, and your hyperventilating was audible enough that you heard someone knock on the door.
"P-Please, come in," you stuttered.
"Y/N, there you are," Nathan entered the room, much to your relief, but your anxiety still wouldn't go away. "You're on in five... Wait a minute, are you okay?" He suddenly noticed your panicked state.
"Yeah, I'm fine," you answered through your shaky breaths, attempting to stand up, "though I'm just a little nervous."
"Y/N, it's okay," Nathan rushed over to your side and helped you onto a chair. "Now, remember what I told you: start breathing in for four seconds."
Heeding his advice, you started breathing in slowly.
"Now hold it in for seven seconds."
You held your breath in for the aforementioned amount of seconds.
"Now breathe out in eight."
Eventually, you let go of your breath right after Nathan concluded. You repeated this method several times until you started feeling better.
"So, Y/N," Nathan asked, "are you comfortable telling me what happened?"
"Well, you see, Nate," you replied, trying not to let your anxiety conquer you, "it's my first time being on TV, and I haven't experienced something like this before."
"Mm-hmm," he nodded.
"I'm just... scared," you sighed. "Scared that I might make a fool out of myself in public, if you know what I mean."
"Look, I totally get where you're coming from, as I myself have experienced anxiety before when it comes to competing," Nathan empathized.
"Yeah, I-I know," you replied, knowing very well that your boyfriend did get nervous before a big competition. "I hope this means I'm not alone."
"Exactly," Nathan agreed. "But as long as you're having fun, I'm sure the audience will love your performance."
"You know what, Nate? You're right," you smiled through your tears. "I don't care if I'm 'good' at it, I just need to have fun with it. Besides, I've performed in front of a huge crowd multiple times, so why would this be any different?"
"So, does this mean you're ready?"
"I'm more than ready," you said with confidence. "It's showtime, baby."
"That's the spirit," Nathan cheered.
And so it went, Nathan introduced your performance, and with your ability to express your musical self, the audience went wild. You even starred in a couple of humorous skits with Nathan along with your favorite SNL cast members. As the show came to a close, you stood next to your boyfriend, your hand holding onto his.
"Thank you so much to this amazing cast and crew," Nathan announced, "and I want to especially thank Y/N for the amazing performances." He turned his attention towards you. "You did really well, and I'm so proud of you for it."
"Thank you, Nate," you grinned before you leaned towards his face for a kiss that made the audience and cast members cheer loudly.
"Goodnight, everyone!" Nathan concluded tonight's show as the both of you hugged and socialized with the surrounding cast members.

Blue Christmas (Nathan Chen x Reader)
Tumblr media
Title: Blue Christmas
Pairing: Nathan Chen x gender neutral!reader
Word count: 1,563
Warning(s): Separation angst and fluff at the end
Summary: Despite Christmas being the happiest time of the year, you and Nathan spend the day missing each other.
Author's Note: This fanfic was inspired by both versions of Blue Christmas (Elvis Presley’s and Austin Butler’s from SNL).
I know this image (which belongs to Character Media, btw) doesn’t give off Christmas vibes, but I thought it matched the mood for this fanfic.
This is the first fanfic where I’ve decided to include Nathan’s siblings in this one. Please keep in mind I do not know Nathan or his siblings personally, so I apologize if I got some things wrong about them.
***
I'll have a blue Christmas without you I'll be so blue just thinking about you Decorations of red on a green Christmas tree Won't be the same dear, if you're not here with me
And when those blue snowflakes start falling That's when those blue memories start calling You'll be doing all right With your Christmas of white But I'll have a blue, blue, blue, blue Christmas
Blue Christmas by Elvis Presley
***
Y/N's POV
You were in the living room, helping your mom decorate the Christmas tree, all while Christmas music was playing in the background. Tomorrow was Christmas, and you were excited for that day, not only because of presents or the fun that came out of it, but also because it gave you a chance to spend time with your boyfriend, Nathan, just like every year. As you were applying the red tinsel garland onto the tree, you heard your phone chime.
You took a brief break from decorating the tree, and opened up your phone to check your notifications. An Instagram DM, you thought. Who could that be? As you expected, it was from no one other than Nathan. To your surprise, however, the message read something that was opposite of the Christmas vibe.
"Bad news, Y/N. I won't be able to spend time with you tomorrow. I'm sorry. Merry Xmas."
"Really?" You texted back, tears starting to fill your eyes as you read the message. "But why?"
"Is something wrong, honey?" Your mom asked as she noticed you had been paying attention to your phone more than the tree.
"It's... nothing, Mom," you spoke hoarsely due to a painful lump in your throat. "It looks like Nathan and I... won't be able to spend Christmas together this year." Tears finally fell from your eyes down to your cheeks, and you covered your mouth with your hand to hide your emotion.
"Oh, Y/N, I'm so sorry," your mom walked over to you to wipe the tears from your face and wrapped her arm around you as a sign of comfort. "I know it's hard to celebrate Christmas without the ones you love, especially Nathan."
"I... just don't believe it," you wept, still waiting for Nathan's response. "Nathan and I literally spend Christmas every year, but this year... just won't be the same without him." You wiped the tears with one of your favorite Christmas sweater's sleeves.
To stop yourself from crying, you breathed deeply several times while your mom caressed your back. "Feeling better?" She asked.
"Not until I find out what's going on that's preventing us from seeing each other," you started walking away from the tree, about to leave the living room and head to your bedroom for some privacy.
"But wait," your mom called. "Aren't you going to help finish the decorating?"
"Honestly, I don't feel like it anymore," you exhaled. "You can get Dad to help you finish decorating it or whatever. Now if you'll excuse me, I'm going to my room," you dejectedly made your way to your bedroom, your mom watching as you left.
You spent the rest of the day in your room, sulking over the fact that you and Nathan weren't going to spend the best holiday of the year. But you also wondered, what could possibly be going on with Nathan right now?
***
Nathan's POV
Nathan was at home, spending Christmas with his siblings, Alice, Janice, Tony, and Colin. Prior to this, he messaged Y/N on Instagram saying that he wouldn't be able to spend time with her/him/them. Despite Christmas being the happiest time of the year, Nathan spent the day internally feeling remorseful over not being able to spend time with Y/N together.
Throughout Christmas Day, he managed to get through it by chatting and laughing with his siblings. However, he suddenly thought of Y/N and the memories they shared together, causing him to sigh and stare out the window, admiring the falling snow.
Nathan's siblings noticed as his emotions shifted from cheerful to despondent, with Alice asking, "Nathan, what's wrong?"
"Well, a lot, to be honest," he exhaled after a moment of pause. "But to sum it up, do you guys know the song Blue Christmas by Elvis Presley?"
Nathan's siblings nodded in response.
"Well, that's exactly how I feel about Y/N right now," Nathan explained. "Christmas just doesn't feel the same without her/him/them."
"Nathan, we all understand how you feel," Janice spoke with sympathy. "I remember when I couldn't spend Christmas with my husband Orestes when we got together."
Nathan and the rest of the Chen siblings listened as Janice continued, "But luckily, we managed to see each other through video chatting, texting, and phone calls. So even if you can't see Y/N right now, that's okay. There's always next year."
"That's true," Nathan agreed. "But if only there was a way to make it up to her/him/them. Just an Instagram DM isn't enough." He suddenly remembered the local park that he and Y/N frequented, whether it was for romantic dates or when Y/N needed some time to cool off. "Wait a minute, I think I've got an idea," Nathan got up to grab his jacket and scarf.
"Dude, where you going?" Colin questioned as he and the rest of the siblings saw Nathan head out.
"I'm gonna go outside for a bit," Nathan replied as he lightly wrapped his scarf around his neck. "I know there's a good chance I won't be able to see Y/N, but I just need to get this guilt I'm feeling off my mind."
"That's understandable," Janice replied, "but Nathan, please be careful out there."
"I will," Nathan nodded. "I'll be back soon, you guys."
Nathan's siblings wished him luck as he left to the park.
***
Y/N's POV
You spent most of Christmas Day in your room, grieving over not celebrating the day with Nathan. In fact, it was your first Christmas being away from each other ever since the two of you got together. You barely unwrapped your presents, you refused the holiday food your parents made, and partaking in these activities made you feel depressed. While lying alone in bed, you were on your phone, gazing at Nathan's Instagram photos, his most recent ones portraying him celebrating with his siblings. He must be doing alright, you thought. At least you felt slightly better knowing about this, but you still wanted to know why Nathan couldn't spend time with you. Since all the Christmas vibes taking place at your house were stressing you out, you decided to head out to the park, since that's where you usually frequented when you were stressed, but not before you had to put on your hoodie to make yourself more comfortable. It was also the same park where you and Nathan shared romantic walks together. On your way to the park, you finally felt some freedom from the Christmas mood and the grief you were feeling.
***
Epilogue
You arrived at the park, all while admiring the snow that was falling lightly. To your relief, the park was empty of people, which allowed you to have some time alone in your thoughts while gazing at the park's large Christmas tree, with blue glowing lights, that stood in the center. Unbeknownst to you, however, someone was also there alone, but you barely acknowledged each other's presence. You softly treaded towards the tree and let out an exhale.
"With Nathan and I not celebrating today together, this wasn't the best Christmas ever," you began to spoke to yourself. "While I don't care if we don't see each other physically, all I want for this year is just an explanation for why this happened." You looked around the park to make sure there was no one around. Without hesitation, you began to sing tenderly.
"I'll have a blue Christmas without you I'll be so blue just thinking about you Decorations of red on a green Christmas tree Won't be the same dear, if you're not here with me"
"And when those blue snowflakes start falling," you stopped to hear a familiar voice sing this lyric so beautifully, but you refused to turn to who it was for the sake of surprise. "That's when those blue memories start calling."
"You'll be doing alright, with your Christmas of white," you continued.
"But I'll have a blue, blue, blue, blue Christmas," you both finished before turning around. You froze in surprise to see his familiar but beautiful face. "... Nathan?"
He nodded while grinning to know that he was right here in front of you.
Tears started welling in your eyes as you quickly rushed over to embrace him. "I missed you so much!" Your voice muffled as you sobbed.
"I'm so sorry, Y/N," Nathan said as he passionately kissed your cheeks, which were wet from the tears.
"So, why couldn't you spend Christmas with me?" You asked hoarsely due to the painful lump in your throat after pulling apart from the hug.
"Well, it's a lot," he replied, "but most of all, with everything that was going on, I just didn't have the time to spend today with you." His apologetic eyes flickered as you gazed into them. "I hope you can forgive me, Y/N."
"It's alright, Nate," you whispered. "But I just learned that even if we can't see each other, what matters more is that we love each other."
"And that's what Christmas should be all about," Nathan commented. "I love you so much."
"Love you, too," you said before placing your hands on his cheeks and giving him a loving and passionate kiss on the lips, all while being engulfed in blue light and feeling the snow gently fall on you.

Santa Tell Me (Nathan Chen x Reader)
Tumblr media
Title: Santa Tell Me
Pairing: Nathan Chen x gender neutral!reader
Word count: 1,526
Warning(s): Paranoia, past mentions of Y/N’s ex and cheating, and fluff :3
Summary: All you ever want for Christmas is someone to love you all year long... and you know just the right person for it.
Author's Note: This isn’t my best story, so I’m not too proud of this one. I did my best to make the story as faithful to the song that inspired it as possible, though.
Also, spot some song lyric references throughout this fanfic!
***
Santa, tell me if you're really there
Don't make me fall in love again if he won't be here next year
Santa, tell me if he really cares
'Cause I can't give it all away if he won't be here next year
Santa Tell Me by Ariana Grande
***
December 24
You were attending a Christmas party at your friend's house, with people around your age chatting and laughing, all while Let It Snow was playing ominously. You sat alone in the kitchen, sipping your mug of hot chocolate while watching the other partygoers. Today was Christmas Eve, and you were dreading over the fact that you weren't going to get together with your crush, the one and only Nathan Chen, by tomorrow, let alone next year.  You even made a promise to yourself that you wouldn't fall in love ever again if you and Nathan broke up within a year. You eventually lost your train of thought when you saw that Nathan was attending the party as well. Your negative feelings and thoughts vanished as you saw him enter the kitchen.
"Hey, Y/N," Nathan greeted. "You okay in here?"
"Um, yeah," you grinned, trying not to spill your feelings in front of him. "Just excited for tomorrow, that's all," your cheeks glowed a pinkish red as you spoke.
"I can totally see that," he agreed, sitting next to you. Your heart fluttered as he did this. After a moment of silence, Nathan asked, "So, anything you want that day?"
Your eyes flickered as you gazed into his. Should I tell him how I feel? You thought. Moreover, is this love or just a friendship? Questions like these gave you butterflies, but you did your best to answer his question without brushing your feelings off. "So you see," you answered, "all I want for tomorrow is someone who genuinely loves me."
"Okay," Nathan nodded, listening along.
"I just want a lover who accepts and respects me for who I am, and a relationship that'll last all... year... long," as you brought your face closer to Nathan's, you gasped and turned away from him, your entire face red with embarrassment. "I'm so sorry," your voice muffled as you covered your face with your hands. "I didn't mean to..."
"Hey, it's okay," Nathan reassured, his hand on your back as a way of comforting you. "I get why you want someone to love you since what happened last year."
You suddenly remembered last year's Christmas. On that day, you fell in love with your ex and even shared your first kiss with him under the mistletoe. Your relationship with your ex lasted until New Year's Day, when he wasn't by your side. You thought he went missing until you found him with another lover. This ultimately broke your heart, and because of that, it made you hesitant to go out with someone again. You even told Nathan about it, who witnessed the whole ordeal. But now that a year has passed, and Nathan was there for you even in your darkest times throughout this year, things were changing, but it was hard to tell if he loved you or saw you as a friend.
"Yeah, I know," you said, trying not to tear up over what you remembered and blinking the tears away. "But I hope that won't happen again," you smiled with determination. Despite your heartbreak, you decided not to give up, and hearing Nathan's story of how he persevered on the ice for four years was what inspired you to keep going. But like him, you couldn't face it alone. You got up to leave the kitchen, with Nathan following you from behind, when you looked up to find a mistletoe in the doorway to the living room. You blushed as you turned to Nathan, who blushed in return.
"Um, I'm not sure I like where this is going," he stuttered.
"You know what?" You suggested, examining the mistletoe. "How about we avoid it? Besides, there's more to a mistletoe than just kissing under it," you giggled.
"You're right," Nathan commented, laughing along.
You and Nathan spent the rest of the party, having a good time and feeling Christmas all around. The Christmas spirit was enough to distract you from your paranoia that you and Nathan wouldn't end up together.
***
December 25
You woke up to the sound of bells jingling from outside. That meant today was Christmas Day, and it was about time you and Nathan got together. You even remembered writing a letter to Santa Claus that you wanted a lasting relationship and placing it next to the milk and cookies on a small table besides the fireplace the previous night. Promptly, you climbed out of the bed and headed downstairs to the living room, only to find nothing. However, you turned to the table next to the fireplace. To your surprise, the plate of cookies and glass of milk were empty, and the note was nowhere to be found. You turned around to hear grunting noises and a shadow emerge from the hallway. You froze in shock, thinking it was Santa, only to find that it was Nathan instead. You suddenly remembered letting him stay over at your house the night before due to the chilly and snowy weather. You both blushed at the sight of each other.
"So Nathan," you grinned, "I just want to say, Merry Christmas."
"Thanks, Y/N," he replied. "And I love you."
You both gasped simultaneously, with Nathan covering his mouth with his hand. You couldn't believe it! Nathan just confessed his feelings for you! But you couldn't tell if he was being genuine or he was joking.
After a moment of pause, you cleared your throat and spoke, "Um, yeah, about that, Nathan..." you walked closer to him, and whispered, "I love you too."
You and Nathan embraced each other, your cheeks rosy red. For once, the love was real, and Nathan was the fire in your cold, banishing your paranoia once and for all.
***
Epilogue
Throughout Christmas Day, you sat by the fireplace, all while gathering your thoughts about Nathan confessing his feelings for you. You knew he loved you all along, and you loved him as well, but you weren't expecting this relationship to happen, especially considering what happened in your previous relationship. However, Nathan was one of your best friends, so how could something like that happen again? Your thoughts were interrupted when you felt a figure sit beside you and wrap its arm around you. To your relief, you turned to find that it was Nathan.
As the two of you watched the fireplace, you spoke, "So, Nathan, I've been wanting to ask you something."
"What is it?" he questioned.
After a moment of deep breathing, you continued, "Did you really mean it when you said that you loved me?"
"To be honest, Y/N," Nathan paused before nodding, "I did."
"For real?"
"Yeah," he continued. "Believe it or not, I really liked you since the day I met you, even before that jerk of your ex cheated on you. Being the good friend that I was, I was there for you whenever you needed me, and throughout this year, it made me realize... that I was in love with you."
You listened, your cheeks feeling warm.
"But of course, I didn't want to express it right away," Nathan said, "out of fear that you wouldn't take it too well. However, you told me yesterday that you wanted someone to love you all year long..."
"... And that someone," you finished, "was you. Of course you loved me throughout this year! Why didn't I see that?" You grinned, feeling a wave of relief over some much-needed closure. As it turns out, you and Nathan fell in love with each other within this year. "And you know, Nathan," you confessed, "I've had the biggest crush on you ever since I've heard you won the Gold Medal at the Winter Olympics." You smiled, your cheeks still red.
"Really?" Nathan blushed in return.
"Yeah," you nodded, "but it took me quite a while to accept these feelings, and our friendship really helped with that." You snuggled up with him and looked up the ceiling, only to find a mistletoe on there. "Uh, are we supposed to do this?"
"I mean," Nathan chuckled, "anywhere besides the lips would be fine, if that's what you want."
You nodded, consenting to his suggestion, and he planted a soft kiss on your forehead shortly after. You giggled as he did this and eagerly kissed him on the cheek in return.
"Well, looks like I have Santa to thank for this one," you commented, noting the flames flickering in the fireplace.
"Hey, what about me?" Nathan teased. "You might want to thank me as well."
"So that explains the milk and cookies that Santa was supposed to have?" You teased back, pointing out the empty plate and glass still on the table.
"And the missing note!" Nathan laughed. "C'mon, Y/N, I couldn't help it! I was hungry that night!"
"And curious," you added, shaking your head in amusement over the assumption that he read your note. "Oh Nathan, you know how much I love you. Merry Christmas."
The both of you burst out laughing. You were happy knowing that you finally got together with your best friend, therefore redeeming your Christmas and making your wish come true. ❤

Songwriting (Nathan Chen x Reader)
Tumblr media
Title: Songwriting
Pairing: Nathan Chen x gender neutral!singer!reader
Word count: 545
Warning(s): None :)
Summary: You and Nathan write a song together.
Author's Note: I don’t have much to say... This fanfic just popped into my head out of nowhere.
GIF is from this video.
***
"La la la la," you sang as you played a few notes on the piano in the living room late at night. However, you were out of words to sing, and you struck the keys in frustration. "Ugh, why can't I get it right?" You grunted.
"Everything okay, Y/N?" You heard your boyfriend, Nathan, ask as he was coming into the living room to check on you. "Besides, what are you doing here late at night?"
"To be honest, Nate," you sighed, turning away from the piano towards him. "I'm trying to write a new song, but I just can't think of any lyrics to write." You grabbed a sheet containing lyrics from the table beside the piano and passed it to Nathan for him to read. "Just read it and tell me what you think."
"Hm, I see," Nathan nodded as he peered at the incomplete lyrics. "Mind if I help?"
"Sure," you agreed, even though you were aware that Nathan was no songwriter. "I mean, I know you're not much of a music person, but I appreciate any help, really."
"Absolutely," he chuckled as he sat next to you. "I'll do my best."
You began playing the keys and sang out the following lyrics, followed by some la-las. Afterwards, you finished.
"Not bad," Nathan commented on the process of the song. "But you know what, how about this?" You started playing the same notes, at this time, with Nathan singing the lyrics. He came up with new lyrics that you never thought of before. The process ended with the both of you singing the last lyrics together.
"Oh my God," you gasped after the two of you were finished.
"What is it?" Nathan questioned.
"That... was perfect!" you squealed as you eagerly added the new lyrics that Nathan sang on the sheet. "How could you come up with these lyrics so fast?"
"Well," he chuckled, his cheeks tinged with a bright red, "it just came out of nowhere, I guess."
You both laughed. Despite Nathan having little to no experience in songwriting, you were surprised to learn that he could come up with the lyrics for your new song in no time. But considering he wrote two books, it was no shock. Once you finished writing the lyrics, you got up from the bench and were about to head upstairs to bed, when you stopped and turned to Nathan. "Um, Nate?"
"Yeah?" he replied, also getting up to leave the piano.
"I just want to say," you continued, "thank you so much for helping me write this new song. I'm positive it's gonna be a hit."
"Aww, no problem," Nathan walked towards you, planting a soft kiss on your forehead. Your heart fluttered as he did this. "This means I'll be the co-writer, right?"
"Of course," you winked, kissing him back.
Within the next couple of weeks, your new song was released, which became a popular hit. You and Nathan's fans freaked out over the fact that he was credited as co-writer of the song. You knew for sure that this wouldn't be the only time you and Nathan had collaborated together, and you were lucky to have someone like him be a part of your career and life.

Imagine Nathan noticing you singing
Tumblr media
This takes place during a party/gala/event/etc.
You're outside the venue because you're overwhelmed with the crowds, need some time alone, etc.
To calm your nerves, you start singing in your beautiful voice as possible.
Nathan, who's in the same location as you are, overhears you singing and tries to find where it's coming from.
He eventually finds you, and you abruptly stop singing when he compliments your voice.
You try to deny it at first, but after Nathan convinces you, you soon admit, but you also confess that you're not that good of a singer.
However, Nathan tells you otherwise, which causes you to blush.
During this conversation, he encourages you to keep singing your heart out, making you have feelings for him.
Since Nathan enjoys your singing, he says he'd love to skate to a song sung by you, with you happily agreeing to it.
If you're a famous singer, then Nathan would see you in concert.
Nathan would use one of your songs for his performance at the Winter Olympics, which would earn him a gold medal.
He'd give his OGM to you and confess his feelings for you.
You and Nathan end up together, with your romance with him being all over the news, but you don't seem to mind as long as you're happy. ❤

Under the Weather (Nathan Chen x Reader)
Tumblr media
Title: Under the Weather
Pairing: Nathan Chen x gender neutral!sick!reader
Word count: 3,137
Warning(s): Sickness (COVID is mentioned!), panic attacks, some suggestive scenes, and fluff :3
Summary: When Y/N is sick, Nathan steps in to take care of her/him/them.
Author's Note: The weather was really nasty in my area the other day, so I guess that inspired me to write this fanfic. By the way, I’m not really sick as of writing this, so rest assured everything’s okay 😉
***
You were walking home with your boyfriend, Nathan, after a day of watching him practice skating. Prior to this, you felt a tickle in your throat, and your nose was rather stuffy. As you continued walking home with him, you covered your mouth with one of your arms and let out a couple of coughs.
"Hey, you okay, Y/N?" Nathan asked as he heard your coughing.
"Yeah, I'm fine," you replied. "It's just a cough, that's all."
"Are you sure? 'Cause you don't look too good," Nathan questioned as he saw that your skin had been pale.
"Well, I..." as you tried to explain your symptoms to him, you felt a sneeze incoming. You covered your mouth with your arm once again, in fear of not wanting to get Nathan sick as well. However, the sneeze was delayed. "Oh man," you moaned.
"Well, it is getting cold out here," Nathan said, noting the dark gray clouds that covered the sky and the chilly air. "C'mon, let's go home before it's too late."
"'Kay," you nodded before Nathan took your hand, and together, the two of you hurried back home. Although your house wasn't that far away, it felt like hours on the way. Eventually, you and Nathan reached home.
After you and Nathan stepped foot into your house, you immediately collapsed on the couch in the living room. At this point, you felt your body getting hotter and hotter, to the point where your face was sweating. Your nasal irritation and sore throat were becoming more bothersome as you watched Nathan turning on the TV to check the weather.
While the TV was playing commercials, Nathan turned to notice your increasingly worse state. With a concerned look on his face, he moved over to you and placed the palm of his hand onto your forehead. "My God, Y/N," Nathan gasped, "you're burning up."
Without a word, you nodded before glancing at the TV to the weather report. Tomorrow would be raining heavily, it said. That meant that not only would Nathan be unable to practice skating, it also meant he would have to stay home and take care of you that day.
You sniffled as you heard Nathan advise you, "Y/N, please get some rest. You obviously need it."
"Okay," you whispered hoarsely before slowly getting up and heading upstairs to the bathroom. While there, you slowly removed your jacket, your shirt, pants, and shoes, to the point where you were stripped down to your undergarments. Despite your illness, you briefly took a look at your reflection in the mirror. Aren't I cute? You thought. You quickly grabbed your robe that was hanging on the door and put it on as you entered the bedroom. You collapsed onto the bed and drifted off shortly after.
***
You woke up to the sound of heavy rainfall. Despite having had adequate rest, you still had your fever, your nose was now congested, and your throat had worsened. You turned to find Nathan sleeping next to you. He just looked so cute when he was asleep. You smiled and fell back asleep, only to wake back up startled when you heard the alarm clock beeping.
Nathan turned off the alarm clock as he heard you breathe heavily through your mouth due to your nasal congestion. "Feeling better, babe?" he asked, turning to check on you.
"Yeah," you replied hoarsely to avoid irritating your throat, "a little." You then let out a couple of coughs.
"I take it, you're still sick," Nathan grabbed a tissue from the tissue box on the nightstand next to his side of the bed and gave it to you. You nodded wistfully as you gladly took the tissue from him and blew your nose in it.
"Alright, since I won't be practicing for today due to today's weather, and you're sick, I guess this means I'll have to stay and take care of you." Nathan placed his hand on your forehead and cheek to check your fever. You were still feeling hot. "So, is there anything you need from me, Y/N?"
"Some soup and tea would be fine," you whispered.
"Okay, good. I love you, dear," Nathan leaned in to kiss you, but you pulled away and shook your head, not wanting to infect him. You pointed to your forehead, indicating you wanted him to kiss you there instead. He chuckled as he leaned to kiss your head.
"I'll be back in several minutes," Nathan climbed out of bed and headed towards the door. Before closing the door, he turned and whispered, "Rest well, love."
You smiled and sighed as you laid back down on the bed. How could the cutest man on Earth be so kind and caring? You thought. As you rested for several minutes, romantic thoughts about you and Nathan crossed your mind until you heard a knock on the door. "Come in," you said as loud as you could despite your raspy voice from your sore throat.
The door opened, and you saw Nathan enter the room, carrying a tray containing a small mug of lemon tea, a bowl of soup, and some utensils. You sat up as Nathan carefully placed the tray over your lap, saying, "For you, my dear."
"Breakfast in bed?" you whispered as you took a couple of spoonfuls of soup. "Thank you so much, Nate," you romantically sighed before taking a sip of the lemon tea.
"It's the least I can do, Y/N," Nathan chuckled as he watched you ungrudgingly consume the soup and tea until both were finished.
As Nathan took the tray from you, you asked, "Is it alright if I come downstairs with you? I've been wanting to do this remedy involving my throat."
"You mean the salt water gargle?" he questioned.
"Yep, that one," you nodded.
"Oh yeah, sure," Nathan agreed as you climbed out of the bed to join him on the way to the kitchen downstairs.
As Nathan was at the lower end of the stairs, he waited as you slowly walked down them. He knew he didn't want to rush you, especially when you were sick, nor was he going to. Eventually you caught up with him to the kitchen, where you grabbed a plastic cup and poured some salt in it. You filled the cup with warm water and began gargling with it. While looking up at the ceiling during gargles, you were feeling pretty lightheaded, and it felt like you were going to pass out until Nathan came to your rescue.
"Thanks, Nate," you sighed after spitting out the remaining salt water.
"No problem," he replied, "but remember, I'm going to have to supervise you when you're going to do more gargles from now on. I don't want you to get hurt."
"That's really sweet of you," you complimented before you felt a sneeze incoming. Nathan quickly grabbed a tissue and passed it to you before you sneezed in it. You folded up the tissue after pulling your face back from it, not wanting to see your own snot that congested it.
After throwing the tissue in the bin, you froze to see Nathan holding an infrared thermometer pointing at your forehead. "Whoa, it's okay," Nathan reassured. "It's just a thermometer, it's not gonna hurt you," he chuckled.
You sighed in relief while also snickering at the idea that something as harmless as an infrared thermometer was going to tase you, let alone hurt you. You stood still as Nathan took your temperature, to which the thermometer read "100.4℉."
"Yep," Nathan said as he read the temperature on the thermometer.
"What is it?" you asked.
Nathan turned the thermometer to show you your result. Your eyes widened in shock as you read the numbers on it. I knew it! You thought. I've had a fever since yesterday. Your face soon gave a "wait a minute" look as soon as your eyes glanced from the thermometer over to Nathan.
"Why didn't you take my temperature earlier last night?" you questioned.
"Yeah, about that," Nathan explained as you raised a brow in skepticism. "I knew we've had it, but I couldn't find it when you went to bed that night. Should've known it was in the drawers all along," he nervously laughed while his cheeks gave a reddish hue, and your skepticism left as you couldn't help contain your laughter and covered your mouth with your hand to hide your smile.
"I did find it eventually, but you were asleep by then, so I had to wait until morning," Nathan finished. "Besides, I wasn't gonna bother waking you up from your peaceful sleep, especially when you were sick."
"Aww," you blushed as you covered your face with your hand, but immediately let your hand go as you knew that you shouldn't touch your face when you're sick. You quickly walked to the sink to wash your hands. Just as you were about to go back upstairs to bed, you turned to where Nathan was standing. "Um, Nathan?" You asked. "May I ask you a favor?"
"Anything, Y/N," he replied.
"In case you get, um, sick, because of me," you stuttered, "would it be alright if I take care of you? I'm not the best when it comes to taking care of people, but I'll try."
"You don't have to do anything," Nathan chuckled, "but I very much appreciate it."
"Thanks, Nate," you blew a kiss at him before hurrying back to bed.
You rested in bed while listening to the sound of rain, to the point where you eventually fell asleep. During this time, you saw visions of you and Nathan together, watching him skate, and your memories with him. All of this felt like a reality until you abruptly woke up to the sound of thunder. You quickly sat up and panicked.
"Hey, it's okay, Y/N," Nathan, who had been watching you sleep from the corner of the bedroom the entire time, rushed over to your bedside to calm you down. "It's just the sound of thunder. As long as you're indoors, you're safe in here with me," he whispered as he gently stroked your back with his hand.
You started breathing deeply and slowly as you felt Nathan caress you. Knowing that he was in here with you, your anxiety eventually calmed down, and you were able to breathe normally again. Your nose had been showing signs of improvement as you were able to breathe through your nose again, but you still sniffled. You took a tissue from the nightstand and blew your nose in it to prevent your nose from getting congested again. That's when you noticed there was an antigen rapid testing kit on the nightstand.
"Oh, you must be wanting to get tested for COVID," Nathan noticed you questioning the kit. "Not a problem, good thing I bought it earlier. Always be prepared," he chuckled.
You nodded in agreement as you helped him unbox the kit. Once everything was settled, Nathan started by inserting a cotton swab in one of your nostrils as gently as possible. You giggled as you tried to pull away from the swab.
"Hold still!" he laughed as he saw you recoil away from the swab.
"But it tickles!" you grinned while resisting the urge to cover your face with your hands. You rolled over so your face was on the pillow to avoid the swab touching your nostrils again, but Nathan flipped you back on your back and firmly bonded both of your wrists together with one hand, with the other holding the cotton swab. He got on top of you so you wouldn't move.
"If you want accurate results," he teased with a smirk, "you're gonna have to face it. So hold still," he winked.
Very gently, Nathan swabbed around your nostrils, one at a time, while you lay still. You tried not to giggle as he continued, but each time you did, he laughed along as well. Eventually, he was finished, and he got off of you and let go of your wrists, finally giving them a much needed break.
You briefly massaged your wrists as Nathan inserted the swab into a test tube filled with a clear liquid solution and twisted it several times. Once he finished, he sealed it with a dropper and squeezed three drops of the solution into the test card.
"This might take several minutes for your results," Nathan said as he set the timer on his phone.
"Hope it's not COVID," you sniffled, rubbing your nose with a tissue.
"I know," Nathan responded sympathetically, "but even if you do get it, you'll be okay. I promise."
You smiled and blushed as Nathan softly brushed his fingers from your temple to the bottom of your cheek. Even when you were sick, you still looked beautiful to him. Minutes had passed, and Nathan kept staring at your radiating elegance despite your ill state. Without any words spoken, he leaned towards your face for a kiss, with you smiling with acceptance this time, only to be interrupted by the timer going off.
You lightly facepalmed in mild disappointment as Nathan turned off the timer and checked the test card. As you sat up to check your results, you noticed that there was only one line under the "C" and no line under the "T" on the test card. Was this a good thing? You felt your heart pounding against your chest as you were worried about the result.
"Um, Nathan," you questioned in a faint voice as you read the line on card, "what does this mean?"
"Well, by the looks of it," Nathan explained, "you don't really have COVID. You only have it if both lines are under the 'C' and 'T.' So, I guess that's good news."
"I... tested negative? Thank God for that," you sighed in relief as you reclined back on the bed.
Suddenly, laughter broke out between you and Nathan, mainly due to the fact that the both of you had gone through the troubles of a salt water gargle, a temperature take, and a COVID test. All of this lasted until sundown, where you ended up coughing and panting due to laughing too much. After resting for several minutes to catch your breath, you got up and walked out of the bedroom when you heard Nathan ask, "Where are you going?"
"Going to do the salt water thing again," you mentioned as you turned your head towards him. "Wanna come?" You smiled and winked at him.
"Uh, yeah, sure," Nathan chuckled as he stood up to follow you. A giggle escaped from your lips, knowing that Nathan was going with you downstairs to the kitchen to supervise you on the salt water gargle.
Together, the two of you walked downstairs to the kitchen as if you were making a grand entrance like a married couple would during a reception. As you reached the kitchen, you eagerly grabbed a plastic cup and poured a few teaspoonfuls of salt in it, with Nathan filling it with water and stirring it this time. He stood beside you as you gargled with the salt water over by the sink, making sure you wouldn't fall. After gargling and spitting out the remaining contents, Nathan let out a sigh as a sign of relief knowing that you didn't fall, nor did he have to catch you. You tossed the cup in the waste bin when suddenly, you heard a couple of coughs coming from him. "You okay?" You questioned as you turned to him.
"Yeah," Nathan responded. "It's just a few coughs, but I'll be fine."
Your face briefly gave an "Are you sure?" expression before saying, "Okay. Now come on, let's head back upstairs to bed."
Nathan followed you as you walked back upstairs to the bedroom. You both landed on the bed at the same time, facing each other. You sure were tired from being sick since yesterday, while Nathan felt the same from having to take care of you, but despite that, it was worth it. You just wished your sickness was over.
"Before we get some sleep," Nathan whispered, implying that his throat was sore, "mind if I read you the story I wrote?"
"I'd love you to," you agreed while nodding.
Nathan opened one of the drawers of the nightstand and pulled out a copy of his storybook Wei Skates On. As you cuddled closer to him, he opened the book and read the words out loud, but not enough to irritate his throat. You quietly read along with him as you listened to his soothing voice and fell asleep as he finished reading. Nathan saw you asleep and softly kissed your head before turning off the lamp on the nightstand and drifting off as well.
***
You and Nathan were sleeping soundly together in bed when the morning sunrise had engulfed you two from outside the window. You could tell that the rain was over as you rubbed your eyes and then sat up to look out the window. You also noticed that your fever had gone down, you could breathe through your nose again, albeit with a few sniffles, and the pain in your throat was getting better. Your eyes glanced over to Nathan as he slowly woke up in return. He stopped to notice that you were getting better, judging by your blissful expression. "'Morning, Nate," you winked.
"'Morning, Y/N," Nathan replied as if his nose was congested. "I see you're getting better..." He then let out a sneeze. "'Scuse me," he sniffled as he rubbed his nose.
"No, no, no, don't touch your face like that," you warned in a soft voice as you sat on his lap facing towards him and grabbed a tissue from the tissue box. Nathan blushed as he noticed your undergarments peeping out from your robe; he was almost aroused. You handed the tissue to him as he took it and blew his nose in.
"Thanks, babe," Nathan sighed as he set the used tissue on the nightstand.
"Well, I guess now that you're sick, and I'm getting better," you whispered in a sultry tone, "looks like it's my turn to take care of you."
"Oh yeah," Nathan exhaled, remembering your promise from yesterday. "I remember that now."
You giggled before proceeding to plant a kiss on Nathan's forehead. You pulled back and said, "Love you, Nate."
"Love you too, Y/N," he replied. "Thanks for taking care of me."
"No problem," you continued. "And thank you for taking care of me yesterday. I honestly appreciated it."
The two of you shared a kiss before you exited the bed and headed downstairs to the kitchen to prepare soup and hot tea for him.

On Sunday Morning (Nathan Chen x Reader)
Tumblr media
Title: On Sunday Morning
Pairing: Nathan Chen x gender neutral gamer!reader
Word count: 1,090
Warning(s): Though not really a warning, there is some fluff in this story 🥺
Summary: Nathan wakes up to find a Sunday morning routine that Y/N does.
Author's Note: I don’t have any words... Let’s just say this fanfic was inspired by me having to wake up almost every Sunday morning to play ACNH to buy turnips in-game.
***
You were in bed, cuddling warmly with Nathan. While sleeping, you were aware that today was your first Sunday since moving in with him. You woke up to take a look at the alarm clock that was on the drawer next to the bed. 4:59 AM, it read. That meant now was the time to get your Nintendo Switch to play Animal Crossing: New Horizons, and to buy turnips in the game. But you did not want to abruptly wake your boyfriend up from his peaceful slumber, and you normally wouldn't wake up this early. You softly planted a kiss on Nathan's forehead before you carefully climbed out of the bed, grabbed your Switch, and headed downstairs to the living room, all while trying not to make any noise. Once you landed on the couch, you turned on your Switch and wandered around your island in-game.
About an hour after you left, Nathan woke up to the alarm clock beeping. "Morning, Y/N," he opened his eyes only to find that you were not on the bed. "Y/N?" He quickly sat up, his eyes darting all over the room. "Where'd you go?" He whispered before climbing out of the bed and and exiting the bedroom to find you. "Y/N? Y/N, where are you?"
As you were busy playing your game in the living room, you heard Nathan call your name. "Oh shoot!" you whispered before exclaiming, "I'm downstairs, Nathan!"
Eventually, you saw Nathan heading downstairs to find you. "There you are, Y/N!" Nathan sighed in relief at the fact that you were in the living room all along. "I've been looking all over for you since I woke up." He stopped to notice the Nintendo Switch that was being held by both of your hands.
"Oh!" You gasped and stuttered, "Nathan, I-I can explain..."
"What are you doing in the living room with your console early in the morning?" he questioned.
"Yeah, about that," you sat up and moved to the end of the couch, inviting Nathan to sit next to you. "Please sit here, I've got something to show you."
Nathan obliged and headed over to the couch, instantly snuggling with you. "So, what's this about?"
You showed Nathan your Switch, which portrayed your character interacting with a small female boar wearing a blue kimono style dress, a white headscarf, and a basket of turnips on top of her head. One notable feature is a drip coming from her left nostril. "You see that small boar wearing turnips on her head? That's Daisy Mae, she visits my island every Sunday to sell turnips."
Nathan watched as your character bought the turnips from Daisy Mae, with the latter chanting a rhyme, "Turnips, turnips, watch them rise! Try to earn a nice surprise!"
"So, what do you do with the turnips in the game, exactly?" Nathan chuckled.
"You can do pretty much anything," you explained. "You can sell them, you can eat them, and you can even use them as ingredients."
"Wow, that's amazing," Nathan commented.
"But there are some downsides when it comes to turnips," you warned. "For starters, you can't sell turnips on Sundays, and if you don't do anything with your turnips by next Sunday, they'll rot. Like this," you directed your character to an area of your island where a spoiled turnip was being swarmed by ants.
"Oh, yikes," Nathan slightly cringed as he watched your character catch the ants with his/her/their net.
"On the bright side, though," you pointed out as your character caught the ants, "spoiled turnips can be used to catch ants."
"That's really cool," Nathan sighed as he learned that spoiled turnips could be used as a silver lining in the game. "So, what are you going to do with your turnips?"
"You see, Nathan," you sighed, "I've been wanting to make some money, er, Bells, for my island." You showed him the current state of your island, which was far from the way you wanted it to be. "But, in order for it to happen, I have to spend so much Bells on certain things, such as relocating houses, building and getting rid of bridges and inclines, you get the gist."
"I see," Nathan nodded sympathetically as he saw how imperfect your island was.
"But I'm not gonna worry about that right now," you acknowledged. "From now on, I wanna spend some time having fun in the game, while also making sure I have enough materials for my island. I'm not giving up, no matter what happens."
"That's the spirit!" Nathan praised, being reminded of how he persevered since his time at the 2018 Winter Olympics. "I knew you're not gonna give up, despite your financial problems... in-game, of course."
You blushed and felt your heart flutter at Nathan's comment. Ever since the day you met him, you were inspired to keep your head up despite the obstacles that you were facing in your lifetime, and to have someone like Nathan encourage you to keep going just made you love him even more. You collapsed on his chest and let out a sigh, "Thanks, Nathan. You're the best boyfriend I could ever ask for. And I'm sure as heck I'll reach my goal someday."
"That's my girl/boy/lover," Nathan softly kissed your forehead as you giggled.
"So the more turnips I buy," you continued as you kept playing your game, "the more money I'll make just by selling them the next days after today."
"See, I knew you can do it!" Nathan started teasing you by repeatedly pecking his lips all over your face and neck.
"Nathan, stop, I'm in the middle of playing my game!" You laughed as you squirmed around from being kissed until Nathan slowly came to a stop.
You felt Nathan wrap his arms around you as the both of you lay down on the couch. "So, shouldn't we be having breakfast right now?" You wondered as you were finished placing your turnips on your island to prepare for selling them tomorrow.
"How about I watch you play for a couple of more minutes? We've got plenty of time all morning," Nathan placed his chin on your head.
"You're right," you replied. "I love you, Nate."
"Love you too, love," Nathan planted a kiss on your head.
The both of you spent the rest of the morning on the couch, with you explaining the basics of the game to Nathan, until your Switch gave the "low battery" warning.

Skating With You (Nathan Chen x Reader)
Tumblr media
Title: Skating With You
Pairing: Nathan Chen X gender neutral!reader
Word count: 2,322
Warning(s): Mild suggestive themes
Summary: Y/N learns how to ice skate with Nathan Chen for the first time.
Author's Note: I don’t have any experience in ice skating, so I apologize if I got some things incorrect. I did research on some of the basics of it, though, so I don’t think it should be much of an issue.
***
You were at your local ice skating rink with your boyfriend, Nathan. It was your first time learning how to skate, so while you were excited, you were also nervous. However, considering Nathan has more experience in the field than you, you had nothing much to worry about, and he even promised you prior to this that he would teach you what to do if you fell. As you were sitting on the benches outside of the rink to change into your skates, you noticed that Nathan had finished before you, which distracted you from tying the laces of your skates properly.
"Great," you grunted while struggling to tie the laces again, "this is what happens when you look all so cute in front of me."
"Mind if I help?" Nathan offered, though to you, it sounded like he was teasing.
"Oh, please," you teased back. "Don't worry about me, I got this."
Eventually, you got the laces of your skates tied, only for them to be loose again dramatically.
"Aw shucks!" You lightly placed the palm of your hand onto your face in minor disappointment. "Here, let me just..."
"Allow me," Nathan arrived to tie the laces of your skates before you could finish.
As you watched him fix the laces, you couldn't help but blush, and you could feel your heart skip a beat or two. You kept staring at Nathan, distracting you from the process until he said, "There, all finished."
You took a look at the laces of your skates. You noticed they were finally tied the way you wanted.
"You did a really great job," you commented as you got up from the bench.
"Thank you," you planted a kiss on Nathan's cheek, to which he blushed and smiled in response.
Nathan followed you as you headed over to the rink. You nearly tripped on your way; it felt rather awkward to be walking on skates for the first time. Luckily, your hands reached the rink wall and held onto it to break your fall just before Nathan could catch you.
"Whoa, you okay?" Nathan grabbed onto your arms so you could get up and let go of the wall. "You gotta be really careful when you're on skates."
"I'm fine, thanks for asking," you turned to Nathan and held onto his hand before turning back to enter the rink.
As you entered the ice, you noticed that the surface felt quite smooth. It was a lot like roller skating, but unlike that, at least you didn't feel like you were going to fall randomly or shaky. Even better was that your hand was on Nathan's.
Very carefully, the two of you skated over on the side of the rink to a less crowded area, so it would be easier to learn how to skate without bumping and knocking onto other people in the way. At last, Nathan's hand let go of yours, so he was standing across from you.
"Alright, Y/N, since this is your first time doing this," Nathan started, "we're going to start off with the basics."
You gulped, but also nodded. This was one of the moments you had been waiting for. It was scary, of course, but you were positive that it was going to be a lot of fun with Nathan's teaching.
"One the first things you'll learn is to practice falling and getting up," Nathan demonstrated as he went on to do a pretend fall. You slightly cringed as he fell, but you knew he was alright.
Taking what you had learned, you slightly bent your knees and leaned forward. Soon, you glided over and landed on your side, only to find that you landed right next to Nathan. The both of you glanced at each other in the eyes before blushing and turning away, boy, were you both cute. Your eyes eventually turned back to Nathan shortly after.
"Now here is how you get back up," Nathan rolled over so that both of his knees were on the ice. "Start off with both of your knees."
You did exactly what Nathan told you and stood on the ice with both knees.
"Now you're gonna put one knee up," Nathan lifted up one of knees so that one knee was on the ice, the other up, and placed both of his hands on the knee that was up, "and place both of your hands on it."
You did exactly as Nathan did.
"Now push yourself up," Nathan pushed his knee and got up on both of his skates.
You pushed yourself up and realized you were on your two feet again. You did it! You finally learned how to get back up on the ice. You smiled at yourself, proud that you learned something new.
"So, what's next?" You asked in a rather suggestive tone.
Nathan blushed, but quickly brushed off the tone of your voice as he stated, "Let's keep practicing on falling and getting back up before we can start with the simple moves."
"Alright," you smirked. You knew how well this was going to go.
And so it went, the both of you continued practicing your falls and get-ups. Each time you did it, you couldn't help but laugh, it sure was a lot of fun! And each time you fell, you landed closer to Nathan than the last one, and your heart would flutter every time it happened.
After some time, it was finally time to move on to the next step: Learning how to move forward.
"So this next step is pretty simple," Nathan started walking on the ice as if he were marching, "you're gonna start moving by marching."
As you started marching like Nathan did, you began holding your arms out to prevent yourself from falling.
"Now start moving forward like this," Nathan moved forward doing "scooter" steps.
You followed along, and as you continued skating, it felt like your fear of being on the ice had been lifted off your shoulders. You felt a wave of confidence overcome you, as you couldn't help but glide along in excitement. And with a mix of that and your feelings for Nathan, you started moving slightly faster than before, and it was impossible for you to contain your happiness.
"Whee!" You shouted as you slid along the ice.
Nathan watched as you glided faster. He noticed that during this time, despite your lack of experience in skating, you seemed to be having fun on the ice, and you skated further away from him. All was well, until at one point during the glide, you turned to where Nathan was. With the need to impress Nathan, you were about to do an Axel jump, something that Nathan obviously hadn't taught you before.
"Wait, Y/N!" Nathan shouted with worry shown in his face. "We haven't gotten to that part yet! Slow down!"
However, you ignored Nathan's warning as you were too excited to start your Axel jump. You jumped, kicked through the air, spun around. As you were flying through the air, it was like you could see everyone from a distance, including Nathan. Noticing Nathan's concerned look in his face, that's when you realized your mistake and landed, but not before you stumbled and fell on the ice on one of your sides.
"Whoa!" You cried as you landed on the ice. Fortunately, you weren't hurt.
"Y/N!" Nathan immediately skated to where you fell and crouched down as he got closer to you. "Y/N, are you okay? Are you hurt?"
You didn't respond. However, you held your hands out in front of him and pouted in a cutesy way, as if you were pleading for him to lift you back up.
Nathan slightly hesitated as he knew you could get up on your own, but being your boyfriend he was, he stood back up and sighed, "Alright, I'll lift you up, now come on."
Just as Nathan held onto your hands, your mouth changed from a pout to a smirk, and as you gripped onto this hands, you yanked him towards the ice, where he landed next to you.
"Hey!" Nathan let out a laugh as he was pulled towards the ice. "What was that for?!"
"Serves you right for being a great teacher," you teased as you placed one of your hands on his chest while giving a slightly naughty look, "and the cutest boyfriend ever. Duh!"
"Oh, come on!" Nathan slightly pushed you off of him and heard you giggle as he did so. "You know I'm nothing compared to the likes of Leonardo DiCaprio and Will Arnett."
"I know," you looked down at the ice in slight discontent. You get that Nathan was only joking as his way of being humble, but you did not want to hear any self-deprecating jokes or comments from him.
Your face lit back up immediately as Nathan held your hands and continued, "But as they say, beauty is in the eye of the beholder."
"And you are a prime example of that," you smiled and blushed as you directed your eyes from your hands to Nathan's face, which also blushed in return. "Besides, you're already famous thanks to winning the gold medal at the Olympics."
Nathan planted a kiss on your forehead before the both of you stood back up on the ice at the same time. "Care to skate?" Nathan offered, his voice giving off a gentleman impression.
"Oh, if you insist," you agreed, trying your best impression of someone from the Victorian era.
You held onto Nathan's hand, and together, the two of you skated around the rink, surrounded by all the other people skating. Despite blending into the crowd, it felt like the two of you stood out from it, as if you were a royal couple. A prince and his princess/knight/royal, you thought. With your arms hooked onto Nathan's, you leaned onto his shoulder, feeling all warm, both physically and mentally.
After skating a couple of laps around the rink, an idea popped into your head, and your face lit up. You turned your head towards Nathan and said, "Y'know, Nate, there's something I've always wanted to do on here."
"What's that?" Nathan asked, eager to know your desire.
You briefly let go of Nathan so that you were standing across from him. Your hands held onto his as you replied, "This!"
You started spinning around, with Nathan following along, while you both held onto each other's hands. As the pair of you spun faster, neither of you could help contain their laughter, while it was a romantic moment for sure, it was also a lot of fun. It looked as if everyone around you was frozen in place while the two of you kept spinning. Eventually, the spinning came to a halt, which brought you and Nathan close to each other in a hug. Your eyes flickered as you gazed in each other's eyes, and your cheeks grew rosier as you brought your face closer to Nathan's, as if you were leaning for a kiss.
"So, what's next?" You asked, wanting to know if there was any more moves Nathan could teach you.
"I would teach you more, but since you're already doing good," Nathan wrapped his arms around your waist, while your arms rested on his shoulders, "I think we'll call it a day."
"Does that mean we're done?" Your eyes shimmered eagerly.
"Yep," Nathan nodded before nuzzling against your face.
You nuzzled back, and the two of you stood on the ice, being surrounded by all the other skating people.
***
Epilogue
You and Nathan were walking on the way to your house after a day of skating. It was fun, but the two of you were exhausted from all the exercise. On the way home, you couldn't stop thinking about your first time skating, Nathan teaching you the basics, your first Axel jump, and your intimate moments with him. Eventually, you both walked onto the doorstep and let out a sigh.
"Well, that was a lot of fun," you commented, with your hands still holding onto Nathan's, as  you were standing across from him. "We should do this more often."
"Yeah, definitely," Nathan agreed, "I mean, it was your first time, but you were doing great! Y'know, something tells me..." he leaned over to your ear and whispered "Have you been practicing in secret?"
You giggled, not only because you felt his whisper tickle you, but also because you found his question so silly. "Of course not!" You laughed, gently pushing him away. "Besides, I wouldn't be into ice skating if it weren't for you."
Nathan blushed at your comment. Of course he was the one that got you into ice skating, but he was surprised to learn that you weren't into it until the day you met him. "Really?" he questioned.
"Yeah, you see," you explained, "I wasn't really into ice skating, but until I met you, that was when you sparked my interest in that sport. It may seem like I was trying to copy you, but in reality, I just wanted to impress you."
"So that explains the Axel jump you did earlier, right?" he commented. "That, that's actually really sweet of you to say, though you don't have to do anything to impress me," he chuckled.
"It is, indeed," you replied before walking close in front of him, longing for a kiss. "So, see you tomorrow?"
"If hanging out counts, then absolutely," Nathan leaned over towards your face, pressing his lips against yours. You kissed back, passionately enjoying every moment of it. You wished it lasted forever.
As the two of you parted lips, you spoke, "Thanks, Nathan, for everything."
The two of you nuzzled for the last time of the day before you watched Nathan walk away from the front yard of your house, waving him goodbye.

Watch You Skate (Nathan Chen x Reader)
Tumblr media
Title: Watch You Skate
Pairing: Nathan Chen x gender neutral!reader
Word count: 176
Warning(s): None
Summary: As Nathan is skating through the ice in Sun Valley, he can’t help but admire you from the crowd.
Author's Note: This is my very first X reader fanfiction, so I apologize if it isn’t perfect! I was originally going to start off my fanfics with Stan Laurel from Laurel and Hardy, but my obsession with Stan isn’t so hot at the moment, so I’m writing about Nathan Chen first, since it’s quite easier, and I have a lot of ideas for them. Also, I noticed there aren’t any X Reader fanfics of Nathan on here, so I thought I’d write them and post them on here as my way of giving this guy some love. 💕
***
Here you are with your friend at Sun Valley, Idaho, where you watch a certain Olympic Gold Medalist skate through the ice, along with axel jumps, kicks, and flips, from the audience. As he continues skating, it appears he can't help but be distracted by you and your elegance, so every time he skates past by you, he gives a lustful look in his face, which causes you to blush and smile. Your friend, who's been with you in the crowd the entire time, notices your reaction and asks "So, do you like Nathan Chen?"
"Wait a minute, that's his name?" You ask.
"Yep, it is," your friend replies.
"Pretty cute name if you ask me," you comment.
Your friend nods in agreement. As you take a look at Nathan again, he has finished practicing, and the crowd cheers. As you continue watching Nathan skate away, you sigh and say, "I may be awake, but boy, isn't he dreamy?" One of your hands is cupped to your cheek, and you smile as you're swooning over him.

Coming Clean (Nathan Chen x Reader)
Tumblr media
Title: Coming Clean
Pairing: Nathan Chen x gender neutral!writer!reader
Word count: 887
Warning(s): Shame, guilt, embarrassment, angst and fluff
Summary: When Nathan finds out about the fanfictions you've written about him, you have no choice but to come clean to him.
Author’s Note: Hoping and praying that Nathan doesn't get mad at me for writing fanfics about him. 🤞
***
You were coming back home after running some errands for your upcoming date with Nathan. As you entered your house, you found your boyfriend sitting alone on the couch on his phone, hearing giggles escape from him.
"What's so funny, Nathan?" You questioned, raising a brow.
"Hey, Y/N, you're not gonna believe this," Nathan laughed, showing what was displayed on his phone to you, "someone has written X reader fanfics about me. Isn't it funny?"
You squinted to see much better detail. Then you realized that your username was on the screen, which meant that Nathan had been reading your fanfics.
Oh snap, you thought. Your eyes grew large in shock, your face glowing a shade of red, that it had you covering your face with your hands and scurrying into your room in embarrassment, ignoring your boyfriend's desperate pleas for you to come back. You knew what was going to happen when you first posted your fanfics of him, but you didn't think that someone like Nathan would read them until now, especially considering that he wouldn't care about such things.
As you shut the door on the way to your room, you leaned back against it and plopped down, still covering your face. If writing fanfiction about your boyfriend wasn't the worst mistake you ever made in your life, you didn't know what was. That sheer amount of embarrassment, shock, and shame you had was overwhelming, you felt like you were gonna cry at any moment. You were alone in your thoughts, pondering about what was going to happen until you heard Nathan knock on the door and say, "Y/N, please come out."
You hesitantly opened the door to find him, his face displaying an expression of concern. "Is something wrong?"
You gulped before you could have the chance to explain. "You weren't supposed to know about this," you mumbled.
"What do you mean?"
As you tried to come up with an explanation, you thought up about what would happen if you were to come clean to him. If you told him the truth that you were the author behind the X reader fanfics, he probably would be mortified to the point where he wouldn't want to speak to you again, let alone go out with you. But wait, you thought again, even if he did find out, he would still like me as a person, right? It took a lot of courage and deep breaths for you to finally come clean. "Nathan, I think we need to talk."
"About what?"
"So... you know those fanfics you read from earlier?"
"Yeah," Nathan answered, "what about them?"
"To tell you the truth," you took a deep breath before you finally finished, "the person who wrote those fics about you... was me."
The last words that came out of your mouth caused the gears in Nathan's mind to malfunction. "Wait, what?"
"I-it's true," you stuttered. "But to be honest, I wrote those stories since before I met you, and... I just wanted to imagine myself getting together with you, which was a form of escapism." As you continued, you began to choke up, with tears threatening to well up your eyes. "But if you don't agree to that, then I completely understand. I'll delete the stories off the internet if you want, never write them again. And if you want to break up with me over this, then I'll accept it."
There was a moment of silence before Nathan spoke, "No."
Your eyes widened. "What do you mean 'no?'"
"Why would I break up with you over something as trivial as this?" He reassured. "If anything, your stories just made me be in love with you more than ever."
"But here's the thing," you objected. "You're nothing like the Nathan I've written. I can't just treat real people like they're fictional characters and vice versa."
"Y/N, things like this are nothing new," Nathan soothed. "Heck, you've no idea how many stories about me and Mariah are out there."
"And those stories served as the inspiration to mine," you confessed before you continued. "I don't expect you to forgive me, but I hope you're not angry about this."
"Y/N, are you kidding me?" he laughed. "Writing fanfics about me is totally fine."
"... You really think so?" You were surprised to learn that Nathan had handled this situation so calmly and maturely.
"Yeah," he nodded. "As long as you're not hurting anyone and having fun with it, of course."
You felt a wave of relief soar over you, that you finally felt comfortable. "Aw, Nate, that's so sweet of you," you squealed, tears of happiness finally falling down your cheeks.
Nathan wiped the tears off of your face with his hand before it cupped your cheek. "And if anything, you've officially become my favorite writer."
"Thanks, Nate," you smiled before you planted a kiss on his lips.
Shortly after parting away from the kiss, you suddenly had an idea. "Now that this has been dealt with, I think I have a fanfic idea I want to write."
"Really?" Nathan's face lit up in happiness. "That's amazing, Y/N. I'd like to read it once you're done with it."
"As you should," you said, the tone in your voice slightly sultry as you winked at him.

The Tennessee Tango (Nathan Chen x Reader)
Tumblr media
Title: The Tennessee Tango
Pairing: Nathan Chen x gender neutral!reader
Word count: 782
Warning(s): References to cheating/alcoholism/etc., panic attacks, language, angst and fluff
Summary: During the 7th Annual Scott Hamilton and Friends, Nathan and Y/N get buzzed and things get out of hand.
Author’s Note: Inspired by this clip: https://www.instagram.com/reel/C0C3bTkhfTc/?hl=en
Thank God I wasn't there when the 7th Annual Scott Hamilton and Friends celebration took place. Had I saw that in person, I probably would have had a nervous breakdown to the point where I might possibly hurt/unalive myself (It's complicated).
Also, this is the song that plays during Nathan and Y/N's dance: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iW71-sVyMzM
***
Today was the 7th Annual Scott Hamilton & Friends celebration, taking place in the Bridgestone Arena in Nashville, Tennessee. You were excited because not only did you get to be there, it also gave you an opportunity to spend time with your boyfriend—No one other than Nathan Chen.
Shortly after the performances were over, there was a dinner party taking place, with you sitting next to Nathan. You, Nathan, and the other guests shared some laughs as Scott Hamilton picked up the mic and started talking about him. Admittedly, you and Nathan probably had a drink or two during the process, so when it was time for the hoedown, this was where things escalated.
Prior to this, you dreamed about dancing with your boyfriend ever since you got together with him. While square dancing and boot scooting were all fun and games, you couldn't help but notice, from outside the dancefloor, that Nathan had been twirling a girl—one who looked like Mariah Bell—around. With eyes wide open and filled with tears, you gasped and ran out of the ballroom to the nearest bathroom.
On your way, you were hyperventilating nonstop, and when nausea took over, you locked yourself in the stall and released the contents out of your mouth and into the toilet. Part of you thought the vomiting was from the liquor you drank from earlier, while the other thought it resulted from Nathan apparently cheating on you. But wait, you thought, maybe what I saw wasn't real, it was just a figment of my imagination as a result of the alcohol. However, it didn't prevent tears from falling down your cheeks, nor did it prevent you from sobbing. After exiting the stall, you slowly walked over to the nearby mirror and sink and stared at your reflection. You noticed that the tears had practically ruined your makeup, so you did your best to wash it away from your face.
I'm such an idiot, you thought to yourself as you were trying to remove the makeup with water. I shouldn't have fallen for a player like Nathan. Who knew this would have happened?
As you were just finishing up, you heard a knock on the door along with a familiar voice saying "Y/N."
"Go away!" You shouted hoarsely.
"But it's me, Nathan." As he spoke, you could tell there was an undertone of regret in his voice.
You opened the door to find him standing in front of you, his facial expression filled with remorse. "Look, I'm really sorry..."
"You're not really sorry," you rebuked. "I saw what you did there. It almost made me feel like I wasn't worthy of you."
"But, Y/N, listen to me," Nathan stopped you in your tracks before you could leave, with your eyes meeting each other. "Look, I was the asshole in this situation, okay?"
You stood and listened before he continued, "I should have considered your feelings before dancing with some other girl. And most of all, getting drunk was one of the worst mistakes I ever made."
There was a moment of silence before you responded, "I know."
"But in the end," Nathan said, "it's you who I love, and it'll stay that way forever... whether you like it or not."
"So," you spoke, "what does this mean?"
"I take it, you forgive me?"
"I'll forgive you," you replied, "just on one condition."
"What's that?"
***
Back at the ballroom, upbeat country music and folks chattering continued until the lights went down and the music stopped, causing everyone in the crowd to gasp. Standing in the middle of the floor was no one other than you and Nathan. As the light shone towards the both of you, romantic tango music started playing.
Throughout the dance, Nathan would twirl you around, and the two of you waltzed in a way similar to that of the tango dance. You didn't really expect Nathan to be this good, but considering his experiences with figure skating and ballet, it was no surprise. The dance ended with you and Nathan standing next to each other, with your hands holding onto each other and the other arms stuck out, resulting in a standing ovation from the crowd, and roses thrown at you both.
"Should have known he had someone else," the anonymous girl who danced with Nathan from earlier spoke. "Bummer." She lightly placed the palm of her hand to her face in disappointment.
