Yeah, actually! I had a lot of special ones! There was the Lilligant I trained up back in Gen 6 that turned out really strong, and was a ton of fun to use. There was the dumb Adamant Alakazam that was the first Pokemon I raised to level 100 back in Platinum. My Meloetta and Diancie, which I admittedly never got to use because event legends are handled like absolute shit. There was the shiny Celebi I got from the Crystal release on 3DS eshop. There were my shiny Ultra Beasts, the Roserade I first bred Hidden Power Fire to in Gen 6 with max possible IVs for the skill, and so many monotype teams I built back when I was really into competitive. Not to mention, the Eeveelutions I used to make top 100 in the old Eevee Friendly tournament. And yeah, I'd love to battle with you any of them, but...they're gone. All gone. Bank decided that after two generations it was going back on its promise to be the forever means of preserving your teams, and instead of $5 a year for storage, it was now $10, and also the $20 for the system that already connects to internet to actually use it, and I couldn't justify that kind of nickel and dime bullshit from a company backsliding so pitifully. So when Dexit hit, there was just nowhere for them to go. They're gone, Nate. I reset those games, and the old PowerSaves data was on a computer that died. They're all gone now, and with them, all memory of their existence. Less than dead, they never were, Nate.

Interesting proposal by Nate Loewentheil in a guest column in The New York Times. Not only was his proposal thought provoking, but two of the comments regarding it by readers were also worth contemplating. Below are some excerpts from the column, followed by the two comments.

Here is a proposal for the environmental movement: Pool philanthropic funds for a day, buy a small plot of land in Washington, D.C., and put up a tall marble wall to serve as a climate memorial. Carve on this memorial the names of public figures actively denying the existence of climate change. Carve the names so deep and large, our grandchildren and great-grandchildren need not search the archives. This is not a metaphor. The problem with climate change is the disconnect between action and impact. If politicians vote against construction standards and a school collapses, the next election will be their last. But with climate change, cause and effect are at a vast distance. We are already seeing the consequences of our past and present greenhouse gas emissions. In coming decades, those emissions will wreak their full havoc on the climate, and it will take hundreds, possibly thousands, of years for those pollutants to fully dissipate. But in the short term, the most immediate burdens are borne mostly by the poor in America and distant people in distant lands. Misaligned incentives are at the heart of why some political and business leaders deny and delay. [...] I would first nominate those who have sown confusion over climate science, like Myron Ebell, who recently retired as director of the Competitive Enterprise Institute’s Center for Energy and Environment, where he sought to block climate change efforts in Congress, and served as the head of Donald Trump’s transition team for the Environmental Protection Agency. Mr. Ebell has argued that the idea that climate change is “an existential threat or even crisis is preposterous.” Then there are lawmakers who have consistently stood in the way of federal action, like the recently retired senator James Inhofe of Oklahoma, the author of the book “The Greatest Hoax: How the Global Warming Conspiracy Threatens Your Future.” [color emphasis added]

Look at what their graph predicted for 2020. Approaching 420 ppm CO2 and a rise of 1.2 C degrees above pre-industrial temperature - very close to what we actually got in 2020. Then look at what the graph shows for later this century, based on not reducing emissions. Very serious temperature rises, that could make agriculture very difficult in many countries. Nickelodeon Rebrand Opening

It starts off showing a television, which was showing nothing but static. But then suddenly, the camera zooms onto the television and cuts to what appears to a fancy train station of sorts that was orange, filled with hundreds upon hundreds of green tunnels.

This station was none other than Nick Central Station. It was the center of the Nickelodeon Universe, serving as a hub that featured gateways to each of the Nickelodeon worlds. It was here where the resident of these realm could congregate, socialize and travel to each other’s worlds as well. 

Just then, the Strato XL came flying out of the tunnel that led to the world of Retroville. But after a few seconds of soaring around, the Strato XL suddenly started to run out of fuel. This prompted Jimmy Neutron and Goddard to immediately jump out of the rocket while it was still in mid-air, deploying their parachutes in the process.

Soon enough, the rocket began falling towards the ground below. While that was happening, Lincoln Loud was putting up some streamers up on the ceiling via a streamer launcher, all while standing atop of a stand.

But just then, the rocket finally crashed, which caused Lincoln to stumble and fall off the stand (along with knocking a few spare rolls of streamer onto the ground). Luckily, he grabbed ahold of a streamer strand and began swinging around, screaming for his life.

It then pans down to SpongeBob SquarePants and Patrick Star, who were getting chewed out by Squidward Tentacles.

But right before he could continue nagging, Squidward stepped on one of the streamer rolls that fell off the stand and began barreling backwards.

Soon enough, Squidward fell down one of the many canals of NCS. Luckily, she landed on the glider staff of Avatar Aang, who was soaring across the water alongside Momo.

Upon seeing he was safe, Squidward began doing a few goofy poses, right before glance at the audience with a smile. But little did he know that there was a suspension bridge up ahead, which was about to be crossed by The Thornberrys. But it was already too late as Squidward hit his head on bridge, prompting it to spin rapidly, with Donnie on it. Soon enough, the bridge snapped and Donnie found himself swinging all over the place, laughing manically.

It cuts to a group consisting of Ren, Stimpy, Rocko, Heffer, Spunky, Arnold, Gerald, Helga, Norbert, Daggett, and CatDog were all watching Donnie swinging around with looks of awe.

It then cuts to a set of benches, where the Rugrats family were sitting. But just then, Donnie dropped in and sent Angelica Pickled flying into the air, screaming.

It cuts back to the group from earlier, who were now joined by Invader Zim, GIR, Dora the Explorer, Nate Wright, the 1987 Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, Beavis, Butthead, Jenny Wakeman, and Danny Phantom, who all looked up at the flying Angelica with awe.

It then cuts to Garfield, who was sitting on bench and getting ready to a chow down on a massive submarine sandwich. But just he was about to take his bite, Angelica landed right next to him and sent Garfield flying into the air.

Garfield eventually found himself sliding down the rails of a flight of stairs and sent flying again. He eventually landed on a giant ray of sorts, which the group from earlier were revealed to be standing under, prompting them to duck.

Just then, the ray was activated a shot a beam at a giant empty pedestal at the center of NCS, grabbing the attention of everyone there.

Once the dust, it was revealed that the pedestal now has a giant sign that said “ELODEON”, much to everyone’s confusion.

Just then, Cosmo and Wanda looked at each other and nodded. And with the snap of their fingers, the word “NICK” was added onto the sign and began glowing orange, prompting everyone to cheer with excitement.

I'm sure most of you reading this have seen my previous post how Nickelodeon could possibly be fixed.

Well I've also been thinking about what their new rebrand could be like.

And well, this is the opening for this rebrand, which I based off the opening to the Friday Night Nicktoons block.

The rebrand itself would see tons of crossover bumpers, heavily inspired by the ones done for the Sega Dreamcast and Kids WB!

I saw some discussion around Nate’s damage output, with many stating that no, Nate’s damage isn’t better than SS Serena, and therefore not entirely worth talking about. Which felt funny so I did some calcs.

“Seems like it proved them right.” Yes, but keep in mind that Circles cannot yet be calculated, and that we’re operating on minimum values. Nate’s sync is, at minimum, 110% more of its base value. Instead of 877, that value should be closer to 1200. Which should put it somewhere around 50k. Move damage is also, at minimum, 50% higher, so somewhere around 23k.

To put that into broader context, he outperforms Serena pre-transformation, but falls behind post-transformation, ESPECIALLY if Serena has Support role. On an individual basis, Serena is stronger. The tradeoff for that is higher demand and less team assistance. Serena needs +1 crit to spare a turn for Thousand Waves, or her damage drops significantly. She also offers fuckall to allies, while Nate is also buffing all Dragon damage, all Unovan damage, managing gauges better, and the option of Punishing Strike utility. Considering Nate solely as a damage dealer, no, he doesn’t outclass Serena. But his supportive effects make him a pretty solid teammate in ways Serena can’t match.

You can’t tag me a in a post with “The Uncharted Cookbook” and not expect me to ask about that one.

Haha, of course! The Uncharted Cookbook is a fan project that @cassiefisherdrake and I are working on to bring the world of Uncharted to life through food and drink. It's an idea we've been ruminating on since late 2021 when the official Tomb Raider cookbook was released and PlayStation Australia launched the PlayStation to Plate promotional campaign. It'll be framed as a collection of recipes that Nate, Sully, and Elena have gathered on their adventures all around the world. Each major location, character, and mystical artifact from the games will have one or more meals or drinks to represent them, such as Sully's Cargo Pilot cocktail, Elena's Macho Nachos, Flynn's Squidgy Beans on Toast, or the Ubar Brass Sharing Bowl cocktail. I don't have anything done up nice and ready to share from it yet, but the Cargo Pilot will be on the next seasonal menu at the Sorrow Drowner tiki bar in NC if you want to stop in and give it a try!
