Hi I’m a loyal fan plzease talk about Nells philosophy on love of I kill self

lol as promised in the tags from the crush meme

nell was raised by parents who were extremely in love. the kind of goofy embarrassing lovey dovey mother and father who still take each other on dates even though theyve been married for years... so for the first part of her childhood she had a very strong basis for what a happy and healthy relationship looks like

unfortunately when nell was thirteen his mother died in childbirth (unplanned and unexpected) and the shock and grief of the situation sent his father into a catastrophic depression that lasted nearly six years. he struggled to take care of himself, let alone his children, retreating from the world and leaving teenage nell with the burden of raising her two younger brothers, one of whom was a newborn baby. at the time she took this on with little outward display of resentment but it obviously changed her relationship with her dad irreparably

this also twisted nells perspective on love. if her parents could be so in love and so happy that it broke her dad to such an extent, then falling in love is an inherently selfish act. if you die before your partner then you are setting them up for misery and a high chance of them being a burden on those around them... so to nells mind its better for everyone if she never lets herself get that close to someone. doubly so when she becomes a superhero with the much higher mortality rate of that job

being friends with ted and witnessing boosters horrible spiral after he died only cemented this belief lol another example of "in the long run love just makes you miserable"

he dabbled with casual relationships in college mostly as a way to explore the sense of freedom that came with moving out after taking care of his brothers for most of his later childhood, but inevitably nell was always the one to break these off after a few months. didnt want the girls getting too attached and causing problems

this is a big part of why nell (in the canon ending) makes it all the way to dying without realising that their feelings for casey could possibly be requited. theyve spent a long time telling themselves that what they have with casey is "good enough" and that casey doesnt actually care about them past the free apartment and the sex... which of course isnt true. and nell dying actually does have horrible adverse effects on caseys life. sooo... i guess nell was actually right all along AVOIDANCE WIN

new york ending obviously detangles a lot of this. lots of conversations with ted about the vulnerability of love and trust and what not. shes getting there... its a tough belief to shake but having casey as a parasite does help to dislodge it. eventually

five things oh boy

1. I’ve always been told I’m too stubborn for my own good. Most times to my own detriment, but occasionally for the better. If there’s a shitstorm to be weathered, I’m your girl!

2. I’ve also been told I can’t hold a grudge for the life of me, which is also, unfortunately(?), true. I have a poor working memory, which is probably the main contributing factor, but its also very hard for me to hold on to negative feelings long enough to tally them up against someone/something. This can be frustrating, but I think it makes me more of an easygoing person, and helps with the above.

3. This is less a characteristic and more a soft skill, but I played a crap ton of tennis in high school, and then all throughout college, so its safe to say I’m still decent at it! Bring me your favorite middle-aged man foe, and I’ll have the bestest time snubbing his ass on the tennis court. 40-love, easy.

4. I love that I’m a Big Reader, and always have been. I was that obnoxious kid at your local library cupid-shuffling ten dozen books out the door before the librarian knew what was up. Pop-up books on ancient Egypt, laminated scholastic news magazines, magic treehouse the deluxe edition— basically anything that dared to exist in the Children’s section and/or adjacent to it, was mine for the looting. I’m a nicer patron of the arts now (I don’t hit the max # of books checked out quite as often), but I’m still prone to devouring a tasty stack of folk horror on a long weekend like those “72-oz steak” challenges for the die-hard foodies.

5. This last one’s more of a specific ability but whatever: I’m very sensitive to the smells of gas, motor oil, and blood. This has served me well once when we had a gas leak at our old house, but my mom (who, unsurprisingly, has the same freakish sensitivity) had already sniffed it out, so I was more her sidekick to confirm. Nothing too serious, since we caught it very early, but the distinct memory of only the two of us knowing something was off remains with me even till this day. Should I start offering my services out as a human bloodhound? Everybodys gotta sidehustle, amirite?

I’m back on my shit talking again! Anyways, I got some stuff to say about Lana Lang. That’s my good sis! She’s been through A LOT and I really like that she is tries to be kind, help others, and include people who aren’t really in her social circle. Not your typical popular girl/cheerleader trope that’s always bitchy and rude, but she’s definitely the girl-next-door. She’s also trying to find her own way in life while still grieving her parents. She’s also wise and I love her but…

SPOILERS ahead:

She has no good judgement of other people’s character even though she doesn’t want to be judged. Example: Tina from “X-Ray” BOTH Clark and Whitney were trying to tell her that Tina was a red flag and that she had it out for Lana. Lana was creeped out by Tina a little bit, but she brushed that off and ended up getting her ass chocked, knocked out and buried alive!! She could’ve been a goner but TY CLARK. 😍👏🏾 That shit was scary. I lowkey blame Whitney too because he could’ve done more.. because that’s YOUR GIRLFRIEND, but Whitney is another story. Another example is Lana’s stalker (I fg his name) the boy who turned into a bug from “Metamorphosis”. Lana, baby…if a gift box with no tag or label was placed on YOUR bed, chuck that shit out!! Idgad if it’s butterflies in there, that didn’t scare you a bit?? You also knew that dude had a creepy ass vibe and so did Whitney, but you still accepted to study with this boy at one point? Thank God something came up that she couldn’t make it, but STILL. What got me is that when dude pulled up in the stables and started walking towards her after THROWING HER BOYFRIEND LIKE A RAG DOLL , she’s just standing there and asking FKIN QUESTIONS! This girl almost got violated. TY AGAIN CLARK! 😘 I’m not trying to victim blame but these events are TWO EPISODES APART. Lana, imma you need to stay in the house for a little bit. How you go to school after almost dying twice?? WTH WAS NELL DOING? Pressed over a birthday party, but not cautious enough to want your niece be in your view after she almost got got? I hate when female characters are written to be pretty, kind, sweet, and got a 4.0 GPA, BUT NO COMMON SENSE OR DISCERNMENT. The 2000s were lit, but a mess. y’all can agree or disagree, this is just my opinion. I’m just yapping. anyways I’ll be back and I’ll be on Whitney’s ass and Lana’s denial of her feelings. oh if i see ONE PERSON complain about this weeks episode being filler. it's on sight.

harmony cobel is the real inventor of the severance procedure. she CREATED THAT. most likely when she was STILL A CHILD. and was told that if she ever sought credit she would banished. no wonder she was so fixated on not only mark but the severed floor as a whole: that is HER BABY. she works there to prove to herself that her invention WORKS.

she has been working for lumon since a child. she was told by JAME EAGEN HIMSELF that he saw kier in her. and then she was fired for something entirely out of her control, something that she could not have been able to predict or stop. the only time she was given credit for her creation was when it backfired and nearly killed the lumon heir. she only got credit when it failed.

she's so fixated on mark because she needs to prove to anyone, even if it's just herself, that her device WORKS. that even two people, who LOVE each other, who's grief permeates their entire life, can work with each other and never know who the other is. but to her it's also a failure, because NO ONE will know she was the reason it was successful. just another corporation, another man, stealing a woman's work and pawning it off as his own.

GOD I JUST DISLIKE HOW THEY ARE JUST CRAMMING 3 DIFFERENT STORIES INTO ONE

Like the anime is trying to cram the first novel, the prequel manga AND dmc 3 (and somehow needs to adapt 2,1,4 and 5 and its novels and manga)

AND IT SOMEHOW REMOVES TEMEN NI GRUE THE GATE AND MAIN STORY THING OF DMC3

IT TOO MUCH FOR 8 EPISODES

Its needs to set up dante and his prequel story AND Lady AND the political commentary AND Vergil infact they ran out of space to even have dante novel story. Adi tweeted about nell being in the anime NADA maybe in the second season BUT WE DONT KNOW ABOUT THAT. And this is very much and issue of netflix, cause the anime would have been better as a 12 episode long series so it has the space to develop dante, lady AND vergil as well as its political thing in a much more subtle way that ham fisting it, infact its probably so unsubtle from the fact its only 8 episodes with no guaranteed season 2. Like clearly the first season was forced to either choose to develop Lady or Dante and they chose Lady which inadvertently weakens Dante cause it doesnt have the space to develop Dante. Which weaken the overall adaptation cause despite how absolutely rocking Lady is fans want Dante. Like it establishes Dante as a similar state to himself in it prequel novel even doing the same job a merc that kills both demons AND HUMANS, BUT WE GET NOTHING MORE, theres also a the white rabbit who was the villian on the dmc 3 prequel novel BUT ALSO LADYS STORY FROM THE UNRELEASED MANGA, as well as adapting the lore AND THE NEW STUFF. Simple enough to say the pacing is wack.
