I genuinely don’t understand people who hate on Asuka, is her treatment of Shinji uncalled for, yes, but this doesn’t justify blindly hating her. Asuka is my second favourite NGE character, and she’s greatly misunderstood in my eyes.

She’s a child, just like shinji. She was forced to grow up, her own mother did not love her, and she was never nurtured as a child. she had to be her own parent, and she matured. I heavily relate to her for similar reasons, and her telling the audience that she never needed a stuff toy, and that she took care of herself, making her an adult, and that was deserving enough for attention was heartbreaking.

Her attachment to Kaji is also heartbreaking. To her she’s an adult, and she is deserving of his attention and friendship. So when she doesn’t receive it, she acts out and falls into a fit of depression.

Her character is beautifully written and i’m planning to watch NGE again just to do an analysis on her and Kaworu
