Love Letter to an Unknown Raver

Dear unknown raver,

A giant owl is watching over us as romantic fireworks explode in the evening sky. Drunk and dancing with my unique groove. The sands in the hourglass is running out. Her raven black hair, painted face in the dark, the two of us dressed in all black. Her outfit can best be described by looking somewhat like Milla Jovovich in the 5th element. Back to the story, I feel her getting super close now like she's feeling my groove. Shoulder to shoulder, time stopped, we danced close but never together. Even though that's all I wanted to do at that moment. It's like time paused and everyone around us gave us space, like they were watching a rom-com or some shit. I did nothing. It's embarrassing. Before all that, the fireworks go on and on, and on and on. Then a DJ with my spirit animal comes on, DJ Snake. I can usually be found in the Neon Garden, but I made it a point this year to never leave my rave family, wander off and get lost. Plus without a phone, I had to be the glue. He goes on to play house music and all of a sudden "we are family" by Sister Sledge comes on. I just laid eyes on you for a couple seconds beforehand and your dark eyes met mine. Like a raver version of Wednesday Addams crush from my childhood. She could've been my Morticia from the old black and white t.v series, not the Angelica Huston version. So while this classic disco song plays in the foreground, fireworks explode in our electric sky, my hardened heart's strings pulled, my eyes try to tear up, my emotions flood, love overcomes, as my brain flashes images of family Christmas gatherings. Dancing to that song, next to you made a connection in my head, maybe this could've been the start of a wonderful romantic comedy. Us, a family? But alas, my respect and admiration for women wouldn't allow me to grab your hand, hold you, and kiss you without expressed written consent. And my damn shyness. I get nervous when strings of the heart get involved. Still, I lay dormant with these cursed wordless lips. I wish I wouldn't overanalyze and think like this but this is what I do. I wish I could think a little less. You persisted to speak to me, asking for a light. A flame to which I'll humbly share. A flame that could've sparked a wildfire. All fires extinguish, even our sun, our star will one day snuff out. Anyways, we shared a joint together along with your homegirl, but you had my undivided attention and to me that shit was romantic as fuck. I should have asked for your name. Danced with you more than just in the general vicinity. I wanted to get close to you. By the time the joint was done, I was gone. I've been drinking that day, all day. A chance encounter I regret. After that, my memory escapes. A complete shut down of all my internal systems. As if I was Cinderella and the clock turned midnight and I turned into an African Wild Painted Werewolf. Like that I was gone. I awaken on the floor of the Falmingo hotel room. In a city dreamed up by Bugsy Siegel and not one statue of him in Paradise, Nevada. My deepest thanks Bugsy, salamat.

Back to the woman haunting me. Your fading memory evades me, I don't possess a superhuman eidetic memory. I'm forgetting how you look and this scares me. I don't want to forget. At this point, I wouldn't even be able to pick you out of a lineup. I was genuinely intrigued at the time and still am. I know your special in the few fleeting moments we shared, but I'm greedy for your love and I want more. I wish I would do more for love. I wish I could. I wish I wasn't too fucked up to spit game, to spit my one last final game. All I need is one love.

Sunday Morning.

Ain't going down easy. I wake up sad and depressed. Not because I've been rolling or on meth or anything. All I did was drink all day and hit your weed that blacked me to out. You drugged me and I wish to death that you would've taken advantage of me. I wish you would've taken me by the hand and kidnapped me to the ferris wheel.

All these thoughts run through my mind while going home down the long Fifteen. Google maps tells us there are closures at home near Victorville. So we jump off Nipton and take the scenic route home through Death Valley.

It was a beautiful ride and all I could think of was your act of kindness towards me.

The only thing left I'll have of you in the end is a memory seeing a striking view of a burned Joshua Tree landscape. Inside, I wanted the homies to stop off the side of this lonesome road and smell the burnt Joshua trees. And think of you. Now whenever, I see a Joshua Tree, burnt or not, I will always remember you. Like a rock thrown into a Japanese stone garden.

A nameless, beautiful, memory. A memory that is fading away without regular familiarity. No pictures taken nor a picture on a smartphone. The fact that I didn't have a phone to ask for your number is another of a million excuses to why I'm a fuck up. Maybe you were the one. The love of my life that I've been desperately searching for. Well, I don't really try and that is the point. I should be desperate enough to boldly find love. My hourglass is done and I can't find the strength to turn it over. I just want you to know how beautiful your soul is, the last thing I remember was you asking if I was "ok." With your thumbs up and I lied to you. I nodded I was fine. I don't remember leaving your presence. All I remember was the long walk up the stairs in defeat. You, asking if I was "ok," showed me that someone can care about me. And thinking about you relieves that sleeping giant inside me called depression. You know how to warm a cold heart by just being you. Smoking me out and giving me your attention. It should've been enough to let me know that you were cool and that I could tell you anything. A forlorn love lost in time. Another day will rise with the same sun and you will forget me. I don't want to forget you, but I will and that's the saddest part about this missed connection. I just want you to know that I would date you. I'd date you hard.

Monday, dark early morning. I'm writing you this love letter. Of things I should've said. I don't want to lose your memory. So I hope the universe hears the pleas from my cold, cold heart and connects us like a reliable plug. These are real sad boy hours. With Elton John's "Cold Heart" remix on repeat. If it's meant to be, we'll find eachother again. I'm gonna die alone with this strong sense of longing. Goodnight, sweet Princess.
