Allosauruses
Tumblr media
Allosaurus was part of a family called Allosauridae which in turn is part of the superfamily Allosauridae. This family included Metriacanthosauridae, Carcharodontosauridae, Neovenatoridae and of course Allosauridae. Now there are many species of Allosaurus including Allosaurus Fragilis, Allosaurus Jimadensi, Allosaurus Europus, and the very controversial “saurophaganax”. Allosaurus Fragilis is perhaps the most well known of these 3 or 4 as over 60 individuals of this creature have been discovered. We can not say the same for Saurophaganax however as only fragmentary fossils of it have been discovered leading to debates whether it was a large individual of Allosaurus fragilis or a completely different species, or even a different genus!

I was originally gonna do something for this country fair as of today, but now they canceled because of pandemic of 2020, that won’t even stopped me for posting #paleoart like a siats meekerorum now being more Neovenatoridae than to Megaraptoridae with more realistic versions and even more better skin colors and especially with Saurian lip. As my paleoart of siats is being better than last time since in 2013 and early 2014, now I could see it good. On the side note, I just finished up with my last two pages from my sketchbook started from last year in college’s drawing class to all away to lockdown as the start of 2020 and now then cardboard covers is easy to use to sketch, inked and colored with colored pencils. #siats #siatsmeekerorum #coloredpencil #coloredpencils #neovenatoridae #carcharodontosauria #allosauroidea #carnosauria #avetheropoda #theropoda #dinosauria #artistsoninstagram #sketchbook #myart https://www.instagram.com/p/CDcb-VPFcr1/?igshid=vculhi42pxl5

Aww, some dinosaur romance <3
Right Neovenator with the larger and pointier crest is a male and the other on the left with smaller ones is the female. Next time I should render them while they hold hands :)

Chilantaisaurus Tashuikouensis
Tumblr media
Chilantaisaurus is suspected to be a large carnivorous theropod from the late cretaceous period around 93.9 million years ago - 83.6 million years ago. However, because the holotype of the species is only known from fossils of the teeth, calf bone, humerus, the first toe bone, hip bone, thighbone and shinbone, Paleontologists are unsure of what the exact placement of the dinosaur is. It is mostly debated upon whether it was a primitive coelurosaur or a neovenatorid.  Stats: Length: ~36ft (11 m) Height: ~13ft (4 m) Weight: 2.8 - 6.6 tons (5600 - 14550.5 lb) Area: Mongolia, Zhejang Time: 93.9 - 83.6 mya Formation: Ulansuhai Formation of China Family: Neovenatoridae Species: C. tashuikouensis Reference used: www.deviantart.com/franoys/art…

Neovenator Salerii
Tumblr media
Neovenator was a large carnivorous theropod that was part of the family Neovenatoridae which was in turn part of carcharodontosauria. This large predator resided in parts of what is now the United Kingdom and France during the early Cretaceous about 125 million years ago. The first fossils of Neovenator were uncovered in 1978. More evidence of Neovenator was discovered later including parts of its snout, teeth, a front lower jaw, most of the vertebral column, ribs, belly ribs, chevrons, the left shoulder girdle, pelvis bones and a hindlimb. In total, 2 skeletons have been discovered up to today. Combined, they make up approximately 70% of the entire dinosaur.
Stats:
Length: 25ft (7.6 m)
Height: 8ft (2.7 m)
Weight: 2,200 – 4,400lb
Area: Isle of Wright, UK
Time: 132.9-125mya
Formation: Wessex Formation
Family: Neovenatoridae
Species: N. Salerii

Now, the fluffy version and my first time in using Blender’s hair / fur simulation. After adding the “feathers” you can literally comb your dinosaur and give him / her a nice hair cut. (Visit Blender’s “Particle Edit Mode” and you will find a brush named “comb”).
Aside of being artist, I’m now a dinosaur hair stylist, haha!

Finally the finished model with all of it’s textures and shaders. To me, Neovenator is a pretty dinosaur. Because of I don’t know if they had feathers or not I made a slightly modified version of this model.

Lighting...
My Neovenator model is now fully textured and can be posed, thanks to the rig I added to the mesh, but when it comes to presenting the model, I enter the mysterious land called “Lighting”. I roughly know what is a three-point-lighting setup is, but I want it to look artistic and not just like a simple render, but I notice that I probably need to examine this subject more closely, because you can transport emotions through a nicely illuminated scene.
Tumblr media
Two light sources can be daunting task, so many preview renders are necessary to find out if it looks nice or if it is simply boring. I mainly worked with spots within Blender to illuminate the scene. When color comes into play, then you have to consider if the chosen colors work well together and if they express the emotional atmosphere you want to convey in the scene. (I did a some other renders, where I wanted to have different colors of light.)
Tumblr media
I love these warm colors since the Neovenators are showing mutual affection, but you can barely see their faces.
Tumblr media
Better, but the face of the Neovenator, that’s face is pointing to the right side is still a bit too dark.

Normal and displacement map done and applied to the model. I’ll see, when I come around to make the actual texture, that gives the Neovenator some colors.

Started to sculpt first details into the model, Hope, this will make a good texture for the lowpoly model. I had to hide much of its body, because it would be too memory consuming. (Need a new computer with more RAM and better hardware.)

Current progress of my Neovenator model made in Blender. The pictures show the lowpoly model, which I can use for animation and posing for doing a render.
Well, I can now continue to sculpt details into the model and to add teeth and texture afterwards.
