AND HERE IT IS! It was really hard to not tell everyone because I knew for more than 2 years now. Please welcome Tameryraptor, a new name for Stromers carcharodontosaurid. Based on Stromers descriptions, drawings and newly found photographs the authors conclude...

...That this animal was distinct from the better known Kem Kem material. I had hoped it to be out before the Bahariya stream but oh well, I did a small update afterwards ;)

Carcharodontosaurus

Carcharodontosaurus is one of the longest and heaviest known carnivorous dinosaurs, with an enormous 1.5 m skull and serrated teeth up to 20 cm long. It reached about 12 m in length and weighed 6 t in body mass. Carcharodontosaurus is named after the shark genus Carcharodon, itself composed of the Greek Karchar, meaning "jagged" and odon, "teeth."

Result from the Bahariya Formation #paleostream! This piece felt a lot like coming home since my first ever large commission was about reconstructing the animals of Bahariya and Kem Kem.

The scene here shows a flooded forest filled with the fish, sharks and crocodiles that lived here. Oh and Spinosaurus is also here. I tried something new here by labeling the plants in a light gray.

The rough composition idea came up rather early but to refine it I actually printed out a bunch of template sheets and scribbled on them while drinking tea. The center piece here is Paralititan, being hollowed out by scavengers.

The size chart this time was something i already had, I simply had to rearrange some of my work. Some of these aren't 100% up to date anymore but these give you a decent idea of the fauna.

On top of that Julianne Kiely provided the references for the flora of this place. She has done extensive work on this and her graphics came in very handy!

My 25 years of palaeoart chronology...

My 2011 "Double Death" artwork was later the inspiration for a paper, by Donald Henderson at the Royal Tyrrell Museum. In it Don calculated the maximum mass two Carcharodontosaurus could carry (I'll post about the result later today). Here is version 2 of the artwork, with a pooping Limaysaurus, the sauropod species used in the paper's calculations.
