#monthlyroundup Finished April with 14 books. Though to be honest several of those were novellas. I knocked out 3 books for my @booksinthefreezer Reading Challenge. I only have 1 book left for that one and I'll be finished with my 12 horror. Maybe I'll double up and try to do everything 2x. Hello ! I was wondering if we could have some series recs ? I’ve really been into reading series lately. I love the author reader interactions and just the sheer talent of writers like yourself blow my Ming like whattt? howw do y’all make drafts, plot lines , general timelines of events , well rounded personalities etc it’s so amazing.

I also have some recs of my own. @saintobio has some amazing angst series like some real tear jerkers. You will love her suna one and she’s currently working on a gojo one, I am hooked, just like with unloving miya atsumu. Hope you enjoy

I also read @saintobio's works, too. Especially wastelands? Wow, I felt a lotta emotions and I'm so jealous of how she created such an amazing work. (my only issue and gripe are the names, bc y’know, it’s in Japan and all but that’s me) She really crafted a world so desolate that you can feel it from a macro scale down to the micro - which are the characters and all.

Buuuut, here’s a new list on some new fics I’ve loved for a while, and some very recent:

Disappear by @sebbys-girl. (Marvel, Bucky Barnes/Winter Soldier x Reader) This was just FULL of angst from the start, where everybody was against the reader and she just took it in, for a half-assed reason. The action is just as good too (which I’m really jealous about) and the new characters, which were flesh out interestingly but didn’t take over and weren’t OP compared to the already existing characters.

the fire’s out but it still burns by deeppoeticgirl. (Naruto, Sakura Haruno x Sasuke Uchiha) I’m a SasuSaku fan, and I’ve actually been following this art blog @dymx and she has these amazing art and would link artists that she inspired works from. Also, this fic has everything I want in an angst fic with these two :”>

Beastly Possession by Whild Rhov. (Fairy Tail, Lucy Heartfilia x Natsu Dragneel) Fair warning, this is really detailed, has themes you might be uncomfortable with, but is a hell of a ride. Rhov went hard on this fic, delving into certain things regarding Dragon Slayer magic Hiro Mashima won’t give us (lol)

Forgotten Flame by Little Falcon (Katekyo Hitman Reborn, Haru Miura x ???) One of my favorites when I was younger, because I was so intrigued by the premise of that mysterious person of a mysterious undiscovered faction (i dont know the name of this trope haha). The mystery leading up to the other pair had me gnawing and the ending was so worth it all.

The Long Way Home by the general girl (Naruto, Sakura Haruno x Sasuke Uchiha). Sooo, this one has amnesia au, a troubled Sakura, and an annoying side-character. It’s really fun because Sakura is a mess with her feelings but just wants to see Sasuke well, even though he doesn’t know her.

make me complete once again by dandelionpetals. (Genshin Impact, Kaeya Alberich x Diluc Ragnvindr) I just read this recently and oh my god- OH MY GOD YES THE ANGST. I love this kinda angst, to be honest. Y’all will have to read to find out why I love it so much.

Changes by nerdymama. (Pokemon Sword/Shield, Leon/Dande x Sonia). Okay, to be honest, I shipped them so hard when I was playing and I’m a sucker for childhood friends-to-lovers trope. BUT! As the title suggests, there’re changes that happened in the fic that testified not only their relationship, but on each other’s psyche for the better. It’s also the fic that really helped inspire me to work on my Sakusa fic.

The Story of Us by thesweetnerd. (Haikyuu!! Atsumu Miya x Kiyoomi Sakusa) Another amnesia au that just stings and stings with each chapter, I was bawling in a few of them to be honest. Such a satisfying read to the end.

In The Dark Of The Night, I Long For The Light by StarTears. (Genshin Impact, Diluc Ragnvindr x Lumine/Traveler) Ehe, this was my first Genshin fic that I read, because Diluc piqued my interest. It’s really deep and delves into immortality’s complications, one’s dignity, one’s mission, and the fact that there’s someone for them that they have to choose against everything.

Subterfuge by @bunsterjonez. (Marvel, Bucky Barnes/Winter Soldier x Reader) My god, this was one of the early MCU fics I’ve read that really made me fall in love with Bucky Barnes. It’s a slow burn, mind you, but it’s just sooooo goooooooood! I aspire to reach her level of creativity, honestly.

I have a hard time getting to focus on fics I’ve been dying to read, because I almost always find myself going back to these.

Also, writing can be that much work and all, but at the end of the day, the most important key element to it is: just have fun :) It’s more than writing for an audience, you’re writing for yourself :)

Dean dies first. He always went first in everything, to make sure it was safe for Sammy to follow. He shouldn’t have to wait for Sammy for too long, but in Heaven time passes differently. It's only by chance one day that he stumbles upon someone else's little slice of Heaven.

It's a field of sunflowers. Dean walks through the field with his arms stretched out so that his finger tips just graze the golden petals. He’s smiling, remembers the field outside of Lawrence that his mom had taken them to one day to try and get family pictures. John had been less than cooperative and Sam had begun to cry, so there were no pictures to document the trip, but he remembers it. He reaches the end of the field and sees a house. His house. From Lawrence.

“Sam…” he breathes.

Dean starts to run. He runs the last few yards from the field to the front steps of the house, then runs up the steps and through the front door.

"Sam? Sammy? Sam!" he calls out, impatient and anxious. There is a noise in the kitchen, but the figure that steps out and into the foyer is not his brother. She stands before him, beautiful and untouched by time, in a yellow sundress and pink cardigan. Her feet are bare and she's...perfect.

"Mom..." he croaks. But he's played this game before. He's been to Heaven before and he's felt the pain of reliving his memories and not being able to really talk to his mom.

"D-Dean?" she asks, taking a hesitant step forward. "Is it...really you?"

"Mom?" That seems to be enough for the both of them. They cross to each other and Dean wraps his arms around his mother as she wraps hers around him. She's crying and stroking his hair like she did when he was a little boy, and for the life of him, Dean can't bring himself to let her go just yet.

"I've been waiting...a long time for this," Mary whispers. She has to look up at her son now, which made her smile through the tears. "Come on, I’ll get you something to eat." she says, patting him on the back and pointing to the kitchen.

When Dean steps through the kitchen door, he takes in a shaky breath. It’s their kitchen alright, but it is so much more here. Every surface, every corner is plastered with sunflowers. There are sunflower pictures stuck to the fridge with magnets, sunflower shaped plates hung decoratively on the wall, a sunflower cookie jar, sunflower tea cups, a vase painted with sunflowers that held actual sunflowers, and the walls hold the different versions of Van Gogh's sunflower paintings. There is an apron with sunflowers on it, and little tea towels embroidered with the golden flowers. They are...everywhere.

"Why--"

"Why the sunflowers?" Mary finishes. She stands in the doorway just watching him look at his surroundings, her head tilted slightly in consideration.

"Have you ever looked into your brother's eyes, Dean? Really looked?" she asks. Dean looks back at her and shrugs with a slight shake of his head. "They’re amazing. They aren’t unlike yours or your dad’s, but there’s this…burst of color around the middle, like God took the time to make them special, like he painted sunflower petals around them. I used to whisper to him that he was my sunshine, my little sunflower.”

Mary pauses and hugs her arms around herself, then she meets Dean’s eyes and gives a tight smile. “I had more time with you than I did with him. I have...memories of you. I get to live them out as many times as I want to, but with Sam..." she pauses, takes a shaky breath, and Dean crosses to her to place his hand on her shoulder.

"He'll be here soon, mom. You'll get to know him.” he says, though he doesn’t know how the fact that his baby brother is dead would comfort his mother.

“We’ll wait for him, okay? Right here,” he continues, and gentles his mom towards one of the chairs at the kitchen table. She sits down and he sits beside her, holding her hand. “We’ll wait.”

Dean doesn’t tell his mother how they died, how Sam was lying in his arms, how the last thing he did in his life was to wrap his arms around Sammy and try to shield him from the destructive blast he knew was coming. He doesn’t tell her that they died seconds apart from each other and that he’s been waiting for Sam for what feels like eternity already. But most of all he doesn’t tell her about how he had stared into the sunflowers of his brother’s eyes on a thousand different occasions and marveled at their beauty.

Dean doesn’t know how much time passes, but when he hears the front door open he’s the only one in the kitchen, surrounded by all the sunflowers. Mary had gone wherever it was that she went in her afterlife, but Dean felt comfortable amongst all of the reminders of his brother.

“Dean?” the voice calls out, and he freezes. He puts down his coffee cup with a shaking hand and clears his throat, but he can’t make his voice come out at first.

“S-Sammy?” he calls, pushing himself up from the table. Heavy footfalls sound down the hall and then he’s there, standing in the same doorway that Dean himself had previously stood in. His eyes, his amazing eyes, meet Dean’s and the entire spectrum of emotions washes over his face in the breath of a second.

“Welcome home, sunshine.” Dean rasps, but can’t seem to force his token sarcasm into it.

Sam crosses the room and crashes into Dean, clasping him on the back of the neck and burying himself into his chest. Dean runs his fingers through Sam’s hair and fists his other hand into the soft fabric of his shirt.

“Sorry it took me so long.” Sam finally whispered, breaking the silence.

“I’ll always wait for you, Sam.”

“Dean…what’s with all the sunflowers?"

Instead of answering, Dean just chuckles and captures Sam's mouth with his own.

From one extreme to another. I finished both these books a couple days ago. #LatinxScreams is a horror anthology of short horror stories written by a diverse group of Latinx authors. I loved the variety of these stories my favorites were Black Sheep, Frijoles, Galan, and Pancho Claus vs Krampus. I highly recommend it for Horror lovers and for me to be able to fly through a short story collection when they're my #readingkryptonite means the collection is worth it. #TheScrewtapeLetters is a book I've been meaning to read since I heard about it in college. I'd even started it a few times but never could get very far. I think the idea of having a demon-view of humanity was a little intimidating for me. The #LibbyApp audiobook was only 4 hrs so I decided to take the plunge. School is back in for my kiddos. And after a first day that included waiting about 1.5 hrs for my 4 kiddos to get dropped off by the bus due to doubled up bus routes and a bus driver shortage. I decided to brave the pick up line until they get more drivers and the bus situation sorted out. #monthlyroundup #August Reads 11 books in August. The two stand outs were #RazorbladeTears & #TheHeartPrinciple they were both 5 star reads for me. I also read a non-fiction and a few romance novels. I listened to 2 audiobooks including the amazing Esperanza Rising and the truly awful Kiss My Cupcake. The big news is I actually read 4 #BOTMBooks this month! Including The Seven Husbands of Evelyn Hugo and One Last Stop both of which had Sapphic elements. With the Fire on High by Elizabeth Acevedo has been on my TBR list for a while. I've almost chosen it as an add on for my BOTM box (and still might because I want a personal copy after this is returned to the library). . Acevedo uses short snapshot-like chapters to give us glimpses into Emoni's life and motivations. Emoni has a lot going on balancing school, work, and a baby girl. Food and cooking is her escape. She has a new culinary arts class that gives her the opportunity to visit Spain but also sometimes challenges her creative freeform cooking style. I loved how Emoni thought and felt about food. It definitely gave me Like Water for Chocolate vibes it felt magical it felt like something that is specific to a character of Latinx/AfroLatina origins. 4.5/5 . I enjoyed this book so much I immediately went and picked up Poet X. This collection of nonfiction Black History tales spans everything from Henry "Box" Brown to Bass Reeves.
