MY thoughts after reading acosf

Being mean and cruel does not make a character badass

Being feminine and having a hobby doesn’t make a character boring

Saying a character is the kindest of all yet failing to see that kindness in the book?? Idk, she only seems polite to me.

Nesta got on her knees for Amren and begged for forgiveness, but she couldn’t even voice a thank you to Feyre?

Trauma is not an excuse to treat others like trash

Nesta being there for Elain her whole life even when she was severely depressed and traumatized, only for Elain to get mad and basically abandoning Nesta when she’s dealing with her trauma her way does not sit right with me

Acosf was a healing and growing journey, not really a redemption arc.

I noticed that when Elriels spout their embarrassing theories they always come up blank in terms of who the next book will be about and what it’s plot will be? We all know Azriel and Lucien are getting the last two books. But if El ended up with Az, who’d be Lucien’s li? Vassa? This is where they always end up drawing a blank. ALWAYS. Vassa is most likely going to be re-enslaved and back at the lake and so Lucien tries to figure out a way to break her curse and kill koschbosh whatever his name is. Come on! The two of them would be separated for the majority of the book?? Hello?? I also don’t see how an Elriel book could connect a vassalucien book. If that makes any sense? There’s nothing that’d connect vassalucien to the og characters/plot.

Meanwhile. Gwynriel n Elucien just makes SO. MUCH. SENSE? Like you don’t even have to ship them to not see it? Not just relashionship wise but plot wise ESPECIALLY? Gwynriel will most likely deal with Illyrians and the fallout of the Valkyries completing the rite while also trying to deal with Beron, prevent him from striking a deal with Koshbosh or whatever. Both Elain and Lucien are tied to Koshbosh, so in the final book, Elucien deals with Koshbosh. Elain with her seer powers might find a way to kill Koshbosh seeing as how she’s already had visions of him, and Lucien with his c3po eyeball and spell cleaving abilities might find a way to break Vassa’s curse and free her. Not to mention it’s been foreshadowed so many times in acowar that Elain and Vassa will become friends? See how it all just clicks into place perfectly?

Is this why Elriels desperately try to come up with all these absurd dusk court theories, because Elriel as a couple have absolutely nothing to contribute to the plot? Is this why ever since ElainVassa started rising they started calling her and the twins “iconic” and started comparing + putting the “iconic trio” in the same sentence as the Valkyrie trio when we’ve seen literally ZERO interactions between them? Haha omg that’s kinda sad ngl. But more than that-

you've put all of my thoughts into one ask so nicely, anon! this is what i've been saying. elain has absolutely no connection to what is likely going to be the plot of az's book. why would she care about illyria? she has nothing to do with it meanwhile gwyn does. how would vassa break her own curse? it was literally said in acosf that she has to return to koschei soon, even having koschei say, "tell my vassa, i'm waiting for her" or whatever.

e/riel currently cannot connect to a v/ucien plot i'm sorry. now, maybe sarah will change things in acotar 5 but... it's unlikely? she'd literally have to rewrite everything she set up in acosf and that sounds like a whole ass pain 😭

i don't like to shit on anyone's ships bc hello..... i'm literally out here shipping things that will never happen but if you take off your shipper's goggles and look at where the plot of the spinoffs is headed, gwynriel and elucien just make the most sense. if not, why did sarah build gwyn up so much? she's not going to use a sa survivor as a plot device and i'm still disgusted that any of you suggested that. why make her azriel's equal? why include the infamous "you're the new ribbon, az" line? bc idc what anyone says, that doesn't hint at a platonic relationship. why did she remind us again that elain doesn't belong in the night court? and that lucien and vassa are just friends? why not have elain reject the bond if she and az are soooo in wuv uwu? why have lucien still looking at her with longing if she wants to set up a different relationship for him?

i've said it a million times but without elain, lucien has absolutely no potential romances. and with how much stuff there is left unresolved with him, it's almost guaranteed he's getting a pov so if not elain.... who? it's literally a process of elimination and you're only left with elain.

don't even get me started on the elain ruling the dusk court theories 🙄 it's literally as if they want to stunt any growth elain could have just to tie her to a man and yet we're the misogynistic ones. ok!

if anyone's going to revive and rule the dusk court it's going to be nesta. not miss "what do you need?" "sunshine" elain archeron.

god the whole "elain, nuala and cerridwen are an iconic trio" is so cringey. they're acquaintances at best. you cannot begin to compare them to the valkyries or feyre, mor and amren who are literally each other's chosen sisters meanwhile the twins were assigned to look after elain lmfao

anyway elain and vassa and briar pls sjm are superior! they just can't handle how badass they'll be when they finally meet.

Okay I just finished the ACOTAR series for the first time and I have so many thoughts so I'm gonna write them down.

Also I have not looked at any fan theories or been a part of this fandom very much so all these headcannons are straight from the noggin:

Okay getting this out of the way cause its a hot topic. Azriel is my baby I love him but

I would have mixed feelings about him being with both gwyn and Elaine. I love the idea of Elaine being azriels sunshine he deserves light in his life (also their scene in ACOSF had me ejdjbdksks) but also all three bat boys being with all 3 sisters rubs me the wrong way idk.

Gwyn is amazing because she's a badass bitch and if azriel doesn't snatch that up I will. I feel like azriel almost gets bulldozed over by the other bat boys (like he will do the dirty work only because he feels inferior) And I want gwyn to help him stand up for himself.

Gwyn is an adult jfc. I'd be more worried about her trauma.

I am totally a elucien shipper I'm SORRY lucien deserves the world

But at the same time I would totally understand if Elaine couldn't forgive him for his involvement in the cauldron business. That shit was wack. I just want this relationship to be the biggest, most "period drama esqe" slowburn.

I have very mixed feelings about lucien. On one hand lucien has never had a home and when tamlin took him in I can see how that loyalty blurred the lines of right and wrong. But at the same time lucien messed up MANY times where the archeon sisters are concerned.

Nesta deserved her kick in the ass because it was needed. She did not deserve everyone to be a little bitch to her. It felt like feyre was the only one who wanted her rehabbed for nestas sake. I definitely would have preferred Nesta to hit rock bottom and choose recovery for herself (cause alcoholism and things can only be truly solved through self help) Everyone else was uncharacteristically nonempathetic. Idk how Cassian could be okay with her treatment after they mated.

I'm still digesting Rhys and nestas relationship. I like that they don't like each other for most of ACOSF. Nestas reasons for treating feyre poorly are valid, but not excuses. The feyre, Nesta, and rhys relationship thing is weird cause I see all sides. I need more feyre and Nesta bonding they always get interrupted.

I HATE what SJM did to Mors character. What the fuck is up with mor not liking Nesta. Maybe we will get an explanation in the next book but I feel like mor was set up to be a great LGBT character with himbo allies but SJM just dropped her off a cliff. Big mad.

However I do want eris and mor to end up together. Not necessarily romantically, but I want them to have it out and I want eris to support mor. Kinda want them to be mates. Kinda want eris to be gay as well. Kinda want them to get married and them have consorts.

WHY does everyone treat feyre like a porcelain doll when the IC has more collective trauma than anyone else in this universe. Don't get me wrong I'm all about the hurt/comfort but it was so inconsistently written LOL. When the IC was telling their stories the first night they met and then feyre told hers I cackled like sorry but she is a baby

Rhys's trauma is just as recent as feyres... yeah he's a lot older and seasoned but oh my GOD he was consistently assaulted for 49 years. Feyre does very little to comfort him. Idk I feel like it was SO glossed over.

Like in ACOWAR feyre admits that amaranthas hatred wasn't personal it was general, unlike Tamlins hatred. But amarantha and rhys had multiple personal vendettas against each other. Like his amarantha is vaguely feyres tamlin. Rhys didn't even get to kill amarantha. His trauma is untapped. Rhys is the main character feyre is the love interest idc

Idk what yall say rhys is my baby my lovebug my everything. He's got his flaws but you can't love Nesta and hate him at the same time without being a lil hypocritical

But he's fucked in the head for thinking he was justified in drugging feyre every night for 2 months. Almost more mad about that than the SA (I dont really blame Rhys since it is not cannon to me. SJM just messed up 😌 it was so out of character) did he ever really apologize for that??

ALSO I know smj wanted to write like #consentking but half of what he allowed was so unnecessarily dangerous (like the first AND second weaver encounter- if my SO ran off in the middle of a battle to track down a mysterious creature when the task could have been done after the battle I would have be livid. Mor was justified in being mad.)

I'm so mad rhys didn't flatten tamlin during the high lord meeting. Either it will happen in the future or I will burn these books.

THE BAT BOYS HAVE CONNONICALLY BEEN IN THE SAME ROOM WHILE HAVING SEX. the foursomes in my head gets clearer by the day

I HATE the fact that rhys almost had an existential crisis over feyre being so young when she found her mate and not having "lived" and THEN GETS HER PREGNANT??? Are you kidding me. I'm so mad. I don't wanna deal with babies. I hate babies.

But I DO have a fun headcannon that since the bone carver is a death-god or whatever he KNEW nyx wouldn't survive and that is why he appeared as him. Also when the bone carver offered to take feyres first born in exchange for help rather than the oroboughs I think that was also foreshadowing. The only reason nyx survived was because of Nesta and the bone carver had trouble seeing the cauldron.

Literally I would have enjoyed ACOSF if instead of the pregnancy feyre was busy looking for bryaxis. Literally what happened to him. Wtf

I know the plot armor is crazy thick around the IC but it would have been nice if one of them died. Well, not nice, but more believable. Maybe thats why nyx should have died. Lol I need therapy.

FREAKING HEADCANNON: the archeon sisters are partially fae. Their mom was definitely a descendant and that's why all three sisters have mates. It was hinted that the sisters had mated because they were powerful and cauldron made but Cassian and rhys could feel the pull before the sisters were turned.

Tarquin is the hottest high lord

The whole blood rite thing was stupid. I would have loved if it was spread out over a longer period of time but it was so unrealistic

You know we all love a good #girlboss🤢 moment but the whole valkarie thing seemed 1. Out of no where 2. Really quickly forced (ACOSF should have been like 2 books) 3. If emerie and mor get together life=complete

The inner circle and ther archeon sisters would not get along if they weren't mated to like 50% of the gang

Okay I know this is a complicated subject but having LGBTs in a universe with mates based in evolutionary advantage seems more homophobic than having a universe without LGBTs LOL. Like their connection can't be as deep cause they can't procreate?? I did like that SJM made up for it a little by saying not all mates are complementary souls.

Ahhhhhh!! I’m so excited you are writing ACOTAR fic! Seriously, you are one of my favorite writers and I can’t wait to see what you come up with! On a side note, do you have any favorite characters? :)

As for favorite characters, first and foremost: NESTA.

There's very little that I love more than a "bitchy" female character who seems one-dimensional at first glance, but turns out to be Complicated™️ and Nesta is one of the best examples of this that I've ever encountered. She's fierce and angry and cruel, because the world has been cruel to her. Watching her journey toward healing in ACOSF just wrecked me. I literally spent the last 10% of the book in tears.

And close behind Nesta is Lucien. God, I just. I love him. I loved him almost as soon as we were introduced to his snarky ass in ACOTAR, and the greyer (and more culpable) he became, the more I adored him.

I am *dying* for the next book to be Elucien. If it's Elriel I'm going to be deeply disappointed. (I'm not anti Elriel; I'm never anti anything. It's just not the direction I'd like to see canon go in.)

But tbh I kind of love all the most important characters. Cassian? Arrogant beefcake with a heart of gold who would walk through fire for his mate. Azriel? My damaged, soft bby (yes he's soft, idc if he tortures people lmao) who doesn't know what he truly wants. Mor? Queer icon who only does queen shit!!! Emerie? What a badass, to survive everything she has and come out on the other side. Ditto for Gwyn, whose spunky competitive attitude I just adore.

And ofc Feyre and Rhysand. I loved them in ACOMAF more than I can possibly express, both individually and together. I have some quibbles with their characterization in ACOWAR and some serious problems with ACOSF!Rhys. But. Overall, they have my whole heart.

14) How do you think Elain will react to the mating bond with Lucien?

Well, based off of the one little line in ACOMAF that said something to the effect of Elain staring at Lucien over Nesta’s shoulder, maybe she’ll be overwhelmed a bit at first? But she seemed intrigued to me so…I’m hopeful that they’ll both work out their separate issues and come together and be the super fucking adorable couple that I want them to be, because I want my fox child to be happy! 

16) Mor’s power - what would you like it to be?

Anything. Idc what it is as long as it’s super badass. Mor is just a beautiful creature and she deserves some kick-ass powers! And we all know she’s powerful–or so it’s been said

18) How do you think the Cauldron might come into play in the war?

AH! Idk…to me, Hybern seems really selfish in the sense that he’s in it just for the power and potential the cauldron can offer him. Like I don’t think he’ll try to open up another world or anything, I think he just wants to dominate the continents and rule. 

But I think that’s he’s probably not aware of the cauldron’s full power–or how to truly wield it, so I think that either by Nesta, Feyre or maybe even Amren’s means, it’ll get turned against Hybern somehow (honestly hoping Nesta just kicks his ass) and in the end it’ll get nullified so that it can never be used again!
