second weekend in the new place and ive woken up feeling hungover even though i haven’t had a drop of alcohol yesterday. i think it’s just the eventfulness of the week catching up to me. i really feel like i don’t have the energy to do anything social or physically involved that’s for sure. ill probably feel better on future weekends when the week isn’t wall-to-wall moments of things that are all just so new to me and when my brain gets more familiar with here. i feel bad because there’s people who adapt so well and always have an endless reserve of energy to socialize and do stuff and feel like a local within weeks but idk. unless i get a personality transplant that’s never going to be me. so this weekend i Rest. best i can do is walk around different parts of the city for an hour or so on each day

Fun fact: Dream and Nightmare in my Ec-4o.verse setting are a package deal! They're both robots (Ectos) but their designs directly compliment eachother. Dream is (practically) an infinite power source for magical/electrical energy. Nightmare is a walking EMP that short-circuits all tech around him.
Their settings can be changed to be more or less intense, but Nightmare must be within a 2 mile radius of Dream or else he'll shut down, and Dream will start to overheat if he's too far from Night for too long.
There's a bit of animosity between them (largely due to Pre-war factors) but by the time they enter the story they're back on speaking terms.

Israel has cut water, electricity and food to Palestinians in Gaza. They are buying 10.000 M16 rifles and plan to distribute to civilian settlers in the West Bank to hunt down Palestinians. They're bombing the only way out of Gaza through Egypt, after telling refugees to flee through it, and have threatened the Egyptian government in case they let aid trucks pass through. Entire families, generations, are being wiped out and left to wander the streets hoping they don't get bombed.
Palestinians are using their last minutes of battery to let the world know about their genocide and are being met with a wall of "What about Hamas? What about the beheaded babies? Killing children on either side is bad!" even though the propaganda claims have been debunked over and over again. How cruel is it to ask somebody to condemn themselves before their last words? Or before grieving the loss of their entire families? When there's no such disclaimer to Israelis even though their government has shown over and over genocidal intent? Like who are you even trying to appease? What will your wishy washy statement do against decades of zionist thought infiltrating evangelical and Jewish stablishmemts?
Take action. Israel will fall back if public opinion turns its tide. The UK fell back on its bloody decision to cut aid to Palestine under public scrutiny. The USAmerican empire spends $3.8 billion dollars annually solely on this proxy war while its people suffer under a progressively military regime as well. News outlets are canceling last minute on Palestinian speakers while letting Israelis tell lies unchecked. Palestinian refugees are being targeted in ICE establishments and mosques are already being hounded by the FBI. France and Germany have banned pro-Palestine protests, while Netherlands and the UK have placed restrictions . You have the chance to stop this from turning into repeat of the Iraq war.
I want to do something but there's hardly anything for me to do from Brasil besides spreading the word and not letting these testimonies fall on deaf ears. I'm asking you to do this same ant work from wherever you are.

U.S. Navy Received a New Generation of Autonomous Unmanned Submarine - Technology Org
If a country wants to deploy its power globally, submarines are still a must. They are like secret underwater military bases, which can stay in waters unnoticed, gathering data and performing combat missions. Submarines, of course, have large crews. But not the Boeing Orca – Extra Large Uncrewed Undersea Vehicle (XLUUV), which was recently delivered to the U.S. Navy.
U.S. Navy accepted the testing completion of the Boeing Orca and took delivery of it this month. Boeing describes Orca as the “new class of autonomous submarine that can perform long duration critical missions to achieve undersea maritime dominance in changing environments and contested waters”. Orca, of course, is a name given to this unmanned submarine by the Navy.

The work on Orca started a long time ago. In fact, we need to go back to 2021 when Boeing Phantom Works set out to improve upon earlier autonomous underwater vehicle designs. That work eventually led to  Echo Voyager – a highly capable unmanned submarine, powered by a hybrid diesel-electric system.
This work, naturally, interests the U.S. Navy quite a bit. In 2017 the Navy awarded 40 million dollar contracts to both Boeing, which had partnered Huntington Ingalls Industries, and Lockheed Martin. Boeing slowly but surely developed the XLUUV, based on their earlier Echo Voyager design. This project brought the consortium a new  $43 million contract in 2019 – the ink was put to paper for Boeing to make and deliver four XLUUV vehicles.
And here we are now. The first XLUUV, Orca, was delivered to the Navy. Just like the Echo Voyager, Orca is 16 metres long and features a modular construction. It can be paired with a 10-metre payload module, which has a capacity of 8 tonnes. The modular design of the Orca makes it possible to adapt it to different missions.
“This is the culmination of more than a decade of pioneering work, developing a long-range, fully autonomous undersea vehicle with a large payload capacity that can operate completely independently of a host vehicle,” said Ann Stevens, Boeing Maritime and Intelligence Systems vice president.
Orca is powered by a hybrid diesel/lithium-ion battery system. Orca is fully electric when submerged and then charges its batteries with a diesel generator once it has access to the air. It has a top speed of  8 knots (15 km/h), but normally travels at about 3 knots (5.6 km/h). When it is using its battery intelligently, Orca has endurance for 10,500 km. It can stay in the water for months, performing surveillance, electronic combat, and minesweeping missions.
It is not yet clear when Orca might see serious action. But it is true that the future belongs to unmanned weapons systems and Orca is just a part of that move to remove crews from danger while simultaneously improving capabilities of long-range weapons.

The Best News of Last Month
Sorry for being not active this month as I had some health problems. I'll start posting weekly now :) Meanwhile here's some good from last month
1. Widow donates $1 billion to medical school, giving free tuition forever
Tumblr media
Ruth Gottesman surprised by her late husband's $1 billion in Berkshire stock, decides to donate it in full to the Albert Einstein College of Medicine in the Bronx, New York City's poorest borough. The donation is intended to cover students' tuition indefinitely, ensuring access to medical education for generations.
A video capturing students' emotional reactions to the news, cheering and crying, circulated after the announcement, highlighting the profound impact of the donation on the medical school community.
2. Electric school buses outperform diesel in extreme cold
Tumblr media
In Colorado's West Grand School District, electric school buses outperformed their diesel counterparts, particularly in the bitterly cold temperatures of towns like Kremmling, where morning temperatures can drop below -30 degrees Fahrenheit. Despite common concerns about reduced range in extreme weather, the electric buses maintained their battery charge even in these frigid conditions, providing reliable transportation for students.
This success has been welcomed by the school district, as diesel vehicles also face challenges in starting in Colorado's harsh winter weather.
3. Christian Bale unveils plans to build 12 foster homes in California
Tumblr media
Christian Bale has led a tour round the new village in California where he plans to build 12 foster homes, as well as two studio flats to help children transition into independent living, and a 7,000 sq ft community centre.
The actor has spearheaded the building of a unique complex of facilities with the aim of keeping siblings in the foster care system together, and ideally under the same roof.
4. Average lifespan of a person with Down syndrome has increased from 25 years in 1983 to 60 years today
Tumblr media
Today the average lifespan of a person with Down syndrome is approximately 60 years.
As recently as 1983, the average lifespan of a person with Down syndrome was 25 years. The dramatic increase to 60 years is largely due to the end of the inhumane practice of institutionalizing people with Down syndrome.
5. Greece legalises same-sex marriage
Tumblr media
Greece has become the first Christian Orthodox-majority country to legalise same-sex marriage. Same-sex couples will now also be legally allowed to adopt children after Thursday's 176-76 vote in parliament.
Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis said the new law would "boldly abolish a serious inequality".
6. Massachusetts police K9 tracks scent for over 2 miles to find missing 12-year-old in freezing cold
Tumblr media
A Massachusetts police K9 followed her nose to help find a 12-year-old who went missing in frigid temperatures last week, tracking the child’s scent for over two miles, authorities said.
K9 Biza, a female German shepherd, was called on to help after officers learned the child left their home at around 10:30 p.m. Wednesday and was last seen in the Pakachoag Hill area of Auburn, the Auburn Police Department said.
7. Good News for the Socially Anxious: People Like You a Lot More Than You Think They Do, New Research Confirms
Tumblr media
The "Lake Wobegon effect" or "illusory superiority" phenomenon highlights people's tendency to overestimate their abilities, but recent research suggests that in social interactions, individuals often underestimate their likability and charm.
Studies indicate that people consistently fail to recognize signals of others' liking toward them, leading to a "liking gap" where individuals believe they are less likable than they actually are.
Techniques such as focusing more on others during conversations and genuinely expressing interest in them can help alleviate social anxiety by shifting the focus away from self-criticism. Ultimately, understanding that others may also experience similar anxieties can lead to a more relaxed and enjoyable social experience.
