Derw release brand new 'Ble Cei Di Ddod I Lawr' single on Ceg Records 

Derw started as a project between songwriter Dafydd Dabson and his mum Anna Georgina, a lyricist, after they got to the final of S4C songwriting competition Can i Gymru in 2018 and decided to keep writing together. The band is fronted by Welsh/Iranian singer Elin Fouladi and their debut EP 'Yr Unig Rhai Sy'n Cofio' involves musicians from Welsh acts Zervas and Pepper, Afrocluster and Codewalkers. Drawing on chamber pop influences like The National and Elbow, the band has a strong connection with the past and their family history and is named after Anna's father - Derwas. Their family is full of interesting stories and 'Yr Unig Rhai Sy'n Cofio' (The Only Ones Who Remember) is about making sure these stories are recorded and remembered. The track 'Mikhail' is about a friend Derwas met while studying in Jerusalem in 1926. Mikhail grew up in Russia and his father was part of the imperial navy. One night in 1917, when Mikhail was nine and his mother was away, the Bolsheviks came to his house, took his father into another room and shot him. Mikhail then moved to Palestine with his mother and, when he was 19, met Derwas, a student from Oxford. They then spent years exploring the wilderness together and trying to find peace. The lyrics for 'Silver', the final track of the EP, are taken from a poem written by Anna's mother in the 1930s. She loved writing and had notebooks full of poetry she'd written. She tried several times to get them published but never managed it so it gives Anna and Dafydd a huge amount of pleasure to be able to make use of one of them now. Derw’s first single, ‘Dau Gam’, came out in May on CEG Records. It was made ‘Track of the Week’ on BBC Radio Cymru as well as getting airplay on BBC Radio Wales. The band’s second single, ‘Ble Cei Di Ddod i Lawr’ is out today on CEG Records.

LUIANNA - ‘Heroin’ Single 

LUIANNA is set to release the powerfully emotive and anthemic new single ‘Heroin’. The single is the final release to be taken from LUIANNA’s upcoming debut EP ‘Skiá’, which is out independently tomorrow, Friday, 29th April 2022.

Sounding akin to the likes of BANKS and The xx, ‘Heroin’ is a dark, blooding slice of ambient pop that packs an emotional punch. Talking about the single, LUIANNA elaborates, “this song was written about my Dad. The music was written to feel out and describe the feeling of the lyrics and the story in my life, a gentile start going into noisy chaos”.

LUIANNA was born in London, brought up in South Wales and has since spent the past fifteen years between Bristol and Berlin. Her upcoming EP was recorded in The Famous Gold Watch Studio in Berlin.

‘Heroin’ is taken from LUIANNA upcoming debut EP, ‘Skiá’, due for release on 29th April 2022.

Born and raised in Edinburgh, Scotland, Celestial North can be found wandering south of the border in Kendal where she now lives with her family, surrounded by fells and the beauty of nature. Her Scottish roots are anchored in her music and her love of wilderness, mystery and the spirit of the Beltane is evident in her songs. Having taught herself various instruments, with the encouragement of a Bowie and Flamenco loving father, she became interested in experimenting with different recording techniques and more unusual and primitive instruments. Hours and hours were spent with her husband, co-producer and chief drummer Woody, recording blocks of ice being hit, or chains being banged inside buckets, or storms passing over their old stone house on the hill. A dulcimer, a Bodhran drum and a piano were gifted to them during lockdown which had a huge impact on the sounds being created at home.  

Celestial North is a talented, multi-faceted musician and songwriter with her songs regularly played on the BBC Introducing show.  Her most recent release, a reworking of R.E.M.’s ‘Nightswimming’ - recorded for a God Is In the TV Zine charity album last year, received national radio play with BBC Scotland’s Roddy Hart proclaiming it “Majestic”. The release was included in Bandcamp’s Essential Releases with ‘Nightswimming’ chosen as the Editorial Director’s personal highpoint. Following a run of early singles Celestial North was touted by Under The Radar and God Is In The TV as 'One to watch in 2021' and one of the 'finest new acts for 2021', Celestial North is currently recording her debut album which will be released in September 2022. Adam Walton - Afal 

Adam Walton, a person who i usually send about a million PR email’s to a week, sent me an email for a change. It contained information and links to his forthcoming ‘Afal’ album which is released tomorrow Friday 29th April.

From the off, i have to say that I was immediately drawn-in by the compositions and musicianship after only hearing sporadic bits of Adam’s music over the years. Afal is a sincere and quite personal array of songs that really are very endearing and certainly well written, and i felt i’d been let-in and introduced to a very different and magical world within Mr Walton. 

I can here many influences and certain nods to Teenage Fanclub’s Mellow Doubt, but the thing that sticks out most is how happy and lucky Adam should feel with ‘Afal’, its a beautiful record and wonderful world to be able to visit. I’ve bought my ticket to ‘Afal’, and it’s definitely one way! x

His name is Adam Walton. He’s from Mold in north Wales.

His new album ‘Afal’ is released on this Friday 29th April 2022.

It’s folkish, melodic (I hope) and a little bit trippy, dictated by the songs having been mostly written and recorded after late shifts at work. I wanted to preserve as much humanity and natural grain in the recordings as possible… eschewing autotune, multiple takes and any urge for perfection.

I love slightly off kilter chord sequences and melodies that weave and glow. If the melodies weave and glow for you, I’ll be a happy-ish man.

Musically-speaking? I don’t know… there are scraps of Emitt Rhodes, Beck, De La Soul, Elliott Smith, Love, Teenage Fanclub, Modern Life Is Rubbish-era Blur, Richard Holland’s compilation tapes… The Zombies, Pink Floyd and The Boo Radleys.

It’s about being older and not hating it; not eschewing responsibility, but giving your imagination and flights of fancy daily mouth-to-mouth and defibrillation.

It’s trying to elicit the same sense of wonder that Operation Jonah, Something Wicked This Way Comes, The Wacky Amoebatrons, Many Happy Returns, The Lotus Caves, And Your Bird Can Sing, Strange Perceptions, Runequest, The Losers Club, and rainy, deserted winter afternoons in Portmeirion elicited in me.

To my mind, the instrumental sketches interspersed throughout the album are just as important as the songs, but then the songs aren’t all that important, anyway, so it’s a moot point.

I do hope you like ‘Afal’, I won’t pretend otherwise. I hope it casts a spell over you.
