Just random old sketches I made for one of my original none-fandom OC, Layla!!
I love her a lot tbh and had her for the longest time but never got the chance to talk about her since I didn’t know how but I think I can finally do so now in this blog whenever I feel like it. I am still rewriting the story of my world and it’s lore but all you need to know is that even tho she is blind she the girlboss type with how she lead one of the three Branches from her clan and that would be the social branch, Morganite!!
I would talk more about her one day but for now enjoy those cute drawings I made~… also YES this is Laurence from @idv-news-boi XD
He acts as her eyes in this world and they have quite the close bond.

“Hey partner! How are you doing~?” *sidehugs LeRoy with a big smile*
“And good morning, ladies~” *kisses Ivy’s and Manni’s hands as greeting while holding his hat in his other hand* “It’s been a while since I talked with you guys- almost missed you’ll through my pile of paperwork!” :D
@idv-news-boi
The group was more or less talking amongst themselves, debating what in-game injuries should be treated and what would be best to leave be for the manor to take care of.
"Laurence! Long time no see, my friend!" LeRoy's face seemed to perk up at the presence of the news reporter, quickly making sure to hug the man back as he filled them in. "The three of us have just exited a match! It was fairly chaotic, especially as Mrs. Nettle and I haven't played with any of the identity switch players yet." He paused, pulling away from the hug and giving a small bow to the seamstress. "Apologies for the horrible rescue, by the way. I honestly thought I had remembered to carry the tide-turner!"
"Not to worry, it's quite alright." The Seamstress gave a small wave to the "Key-Master" before turning her attention to Laurence. "Hello there Laurence, you seem to be in fairly good spirits today. How have you been faring? I do hope you haven't been working yourself into an early grave! Huhuhu!"
Ivy grumbled something quietly to herself, crossing her arms as she glared at the seamstress. Pausing and plastering a small smile on her face as she realized that she hadn't answered Mr. Godfrey yet. "I've missed you as well. I meant to visit you sooner, but I fear some other errands got in the way." She shook her head. "I was able to visit that tailor friend of yours. His works were quite impressive!"

Carmilla wasn’t used to someone being this friendly with her, more used to insults being hurled her way due to her horn. Smiling, a small blush crept her way onto the outcast’s cheeks.
"You truly think I’m pretty like butterscotch and honey? That’s the best compliment I’ve ever recieved!"
With Laurence coming in and agreeing, Carmilla was caught even further off guard, now using her book to cover the lower part of her face.
"I’ve never had two people call me pretty before. I have to say, this feels weird.. Ah, but the good type of weird!"
The woman waved back to Kitty before accepting Laurence’s handshake, making a slight flustered noise at being called dear.
"I’m Carmilla! The erm.. Outcast is what I’m known as now. A title I’m not proud of, but I unfortunately have to claim. It’s a pleasure to meet you both!"

National Cheat Sheet: Fed warns of rising commercial real estate prices, Airbnb adds Amazon exec ahead of IPO … & more
Clockwise from top left: Federal Reserve issues warning about the effects of rising commercial real estate prices, firm plans $1B worth of co-living inventory as arrangement’s popularity grows, entrepreneur who claims he was a Compass co-founder seeks $200M in suit and Airbnb taps a former Amazon executive to be its new CFO.
Fed, highlighting asset bubble dangers, red flags rising commercial real estate prices A report released Wednesday by the Federal Reserve warns that soaring commercial real estate prices across the country could harm financial markets, according to the Wall Street Journal. The warning came from the Fed’s first-ever financial stability report, which cited “elevated asset prices, historically high debt owed by U.S. businesses and rising issuances of risky debt” as factors posing the biggest problems for the country’s financial system. The report also pointed to asset bubbles, and not inflation, as the impetus for the past two recessions. Fed Chairman Jerome Powell spoke about the subject Wednesday at The Economic Club of New York. [TRD]
Firm plans $1B worth of co-living inventory as arrangement’s popularity grows Property Markets Group is going all in on co-living. The New York-based firm is planning to roll out $1 billion worth of co-living inventory and is partnering with Raven Capital Management to commit $300 million in equity to a “multifamily housing division” known as X Social Communities. PMG, which was one of the first developers to board the co-living train, currently offers co-living units in Chicago and Miami. The company is planning to put co-living apartments on the market in Fort Lauderdale and Miami, among other locales. “Our product provides incredible value to our customers,” PMG principal Noah Gottlieb said. [TRD]
Entrepreneur suing Compass revealed to be seeking $200M A tech entrepreneur who claims Compass used his ideas to found the company without crediting or compensating him is seeking a stake in the business now worth roughly $200 million. Avi Dorfman sued the SoftBank-backed brokerage and its CEO Robert Reffkin four years ago, but his specific monetary claim was not initially disclosed and subsequently redacted in court filings. During a recent court hearing in New York, it was revealed that Dorfman believes he was entitled to a 15 percent stake in Compass at the time of its founding. After multiple funding rounds by the company, which was recently valued at $4.4 billion, Dorfman’s potential stake would be diluted to about 4 percent. “We believe Mr. Dorfman has a very strong claim as one of the founders of Compass,” his attorney, Susman Godfrey partner Arun Subramanian, told TRD. Compass claims Dorfman turned down a job he was offered at the company to work at a hedge fund instead. [TRD]
Airbnb taps Amazon exec to be its new CFO A former Amazon executive will take the lead on Airbnb’s finances starting in January, Bloomberg reported. The home-sharing startup has hired Dave Stephenson, who was vice president and chief financial officer of Amazon’s worldwide consumer organization, to be its new CFO as it ramps up for an initial public offering. Stephenson oversaw global website sales at Amazon, and is filling a position that has been vacant since Laurence Tosi left Airbnb in February over reported differences with the company’s CEO. Airbnb, which has a private valuation of $31 billion, is reportedly preparing to launch an IPO by 2020. [TRD]

HUD’s New York head to move into a NYCHA building amid utility outages Lynne Patton, who oversees the Department of Housing and Urban Development for the New York region, said she plans to move into a New York City Housing Authority building to protest and shed light on the lack of heat and hot water at NYCHA buildings throughout the city, PIX11 first reported. In a tweet, Patton, who was appointed by President Donald Trump in 2017, wrote that “[basic human conditions are non-negotiable.” In February, the Trump administration proposed a multibillion-dollar budget cut that would slash financial support for a fund that benefits NYCHA and other public housing authorities. [TRD]
Chicago home prices rise, but still fall short nationally Home prices in Chicago are on the rise, but they still aren’t as high as they are nationwide on average, Crain’s reported. Prices rose 3 percent in September after rising for six straight months, but the national average was 5.5 percent, according to data from S&P CoreLogic Case-Shiller. “Home prices plus data on house sales and construction confirm the slowdown in housing,” David Blitzer, managing director and chairman of the index committee at S&P Dow Jones Indices, said in a statement provided to Crain’s. Nevertheless, the Windy City still ranks as the second-most affordable large city in the country to buy a home. [TRD]
Mansion in Florida sets sales record, only to be demolished and replaced A mansion in Naples that set the record for the priciest home sale in Southwest Florida no longer exists. The 24-year-old mansion on Gordon Drive was demolished by its buyer, 2500 Gordon Land Trust, which plans to build a new home at the site. The six-bedroom mansion was built in 1994 and was originally listed for $60.9 million, but ended up selling for $48.8 million in June. Architect John Cooney will design the new home at the site and Newbury North Associates will build it, according to the Naples Daily News. [TRD]
Deadly Woolsey Fire leaves LA and Ventura counties with $5B in damage Los Angeles and Ventura counties are still recovering from California’s catastrophic Woolsey Fire and face up to $5 billion in real estate damages as a result of the blaze, according to an estimate by property data firm CoreLogic. That figure could include anywhere from $3.5 billion to $4.5 billion in residential property damage, as well as up to $500 million in commercial property damage, the OC Register reported. The Woolsey Fire, one of several blazes to tear across the Golden State in November, killed three people and left three firefighters injured before it was contained on Nov. 21. It also destroyed more than 1,600 structures and burned nearly 97,000 acres of land. [TRD]
Seattle’s housing market sees a decline as Amazon looks to the East Coast With all eyes on Amazon’s East Coast plans, growth in the e-commerce giant’s hometown of Seattle has been waning, the Wall Street Journal reported. Bidding wars on properties in the city declined as Amazon spent the past six months searching for a locale for its so-called HQ2, and median growth is the slowest it has been in Seattle since January 2013, according to the outlet. Landlords, meanwhile, have been offering perks like Amazon gift cards and free rent in an attempt to entice tenants and buyers. “If you’ve got that much going on and you’re really trying to get New york and Virginia up and running, you have a tendency to ignore Seattle,” RealPage chief economist Greg Willett told the newspaper. [TRD]
Google drops $1B for office complex near its Mountain View headquarters Alphabet, Google’s parent company, has snapped up a business park in California for $1 billion, Bloomberg reported. Alphabet recently bought Shoreline Technology Park, which is not far from its “Googleplex” Mountain View headquarters. Google also recently bought office space in Sunnyvale and is hoping to build a new development in San Jose, though its plans have been stymied by legal issues. Earlier this year, Google bought the Chelsea Market building in Manhattan for $2.4 billion. The internet search giant’s latest purchase comes not long after Amazon’s HQ2 announcement, as well as the latter’s announced plans to open a regional hub in Nashville. [TRD]

Cyber amateurs prevent connected house from real-time home invasion
Last week, 42 cyber security amateurs prevented a cyber-savvy burglar from breaking into an Internet of Things (IoT)-connected home, in an ultra-realistic simulated competition run by security consultancy Roke and Cabinet Office-backed Cyber Security Challenge UK. The competition sought to find the UK’s best, hidden cyber talent and encourage them into jobs on the frontline of the UK’s cyber defence.
Defending Roke’s historic  manor house, the contestants formed specialised cyber-units tasked to identify and secure the vulnerabilities in new, intelligent household gadgets such as smart locks, cameras, smart lighting, connected coffee machines, and numerous other devices that would be manipulated by the burglar to get into the site. In a race against the enemy, the teams plotted out the hacker’s route, and discovered how he had compromised the system, exploiting various weaknesses to gain access. The objective was to prevent the burglar from getting access to important documents stored in the mansion’s office.
The competition reflected real-life cyber-attack scenarios; the type many security experts fear are leaving UK homes vulnerable to hackers. An investigation by Which? in June showed how hackers can break into home networks and connected devices in just a few days. It also found eight out of 15 IoT devices were easily hackable, providing opportunities for hackers to exploit both organisations and households. Insecure IoT devices had a global impact in late 2016, when the Mirai botnet hijacked default credentials in internet-connected devices to create a Distributed Denial of Service (DDoS) attack on popular services such as Netflix and Twitter, preventing access for users.
The scenario tested the teams’ abilities to investigate irregularities in the mansion’s system, using highly sought after skills such as network analysis and digital forensics. The competition also encouraged the contestants to adopt the mind-set of a criminal, assessing their likely approach and anticipating their next moves – a key skill for thwarting criminal attacks in the real world.
The ten individuals that will represent the UK in the European Cyber Security Challenge were: David Buchanan, Sofia McCall, James Nock, Ben Jackson, Kieran Amrane-Rendall, Harvey Stocks, Edward Godfrey, Matt Watkins, Tom Ryczanowski, and Laurence Tennant.
The highest scoring candidates that will progress to Masterclass were: Tim Carrington, Sophia McCall, Laurence Tennant, David Buchanan, Harrison Speight, Kieran Amrane-Rendall, Alastair Greaves and James Benson.
The cyber security industry is in critical need of more professionals to secure businesses and governments across the world. With a recent report by industry association (ISC)2 predicting the shortfall of skilled cyber workers to reach 1.8 million globally by 2022, companies must act fast to secure the digital economy from emerging threats.
The competitors qualified from a series of online challenges and were assessed on the day by a team of industry experts who marked their proficiencies against today’s professional requirements. The top performers from the event will have secured a coveted place in the Masterclass grand finale in November. The assessors also selected a group of contestants to compete in the prestigious European Cyber Security Challenge competition against teams from a host of European countries.
Anyone interested in taking part in these competitions can sign up and play today at www.cybersecuritychallenge.org.uk.
Nigel Harrison, acting Chief Executive of Cyber Security Challenge UK said: “Our competitions are designed to mirror the new and emerging cyber threats that society is now facing. The types of scenarios that we put our candidates through are based on real-world scenarios, but with an added twist to really see who has the skills and potential to join the profession.  Demand for talent still outstrips supply when it comes to cyber security professionals and demand is only going to grow in the coming years. These competitions are a great way for candidates to experience what the industry is like and for employers to pick out potential recruits. We’d encourage anyone interested in cyber security to sign up and play today.”
Mark West, Information Security Lead, at Roke said: “The desire for convenience means our homes are filling with devices that talk to and share information with each other, with our phones, and with servers on the Internet.   But the downside of the lights being on as you arrive home or a camera that allows you to see and talk to your pets when you’re not there, is the risk that a hacker could use these systems to gain access to your personal data.  It’s vital that we have the ability to make sure that these devices are secure.  This competition is designed to encourage the next generation that can help companies like ours do just that and protect the nation as a whole.”
