he knows that the both had families, had both parents and that’s the first simple thing he can use against them. maybe he knows that skittery‘s father was killed in an accident, his mother couldn’t cope, knows how to phrase his words exactly to make the kid shrink in on himself with bad memories. don’t want to end up like him. she abandoned you because she didn’t care. that kinda of thing, said very casual and matter of fact like it doesn’t bother him in the slightest. he knows that blink had an infection that blinded him and how to scare him back into submission when he’s fighting back, throwing in causal mentions of confinement full of bad conditions that might make it come back. half of the time he rarely threatens directly: he just presses on the right bruises to keep control without needing to raise his voice, planting ideas that scare them worse than his anger can. he knows how to trap them in their own heads

SORRY I FELL ASLEEP uh tw violence and breakdown

okay okay which blink thoughts? I have many Ahhh him and skittery getting into shenanigans, him skittery and Jack beating up someone who beat up their little brother. The three talking business quietly sometimes. Blinks anxiety thru the strike. He didn't want his best friends or the others, especially mush to get hurt.

Blinks anger at himself he couldn't stop the bulls from talking Jack.

Blink hiding with skittery after the morning of Jack's disasterous scabbing, taking a minute. How could he do that to them. Blink raged and broke and skittery hurt with him. Holding the other as if maybe if they held each other tight enough they wouldn't fall apart.

Bonus; Skittery is angry. He knows the work aint fair he knows but friends are supposed to stick together. He remembers seeing an unconscious race dragged away and blink being beaten before going limp and being so scared that they'd killed him, and there was nothing he could do there was too many. He hopes tumbler dutchy and snitch got away. Even with all the newsies there most had scattered rightfully scared of the cops who were too often mean and cruel to the newsies. But it gave skittery an indignant anger at the other boroughs because even if the others thought he was never happy, he did care for them he wanted to protect them, and seeing mostly Manhattan newsies captured burned a rage deep within him.at least spot had stood by them. He'd have to remember to do something nice if they ever got out of this strike business

in manhattan, when one newsie gets sick, they all get sick. and they're fucked right now. "it ain't my fault!" jojo shouts. "buttons got me sick!" everyone rounds on buttons.

"yeah, like i fuckin chose to be sick," he mutters. the crowd of sick newsies starts yelling at him.

"everyone shuddup!" jack shouts from his bed. "i got a headache."

"someone gimme some help out here!" tommy boy calls from outside. specs, blink, and skittery go to give him a hand with whatever it is.

"what happened?" all the newsies hear snatches of conversation from outside.

"-in the street."

"-when to stop-" blink and skittery enter, holding an unconscious race between them. "ay, mush, move it." they toss race onto a bed.

"what happened to him?" ike asks quietly. there's a small cut on race's forehead that's bleeding.

"oh, he passed out in the street," skittery explains. "he's sick and wouldn't take the day off. never was very smart."

"now he's dead," blink adds.

"what?" a shout goes up from some of the younger ones until mush smacks blink around the head and tells everyone blink's kidding.

"they're kids, stop scarin them," mush orders him. "also, race being sick means only one thing. someone has gotta go tell spot conlon."

"yeah, that ain't scary," blink mutters. "uh, boots, go to brooklyn and tell spot he's got a sick boyfriend." boots heads off dutifully.

the next hour is a mess. all the newsies fret over race, who sleeps the whole time. and then everyone goes silent and dumbstruck when spot enters.

they're used to cold, intimidating, angry spot. not a caring spot. not a spot who immediately runs to race's side and starts checking on him.

spot presses his hand to race's forehead and then hugs him tight, pressing kisses to the top of his head. "ay!" crutchie shouts. "everyone hit the beds and give them some space!" race wakes up soon enough, with a worried spot sitting bedside.

"race!"

"whatcha doing here? i's just sick. ain't dying or nothing." spot kisses his forehead and stares at him.

"ya passed out in the street. gotta take it easy."

"when one of us gets sick, we all get sick. i ain't dying, spot, i promise."

"you need food." race shrugs.

"i ain't hungry."

"race. listen to me. you need food, you're sick."

"i'll throw it up."

"i will shove it down your throat if you don't eat the food i bring ya."

"spot-"

"tony. shut up. i's getting you some chicken soup. don't argue." race watches him walk out, smiling a little dopily.

all the newsies start hooting and cheering, whistling at race.

"alright, alright!" race shouts. "i got a headache."

(Most likely Bumlets is standing like that so he can feel taller next to his tall boyfriends for once :3) (Also btw their ship-name is Bumswiftery and they are so underrated)
