Best Wheels and Fitment Options for the Toyota GR-86 / Subaru BRZ

The GR-86 is quite possibly one of the best looking vehicles to come from Toyota since the late 90’s. Each curve and each line feels purposefully placed and well executed. Even the factory wheels are better than 90% of factory wheels on the streets today. However, as we add suspension, aero, and begin the hunt for mechanical grip, it becomes immediately clear that an upgrade on all four corners is the next logical step. The question then becomes, what fitment should you go with?

Lucky for you, we are intimately familiar with the GR-86. Understanding everything from the CANBUS system limitations to the pesky RTV oil pan issues, so wheels should be no problem. Right? Well that depends. We’ll observe three very different styles of fitment and recommend a feasible wheel. Your tire choice, which we will leave completely up to you, will determine your mechanical grip, your fender modification requirement, and the overall final fit and finish of your 86. However, we have to start with what comes factory. The GR-86 has a few wheel options, but the size reference we will go with is 18×7.5 +48 with a 5×100 bolt pattern. While the bolt pattern alone with limit you tremendously, we can all agree that the factory wheel specs are… ‘Mid’ at best.

If you’re looking for something a bit wider than factory, without having to modify your fenders or worry about your fender liners, going up 1 inch in width and down 13mm in offset is the way forward. The Rotiform DTM, starting at under $1400 per set is a perfect candidate for this fitment style, sporting an 18×8.5 +35 spec and a silver finish will be sure to add a bit more style to an otherwise factory GR86, plus you can rest easy knowing you have the history and reputation of Rotiform keeping you safe. If you want fitment so flush, there’s no dip from fender to wheel face, we recommend 18×9 +40. Flush fitment often requires some trimming of the fender wells and often times, the final result is so worth it. To achieve this look, we recommend the Volk ZE40, but if that’s out of budget, the Enkei PF05 is also a sure fit for those looking to add some dimension to their GR86 without breaking the bank.

While those looking for battle stance (less wheel, more tire) would opt for 17” wheels, the dimensions as far as width and offset are the same as they are with the 18’s. For this crowd, we recommend 17×9 +35 to +45 with minor trimming. However, if you want a little poke, keep the diameter at 18” and go with a set of SSR GTX01’s in 18×9.5 +40, add some 200 treadwear tires, and enjoy the pass.

Aww thank! I haven't done anything for them in a while... my previous headcanons were mostly for the Lan family and Cangse. I have various iterations all using the same names so it gets confusing LOL.

I made 3 gifsets for the pre canon Lan family (x) (x) (x) - all of these are for my Lan family au "The Price of Promise", which is really the Lan family backstory to my other fic Discordance (which sadly I never finished. It's completed in my mind...I just never finished writing, and now I'm too busy doing miserable adult things). Beyond this, I have two separate other Lan family aus that both involve dark!Lan brothers (lwj + lxc). A pretty good summary of all my Lan Family aus can be found here. What is consistent in every single one of my Madam Lan aus is that Wen Zhuliu is her martial brother, and even more proficient than him, she was the penultimate Core Melting Hand. I don't read Madam Lan as a victim, and I certainly don't think canon intended for her relationship with Qingheng-jun to be noncon. I think it may very well be true that she killed a Lan Elder, but that doesn't mean she's a bad person, so that the Lan Elder was a bad person who deserved it either. Sometimes good people make really bad mistakes, or do things because of misunderstanding or other's trickery. To me, Madam Lan was a good person and a powerful cultivator who realized she - as the kids say - done fucked up, and offered to remain in incarceration to atone for her mistakes. BUT, to answer your more specific ask re: Qinghe Nie. They're more...lolz. My personal headcanon a propos to absolutely nothing is that Nie Mingjue and Nie Huaisang's mothers are a) Lans, b) sisters. Lan Jiami (NMJ's mother), and Nie Heiqiu (NMJ's father) had a political marriage, but the marriage turned out extremely successful. The two of them were quite compatible. NHQ was quite gruff and grumpy but secretly kind of a simp, and Jiami was outwardly the perfect calm Lan disciple, but would actually love nothing more than to throw down and fight someone with her bare hands. Now Lan Junmi, Jiami's younger sister, wasn't supposed to marry NHQ. Junmi was politically arranged to marry someone else. Jiami and Junmi were Lan Qiren and Qingheng-jun's 1st cousins. Junmi's fiance was NOT to her taste, and she was the kind of personality that would tell this to anybody who would listen. She's small and angry...sort of like a chihuahua if chihuahua had the brains of a collie and the attitude of a husky. And in response to all this, Jiami - who spoils her sister - says hey listen gurl it's fine you can just marry my husband, and we're already sisters, how hard is it gonna be being sister wives, you know what I'm saying?

And Junmi, who was kind of skeptical, was like ...are you sure??? He's kind of mean and scary. Jiami: he's not mean and scary, that's just for show. You're gonna have to get used to the facial hair, but he more than makes up for it with his dic- (Let's just say NHQ was an obsessed wife guy, and gives her his undivided attention.) But the problem was that NHQ was NOT having it. He's like omg honey you can't just make me marry your sister just because your elders wanna marry her off to some old guy. There was a lot of shenanigans and back and forth. Eventually NHQ who can't say no to Jiami when she's hugely pregnant and giving him the teary eyes, married Junmi as a concubine, but then pretty much ignored her out of mortification. The Nies were not known to take on side chicks. 36 episodes of "how to get my husband to sleep with my sister" romcom later...the Nies have a happy polygamous home.
